I remember now why they tell you to not go grocery shopping when you are hungry! Overall though what I purchased on my visit was a definite bang for my buck. Their frozen food selection is AMAZING! I love their Steamer Clams in Garlic Butter Sauce and the Turkey Bolognese Sauce. We all have that box of pasta in our pantry and both of these are perfect for creating a wonderful meal quickly. I used to come to TJ's a lot to get their seaweed snacks, but I've sort of OD on them and can't buy them anymore at the moment. Now it's peanut butter filled pretzels that I'm hooked on. Staff here are friendly and helpful. The line was a little long and another worker immediately jumped onto another register and got things moving. If you bring your own bags you get tickets to enter into a raffle to win a gift certificate. (Not sure that I will ever win. My luck just doesn't run that way, LOL.) While I enjoy the occasional trip to Whole Foods, I find my overal shopping experience at Trader Joe's just a bit more enjoyable and I still get a wide selection of healthy choices. read more

This one is a real hike for me, so I don't go there often. It's a great place to stock up for a party or holiday company though, with lots of crackers and snacks, cheeses, and other nibblies at very affordable prices. I can live without the two buck Chuck...I wouldn't even cook with it...but the inexpensive white is okay for cooking. Love Trader Joe's but really wish they would have more produce that hasn't been shipped in from New Zealand or Ecuador. I guess I can't complain too much since bananas are 19 cents each, insane. On weekends, this is a haven for the Short Pump suburban crowd. The parking lot is TINY. Never come here on the weekends unless you want to spend 20 minutes trying to find a parking spot. Not to mention when you get in the store you can hardly navigate it. I like to walk here from my apartment (The Flats at West Broad Village) to avoid that craziness. Usually when I'm here I stock up on: bananas, frozen organic strawberries, trail mix, Ends N' Pieces (delicious!!), Chipotle Red Pepper Hummus (best hummus w/ a kick) and Organic Raisin Bran w/ Clusters. A note about that last item: BEST RAISIN BRAN EVER. Why? It's all clusters and raisins. Yum. read more

Haven't been in a Trader Joe's until today, finally popped my cherry. I finally see what all the hype is about. I walked through the automatic doors, and they swooshed me into grocery heaven. My family, and I walked down the aisles about 5 times each, in a meager attempt to take everything in. We walked out with a cute little shopping tote full of just snacks, but it's okay because they're organic, gmo-free, free range, and the like right? Hahah. I absolutely love this place. My only wish is that there is another location in downtown Richmond. The wine prices are great and the food prices are cheaper than my local Kroger. I really like Trader Joe's in general - they have great products and the prices are fantastic. The store is small which means it gets very crowded at peak times. As a parent, this is good info to know if you have children or strollers with you. One thing I would definitely point out is CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES. I've taken it for granted before and unfortunately left and paid for groceries which were several days past their expiration dates. This is certainly my fault! But as I've begun to pay extra close attention to them, I've found frequently that lots of items are out of date. Just something to keep in mind and be on the lookout for. read more

I love love love Trader Joe's! I'm addicted to their frozen section - my freezer is literally stuffed to the brim with TJ frozen foods (you HAVE to try their orange chicken, mmm). The staff is super friendly too. I needed to buy vegan champagne and wine for a bridal shower and one employee spent over ten minutes with me talking about the different types available and looking up one brand we weren't sure about. I usually go on my days off (Tuesday or Wednesday) and it's never too crowded. I would probably avoid on a weekend though. read more

I like TJ's. It has mostly everything I would need in a quaint little grocery store. However, what really distinguishes this place from other grocery chains like Food Lion or Kroger's or Martin's is their unique selection of Frozen food items. They have alot of specialty frozen desserts which are to die for. I especially love their cheese cakes, maccaroons, pastries, and soy ice cream sandwiches. Also, the snack aisles are pretty inexpensive and yummy too. For $1.99 I can get a big back of sour cream corn puffs. The fresh vegetables and meat selection isn't very big. For meats, I prefer to go to Tom Leonard's across the street from TJ's. Unlike TJ's they have locally grown vegetables which is a plus. Anyways, for a grocery chain TJ's is pretty good considering it has alot of unique items you wouldn't find in a regular grocery store. Also, it tries to be eco-conscious by promoting reusable bags. The people are pretty friendly, the cashiers always have something to relate to you with whether it's a food item they've tried, the shirt you're wearing, the weather, etc. This place is a plus and I'm happy it's around. read more

Love Trader Joe's! I'm always tempted when you pass the flowers when you first enter and they are really affordable! Their selection of frozen foods is extensive from desserts like mochi ice cream and eclairs, cauliflower gnocchi, meatballs, pizza, orange chicken, curry, and more! They also have a wide selection of wine and a sommelier to help you select a wine. In the back, they have prepackaged food that you can either bake later or salads and sandwiches. It is a smaller Trader Joe's and parking can be a bit hectic, but small negatives compared to the wonderful things inside! I live a ways from Trader Joes but make the journey because of their unique items. Their wine is always a good deal and you can find reasonable prices on organic wines. They have lots of healthy snacks and easy to prepare meals. I will say from the customer side I always have two complaints- parking is always terrible and the store is always crowded. But that's probably a good indication of why they are so popular. read more

