Brand new grocery store built from scratch. Nice and clean for sure. With all the hype, I was very disappointed. Isles felt small and cramped even in uncrowded areas, of course it was crowded in most places, but that is to be expected on day one. Prices of some of my favorite things were about $2 more than where I usually shop, some prices about the same, but nothing less than what I'm accustomed to. All employees friendly and nice. I would not make an effort to shop here, but if you live close, it's nice enough. Two stars is too low, 3 stars is too high. read more

I went to Publix pharmacy today (9/5/18) at noon, standing there at the counter for about 10 minutes and the staffs really ignored me. they were talking to each other, pretended I was invisible. They did not greet me at all, just ignored me. Terrible!!! I walked away, went to Costco to get my prescription. Stay away from this business. Unremarkable. That is Publix in a word. In fact, I am hard pressed to think of anything to add beyond that. First, what sets Publix apart from Kroger, Lidl, Aldi, Wegman's and Food Lion? Nothing. They sell all the same food, they also sell wine, have a bakery etc. Well, wait there is one thing I noticed and that is that the items I went to purchase on my trip there, which will be my last one, were significantly more expensive than either Kroger's or Wegman's. Not sure about Food Lion as there is not one that is convenient to me. Ok, so here's what I picked up: 1. Zucchini: At Publix $1.29/lb, at Wegman's 99 cents 2. Bananas (not organic) 55 cents/lb Public, 49 Cents at Wegman's 3. Canned food (store brand at both): 5 for $4 or 80 cents each at Publix, 59 cents a can at Wegman's. 4. Halo Top frozen dessert: $5.99 at Public, $3.99 at Wegman's. 5. Apples: $2.49/lb at Publix, $1.99 at Wegman's. I only got as far as these items until I found myself at the point that I did not want to go down another aisle. So, I put back the items I chose and walked out of Publix and went to a competitor where I picked up all of the above and more for less than I apparently would have paid at Publix. Yes, it is a new and shiny store, but honestly set back and ask yourself what do they have to offer? Lower prices? Unique items? Answers are no and no. Will they be in the Richmond market in 5 years? Dunno, will wait and see. At this point for lower prices and quality items there are plenty of other options in the Richmond area. read more

The staff here is amazing. The store is always clean and organized. Publix is my new favorite grocery store to visit. Their deli has several options. They have a sandwich bar similar to subway where you can get wraps, subs or even salads. Their sandwiches use their fresh cut deli meats. Some of their food you can find to be a little pricey, but they have wonderful selections. Although I don't come to this location as it's out of my way, when I'm in the area, I definitely will stop. read more

Okay, so Publix is new to Richmond and I've always heard great things about this chain, mostly from people who are from Florida where Publix is prevalent. Based on the many positive things I've heard, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, each of my visits have been a disappointment. To begin with, I have used their online ordering service four different times to order a sub sandwich. The online ordering option lets you designate a pick-up time. Only once out of four times, was my sandwich ready at the designated time. In fact, it hadn't even been started. There's no point to online ordering if you still have to wait for them to make your sandwich. The sandwiches are good, once you get them, but the online ordering service is a failure. I give up. Won't try it again. Today I bought biscuits from their bakery department. They were raw and doughy in the middle and obviously not made from scratch; think canned biscuits. YUCK! Also, I purchased hamburger patties from the meat department. The patties looked fresh on the top of package, but once I opened them, I realized the bottom of each burger was brown and contained old meat. I guess this is a trick the meat department uses to get rid of outdated meat. I don't like to feel that I've been tricked (sigh....). Ultimately, I give them two stars only because most of the employees are courteous, and the store usually has weekly BOGO items that are a good deal. If Publix wants to survive in the Richmond grocery market, they need to step up their game big-time!! read more

