This TJ slapped the Ugly off the poor teeny tiny can't fit between the isles of the other TJ on West Alabama. Like s swift round house, Chuck Norris style beat down IF it was a competition of Trader Joes. This puppy is large and in charge, with LOTS of space in between isles, to race around supermarket sweep style. No bumping into angry patrons trying to get their gluten free brownies. No sir. Decided to check this place out on my lunch, as it's close to the office, and found it to be quite busy. No kale in stock (sad face) but lots of other goodies. I grabbed some cookie butter for my boss (he was immediately in love) and got some salads for work, and trail mix for snacks. They have TONS of stuff for health nuts, and people who LUURRRVE their food. Salmon, cheeses galore, meats, and fresh veggies, and healthy nuts, grains and oats. Inexpensive flowers and basil pots, and lots and lots of cheap wine. Will definitely come back when I have more time! Oh, and I had PLENTY of parking--Take that West Alabama! read more

I first came here last week and was amazed by the amount of organic food they have! It's affordable and not only that the customer service is beyond average! I will definitely keep coming back! Also if you see the armadillo around make sure you let them know so you can get a free prize. I think they always place it somewhere new so that's a cute little challenge for the kids if they come here! I LOVE this PLACE! Was super happy when I passed by the lot when it was being built so the people outside the loop didn't have to drive so far to the other one. My recommendation to folks is to not come hungry or high or you will be buying everything off the shelves. One of my friends was in town and he had never been to a Trader Joe's so we decided to stop by and get some snacks before hitting up the park. A misconception about Trader Joe's is that the prices are mad expensive (on Whole foods level) but it really isn't; If anything, it's cheaper or on par with your neighborhood HEB. On my trip, I picked up some parmesan/gouda cheese, honey-roasted sliced almonds, chocolate covered potato chips (me likey the sweet/salty combo), white cheddar corn puffs, BBQ popped chips, and some veggies. I went up and down the aisles looking for that damn devilish jar of crunchy cookie butter................and they were out. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh, maybe it's a good thing. NOT REALLY. I had been to the Trader Joe's on Shepherd before but this one is much bigger. As you walk in the first thing you see and smell are the flowers, which by the way are pretty and inexpensive... so of course I bought myself some flowers. I wouldn't trade 'er for another store; this Trader Joe's is #1! Built within the past five years or so, at first I was confused. You see, this isn't your typical grocery store. The low prices don't require a membership or a friend of a friend who knows a guy. They don't make you cut coupons nor the trees used for coupon making because the only thing being CUT is the middle man! This store hires humans who actually care and are happy about where they work. I'm assuming it's because they are being paid a livable wage unlike our embarrassing federal minimum. Yikes! I am serious when I tell you I would go three times a week or more when I worked right next door. I've tried thousands of items there and satisfaction has been guaranteed. This store masters the art of underutilizing available space, which gives shoppers wide aisles and plenty of room to maneuver. I noticed, however, that certain areas (prepared foods, e.g.) were very congested. Admittedly, I'm not the primary grocery shopper in the family, but I found the store somewhat lacking in the basics or staples, which means it falls short of a typical full-service grocery store that carries soaps, light bulbs, toothpastes, etc.--the things that make one-stop shopping so easy. Where TJ's excels is in its selection of organic foods--far better than any store other than possibly Whole Foods. Their selection of frozen (and, to a lesser extent, refrigerated) foods for ethnic dishes (particularly Indian) is exceptional. Their prices, based on what little I bought, seemed low, but these were TJ's brand-name items I've never seen in another store under any name, so it's hard to compare. Staff seem very helpful, and don't have the weird piercings and tattoos that Whole Foods' employees seem to get before they go on their interviews. Would I go back? Yes, but only for specialty shopping. They just don't have enough of what we need every day for it to be our everyday grocer. read more