I love this grocery store because they have great products, it's easy to find vegan and vegetarian stuff, and the staff is always super friendly and helpful. It can get kind of crazy here so like if you don't like crowds come early in the morning or on a weekday or something. Also while the staff is awesome and really nice, a lot of the people who shop here are NOT. Typical shortpumpers... I get the feeling that most of the people who shop here wouldn't even notice if you died right in front of them. The parking lot is one of the most dangerous places I've ever been because the customers are so rich they could just run you over and pay for legal fees without it denting their savings account at all. Also TJ's has been taking a lot of precautions in regards to covid which is great. read more

I've heard nothing but amazing things about Trader Joes and how affordable they are so I decided to make the switch one day from Whole Foods. While I absolutely agree with the prices and 90% of my visit went well when I got home it was another story... My hummus had mold on it. Yuck! And the sunflowers I buy weekly at Whole Foods died within 2 days. And I know how to care for flowers! A good and smart Trader Joe's in Short Pump. Their primary advantage is in their dinner and beer options: they have mystery bags on both accounts, giving you the chance to choose your wares based on description. The choices are the same price as you would get if you picked the foodstuffs/beers out, but it's far more fun to get home and figure out what you just got. When I moved to Richmond 3 years ago, the lack of a Trader Joes was a HUGE problemo, so YAY for Trader Joes. I don't mind driving to short pump every couple weeks to stock up on easy frozen meals, no-pudge fudge brownie mix, and white cheddar corn puffs! Oh, their hummus and chicken sausages are awesome too... but I could go on forever. I am shocked I have not yet written a review for this place. I LOVE TRADER JOE'S! Besides the awesome pricing on wine and other items, everything I've ever tried with the Trader Joe's logo on it has been delicious! They have a few different microwaveable meals for $1.99, and they are all so good! Their bruschetta is so crave-worthy, I have to stop myself from buying it every single time. The panko crusted tilapia, first discovered by my gal Kimberly V., is so yummy and makes dinner simple for 2 nights of the week (four fillets per box). The marinated pollo asada is also an easy and delicious dinner, albeit a little expensive for me ($8-9). But I'm planning on grilling that & serving with white rice -- easiest dinner ever and so delicious too, I can't wait to make that! The coconut milk chocolate frozen dessert is delicious and cheaper than what's available in grocery stores. Or how about the dark chocolate covered almonds sprinkled with sea salt and turbinado sugar? Or the chocolate covered fruit chew pieces, called Powerberries? Seriously, everything here is AWESOME, and I agree with Lisa G. that the employees always seem super happy. It makes me want to work there. That, and the discounts on the already cheap delicious food available here. If you are throwing a party, do your shopping here and save money. read more

The parking kind of sucks and it can get REALLY crowded in here but the staff is very friendly and shelves are always stocked. They also give free samples of things, at least when I go on Saturdays. What's not to love about Trader Joe's? Selection, prices, customer service are all great. The only downside is the location... Short Pump is so congested with traffic that I rarely go anymore. I can only go during peak traffic hours and that is no fun. I'm not-so-secretly hoping that TJ opens up around the corner from me once my go-to Martin's shuts down... A Lakeside/Staples Mill location would be ideal! read more

This place is SOOO good. My friends out west had told me about it so I was excited to go when it came to short pump. I now live south of the james but drive here every week or 2 to stock up. LOVE the prices (CHEAP) and the foods. lots of easy to make meals and fab frozen deserts - try the Mango fruit frozen bars, the gnocchi, the sweet potato crisps, the yogurt, the mochi (frozen japanese ice cream pastries), the stir fry orange chicken in a bag (it's GOOD) etc. LOVE IT! read more

This Trader Joe's is on the small side but it's a great location. The running joke with Trader Joe's is that they are all seemingly located in the WORST parking lots- not this one! Ample parking and various other shops near by as well (petco, ulta and 5 below) it's nice to be able to run errands in short pump and also be able to pick up some grocery goods. Even though it feels like a smaller space the flower area and the wine/beer selection is more than enough (these two sections are my main go-to spots) staff is super friendly and always helpful! read more

I waited a long time for Trader Joe's to come to Richmond, VA. I used to shop there whenever in other cities that one. My only disappointments are 1) the location: waaaaay out in the west suburbs, so I only go there if I have another reason to be so far out of the city. I think of Trader Joe's as more of an urban place; 2) it is not one of the HUGE Trader Joe's that I was sued to. Open one near the corner of Forest Hill and Westover HIll BLVD and I'll be there at least 3 x per wee. There is a HUGE need for a grocery store (especially a good, alternative grocery store) in this area. I'll be the rent is very cheap and the place would be packed. I'd give it five stars if it were conveniently located. read more

Highly Biased, since I used these all the time when I lived in SF. Glad that Richmond or (Glen Allen) has finally gotten one. These stores offer slightly healthier options than you will typically find at other grocery stores. However, the selection will be very limited. By this, they will not normally sell the name brand stuff that most people are accustomed too. I usually still get my eggs, milk and meats from my normal grocery. At TJ's, is where any frozen foods, chips, snacks, cheeses and other items come from. Buyers should also note that while TJ's attempts to sell itself as a healthier option to ordinary groceries, they still have a large number of unhealthy options. Trader Joes.....everyone raves about it. I surmise that most are boozers who like that "Two Buck Chuck" as one would think they were drinking it right from the bottle while shopping....lol. OK, so what did I find that would make me give it four stars? There is no better place to buy gourmet appetizers for cocktail or dinner parties...pop them out of the box, slide them in the oven (in the provided oven save container) and you can cook 3 or 4 different things in one oven and on one temperature....doesn't get easier. My friends went nuts for them! They also have great inexpensive cut flowers. read more
