I can't for the life of me understand why I haven't written a review for Trader Joe's yet! By far my favorite grocery store ever! Such a relaxing shopping trip, usually with a cup of their sample coffee in my hand! I love how small the store is and how perfectly selected the items are! There is almost always an organic option but even the produce that are not organic are GMO free. The best is around a holiday when have tons of unique items that cater to that holiday! The fall is an awesome time to shop there! Pumpkin everything!! Never have I seen such phenomenal customer service! They will always go out out of their way to help you or even just talk or joke with you! One day I was having a particularly bad morning and my cashier smiled at me and said "you look like you're having a hard day and handed me a chocolate baton and a $5 gift card". I was blown away by the kind gesture and will never forget it! And I think another time my mom was given flowers by her cashier on a similar day. I don't get it. What's so great about this place? The way people worship and talk up Trader Joe's I was expecting so much more. Like wayyyyyy more. I'm talking I was expecting the holy fucking grail of grocery stores. A grocery-gasm, if you may. Maybe it's that it's too small. Maybe it's that the selection of food seemed odd to me this particular day. I don't know, but I was not impressed. This is, as with most TJ's locations, super clean, super friendly, and filled with a very special combination of low-priced food staples and very unique TJ's brand stuff. Really, "stuff" is the only word I can use to describe it. You will find things here that don't exist anywhere else. It's worth looking at every aisle. Never know what you might miss. It's small, but other than the staple products, you generally won't find this stuff anywhere else - especially at TJ's low prices. Cookie butter? Yeah, nothing healthy about that, but it's damn good. They were out of the smooth variety when I visited, so I tried the crunchy. It's awesome. Cheese? I got a fresh log of Mozza for under $5.00, a brick of Cheddar & Chocolate cheese, and the hubby picked up some sampler pack of various Spanish cheeses. Frozen stuff? For a working mom, this stuff is great. At least once a week, between dance class & soccer games, I don't have time to cook a full meal from scratch. If we had a TJ's in NOLA, I would pick up some yummy and somewhat healthy-ish stuff (veggies, sides, etc) to cook in a pinch. Oh, and I can't get my 4 year old to eat breakfast, except a cereal bar. TJ's has probably the least crappy of the crap-filled cereal bars on the market. At $1.99, priced about the same as the Walmart store-brand equivalent, yet filled with slightly better ingredients. It makes me feel like Little Miss Picky is getting some nutrition, at least. Hopefully NOLA will get a TJ's soon, but in the meantime, I don't mind going to Baton Rouge every once in a while to see what kind of goodies I can find. read more

Trader Joe's is the greatest grocery store ever. I am so unbelievably happy there is finally one here in LA! I've been shopping ar TJs since I was a kid, and grew up on their unique and wonderful style. The employees are incredibly friendly, the food is great and well priced, the parking lot is even spacious (though a pain to get out of), just the best. A few of my recommendations: Cookie Butter Double Roasted Salsa Spicy black bean dip Cotswold double Gloucester cheese with onions and chives Chili pepper hot sauce Chocolate hazelnut cookies Pumpkin bread mix I could go on and on, but really you have to go to this place to understand what a gem it really is. I'm a mixed bag when it comes to Trader Joe's. On the one hand it seems to me to be a much cheaper version of a Whole Foods without all the pre cooked food. On the other hand my midwestern roots will not allow me to accept quinoa, kale salads, and tofu as normal food. Maybe for my kids pet hamster but I need substance. Trader Joe's has all that fru frueey food that has become the norm thanks to our east and west coaster friends(I swear I am not getting political) but also has things for my meat and taters peeps. They had a lot of pre made salads with various dressing that all looked quite yummy. There were several different styles of sausages, marinaded meats, and cheeses to choose from. They had a small but unique beer selection all of which you could buy as a 6 pack or as individuals. Trader Joe's even has their own brand of beer in 3 different styles. The only things I didn't really like was their annoying bell system to get help from a manager. I get it you are old timey like a trading post but I'm seriously doubting that any trading post ever sold quinoa. The other thing that annoys me is the little grocery carts for the kids. These little shits are running into everything including people while their doped up on anti depressents mother is on the wine aisle stocking up on 3.99 bottles of Trader Joe's red. All that being said I like their off beat selections at good prices and when the Metairie location opens, I'm sure I will be a regular customer. I'll just want to make sure I am there at off peak times when the kiddos are less likely to slam into my ankle with a grocery kart. read more