Every time I go to Trader Joe's - I get excited - because of all the new, interesting items they carry. More often than not, I end up buying mainly junk food. And, let me tell you - they've got the junk food on lock down! Chocolate bars, chocolate covered potato chips, pomegranate seeds, basically anything chocolate is cheap AND delicious. However, it's when I purchase the "fresh" produce when I'm underwhelmed. For example, I bought a 4-pack of vine-ripened tomatoes on Sunday afternoon. They looked so beautiful when I picked them out on Sunday. Fast-forward to Tuesday morning and I notice one tomato is already going bad. I also purchased a tomato/mozz salad on Sunday. I got around to eating it for dinner on Monday night and several pieces of arugula were brown/slimy. I'm sure some people are cool with just picking out the "bad" pieces - but I always worry the rest of the lettuce is tainted as well. So, when it comes to junk food/comfort food - this is the place for yumminess and value. For produce, I'll stick to the pricier-Central Market. read more

I visit the grocery store more than my relatives but their produce just always looks so sad.. like a puppy in an animal shelter. Ok every trader joe's is about the same. I literally write the same review for each location I go to. Bring your own bags! It makes it so much easier to bring your own reusable bags. They will love you and you will be entered into the monthly drawing for a $25 gift card. The food is awesome here. Tackle the frozen section and buy everything. The produce and meats are crazy expensive so beware. The wine is decent and cheap. The sample station is epic. The staff is always friendly and able to help you. I love the cashiers. They always engage you with interesting convo. Here is the reason for the 4 not 5 stars: The people who shop there. I do not know what it is but there is this stank "I shop at Trader Joe's" vibe you get from the people at every trader joe's. To smile, have manners, be polite is like the biggest offense to these people. Its this major air of superiority that is so disheartening when you go. I try to get in and out but man the people shopping here will test your soul. So just remember to not take it personally and enjoy the staff and great items you are getting. It makes it worth it. Hello everyone,this is Mason, Houston's debonair gourmet Dachshund writing a review for Anthony, who right now is curled up on the sofa trying to recover from a cold. Normally this type of review I'd leave to him, but he's just not up to it and he brought home so many tasty goodies before he got sick, I felt it was important to encourage people to go to Trader Joe's. That, and Sparkles, the Chihuahua down the street I've been courting may see this! Anthony brought home several meals, some IQF fish, and some snack items. Everything he's made has been tasty. The Chicken Pot Pie reminds me of the Marie Callender's of 10 years ago instead of the 2 peas, 1 carrot slice, 1 chicken cube and sauce filled glop of today. I lick all bowls, I am expert on this. He had a really good chicken picatta which I licked the plate off and enjoyed for .4 nanosecoinds of savoring a piece of chicken. Fresh organic salsa, yum! However, the baked blue corn tortilla chips tasted like his left toe which I have licked on occasion. He did mention they have a bunch of other stuff he'll try in the future, nice selection of nuts, bread, and some organic nitrate free meat items. Anthony did mention the wide, clear aisle, friendly staff and the $3 Chardonnay which he said could get $8 at any other store. He said the prices are pretty decent, much better than Whole Foods but Costco was cheaper on the IQF seafood with the understanding that at TJ's you can get one fillet but at Costco you have to get 2 1/2-3lbs. But he said I can't have alcohol. I don't know why, except lacking opposable thumbs I can't hold a wine glass. But I drink out of puddles and toilets, it's not like I'm demanding or anything. BTW the Cookie spread at TJ is a copy of Biscotti and a fraction of the price, just as good. I always get a lick, so good! Well it's getting a bit late and there's a rerun of Frasier on. Kelsey Grammer is a good actor, but Eddie far surpasses anyone on the show. He's my hero. read more

