We don't have TJ in Canada, so this was an exciting trip. They had so many things I wanted to try, and things I've never seen or only read about. Honestly, the matcha greek yogurt was one of the best things I ate on the whole trip. Really great pit stop, or if you're like us, you can pick up some snacks for the hotel room (we got some crackers, cheese, meat, and some cool craft beer). I always a fan of Trader Joe's,but not this location. Since COVID-19,at the every store front one of the staff check the customer coming in. It's no problem,but the problem is, that one of male staff ,he requested me to leave my shopping bag to the cart before entering,so I politely asked him that if i could keep it with me , because I had my iPhone,my wallet, all my money in the bag ,and if I had to leave my bag, I had to take my things out and had to hold them with my hand while I was shopping...it was very inconvenient. Love Trader Joe's! We came here several times for lunch and snacks on a recent trip to Chicago. Staff were friendly and cashiers gave my son stickers a few of the times we visited, which he loved. I have to say, I was very disappointed in a turkey and cheese sandwich I bought that had literally a sliver of turkey in it. And they only sell individual beers/ciders in 4's or 6's (can't remember the exact number). However, the "two buck chuck" more than makes up for any of Trader Joes' shortcomings. $2 bottles of wine that are actually drinkable? Get the hell out of here! First off, Trader Joe's is just simply the best. They have a decent amount of spices for a beautiful price, most of them being $1.99, you just cannot beat that! And they are all fantastic. Honestly, I am able to get most of my weekly grocery shopping done here! Sometimes, I'm a little disappointed because they may be out of the specific item I am looking for (i.e. chicken jalapeno sausage, frozen raw shrimp, organic brown microwavable brown rice, butter chicken, guilt free mac and cheese) but, to be honest, I understand WHY these items may run low, all of them are effin fantastic! And.. I tend to sometimes go there pretty late.. my own fault.. Additionally, a lot of their produce is fresh and clean. This is something I can appreciate. Sometimes not as huge of a selection as in a regular grocery store.. but still, better prices. They also have a great variety of flowers! And the prices are gorgeous.. I've definitely gotten almost $30 worth of flowers for my whole apartment and they last so long! Finally, the place is clean and their customer service is bar none. Everyone is so helpful and accommodating, I can't ask for anything more! Tip: If you like chocolate chip cookies AT all I suggest getting their chocolate chip cookie dough all evenly portioned out, break and bake. You won't be sorry. read more

This Trader Joe's is really frustrating. Three times in the last few months it's been closed with no warning. This time, it was because of a rat. 1. why did y'all let a rat live in there for so long, it was MONTHS. 2. it doesn't take the rest of the day to find a freaking rat. This store sucks. I always have to go to another store after my trip to this Trader Joe's-I don't know if it's because stock is not being ordered or what...but it sucks. You can't get the attention of any staff member, they live in their own world, or are more interested in whatever a coworker is saying. I ALWAYS leave with with 2-3 things still on my list. This store was a little busier than in used to but very convenient as it's around the corner. All the cashiers were in and the lines moved fast. The stand with the chicken was dripping and that really threw me off. I couldn't tell if it was the chicken but i couldn't buy it after that. Some of the Trader Joe's chicken packaging needs to be fixed as it often leaks. The rest of the product was lovey per usual. There's apparently a bunch of male Karen's working at this store. I had a horrible experience prior to even walking into the establishment. I was accosted in the parking lot before I could even shop by an employee, by the name of Bob, if that's his real name. My son and I parked in Trader Joe's so we could buy beverages and other snacks.. he decided to go into some other stores while I shopped. When I realized I didn't have the parking pass (that he grabbed as the driver) I walked to the exit to yell to him I needed the pass. He handed it to me and I bent down to put it in my bag. The exit door swings open and I jump out of the way as I almost get hit with it! I say excuse me as I assume this gentleman who appears to be an employee must be late for work. He proceeds to shout that parking is for customers. I say that's not a problem! He said well you're not going into the store. I said sir, I am speaking with my son then doing some shopping. He keeps barking at me and I ask him to leave me alone. You cannot control how or when I enter the store. He wouldn't stop - and we begin to escalate the conversation. I am SHOCKED that this MAN is speaking to me, a WOMAN with such force and frustration. I did not feel safe going back into that floor, so I go downstairs and enter that way. I ask for a manager and explain. Nothing. The Gm comes over and I get the same speech from him. I said, SIR even IF I were in the wrong there's no reason to approach me that way, chase me, YELL or almost hit me with the door. I receive NO apology. NONE. For safety I decide to move my car and out of a lack of respect I refuse to shop. This whole situation was provoked by the staff. VERY disappointed in Bob, the manager and the GM. To add: I am a black woman and wish I could say this was an isolated assault. However the rage just won't allow to me feel that way. read more

