This store is always stocked and super clean. The employees are friendly and help you find things you need with a smile. Prices are unbeatable also. I can get groceries for two people for around $85 every two weeks, and it's mostly healthy and/or organic. Their frozen meals are delicious and easy to make, making week night dinners a breeze. Much better than typical grocery store offerings. The only complaint I have is that during covid, while they are staggering entry, the store is too crowded for my liking. Stand by it -- I understand the COVID-19 worldwide crisis but it would be nice if they would've had a better system to getting in the store besides standing out in the rain. A tarp perhaps? Just ask a stock boy/girl or any employee and they'll rip open a box for you. If you bring your own grocery bag, you are entered in a weekly raffle for a $25 gift card. Their return policy is phenomenal. If you aren't satisfied with the product you bought, you can return it, no issues! They have wine tasting every weekend and samples on a product or two. I love the variety of low carb/keto options that this store has but i must say I'm not a frequent shopper here because the staff that stocks the aisles/shelves are the rudest ever. I always thought it was a weekend thing because the store is the busiest but i visited during the week this week and had the same experience. The stockers will push boxes in front of you and you are shopping, if you are looking at something they will literally squeeze in-between you and the shelf to arrange it, I even had an associate put up a step ladder right in front of my cart while coming down the aisle. I drove almost 1hr today to visit my closest Trader Joes's. I totally forgot that it was senior hour between 8-9am. I was greeted by a kind employee named Kevin in the parking lot. He told me that it was senior hour BUT he said "is there anything that I can go inside to get for you instead...so you wouldn't have to come back at 9"? I was totally shocked. Any city without a Trader Joe's is slacking! This is such a great place for groceries and household items. I end up spending way less here than Kroger bc the options are limited and there are not endless aisles to get lost in. If you go on a weekend it will always be super busy but they tend to work pretty quick so I have not had to wait in line for that long! Even when they are busy you will always be able to find someone on the floor to help you answer any questions. The only con I can think of is the parking! It can get super busy and you may have to circle for a while to find parking. read more

Plus, they are always out of items...I get you occasionally run out of items, but I don't understand how the store can't anticipate it's needs and order accordingly. Trader Joe's, what would I do without your insanely affordable wine selection? You have really helped me out in a pinch, and allowed me to stretch my budget to the max when need be. Of course there's your two-buck chuck, but that's not even what I buy! I go for the rotating deals (prosecco for $4.99? yes, please!) and have found my favorite cheap wine on your shelves. I enjoy shopping from time to time here. Parking can be tricky since there are other popular stores in the same shopping center. When I do come to Trader Joe's, I mainly shop their frozen food section. I also shop here a for items that are Whole30 approved. Finding items without a lot of bad additives can be difficult. But back to the frozen foods. What a wide variety of things you don't see in your "everyday" grocery store! Tamales actually wrapped in corn husks! Their Chile Lime Chicken Burgers are delicious too. I love that they have an item on sale that they let you try. I've gotten hooked on one of their many trail mix varieties. You want nuts??? Well, they have nuts! Almonds, cashews, pistachios...you name it! And what cheese do you want with your wine or beer?? They have a huge variety of all three! read more