I hate to write this review. But the more I've thought about it, the angrier i get. We tried to shop here last night. Had our masks on. Grabbed a cart. Was offered hand sanitizer at the door, which i said thank you, but no. The guy responded, it's free, here, as he held it out. I again, said no thank you, i can't. Then he suggested gloves, which i said im sorry, i can't, i'm fine. I was told i HAD to or i couldn't enter. I informed him i could not due to allergies. He said you HAVE TO or you can't go in. Excuse me? Im telling you i can't use either due to allergies, none of your business why, and then he got rude with me. He looked at his coworker,scoffed, and said welllll you have to do one or the other. No, no i don't. What i need to do is leave and never come back. No one uses these gloves correctly anyway. I reach in my purse for something, are you giving me more gloves? No, no you're not. I will never grace your doorstep again. I was humiliated, bullied and laughed at bc i physically couldn't do what he demanded. Shame on you!! I'm really torn writing this review. On one hand Trader Joe's has so many unique grocery items and I have fun every time I go exploring and finding new and interesting things to try. So in this way, many people will love this store. On the other hand, when I walk into Trader Joe's with a list of specific items I need for a recipe, I can rarely ever find all the things I need. The store is pretty small, maybe one of the smallest grocery stores in Baton Rouge and I've never seen it not busy with tons of customers. So if you're looking for a food adventure, definitely check this place out. If you need staples, maybe this isn't your best option. Ultimately the fun outweighs the negative for me. read more

It is always clean and up to 'Trader Joe' Standard with the usual wide variety selection of goods that you cannot find at other groceries. The service here is great. The store is very busy on weekends. Located in a shopping center with fast food and dine in restaurants and even clothing stores, I found that the parking was still plentiful with people quickly coming in and out. The store is very clean and well stocked. I saw an associate cleaning the spice rack with a handheld vacuum. What?! I can see that's the first time I've seen that. I was impressed with the store's priority to keep the shelves CLEAN. Associates are nice and friendly. Welcoming with a smile and in site in every aisle! My favorite snack to get here is the cookie butter spread, vegetable root chips, and spinach and kale Greek yogurt dip. Mm mm good! UPDATE: the chicken dumplings from here are amazing!! read more

Soooo much good. I'm a transplant from Los Angeles so even though TJ's Is new to the Baton Rouge area it is not new to me. I've always loved this place but during COVID-19 they have really shown how much quality and service they can offer their customers. Sometimes They have a line to get in which is well worth the wait, as it does not take long but they are monitoring how many people go into the store which is great. They are wiping down all of their baskets and offering you hand sanitizer and cold bottles of water while you wait. There are face shields at the cash registers and they are being sure to Wipe down the credit card keypad after each customer, which I find awesome because most stores are not doing this. In addition to all the precautions they are taking, they always have a great selection of items, and fresh produce. I also love to get fresh flowers from Trader Joe's to put in my kitchen. This place will always be a staple of mine. read more

Just swung by and tasted some samples of cider (good but better hot!) and got some veggies. $1.99 for a bag of spinach! Some ravioli that I'm super excited to cook and frozen macaroons and baby sized ice cream cones. It was a little busy but we were in and out in ten minutes or so. They've got the store all decorated for Autumn and are featuring lots of seasonal products. Update: so the brussel sprout and grilled onion ravioli was good however the pasta to stuffing ratio was off. Wouldve been better if I added actual brussel sprouts with it. However it was better than the goat cheese and sundried tomato ravioli which was kinda dry and just not good. Frozen macaroons do NOT compare to real and fresh ones. But that's not to say these were bad! I think I didn't like the gelly filling. Still, a treat if you love macaroons. read more

Over this summer I've literally come here for 2 things only: cookie butter and tofu. No, I don't eat them together because I'm not an tasteless idiot. This is the only place that I can conveniently get hefty portioned yet still cheap containers of tofu. Trader Joes shines on having a bunch of stuff from around the world or w.e. But to be honest though, you really can just get most if not all of those "exotic" condiments elsewhere. In reality, the one thing that TJ's has that no one else has is cookie butter. I've only tried the chocolate swirl one, original one, and cookies&cream... and I can honestly say that I can sit down and eat the cookies&cream version all day long... of course I'd need like 2 gallons of water but still, you get the point. Tbh, it rivals nutella, and I'm a pretty big fan of nutella. The cashiers and pretty much everyone that works in the store is pretty damn nice too. Upbeat attitudes all the time that it's almost sickening. Almost, so not quite enough to make me hate it. Being such a big fan of cookie butter that I had to try the ice cream, and let me tell you guys, it sucks. The cookie butter part of it is great but all the ice cream surrounding it was garbage. I quite know how to describe it, but it left me with a bad aftertaste...and didn't give me that feeling of wanting to eat more and more like other ice creams do ( aagen daaz or ben&jerry's level ice cream). I absolutely love Trader Joe's. I drive atleast once a week from Zachary to get my groceries ! They offer great prices on vegetables , fruit and fresh flowers. They have great prices on flowers so if you love flowers and have never shopped at Trader Joe's you need to swing by . They have all types of products you can't find other places. I also love their garlic pizza dough it's so yummy and it's only like $1. They have a little spot in the back corner where they have three samples to try a drink, and two other items . I have found so many delicious drinks I never would have bought if I wouldn't have first tried them. I also love to get my filet mignon from here to cook at home! The cashiers are always fast and friendly so you get great service . You also don't have to set and wait for the cashiers to stop playing on their phones like you do at some grocery stores. read more