I had never been to a trader Joe's before. This place was clean, well stocked and merchandised and had some interesting selections. Probably the most remarkable factor was the friendliness. The people here are SUPER friendly. Like almost awkwardly so in a neighborhood like River North, where everyone is cold and distant in their own little world. So if I'm ever feeling isolated and alienated and in need of a friendly face, I know to just stroll on over to Trader Joe's! The only problem is that there are very few name brands. Usually I'm not worried about that so long as I am getting a value. But most of their products are private label and seem to run about standard retail. But I can't get Helman's mayo! If I'm a label snob for anything it is mayonnaise. Not available at Trader Joe's! read more

I adore Trader Joe's. All locations. I was visiting Chicago for the weekend and was so excited there was a Trader Joe's near my hotel. I stopped here my first day for a few snacks and some beers to-go. Their mix and match six pack section was great! I found a TON of local beers for super cheap. The Trader Joe's in here is small compared to the other grocery stores around but I like it better. Everything I needed basic items or unique items is available and always on stock. It is also clean whenever I go in here, organized and it was easy to find anything. Products in here has a nice quality and never had I ever found a single expired product. Staffs on the other hand are all friendly and helpful and it was always nice to talk to them if I have concerns. Their produce section which is very important in my grocery is fresh. That is all. I love going to Trader Joe's , still going there after this review. But tonight (8/9)customer service manager didn't give me pleasant customer service. I bought the food in were gone bad and wanted to returned it( I bought 8/8 night time ) :broccoli and drumstick. It only happened twice when I shopped here over three years. Last experience, the return was nice and easy. Things happened I just want to address the issue. He didn't say "sorry" to me at all when this kind of thing happened. And gave me unpleasant look when I explained it. He did give me money back which it is not whole amount I totally understand. But again, no "sorry" at all as well. Unusual for trader joe! I got to say the meat quality here is not as consistent for my experience . So in the future, I will shop somewhere else for that. Still love shop here! read more

This TJs location is convenient to my place of employment so I find myself visiting often for quick lunch solutions. They have a decent selection of "a little bit of everything" but lack enough variety for me to consider it a full grocery store. I usually find myself settling on something if I buy lunch here as opposed to getting something that I really want. Their selection of items for someone looking for something to pop in the microwave back at the office needs work because most of the packages they have contain 2-4 servings and not everyone has a fridge to store leftovers. They are good for picking up your fruit, nuts, and other snacks that you might keep in your drawer for the week but if I lived in this area they would not be able to fulfill all of my grocery shopping needs. During a visit on 7-7-2017, I saw that they had Veggie Kabobs in packages of two so I thought I'd pick some up. In the first package I inspected, I saw that one of the peppers had mold forming. I brought this to the attention of two nearby staff members who inspected the remainder of the packages but ultimately only removed the initial package. I think they should have removed them all and returned them to the supplier. Most of the staff are usually very friendly but there are a few that seem to treat some customers differently than others. Management should pick up on this type of behavior and act accordingly. While not a reflection of the store itself, I've noticed that too many customers here are just plain rude! On more than one occasion I've had people reach past me to get something from the shelf or cooler directly in front of me without so much as an excuse me. read more

The first location in downtown Chicago. My primary grocery store due to easy access to multiple buses. Excellent quality for price. GHEE is a wonderful replacement to oils. Easy access is a treat. TJ CREAM CHEESE last longer than TJ's WHIPPED CREAM CHEESE. Variety of FROZEN NAAN is the best option for at home enjoyment as it has little or no synthetics compared to the fresh pre-made naan. GARLIC NAAN would certainly ruin your make out session. Spicy NAAN with FILLING is the perfect accompaniment to soups or light breakfast. Addiction to TREE RIPEN PEACH or NECTARINES. May be seasonal. The 4-ct option in a plastic has inferior taste. TJ's ORGANIC FAIR TRADE FIVE COUNTRY ESPRESSO BLEND is the perfect espresso for the Starbuck's recipe of MOCHA CAFE with cheap chocolate powder. It's dark without being bitter as it should be. TJ's ALKALINE WATER + ELECTROLYTES has the highest pH and the lowest price (about $1.50 for 1.5L (50.7 fl oz)). 1-star less as the impeccable, and thoughtful CUSTOMER SERVICE is now flawed. Management's inability to hire the typical TJ employee. Even though the NY Cashier is willing to accommodate, he certainly lacked enthusiasm, and above and beyond thoughtfulness. read more

