I really like Trader Joe's, and typically shop here twice a week. However, I have been concerned since the pandemic began that the last two checkout stands are very close together, prohibiting social distancing. My discomfort increased dramatically when I was in there at the last checkout in the line the night of 7/24. It appeared that the person at the raised desk called an impromptu staff meeting. I was swarmed by staff members, some only wearing bandannas, who were actually brushing against me and crowding around. I said loudly "it's too tight here and there's no distancing," but was ignored. As an older, vulnerable person, I don't feel like getting sick or worse because the management of this store has no sense. read more

I have visited this TJ's several times and it shares the same parking lot as Smart and Final. As far as TJ"s go, this one is pretty decent but the space between the aisles and the checkout stands are minimal and can get frustrating especially since this location is as close to Sun City as it is. Since this is AZ, there is no such thing as two buck chuck...it is three buck chuck and yes, Grandma knows that this is the one thing I can get cheaper in California! Trader Joe's is now begining to stock more and more organic products including: Chicken Tomatoes and other fresh veggies Frozen Veggies Dairy: cheeses and such Coffee Oils Dried Spices (only oregano so far but it is the good stuff and it is cheap) Fresh Herbs Agave ORGANIC STEVIA (to be found nowhere else that I have seen so far) Environmentally Friendly/NON TOXIC Detergents ...and the other things I mentioned in my previous review. Used to be more of a novelty than it is. Get your funky fresh breads and cereals, cheap wine, fancy beer, imported cheese, gluten free, organic produce, etc, etc, etc. But what they have is what you get, and that's it. Selection is limited, but what they have is usually pretty good price and awesome quality. There is always a line, but if it get's too long, they are responsive and send help. Being in the outskirts of Arrowhead mall's campus, traffic in the lot always sucks. Depending on the time of day and day of week you go, it's either little old lady traffic jam, or milf central in this location of Trader Joe's. read more

Fantastic food, so real and such a nice selection unlike even the largest of stores. The prices are good, and I come here knowing even I, with food restrictions, can get and deserve a chance at delicious food. I love the gluten and wheat-free bread as well as their corn crust pizzas. Definitely one of my favorite grocery stores. Tons of vegetarian & vegan options. Lots of whole food based items. Lots of items focused on using healthy ingredients. They make lots of their own brand products, many of which are VERY good and delicious. We love their hummus. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that I can't always find every single item that I need there, as Trader Joe's is a smaller grocery store than most. This applies to their produce section as well, as I can't find a certain vegetable or other item I'm looking for there occasionally. TJ's is my favorite place to buy food-groceries, snacks, essentials-they have it all. Their food is non-GMO and made with quality, healthy ingredients. Their prices are always low and we have switched from Fry's or Walmart for groceries to mostly TJ's and the prices are consistently better without gimmick sales and ad match games. I prefer the Surprise location because it's closer to home and it's much larger. Plus the people are much friendlier. This location has some weird ladies running checkouts that talk your ear off or talk to each other the whole time they're ringing you up. It's unprofessional and annoying. I go to Trader Joe's for their frozen food and iced tea. The Pomegranate Green Iced Tea My favorite iced tea of all time. It does run me a dollar fifty per 34oz bottle, but this is much better than my efforts at recreating it. Although I do my other grocery shopping at Fry's primarily due to proximity to my home, I do find that the quality of the freezer food for a bachelor like myself is quite good. Variety is a plus as well. I should also mention that there is not a grocery store who cares more about their checkout lines not being an issue than Trader Joe's. Someone is always on top of it and employees are constantly being pulled back to the checkout in short order when needed. I don't give a whole lot of 5/5's but I can't say I've had a poor experience at Trader Joe's....ever. read more

I'm always looking for great natural and organic grocery stores. Trader Joe's is definitely one of my favorites. This branch was well organized and well stocked. Staff was friendly and sometimes they have free samples of selected products. I noticed that they are also somewhat cheaper than other comparable stores, such as Sprouts or F&E. We definitely came back home with a some new products that I cannot wait to try. Also, if you are a fan of natural frozen or ready meal, take a look at their frozen section. Another 5 star review for trader Joe's. This store manages to continually reinvent itself while keeping all the best. Seasonal specials mixed with old favorites means there's always something new to try or rediscover. I forgive them for being on Bell Rd & God's Waiting Way because they have made up for it with world class employees and a great parking lot. I'm always up for any of the pizzas and most snacks. The wine and beer selection is 'non-brand-name eclectic. The candy is better than the salty snacks. The fresh bread better than the breakfast bars. The flowers better than the produce (and priced by a man who loves women). You can shop here and still have time to do other stuff because it's not big-- just full. I put a 5 star because everything is awesome from the food, employees, price and the atmosphere. I'd put a 10 up there if I could! I've been shopping here for over 10 years now and I will choose it over most grocery stores. They have all the essentials you need and more. The best part is their name brand foods all non GMO. There are a lot of organic choices and they change things up a lot of times which is fun to see what is new at the stores! This is our odds and ends shop. At Joe's we tend to buy: Olive oil. Several different brands. I've heard that Trader Joe's brand products are simply other companies with their label. But after our old go-to olive oil raised their price 1 too many times we decided to buy one of each of their brand and taste. The Spanish oil seems to have enough flavor for me (I tend to like stronger oils. My favorite is picual when I'm heading to a specialty store) but keep a decent price. $3 Chuck. I've heard that this isn't the same stuff that used to win awards. But the shiraz is pretty good and most of the varieties seem work great for cooking. The wife tends to like sweeter wines and I tend to favor either a beer or a gin and seltzer (gave up pop a while back so no tonic for me). So we don't buy Chuck for drinking usually. Pasta. The pasta selection here is pretty good. They have a variety of shapes depending on what you need and many cost $1/lb. Those are our Joe staples. Other things that we get include chocolate (damn you impulse shopping!), basil, occasionally cream, and occasionally cheeses (nice cheese selection!). The store is clean and organized. The staff is friendly and the lines usually move pretty well. There is usually some sample for food (or wine on weekends). And our cats love when we bring home paper bags. The only bad experience we ever had was when we walked up to someone that was doing a wine tasting. At the time I believe both me and my wife were 29. The lady in charge gave us a dirty look and stared at us for a few seconds. Eventually, she asked if we wanted to taste (this was after we said hello and waited for her to convince us). She carded us (Yay! I didn't look 30!). But the look she gave us made it seem like she "knew" we were underage. She was friendly to the person that came behind us so we must have given her a bad vibe or something. But it was the only bad experience I've had at this location since moving to the valley. read more