This location runs circles around the one in the loop. Like, crop circles. huge Saturn rings. Earth's orbit sized circles. It's HUGE and there is AMPLE parking. The employees are really friendly and it is spotless. The produce section is also beautiful...which is quite the change from just about every other TJ I have been to. Like, I actually bought vegetables and fruit here...and none of it was sorry looking. Maybe because the store is new, but I was truly impressed. For anyone who isn't familiar with TJ, it is not going to be as large as your average grocery store...they stock about 80% of their own label of items (which are made by big-name companies, but you won't be told that because there is a privacy agreement.) Their premade stiryfry mixes (both fresh and frozen), salad dressings, frozen meats and cheeses are my go-to items. Their frozen prepared meals look awesome, but most aren't gluten free, so I can't partake. Their greek yogurt is cheaper than most grocery stores (I only buy Fage, which can be found on sale sometimes for $1/each, but TJ's is consistently 99 cents) Their cheeses are way reasonable (8 oz of fresh mozzarella for $4? yes please.) and their bulk section of nuts, trail mixes and snacks is also very affordable (though I never buy anything from here...because my eyes tend to view these things as serving size = 1 PACKAGE.). I also love all their juices and italian sodas. My boyfriend has quite a juice habit, and I've started developing a taste for it myself...however, liquid calories tend to take residence on my butt so I usually mix a splash with some TJ club soda for a lower cal spritzer. They sell some weirdo stuff too...and there is a huuuuuuuuge selection of asian foods in the freezer section. They definitely pay attention to food trends when testing and developing products. This location is also like, 5 minutes from my apartment. So, YAY. Definitely adding to my weekly grocery shop stops! Best grocery store in Houston. The employees are friendly, the store is clean and organized, and the food is good and reasonably priced. Some of my favorite things: Harvest Salad, Cowboy Bark, Spinach and Kale Pie, Mint Cremes and Spicy Hummus. One of the employees tokd me you can try almost anything in the store - like if you've never had the Chocolate Covered Blueberries they will break open a container and hand them out as samples. And every tine you go in they have a food and drink sample stattion in the back corner. Awesome grocery store. read more

Always a pleasant experience shopping at this location. I've been here at all times of day and have never once waited in a line like I do when I go to the one on Shepherd. It seems less picked over and they always have my favorite items in stock. I'm an avid HEB fan through and through but there are some items I hold out for in particular. They've got such cheap organic fresh and frozen produce and I'm always trying their latest interesting sauces and dips and have never once been disappointed. The latest being the Zhou sauce which I've throughly enjoyed on top of salads and chicken. Not to mention their vegan cashew pesto - so dang good. read more

This is a pretty typical Trader Joe's, one with the smaller floor plan. Prices are much better than Whole Foods, and the staff is way above average. People who work at this TJ's really seem to enjoy what they're doing, and are always happy to help. I liked being rewarded for using my own bag with an entry to win a $25 gift card. Always has some fun great tasting snack of sorts from chocolate covered this or that to a universe of different crackers. Cookies of this...cheese blends of amazing-ness. Those used to HEB or Randall's will be a little overwhelmed. Perfect for: - Picking up a few items for hosting a gathering at your place. Lots of awesome snacks and $3 buck chuck (those of you who know...know what I'm talking about!) - Singles who live alone and want to pick up a last minute situation for dinner for one. Them hot sandwiches...I tell ya. - Odd artisan or crafted ingredients, etc. that is not so common at the larger local grocery chains. - $3 BUCK CHUCK...when I was a kid it was $2 BUCK CHUCK...darn inflation! I REALLY like TJ's overall, but the employees at this location are hit or miss with friendliness. Having become a regular at the Shepherd location and having developed a good rapport with many of the employees there, I guess I've gotten a bit spoiled. Some of the employees here are INCREDIBLY nice and helpful (I will definitely get names and update this later), and some just ignore the customers completely. I don't get it. As other reviewers have mentioned, the parking is a pain. There's construction going on across the street, and from 4:30-6:30, traffic on Voss is a general NIGHTMARE. Since I get off work at 5:00 on the days I work in that neighborhood, I don't mind spending an hour in the store, buying my goods for the week. As far as produce, the organic selection is good, and I'm hooked on the Power to the Greens mix. I also like their extra lean ground turkey and organic chicken--I cook with both ALL the time. I'm absolutely hooked on their tangerine juice (this is so hard to find!), and my only complaint about their juice selection overall is that they don't have blood orange juice when it's in season. Like the other Houston location, they always have something yummy to try at the demo table, which is great way for me to try new things, because I admit I'm a picky eater. Overall, I want to give this store a better rating, and I'm happy to update and upgrade if more of the employees improve their general dispositions. read more