This is without a doubt my favorite grocery store. The employees are so chipper, the prices are super reasonable and the food is honestly delicious. I think TJ's has the best frozen food section of all time and yes I would put it above Whole Foods. I honestly look forward to my weekly grocery shopping experience. Also the snacks and specialty items are delicious and the music is always fire . I love shopping while hearing some james brown or Pearl Jam. I love Trader Joe's products...everything is really good...in fact we do most of our shopping at Trader Joe's. The one star is for the staff here. They really seem to be getting grumpier by the day. This store does not have a happy vibe to it. First the customers at this location remind me of mean New Yorkers. Carts everywhere...no sorry or excuse me...just me first. I think that shoppers attitude then trickles down to the staff who has to deal with this negative energy. So when I walk in the staff seems to be walking around and avoiding contact with the customers. Not good!!! Someone needs to make the first step to turn this around. Can't we all just get along? The only reason I point this out is because the Trader Joe's on Clybourn Ave is the complete opposite. The staff here is friendly. They are always checking with customers if they need help. A few even know my name now...yes I feel like Norm on Cheers!!! So I just needed to point this out because the downtown location seems to make me unhappy. I really avoid it. In fact, I would rather drive to Clybourn even though this location is closer. Hopefully management will read this and address the issue!!! read more

Not as busy as the TJ's on Clybourn and this one is in within walking distance to my condo. Therefore, I don't have to deal with the Clybourn TJ's horrendous parking lot where about 95% of my "driving mishaps" (all not my fault of course) have happened. Besides that it's not really any different than any other TJ and they have all my favorites: oatmeal cookies, Australian licorice, brown rice, etc. Oh, and the people who work here are super helpful. My husband had a slight freak out that his favorite green chile enchiladas may have been discontinued when he didn't see them here today, but one of the employees went in the back and informed us they were just out of them this week. I won't repeat all the positive comments--atmosphere, reasonable prices, fun, good foods (Oh! I guess I did just repeat them *grins*). Anyway, let me focus on the good free parking. You access it off Rush street on the east side of the building. It's not totally apparent unless you know to look for it. You will enter and go up a very steep ramp. Once in, the Trader Joes floor is very clearly marked. There are carts there and a nice roomy elevator. Ample room in elevator to bring your goodies out in your cart. My cranky hubby was pleasantly surprised with the arrangement. read more

Sometimes you will have to wait in line to get in because of Covid, but on the other hand, you will never have to wait in line after you get in. They have a good variety of fresh produce, and the prices are almost unbeatable. The quality is one of the best. Smaller compared to others in the area, but you will find almost everything you need. I've been to better Trader Joe's in other cities but I get why this store is smaller than say out west and it's because this one is right in the city and space is more of a premium here. TJ's is much more economical than the new Whole Foods near Grand and Columbus but the new WF by is much larger and has much more selection in food. I was disappointed to see that TJ's didn't even have refrigerated water and other cold drinks. That is something you can get pretty much anywhere except this TJ's. read more

I came here mostly to look at the artwork. It is incredible! They probably thought we were tourists because we were taking so many pictures. LOL. I was drawn to this location because I saw an image of the Bean. There are several Chicago themed signs including the Hancock, the Lion outside the art museum, Marina Tower, etc. It is so awesome! This location seems to have a lot of snacks, desserts, and chocolates. (More than in other locations.) It is one of the bigger locations I have seen. It is very clean and pretty new. A lot of the customers seem to be on the younger side. The employees are very friendly and I even heard them singing "Happy Birthday" to someone. The Yelp page says there is a private lot but I didn't really pay attention to that when I visited. I will have to ask next time. According to a SpotHero blog, there is free parking for one and a half hours. It is located at 44 E Ontario St. and the cashier will validate your receipt. read more