I regret not shopping here sooner. Last time I visited was in late 2018 before a birthday party. Just came in for 3 specific things, not to shop. Skip forward to last week I visited again with a friend. I was so excited to look around and try new things. My basket was full and I was fully expecting to break my budget but when I went to checkout, my total was only $30!! And the cashier bought me a reusable bag for next time! They had someone at the door with hand sanitizer and he was also cleaning all of the buggies and baskets. They also had sanitizer at all registers. I felt totally comfortable here, despite there being a pandemic happening. The trader Joe's brand chocolate covered pretzels I got are delightful and my favorite chocolate covered pretzels I have ever gotten. I look forward to coming back and trying more stuff. Only giving 4 stars because the bacon I bought was very fatty. Like barely any meat compared to the fat. But it was also only like $3 for the pack so I cant really complain too much. read more

Healthy doesn't have to cost, I managed to provied healthy vega/ vegetarian meals for two weeks on a American budget of $84.67. With prices-one haven't seen since the 1990s, one can definitely provide self or family. A few favorites found was 0.99 frozen brussels sprouts, vegetable pad thai-$2.99, and portobello mushrooms-$3.29. Honestly, one really can't find prices like this at Walmart; furthermore, one can assume that at least 60% of the food that's sold at Trader Joe's, is organic. Now, that fact is not base on any statistic, however, just for shopping there for over 2 years, I can attest to it. But, one should always go and check these things out for oneself. read more

I dread going grocery shopping, but Trader Joe's makes it less painful and without breaking the bank either! Everything here from the produce, fruits, frozen food, wines, etc. are more than reasonably priced. When I see the total I never go into shock. I love walking into the store to see the colorful and fresh, seasonal plants and for the best prices in town. A small orchid would be around $6-7 and their peonies (my favorite flower) are around the same price too. The frozen foods here are a must try if you haven't explored that section yet! They have single-handedly changed my mind about frozen foods that it CAN be healthy as well as delicious! Their frozen healthy food options is pretty extensive and absolutely amazing. Their ready-made salads and wraps in the produce section are BOMB. You can find healthy snack options galore here! Health freaks, REJOICE! It's not hard to fall in love with shopping here. There are always new Trader Joe's brand snacks and foods released every so often too. How are the 2-bite cupcakes you ask? Amazing. Try it. Love it. PRO TIP: I always get my Fiji water here because 1.5L is $1.99, which is the cheapest you will find it in town. Trust me, I looked everywhere. Luckily if you want to buy things in bulk they will do holds for you to pick up! I think they'd hold anything for you actually if you ask. Another PRO TIP: Also at any Trader Joe's you can ask to try before you buy! (As long as it's not frozen food, raw meat, etc.) Their customer service is always, always exceptional. Ahhhhh a much needed review update for one of my favorite stores. I have been shopping at a Trader Joe's since I was a teen, lived down the block from one in Los Angeles, so when they made their way into the lives of Louisianans and the Baton Rouge neighborhood it was a huge deal! This is now my neighborhood store. I can't live without TJ's. Some may argue that it's a small store, but it's filled with all the riches I need in my pantry and refrigerator. Plus, the prices are just right! You are welcomed with a gorgeous floral section, then an abundance of produce and a plenthora of goods that will make you swoon. My recent favorites are their pre-made salad and soup selections (cold section). I also love their frozen dessert section: filled with so many goodies from their recurring items to their unique/seasonal items. So much good stuff! Their wine and cheese sections are pretty fabulous, too and they just so happen to be next to each other. Three cheers for perfect pairings, right? Make sure to take the time to explore all this store has to offer and if you haven't already, step out of that box and try some of the different food and drinks they have. This is the first time I've been to this store. I've been to one in San Francisco years ago but this one was way nicer. The staff is very helpful and check out people were very nice and personable. The store in general was very clean and everything was well presented. Some of the shelves were not fully stocked but generally it was a nice place to browse and I picked up a few things. Looking forward to trying wine in a can. I will update this review after I try some of the products. Well I tried the potato latkes and they were great. We finally made it to Trader Joe's. It was pretty awesome. I'm thrilled that I will be able to buy some of my favorite stuff again that I have missed or have not been able to transport back with me from California when I visit back home. Being a California native, I grew up when TJ's was still just a wine and cheese gourmet shop. I have watched them expand over the years into what they are today. I was disappointed that so many who Yelped it already have given such low scores. You need to understand the concept of Trader Joe's. They are a country wide chain now and they gather products and ideas from all over the world and incorporate them into their own. This is NOT the store to come to if you are looking for Louisiana seafood or local fare from Baton Rouge or the surrounding area. If local shrimp is what you want, then by all means go to your favorite local seafood store, not here. Also, if you are looking for brand name items, you will not find that here either. Trader Joe's puts together their own products and labels them with their brand label. These products tend to be much better quality and the prices are more reasonable than even Walmart. Back to this particular store - I think they did a great job so far. I was able to find most of the things I like. There were a few things they do not have that the California stores do have. The banana prices were ten cents more than the California stores, but I understand it's regional. We enjoyed perusing the store and nibbling on all of the free samples. I wish they would build one in Metairie, but Baton Rouge will have to do. read more