I'll admit, when Trader Joe's first opened in Richmond, like many others, I was wooed into submission. Having never shopped at a Trader Joe's before, I was amazed by everything they had available. Produce! Flowers! Frozen dinners that don't taste awful! Cheap and tasty libations! However, now that the novelty has worn off, I can safely say that my fiery passion for TJ's no longer burns with such intensity. In fact, it's pretty much at a low sizzle, and there's a couple good reasons why. First off, the location of this Trader Joe's sucks big time. It's out in the middle of suburban shopping mall hell, with a teeny parking lot and is always filled with West End soccer moms that let their adorable children screech and run unsupervised throughout the store. Schlepping out here is like pouring salt in open wounds. Secondly, I hate to break up the Hawaiian shirt themed party, but the folks who work here fall into two categories: obnoxious or grumptastic. When I'm checking out, I don't need to be assured by the cashier that the frozen mango bars I got are "SOOOO GOOOD" or that the cranberry trail mix is "one of my favorite things EVER OMG". On the other hand, I don't need to argue with grumpy old men about what's the best way to bag up my groceries. And lastly, but most importantly, I've learned not to get attached to any Trader Joe's product. Ever. Because the next time you go to the store, it could be either a) temporarily out of stock or b) GONE FOREVER. So yeah, those frozen banana waffles you liked? Fat chance. Those bags of frozen pasta with spinach and eggplant? Buh-bye. So many products I once enjoyed have disappeared completely, or are never in stock that it makes buying things here a total crap-shoot. I used to come here and fill a shopping cart with ridiculous quantities of foodstuffs. And I still shop occasionally to scavenge for the few products I like that haven't been sent off to the Trader Joe's graveyard. But now? I use a hand cart and even that doesn't get completely filled. I'm as in love and crazy about Trader Joe's as the next fresh market gal who loves great prices on great food....but does anybody feel me on the fact that this place is hopping almost 24/7 (a good sign of greatness I know) and makes me feel like I am ALWAYS in someone's way....AH! Either I am swerving around someone, saying, "I'm sorry" for being in someone's else's way (or imagining I am in someone's way), or trying to get to a product where someone is in my way! Ha! The grocery store itself....pretty much always in great order (minus all the people, lol) and from time to time things running out and your like, "where is the..." and a staff member sayings their all out but the new shipment will be coming "in a few days" (those moments btw are a bummer, but also something I can live with) The prices...SO GREAT! The quality....Oh so good, Oh so fresh....your body will thank you profusely for buying the "good stuff" (and don't be afraid of the off brands, they are JUST as good...Trader Joe brands are really really good as well ,so go with it without reserve or hesitation if you're asking yourself right about now "is this really as good as it looks?!" Why YES, it REALLY is as good as it looks! Trader Joe's knows what it's doing...and does it VERY well! I'm sorry Trader Joe's, as much as I love you and am grateful you came to Richmond I have to dock this location a star for a couple of reasons. I have consistently found the quality of dairy at this store to be lacking. More then once I've bought a cream cheese or other dairy product only to come home and realize it's spoiled. I realize that there aren't that many distribution sites on the East Coast, but this is a problem that needs to be fixed. I also understand that I could just bring in the spoiled food and you'd replace it, but I never do because Short Pump is out of the way. My other qualm is with some employees. Now while the managers at this location are the nicest people you'll ever meet. Some of the check-out people will get an attitude and argue with you if you ask about a favorite product being out of stock or being re-placed with another. At Trader Joe's on the West Coast employees want feedback of the products and take requests into account. They don't shut you down, say your opinion is wrong and too bad. read more