I was surprised to find that the market was absolutely nothing like I expected nor have previously experienced. I knew it wasn't a supermarket such as Wal-Mart or Target, but I had always imagined it being similar to Tom Thumb, HEB, Kroger etc., which are still rather large markets, with the differentiating factors of being upscale and having quality delis, bakeries, and such. Outside of these types of markets, I'm used to seeing stores such as Whole Foods or Sprouts, that differentiate themselves by having a huge array of vegetables, fruits, grains, and items that cater towards specific diets. Trader Joe's is similar to the afore-mentioned markets in that it is upscale and high quality. But that's about where the similarities end. Trader Joe's is a very small market - almost as small as Aldi's. There is no bakery or deli and the produce available, while typically organic or high quality, is pretty limited. Instead of having these items or general basic staples, Trader Joe's has a large number of beer and wine (including its own brands) and in particular a lot of frozen, prepared foods, a large percentage of which are their own brand. There are still a few aisles with the likes of spices, oils, etc. and have many items I have not seen elsewhere. So, note that this is not the place for general grocery shopping. Instead, I can see myself coming back here for two main purposes: 1. Snack food and/or a prepared meal: This is what I purchased when I checked in here earlier. They have a lot of very interesting, diverse/exotic, and high quality frozen and prepared meals that can be a great option for saving a few bucks vs. ordering in or eating out. Plus, I am tired of the snacks and frozen meals available at most supermarkets, so I really am happy to find an alternative. 2. Interesting and unique items to add to a gift basket or stocking stuffers. Since my in-laws tend to exchange large gift baskets of an accumulation items bought at various stores, particular gourmet food items, this is an excellent resource for me. They have items I have never seen elsewhere (e.g. green tea infused mints - these were really good) or may be difficult to find in other places (e.g. aloe vera juice). In many cases (such as the mints) these items are very nicely packaged which would further complement their use in a gift basket. I am sure as November/December rolls around, they will amp up the number and diversity of these types of items in their stock. Indeed, I'm really looking forward to coming back here particularly during December to see how they might cater to Christmas shopping. read more

I love this Trader Joe's because is so close to me #1 and #2 it is a bit roomier than the one on Shepherd. Also the parking will be plenty after the rush of the Grand opening crowd. I prefer this Trader Joe's over the one on Alabama. This location is so easy to access from Voss and you're sure to find quick parking. Once inside, it's spacious without being overwhelming. As much as I love HEB, the stores are just becoming too massive. For everyday shopping, I enjoy a smaller store such as TJ's that I won't get lost in and can get through quickly. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes in the checkout line here, whereas at the Alabama location, I've waited 20 or more. I've become addicted to the Charles Shaw wines, and for $2.99 a bottle, I can afford my addiction -- the white zinfandel and the shiraz are my favorites. I really like some of the Trader Joe's brand cereals, chips and frozen products. There are some individual serving pizzas or dinners that you can snag on promotion for $1.99 and make a great microwave lunch at work. There is also a nice seasonal selection of small flowers and herbs for decent prices and they are packaged prettily if you need a quick dinner party gift. And the graphic designer/marketer inside of me squeals in delight at their clever branding. If TJ's is selling a product for the Hispanic demographic, it's under the label "Trader Jose's"! The baking products are from Trader Joe's French compadre "Baker Josef." This drives home the store's idea and commitment to delivering worldly, non-artificial, fair trade products. read more