The staff are friendly but this location is small based upon others I've visited. On grand opening, they provided each shopper with a Publix reusable bag. In some items, the prices are lower than other grocers. What baffles me is how the Publix brand is costlier than the major brands. This is a first that I've seen at any local grocer where I've lived throughout the United States. Publix does have digit coupons and will accept manufacturers coupons and their local competitors coupons too. They have a Starbucks located inside. Went here twice. First time was on day one and was nice enough and very organized grocery store. Second time was about a week later and I went to order half a sub. The first woman in the line of associates servicing us was very rude and acted insulted I even requested chicken tenders for my order (they apparently ran out and didn't have it posted anywhere that they were - more on that later). Once I figured out an alternative meat it took nearly 25 minutes to receive my half sub order. I literally stood at the end of the line for 15 minutes waiting while others behind me were getting there sandwiches. I nearly walked out without lunch because I was cutting it really close to being late to work. Last but not least, they actually weren't out of chicken tenders.. they just never looked inside the oven until a manager came over and looked inside. It was too late for me as I didn't want to wait any longer for my order.. I finally got to work and the sub wasn't even that good. Great store. It's not as large as some of the other grocery stores in the area, but they still seem to have a huge selection of products. Most important, the food/ produce seems to be of better quality than most competitors. I would say Publix is way better than Walmart, Food Lion, Martin's, and most Krogers. The motto, "Where Shopping is a Pleasure" isn't just a clever tag line that they came up with, but a way of life for the amazing associates who work at this store. Once you shop at Publix, you won't be able to go back to any of the other mediocre grocery stores in the area, and yes this includes Wegmans. Publix brings a refreshing southern hospitality to the shopping experience including actually walking you to the right place when you ask for help finding an item, breaking packages of meat when you need a different amount, helping you take your groceries to the car and load them, always having associates in the aisles to help, greeting you with a smile, and actually moving out of your way when stocking so you can easily reach an item. The sub shop is easily a standout, they'll even use any meat in the deli to customize a sub. And the bakery makes the best Cuban bread in the state! The prepared foods were delicious, but the fried chicken is to die for. Even with this being opening weekend, there was barely a hiccup in sight. I also love how bright the store is compared to Wegmans, you have to trust that your staff will appropriately clean, which Publix always seems to do perfectly. read more

I fell in love with Publix on trips to Atlanta years ago and was happy to see them make the move to VA. As for this particular location, I visit occasionally to pick up lunch on the go (generally sushi) and am always pleased with the level of service here. Every employee greets me with a smile and a welcome, and that's just not something you get everyday. (I'm a sucker for southern hospitality!) In addition, the store is always spotless, which is what I want to see when I'm buying food. The prices are a bit too steep for me, so I tend to go elsewhere for regular grocery shopping, but Publix always works for ready made items. read more

The two chefs leading the class were fantastic, the food was great, and the atmosphere was top-notch! Considering the cost of classes at Sur La Table, the class was a great value as well. I have been to several grocery stores throughout the years, and I have been so impressed with the level of customer service at this location. I was looking for some Frito Lays, and could not find them. One of the staff asked if I needed help finding something, and he knew where they should be, and moved a couple other snacks to find them for me! Bought some super over priced flown in local Week old Atlantic striped bass(rockfish) today.. smelled so bad when we opened it that we had to put it in a ziplock to deal with the stench. Great news is we can drive across town,return, and get a refund tomorrow. If you're going to charge $28.99 per lb for a local product, no reason it shouldn't be fresh. Kroger ended up saving the day with FRESH Rockfish for an affordable $14.99 per lb. There are plenty of good grocery stores in the Richmond area, do yourself a favor and avoid publix. read more

I got hipped to Publix last year during a business trip to Tampa, Florida. I will tell you this right now, the things that makes Publix stand out from other grocery stores and pharmacies are: (1) They have a very good prepared food selection and their chicken, rotisserie, tenders and whole fryers are good (2) They have a solid bakery (3) Their sandwich station is on point (4) and the selling point for me, Publix pharmacies has a list of medications that are absolutely free of charge, no gimmicks attached. If you have a prescription for one of the medicines that are on their free list then it's free. It doesn't matter if you are insured or if you are not insured. This is a game changer for me because one of my prescriptions is on that list and I'm saving a great deal of money because it's free. I will agree with the other reviews so far and admit the prices of their groceries are higher compared to Kroger, Wegman's and Aldi's, but I think their hot prepared food selection is better than the aforementioned. And if you or anyone you know have high prescriptions, check out Publix to see if that medication is one that is on their free list! read more