I cannot get enough of Trader Joe's. It is the most affordable healthy shopping experience that you will find. The wine selection is ridiculous (in a superb way) and the snacks are unique and delectable. I love the laid back atmosphere but I agree with other yelpers that it is definitely worthwhile to go midday during the week and NOT on a weekend. It is simply too crowded in Short Pump in general and TJ's teeny parking lot cannot handle the influx of hungry customers. Although the store is small, I can find items there that I have never seen anywhere else. I am in love with their personal products such as the face lotion, shaving cream, Vitamin E oil, and tea tree shampoo and conditioner. I have even gotten their canned cat food for my kitty (who loved it). I wish they had a frequent shopper card (like a Kroger plus card), but they do have a few weekly sales. I come here for the Speculoos Cookie Butter mostly, which I am sure has been blended with crack or a crack like substance! It is THAT good! What's even better is that there are no limits on how many you can purchase like other TJs. That said, I love this place! It's a bit smaller than other TJs I've been too, but it is expected for a smaller city like Richmond. I like TJs wine and cheese selection and will often come here for my cheeses over Whole Paycheck, I mean Whole foods, when I want quality cheese to make my mac n cheese. Trader Joe's produce selection is great too and it always looks fresh. If you've ever been in a Trader Joe's, you won't find this one to be mysterious at all. They have a wide selection of reasonably priced groceries, with emphasis on snacks, wines, cheeses and produce - this is not a grocery store like Kroger or Food Lion. Many of the items there are Trader Joe's brand, which are surprisingly good - I am a big fan of the hot chai mix, and their tea selection is phenomenal. I can also heartily recommend the honey that they have, since it was tested by Consumer Reports and found to be some of the purest, best honey around (as distinct from the over-processed, filtered imported "honey" that you might get in a big chain supermarket). The only reason I don't give five stars is that the checkout process can be a madhouse in this store, so definitely don't try to run through for a quick visit, or come on a tight schedule. There are only a few registers, the lines are usually long, and the emphasis on personal service from frontend personnel is nice but can extend the wait for each person in line while the customer at the front receives their full dose of helpful and friendly service. Do yourself a favor and do NOT come here on a Saturday (short pump on a Saturday is usually insane anyway so I say avoid the area in general). The parking lot is tiny! There were no parking spaces, and plenty of cars cruising around for a spot - felt like I was in shark-infested waters. I visit Trader Joe's fairly often, usually when I'm in the shopping center at another store. Last night, I went in search of food. I found a steak, Yukon gold potatoes and was going to make a savory meal. I decided to venture down the most crowded aisle and that completely changed my meal decision . I ended up purchasing frozen orange chicken, chicken shumai a three pack of microwaveable brown rice , sparkling pomegranate juice and dark chocolate peanut butter cups ( I can never resist an impulse buy). the meal was delicious The chicken took about 20 to 25 minutes to cook the rice took 3 mins and the shumai were ready in 2 mins. overall a tasty, simple meal for 1 under $20. I will be back soon to see what other dinner lunch items i can discover. read more

Love love love Trader Joe's! I've been to this location twice and I've been able to avoid the crazy crowds. I usually have to come in with a specific game plan, otherwise I get distracted by all the goodies. I love having goat cheese with Naan. That was the reason I stopped in today. Some honey goat cheese and blueberry goat cheese on naan, or pretzel bread, which is what distracted me today. Ever since I had burgers on pretzel bread buns, I fell in love with pretzel bread. Thanks TJ's for having it in store. You name it and TJ's has whatever you need for all your taste buds. I used to frequent TJ's a lot more back in California. This Trader Joe's is really well done! It is spacious, and it's bigger than the one we have in Charleston. I went to this TJ twice during my visit in Richmond, and was really impressed by the employees who were helpful, and consistently offered assistance as I made my way through the store. During my 2nd visit, I went to checkout and the lines were getting long. They quickly opened two other lines and I was checked out quickly. We bought a Half-Spiral Cooked Ham....for Christmas,.......no nitrates, antibiotics, water or other junk in the ham. One Spiral Ham....bought! Ham.....yey! I didn't buy any wine but they have a good wine selection esp. for value. The best IMHO! Sounds like I'll have one on the Southside out Hull St. In about a yr-18 months....can't wait....well, I'll have to, I don't have a choice ;-)...but looking forward to it. It's about time RIchmond had a Trader Joe's!! Great selection of bread, cereal, frozen foods, Mochi, facial products---at a reasonable price. Make sure to head to the back and try their coffee. If you have a hard time cutting back on refined sugar, I highly suggest you try the Stevia extract. It's a naturally derived sweetener and it is AWESOME!!!! The only down side is it's location (10-15 minute drive from the fan). The best time to head out here is midday or after 7pm (M-F) or the weekend. read more

I am definitely a fan of Trader Joe's. When I lived in NoVA there was no shortage of TJ locations, so when I moved here I was disappointed that there was only one. I am in and out and have a very irregular work schedule. I have evening meetings and am always in the car, so being able to go to TJ's and buy a decent frozen meal that I can pop in the microwave or cook on the stove in about 15 minutes when I get home saves me from spending a lot of money eating out. While this isn't the biggest or best location that I've been to, it's just fine. Some things are occasionally out of stock when I want them, but most of their popular items are usually there. I love being able to buy orange chicken or bibimbap, freeze them when I get home, and actually have a decent tasting meal. And on top of that, the prices are very fair. I can usually buy a meal for somewhere between $5-$8 that is good for two people (or leftovers if I'm alone). read more