This location is just as wonderful as the others. There is ample parking, which is better then the Shepherd location. Great place to buy unique grocery items for a great price. From frozen meals for 1, artisian cheeses, all the way to milk and eggs, Trader Joe's make grocery shopping fun again. I am in love! Trader Joe's is a northern and Cali phenomenon which for some reason, Texas has been deprived of for too long. Well no more! No longer will Houston be deprived of the organic goodness at prices that will make you look twice (in case its too good to be true). No longer will you scold yourself for being so health conscious when you look at your receipt with a hung head. Why yes, I do enjoy your gluten free brownies and your AMAZING coffee. Why no, I don't think I could live without your crispy flax-seed snacks. Of course I enjoy your wholesome dog food (well...not me exactly...). And do not get me started with your dreamy soy ice cream. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the spacious, well-lit place where you don't have to maneuver through oncoming cart traffic. And it's so nice to see TJ's on the majority of packages rather than the huge corporate brands everywhere else. Nice to know there is some competition out there and that we smaller chains can thrive too! I can see why TJs has been open since the 1950s. Their customer service is impeccable, with the cashier literally jumping to throw away our empty coffee sample cups with a smile and an ushering towards the till. Go on with your good self, Traders. Students rejoice! No more skimping on the organic. Get ready to adjust your budget in the best direction possible. My only concern is competition: Central Market. If I am with my parents or want to splurge, you can't beat the variety. But I do think Traders caters to a slightly different crowd and is a bit of first mover so I am sure it will stick around! I usually go to the one in shepherd drive but decided to check out a different location. Parking here has so much space and if you have a truck don't worry about tight spaces. Tons of options to choose from fresh fruit and veggies always stocked. Workers are very nice and friendly which is a plus. The place is kept clean and organized. Many food options for vegans and vegetarians to choose. The only down side is shoppers don't like to place the carts in shopping cart corral. read more

Ive been a regular that this location since it first opened. Every time I come here I feel l find something new. This past time I found hummus veggie wrap & falafel wrap. Maybe Ive been missing it but a first for me. Both delicious, the quality of trader joe brand is outstanding. The produce is fresh, a big variety of beers and wine. I love all the Vegan options they have from cookies to ice cream and even muffins. I usually get my extra firm organic tofu from place. They have just about anything; spices, teas, chips, juices. This place is a little bit of a drive but in actuality I do not mind when it comes the food. Will be a customer for life. Recommend to anyone. read more

The first time I visited, I thought "what's the big deal" like, why is everyone always raving about TJ?! Well, now I'm a convert, stop by twice a month and always overspend. It just so happens that they carry many unique and fabulous items. Once you've tried some of them, you're hooked - and nobody else sells it at all - or at that price! So now I have a TJ list of maybe a dozen items that I can't get elsewhere and stroll the aisles grooving to their great music and enjoying the samples. Except for the sometimes 'way too chatty' check-out clerks (when I'm in a hurry) - and the car scraping parking lot access - this place is 5-star! read more

I've been waiting to review Trader Joe's for about 6 months, and now I can finally give a review of my shopping experience. 1. Value is pretty good for the quality that you get. Most of the brands there are Trader Joe's, and I place the quality on par with most major brands. Try their beer and wine selection, it's cheap and actually pretty good. 2. Variety is where TJ falls so short! The organic section is worse than Kroger's, and the overall variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish is laughable. I go to Whole Foods or even Central Market for those. 3. Customer Experience is excellent. They are as helpful as the Whole Foods people, but less hippy skippy I guess. Kroger, HEB, and Central Market need their employees to learn from both TJ and WF, well done. Overall, Trader Joe's is not a one stop shop. You'll have to go to two places to get all of your needs - even if you're a single person. I SO want to give it more stars, but giving TJ 4 stars was generous of me. read more

It was my first time going to Trader's Joe. It was nice. They have a pretty big selection of choices. The staff was friendly and fast. And there was lots of parking at lunchtime in the middle of the week. I didn't really explore so I will have to return. They do have a lot of snacks so probably a fun place to come to stock up for a picnic. But I must admit if you live near an HEB then you may not need to venture to Trader's Joe. read more