Why do people hate on Trader Joe's so much?? I'll admit, after hearing my sister who lives in NY go on and on about it and finally going when they opened one in Houston, I was not impressed. I was expecting much more. But after going a couple more times, I've truly developed an appreciation for TJ's. Yeah, its on the smaller side, but what you'll find inside will delight your taste buds if your a true foodie. I don't do my main grocery shopping here, but if I'm ever in the area where there is one close by, I always stop and get my specialty items (Ezekiel Bread, black rice, ready made salads, etc). Oh and the wine....lawwwdddddd. I'm not a sommelier by any means, but I do love me some reasonable priced wine that doesn't give me a headache after. My feeling towards this location of TJ's mirrors my overall feelings of the chain: it's OK for a few things, but not a place to go for everyday grocery shopping. It's also vastly overrated. The cookie butter is unique and tasty, and whenever I'm swinging through Baton Rouge I'll make a stop just for that, but everything else is just not that amazing. Think mostly snack type foods and an admittedly very large selection of frozen foods. Trader Joe's business model is to find products from around the globe and rebrand them specifically for TJ's. It's essentially a lower cost version of World Market specifically geared towards groceries. This is all OK, but a major downside is that local products are rare to non-existent. Louisiana produces some of the best produce, meat, and seafood, and you won't find Louisiana satsumas or shrimp at TJ's. I understand this is part of their business model, but Whole Foods manages to strike a pretty good balance between healthy, globalized products and local specialties. TJ's has rather small stores as well, this location is smaller than the Whole Foods on Broad Street in NOLA which I've always considered pretty tiny. In addition, one of TJ's signatures, Two Buck Chuck (which is actually $3), is now carried by Whole Foods for the same price under a different label. It's worth it if you're already in the area, but why anyone would go out of their way to come here is beyond me. read more

Trader Joe's is not somewhere that you can do all of your grocery shopping. But if you know that going in, you won't be disappointed. I go here for my produce and some organic meat options as well as several of their packaged items. My favorites: 1. Chocolate croissants 2. Corn Salsa 3. Frozen tamales (beef or sweet corn) 4. Frozen Haricot verts 5. Kettle Corn 6. Organic boneless chicken thighs 7. Grass-fed ground beef 8. Veggies and fruit 9. Packaged pecans and walnuts While many go for the cookie butter, I haven't been able to try it yet since I am currently soy free and it has soy flour. But I've heard some awesome things about it and can't wait to get some when my diet is back to normal. The downside: The produce and fresh meat options are not always available. I can't go expecting to get something specific because they may not have it. So usually when I go, I see what they have and plan my menu around it. Also, all of their sausage is chicken sausage. Give me pork or beef! Trader Joe's has great prices and customer service. And the products listed above are staples in my house. I made a trip there today and it cost less than $25. The same items at Whole Foods would have cost at least twice that amount. I'm so glad they came to our city! read more

Small footprint delivering a lot of value trader joes prides itself on high quality merchandise without the boutique prices. Good selection of some pantry staples and prepared foods. Their famous house wines at a bargain $2.99 are a draw for many. Great bread selection and lots of nice things if you're shopping for everyday or a party. Not sure it is worth a drive from NOLA on a regular basis - especially with the ugly Baton Rouge traffic - but it's a good stop when you're in the area! read more

Trader Joe's has replaced Target as my grocery store since it opened. They have an excellent selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, and dairy products. The prices are comparable to a Target and lower than Albertson's. I love that the vegetables have "packed on" dates instead of "sell by" dates so you know exactly what you're getting. You can get really good wines in the $5 - $8 range but you have to be careful because there's some bad ones in the price range. The Trader Joe's branded $3 wines are drinkable but do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks to get decent wine. I always recommend Chile, Argentina, and Australia for decent wines under $10. I love the bread selection as well as the feta and hummus. The prices are very reasonable for high-quality food with natural ingredients. One of my favorite things is they always have lots of cashiers and you never have to wait in line for longer than a few minutes. It's also nice that you don't have to unpack your whole cart onto a conveyor belt just to put it all back into the cart. read more