I love Trader Joe's! They offer a lot of healthy selections with moderate prices and not extremely expensive prices. It may be a small store, but Trader Joe's has plenty to offer. I noticed that they have a great selection of frozen food. Its a very diverse selection as well, with foods ranging from American to Chinese, to Indian to Italian, etc. There's also a great selection of snacks as well. My favorite snack there is the white cheddar corn puffs. I remember a representative from this store came to talk to my retail management class at VCU about Trader Joe's, and he gave us all a reusable grocery bag with a bag of white cheddar corn puffs in it. That's how the corn puffs became an instant favorite of mine. I would shop here a whole lot if it was closer to where I live. The drive is definitely worth it, but it would be great if they would open up a Trader Joe's in Chesterfield one day! read more

They have a few things that I have incorporated into my everyday cooking routine (pesto pizza crust, delicious seasonal ravioli flavors, sun dried tomatoes, indian food, organic stevia extract, etc.) and I always try to get something unique or new when I shop. It's always a different experience because new items are constantly on rotation with the different seasons and holidays which makes walking the aisles really fun. Soooooooo, this is the closest TJ's within the Richmond area. I suppose it's in the "white" neighborhood - no offense. The stores surrounding depict the this area's demographics. The people here were friendly, but it seemed like they workers, were afraid to say, "hello!" or "hi". I'm comparing my experience to my local Phoenix neighborhood TJ's where they were all bubbly and happy to be there. This place didn't really have that. The guy serving the wine was very knowledgeable but at the same time he was just doing his duty for the day. He should've smiled more. :D I'm going to have to come back here every other week just to get some groceries. There's really not much selection in Petersburg area for "health food" - although, I did read the issue of Fortune magazine where they were talking about Trader Joe's secret... It's quite interesting - company like Dannon (the people that make yogurts and dairy products) have an independent label within TJ's it's such a lucrative business people are sworn to secrecy. I really am a fan of Trader Joes - just sad it is not closer to where I live. I always like to stop in for some of my basic cooking goodies, like olive oil, etc. However, on my last stop in I was quite impressed with the wine selection (I snagged up a very tasty white wine) along with some beautiful (and long lasting) flowers to spruce up my kitchen. What a great spot for goodies not on my list....like the organic dark chocolate candy bar I grabbed at checkout. A bit of a different routine for checkout compared to most grocery stops (like Kroger or Martins), but the staff are super friendly. Check out their gluten free options for those with food allergies. I have never found a product with HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) in any product, which has me coming back for more for my sensitive food needs. read more

How awesome is Trader Joe's? The answer to that question would be very! We made the trip down from Fredericksburg this weekend to check it out and it was well worth the trip. The store is pretty small compared to other grocery stores (even the small Whole Foods in DC) but it is stocked full of wonderful things we'd never seen before. We were expecting high prices, and we found them, but we were surprised to find a number of things that were actually below the price of a comparable item at Wal-Mart or Wegmans. For instance we went home with two lbs. of ground beef when we saw it was so much cheaper than what we usually get. We also found a few good snacks for less than $2.50 and of course we went home with a few bottles of two buck Chuck wine (actually, it's $3.29 Chuck). The staff was very friendly and we left the store hoping that we'll get a Trader's in Fredericksburg ASAP so we don't have to make the hour-long trip to get our fix! read more

I love Trader Joe's. Despite my love, I don't see how some people can do their full grocery shopping here, but all my experiences in Trader Joe's has been overwhelmingly positive. I usually stick to buying beer and wine, but will sometimes buy some or their desserts, meats, or other specialty items. The customer service is amazing. It always throws me off when an employee will tell me I can try anything I like before buying, or bring it back (even a bottle of wine I drank anyway) and get a refund if I didn't 100% love it. I've never done this, but its great to know its an option! I love the wine selection, especially because most everything is $10 or less (there are a few exceptions). I have varieties that I have picked as house staples and all range in the $4-6 range. And regardless of the low price, its quality wine well worth a higher price tag.