Trader Joe's saved my life during those early college days of living paycheck to paycheck so I've made it a point to shop at their many locations as often as possible. I always managed to come out with more and higher quality items than at the big Supermarkets like Ralphs, Vons, & Albertsons back home (here would be Kroger or HEB). I am obsessed with everything about Trader Joe's. Their selection of organic hippie dippie foods is vast and plentiful and they have those items that you just can't find better anywhere else. For example, their Tropical Carrot Juice, their sage and garlic butter, and their COOKIE BUTTER!! I came to this new location yesterday and the shelves were stocked full of cookie butter!! I appreciate that Trader Joe's seems to hire only the friendliest of employees because it makes me not dread going to the store. This location is smaller than most I've seen and they don't have as big of a wine selection as some of the others.The parking lot is also pretty small for a TJ's but overall this place is one more awesome store that I love to visit and will probably visit at least twice a week. read more

Powerberries - acai/blue/whatever-berry juices covered in chocolate. The perfect Kettle corn. Their use of quality ingredients throughout all their products. Including gluten-free, vegan, and non genetically modified food options. Lamb Vindaloo (so spicy), chicken tikka masala (they keep running out!), and palak paneers! I'm eating this as I speak/type... great for packing a work lunch. Two buck chuck ! (They were two bucks back when I fell in love with them in california; now they're $2.99 wines) And award-winning, might I add. And of course, they are overstocked with friendly service and happy smiles all around. A little too much enthusiasm sometimes, but that's a good thing. First time at this location. When entering i was surprised at someone welcoming me to trader Joes. I guess I'm surprised because I never get that at any grocery stores. Food selections are great. I mainly go after these -naan breads at 4 dollars a pack of 6? - yogurts dips @ 3 dollars? -sparkling soda 3 dollars try red orange -molten lava cake 4 dollars? Can't find them in regular grocery stores now -chicken red coconut curry 5 dollars, must get, so good -lamb vindaloo w/rice 5 dollars, shocked at how soft the meat was -lobster ravioli 4 dollars, good for 1 person or 1.5 lol they have beautiful flowers, a pretty good selection of wines and cheese. There are some fresh vegetables and fruits but I never come here to buy those. ok, I went everywhere to look for this dip (salmon dill) but for some reason, this location did not have any. I was so disappointed because that was what made me go all the way here to get. Through all the traffic and non-sense drivers I would hope trader joes had things in stock. I guess I sound too upset over an item to be that disappointed but thats just me. I wished there was a trader joes closer to where I was, there should definitely be a new location in missouri city or something. It would prevent me from tripping all the way into the city. I love this location of Trader Joe's, more so than the one on Shepherd. Same selection, just a different layout, and I prefer it. I suppose they ultimately are only differentiated by their staff and the floor plan, but I've got to say this Trader Joe's on Voss is my favorite. Easy to get into, easy to get out of, completely and 100% clean, and always a friendly staff. I like the Trader Joe's selection and prices, and I always make it a point to try something new, I often ask for recommendations or opinions on a product from the staff, and rarely am I disappointed. I'm never disappointed by the quality, something may just not be to my taste. read more

It's a bummer that Trader Joes is located far from my home and thought I'd try out this location. I'm a big fan since I lived in California. The staff is nice and accommodating. The facilities are clean and I found great parking spot in the front of the store. Great variety of products as usual, just wish there were more Trader Joe's in TX and closer to me! lol read more

Love this place! Came for the first time and can't wait to go back! Fresh, healthy food and good prices. The snack foods are my favorite!

They carry Fage Greek Yogurt which I couldn't say at the time I was still living in San Francisco. 5 stars right there. I was able to find the usual Nature Path Granola (goes really great with the greek yogurt) and Cereal here too. It's a little bit of a drive from where I live, but it's worth it to me. read more