It's this tantalizing spread that has calorie for calorie the same amount as peanut butter but it tastes so much better. Even the same sugar content. They have these awesome German cherries that I haven't had since I was a kid in Germany and I love them. The cheese selection you can stand there for an hour and still not pick a cheese. The breads are out of this world I'm German you get used to good bread we don't have it here. Trader Joe's has it all. I try to avoid it because I would buy cookie butter everyday thankfully it's a little bit from my house. The prices are outstanding you get such good quality for such a low price you can't believe. I like going here to get my Peanut Butter & Jelly to make my luch for the week. Caution: If you go to Trader Joes because you think all their food is good for you make sure to check the label. I was dumb and didnt look on a jar of Trader Joes brand Jelly and it has the HFC's in it. This is my favorite TJ's in the area! I love the layout of the store, the employees and most importantly- the goods!! They have the best prepackaged salads and wraps if you need a quick lunch and really good lasagna and other pasta' when you just don't feel like cooking. They also carry my absolute favorite pretzel- the pumpernickel variety! Love those! Besides the food, they have an amazing selection of wine and specialty beers. This is where I come to refill my wine cabinet or prep for party at my house. You can't go wrong, especially with the knowledgable and friendly employees who are always on hand if you have a question. Keep on being amazing TJ's, I'm a fan!! read more

Oh my, this is a crazy ,fun foodie shop. I have yet to find it with a few shoppers inside. I head there for the bakery be it kringles,pies or cookies. They sell some nice plants and cute planters,there is a nice selection of wine and other cocktail mixtures. If your ever in a bind for a bring along gift you will find it here. read more

I usually have a pleasant experience at this location. The store is always clean, staff is friendly, and the products I need are easy to find. I went to the store for the first time since COVID and I understand the restrictions. I even saw the sign to please wear a mask, so I drove back home with my kids to grab everyone a mask before returning to shop. At check out, apparently there is supposed to be someone instructing customers of new protocols. There wasn't an employee when it was my family's turn to check out. I respect the protocols. My husband and I are essential workers. The cashier was very friendly and tried to laugh off the rude employee we encountered. The red head, heavy set woman who apparently was controlling the line, was not friendly to my family. She wasn't there when it was our turn to check out. I missed the sign to not pass until groceries bagged, and she barked at us to move back. Yes, barked! She was barking at us pointing at where we should stand, but not explaining the new protocol. I was appalled! I have my toddler and older son with me as well as my husband. She was rude and kept telling us to "Move back! Move back!" With rude hand gestures pointing where to stand; she treated me as if I'm a child. We had no idea what was going on! I thought she was confused that I was a separate customer from my husband and we weren't practicing social distancing. I explained this is my husband. And again she told me move back! The cashier had to explain there's a sign to not pass until groceries bagged after he saw how frustrated we were. I told him that's fine, but the way she said it was rude. There's an appropriate way of saying things, and she was very rude to me as a customer and my family. Please remove this prejudice, judgmental red headed woman from controlling the line. I shouldn't have to explain to my children that maybe she judged us on our clothing for wearing leggings and sandals or maybe she doesn't know how to properly explain things to people of color. She was very kind and explained the protocol to the white woman next in line as she went up to that woman and explained the new check out policy. Imagine that! Love this food, flower, wine, beer grocery store. And the few times that I have returned an item not one location gave me any grief even without having my receipt. I've shopped Trader Joe's in Arizona, California, New Jersey, New York and Florida. I love this store so much that I'm willing to drive up to an hour to shop there. ALL the locations that I've patronize are clean, the people are always pleasant and take the time to converse in a genuine way. Oh and they serve free coffee every day all day e dry location in each State I've been to. all of them do along with some type of food sampling. I hear some of the complaints of the other posters here, but hey, I have to drive 3 hours to get to the closest Trader Joe's so I am a bit more forgiving. I love the variety of foods they have, and love to stock up when we can at any location. No, I couldn't see myself only shopping at Trader's for all of my grocery needs, but it is a nice treat. They have good snacks, frozen foods, produce, breads, Black Toad (how did I survive with other beers before finding Black Toad?) and their vitamins seem to be a pretty good bargain too. read more