Trader Joe's - Chimay Blue label. The best ever! - Grocery Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Not the biggest Trader Joe's I've been to, but it's got two things going for it, an easy to get to parking lot and it's close to the loop, making it super convenient to stop by after work and avoid the rush hour on the way home. Generally I'll take the train in to work, but having this spot here lets me stock up and not have to do grocery shopping on the weekends. The selection, despite the size, seems to be about the same, and being Trader Joe's there are a lot of good things to try out. Big favs include Tribunal red wine, the ciabatta rolls (just finish baking for 4 minutes!), and of course a decent selection of veggies (it's not a full grocery, but it gets the job done for some quick weekday meal preps). I didn't have too many interactions with the staff here, since I pretty much knew what I wanted, but as per the norm with a TJ's store, they were all helpful and I did hear more than one "finding everything ok" here and there as I walked around. read more

Trader Joes - oh how I love you. This has to be the only grocery store I get really excited about. This place has an excellent selection of fresh veggies and fruits as well as aisles of baked goods and packaged foods. Their frozen foods are fair priced and good for when you are in a pinch for dinner. I come here for their kimchi packed in little bags next to the veggies. While foods has alternatives that are just horrible. So glad I don't have to go all the way to the burbs to get some decent kimchi. Cream Cheese - I go for the organic Trader's cream cheese which is delicious! I've tried so many different tubs and this is by far the best tasting. Traders has a huge variety of snacks so it never gets boring. Staff is super friendly and fast for checkout. So happy we have this location in downtown Chi. read more

Was visiting Chicago and was happy to find out that a Trader Joes in the area. I had never been to one. Was only a few minutes away from the Acme Hotel I was staying at. The store is very organized. The workers were very courteous. One lady offered to get my year old a kiddie shopping cart so she could push it around and help mommy shop. They offer fresh items, organic items. Not like typical chain stores that have an entire aisle dedicated to one them like rice or sauces. I was shocked to find bottle water for a couple of cents. Unfortunately, since I was only staying in a hotel I wasn't able to purchase items like I wanted to. I did purchase some croissants, their brand of milk, bottle water and hair products. The checkout was quick and effecient. They use paper bags and were courteous, even gave ny kiddos lollipops. read more

This location of TJ's is seriously amazing. I used to hate TJ's because the one near my house, in my young opinion, smelled a ton like cheese, and I don't like cheese very much. Still with me? You are? Aw, thanks. Anyway, this location has organic and well-made stuff WITHOUT the insane Whole Foods (or, more severely, Fox and Obel) prices. How? I don't know. I really don't know how it's possible, but I love it. Everything is $1-3, maybe even more $$$, cheaper than at even mainstream/non-organic grocery stores. The selection isn't amazing, simply because it's a small store that is more interested in quality, not quantity. I get that. I just wouldn't do all my grocery shopping here. The service is very polite and helpful, especially the checkout people. I love TJ's overall, but I'd still supplement it with other grocery trips for the sake of breadth. read more

Shouldn't come as a surprise, this is basically the identical review of the one on Lincoln but I have a photo this time. Let me present to the courtroom Exhibit A (I uploaded the photo), an acorn squash with a large amount of black and white mold on it. I've been to about 6 or 7 TJ's around the nation and I have yet to find out that has good produce. Unfortunately I didn't know how rancid the squash was until I turned it over and saw the spots and got the mold/pus/sticky crap on my hand. I asked the girl at the samples counter for hand sanitizer. Disgusting. I was on my way back to the red line and stopped in to get my few favorites here. This store is kind of a cluster but it's location is the reason. I went here for the first time yesterday during lunch, and I was really surprised. I was expecting this place to be expensive, but I think I paid less than I would have if I had gone to Jewel. I only got a few things (since I had to go back to work, and carry everything on the train, and I was running out of time). The Pomegranate Limeade is as delicious as it sounds. The honey wheat pretzels are even better than I was expecting. I didn't really like the chicken Shu Mai frozen appetizer, but I don't generally like them in restaurants either, my boyfriend did like them though (and they were bought for him, so it was all good). All in all I really can't believe I've never been here before. I'll be back! read more

I love this place and can't believe I haven't written a review before this. First - the staff. I've never been to a nicer store where everyone is so friendly and helpful. It's so rare these days to find a place where each staff member is cordial and having a good time - even though they are at work! I certainly am not that happy to be at work! As for the selection of food - that, too is great. It has so many unique selections of food and many different ethnic options. And what's really good is that everything is reasonably priced. I love going from aisle to aisle and finding different items to try. What is also great is that they always have some samples in the back that you will inevitably enjoy and then purchase.