But I was completely wrong, the store is overcrowded with aisles and items. Literally it is very hard to move up and down the aisle with people going both ways. Everything is overpriced compared to competitors. Honestly, you're better off going to Food Lion across the street, yes food lion. Man do I miss Martin's, best grocery store ever. Figured I'd take the family and go check out the new store that just opened up ... It's looks nice outside and inside ... Very clean and organized however those prices are absolutely ridiculous !! Everything is about 1 to 3 dollars above the competition. I started filling up a shopping cart and just had the overwhelming urge to leave. Then we decided to get one of the hot family chicken meals for lunch only to find out that ONLY the chicken is served hot , the sides are picked up from a cold case and have to be cooked .. Really??? Nice looking place and friendly staff yes but who wants to pay 4.79 for two slices of cheesecake ? I'm good shopping the cheaper places, thanks. Martin's was much better to shop at than this place ever will be. I'd give the place one star but I'm adding a second one for cleanliness and friendly staffing even though they were a bit annoying asking me if i needed help every 2 minutes. I have come to be very disappointed in this location. I did my best to give this location a fair chance and even did my standard grocery shopping there a few times. My last visit sent me to a place that I do not like to go. I was heading home from work, when I got hungry and decided to stop in for a chicken meal. I went towards the prepared food section, and got in line (which was nice, because usually the patrons are just scattered and it's hard to tell who's in line or not. Directly in front of me was a customer who asked a question. He had a second one and the employee just walked away. I engaged them a little, only because I had already had previous bad experience in this same store and area. What I really didn't expect was what came next. I had another employee completely bypass me and addressed the customer behind me with their question. Understandably, I was more than a little upset at this. I completely lost it. At first, I cried foul and proceeded to leave the store again, NEVER to return, and then, I though "no, the customer service team needs to know that this issue was still going on. I went over to the desk and advised that I was yet again completely ignored for the customer BEHIND ME at the counter. Fortunately, the rep I talked to had helped me with a previous issue, and remembered me. The hot food clerk came over and exclaimed that she was sorry and that she "didn't see me." This was total crap as she was less than an arm's length from me and directly behind me when she helped the other customer. I ultimately was helped, free of charge (not my goal. I do not go into stores to complain just to get free food), but this still is really upsetting f to me. This is the THIRD such experience with their prepared foods section that I have had since they have been open (previous issue mentioned+ and issue with a preordered sandwich that wasn't ready when I Ent to pick it up) and they have been open only a little more than a month at this point. Wanted to visit a few times before reviewing, and now I have been no fewer than 5 times, so I feel I have fully experienced Publix. My daughter and I fell in love with Publix in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and were so excited when they were opening one right in our neighborhood. However, our visits have proven frustrating and disappointing. We have gone around dinner time at least twice, only to be told they didn't have any fried chicken or potato wedges, with no apology or offer to make any. The manager actually gave us the excuse that they were having a hard time keeping up due to a great special they had advertised. Uh, that is the worst response I have ever heard, and calls to mind a grocery store version of bait and switch. Went the very next day, and they didn't have any of their whole grain bread. I asked for it, and was told it was over proofed, so they threw it out. Looked at their brand of sliced bread, but the "best by" date was in 2 days. I was hungry, but not enough to eat a loaf of bread that quickly. I want to say this is normal for a new store, but they have been open a month now, so I have to assume this will be business as usual. On an up note, I like their chicken noodle soup, items on their cold salad bar and their made-to-order subs, but it will not be my grocery store of choice until they can do better. read more

No grocery store of any kind who would like to remain in business stuffs old meat under or inside fresh meat to get rid of it. Display case meat gets 1 day on display then wrapped and put out in the package case usually for 1 or 2 days. It then gets reduced and sold or given to the kitchen for meat loaf for their hot bar. Let me be clear, grocery stores do not mix old meat with new to sell it to you Steve. Wanted to write about the whole Publix experience, and unfortunately, it's not good. We travel quite frequently to Boca Raton and we always look forward to stopping at Publix on the way, so we were all excited when we found out it was coming to Richmond. That has not been the case so far. First, I'll talk about the quality of the prepared foods. My wife has purchased a couple of hot subs and has also gotten food from the salad bar and she has happy. I, on the other hand, have tried to get chicken at the prepared food section but there hasn't been anything that I want, except for once. The time that there was, the chicken breast was very good, but the macaroni and cheese was barely warm, and the fried okra was so cold you would think it came out of the fridge. As far as the people, the majority have been very nice, but on one particular occasion the woman at the prepared foods counter completely ignored me and came out and started talking to someone else that was in line. I then saw the manager (I believe her name is Chellie) standing there so I told her what happened and asked for help. She was pleasant, but there was no chicken this time. She said it was on special and it was so busy. Being a Customer Service Manager myself, I explained that I really didn't want to hear excuses, and the fact that it was on sale made it all that much more important to be available. It's really funny though, because the next day I came in to try and get chicken again, and the manager was by the counter and clearly saw me yet said nothing. I would have liked her just to say "Thanks for coming in and giving us another shot" but she did not. Oh well, so much for service. Lastly, my daughter applied to work at the one in Short Pump and went through 2 interviews and was told that someone would call if she was hired. She has not heard yet, and it's been a week and a half, so I assume she didn't get the job. That's fine, but in this day a simple email, text, or call to thank her for coming in, and to let her know that she didn't get hired would have been a kind, and expected gesture. Overall, I'm really disappointed in the quality of the food so far, and the care and concern that is exhibited by the staff. I'm quite sure that if this lack of quality and concern continues, that Publix will not do well in the Richmond market. read more
