I love Trader Joe's and was so excited when I found one was opening here in Houston. Of course, I went to the grand opening which was insane. I don't think I've ever seen that many people packed into a TJ's before. It was quite and experience and a lot of fun. This TJ's isn't as big as others that I've been to, but it gets the job done. I like the layout and I really like how they incorporated the store into the old Alabama Theater. The service is always great with friendly staff. The only downside is getting in and out of the parking lot during peak hours - it can be a bit tight. Other than that, it's great, as most TJ's are. read more

This location is just like the one I used to have in STL, nice and roomy, you can actually fit 2 carts and have a walkway in the aisle for people to pass thru. The fruit and veggie section is so much better. If only it were closer, but I might make the haul more often because the the wine selection is WAY better than the Shepherd store!! I understand why people love Trader Joe's because it's a cheaper alternative to places like Whole Foods. Many items are priced comparably to places like Kroger and HEB too! However, they have a limited selections of options. For example, they don't have an in house butcher and I'm not really sure about their fish options. Trader Joe's isn't a place to fulfill all your shopping needs, but can still fulfill many of them. It also depends on your budget and what your diet consists of. I like coming to Trader Joe's for my salad needs because the spinach, romaine lettuce, and other greeny leaves are reasonably priced, organic, and acceptable quality. However be aware that not everything at Trader Joe's is organic! Let's hope this Trader Joe's survives when the Whole Foods moves DIRECTLY across from it. read more

Love love love Trader Joe's. This place always has something new for me to try, and there's such a great assortment of fresh produce, frozen foods and just random stuff that I don't need but end up in my cart anyways. Their frozen foods are top notch, everything is of quality and just delicious. I highly recommend their pizzas and their microwavable mac & cheese. I also love coming to trader joe's and scooping up flowers, for cheap! They always have beautiful orchids and I've gotten fresh peonies here more times than I can count. There's a wide assortment of natural beauty products as well as things for the home. There's even organic treats for the dogs here, that my two little pups love! You can easily get lost in the aisles of wonderfulness. They offer a slew of alcohol from craft beers to wine and their all priced low. I've also bought more coconut oil from there than I'd care to admit but it's definitely not marked up here like it is at heb or even online. read more

I am so glad we have Trader Joe's in Houston! I love how their products are reasonably priced, and not sold in huge quantities. For example, my shopping trips usually average $25 here (eggs, produce, frozen items, drinks)! And of course, the quality is amazing for what you are paying for. I recently bought their bottle of Cold Brew Coffee and it tastes so good! My husband and I love their produce and always buy bananas (5 for just under $1). I also am a sucker for their mini Belgian Chocolate bars, which are a great after-meal munchie. I also love the pizza selection in the freezer aisle. I think all the pizzas are less than $10, and it's great for a meal for yourself or a small meal shared between 2 people. Sometimes I even treat our home to a fresh batch of flowers, that are also very affordable and beautiful at Trader Joe's. Love this place. Will continue to shop here in the future! read more

It's a bummer that Trader Joes is located far from my home and thought I'd try out this location. I'm a big fan since I lived in California. The staff is nice and accommodating. COOKIE BUTTER. Yes, spreadable cookies. SPREADABLE COOKIES! And now they have cookie butter ice cream! Trader Joe's is a healthy food store as in you can find your gluten free, low carb, low salt kind of stuff, but their junk food is awesome as well. They have peanut butter filled cupcakes and chocolate covered everything, even potato chips! Their pretzel bread is so soft and so good with some melted cheese or butter. And, to top it all off, they are not that expensive. Last time I went I got a giant bag of popcorn for about $2. Try finding that at Whole Wallets, I mean Whole Foods. Checkout is super fast! Being from LA, I was so excited to see this Trader Joe's open up! I've always loved Trader Joe's. They have the best value for the quality that they present. They also have a policy of satisfaction guaranteed or money back. There have been a few things I was really not happy with but never bothered getting $ back. But nice to know there are options. This is a smaller location so a smaller selections but still enough to get basic items if you don't have a list of items you have to get. Staff is always very friendly and happy to help. "Whole", "natural", and "organic" foods are the buzz words. This Trader Joe's is actually nice and has quite the variety given it's limited space, and when comparing to other larger grocers sometimes have better quality. Many of the items that they do sell often have the label "natural" or "organic" and are affordably priced. Does the produce and perishable goods that I buy from Trader Joe's taste better than say HEB's, Krogers', or Randalls'? Maybe, maybe not but what I do know is that I enjoy it, and I am often going back to buy it, again. There are some items priced much more than at other stores but, again, most of their selection in stock are fairly affordable. Overall, I go to Trader Joe's to buy the less expensive "organic/natural" foods and get my other needs elsewhere. Prices can vary, do comparisons between grocers. Side note: never come here immediately before or afternoon rush hour traffic. Voss and San Felipe/Memorial are horrible and you'll be stuck for 30 mins when it should have only taken 5 mins! read more

We always get great produce here! I also love their frozen meals and packaged meals. Today was especially nice because I was "wearing" my infant son in a carrier. The cashier offered to have someone walk me out and help my load my groceries. I told him I would be ok but he politely insisted. Unfortunately no one responded to his call quickly. So I impatiently thanked him and told him I would be okay. As I walked out, I believe I passed 2 or 3 managers. One of them saw me, immediately put down their things and offered to help load my groceries. I tried to kindly say no, but again they offered nicely and I accepted. He loaded all my groceries with ease. He told me that moms are able to great things but is always willing to help. It is a small kind moment went a long way in my book. Thanks! read more

First time visit to the new Trader Joe's on Voss, yesterday. So much better than the TJ on Shepherd with lots of space, wide aisles, friendly and helpful employees, great selection of stuff that you can't get anywhere else. Quinoa and black bean tortilla chips with fresh salsa, anyone? And items like real wild rice, almonds and Trader Giotto's Olive Oil for a whole lot less than at 'Whole Paycheck'. I also like the tricolor quinoa, veggie burgers, organic tempeh, canned soup, excellent value table wine and I am sure that I will be finding new stuff in future. When we couldn't find some item a store employee escorted us around the store to two different areas personally, and the checkout process was quick and painless. No stupid card needed for discounts, and best of all they don't try to 'force' you to check out yourself, one of my pet peeves. So sayonara Randalls and Kroger, with a Trader Joe's less than 4 miles from my house, you are fresh out of a long-time customer. read more

BE NICER I recently shopped here and had a good experience while inside the store. However, upon exiting the store, I walked into the clutter of grocery carts strewn about that greeted me when I first arrived. Not knowing precisely where to leave my cart, I rolled it near the same group of carts that I had picked it from before. As I walked away an employee barked, "Sir, you need to leave your cart over here!" He then grabbed and shoved it toward another pile where it smashed violently into the group. He then shouted at someone else and then stormed inside to go do other things as I stood there with other customers around. I felt bewildered as I walked back to my vehicle. Why did he feel the need to be so aggressive? And yell? I was only a socially-distanced six feet away from him. I'm not one to get defensive but that interaction didn't seem okay. First of all, the tone of your voice matters when speaking to a customer -- that's obvious. I just spent my hard-earned money at your store; the last thing I expect when I leave is to be yelled at as if I committed some sort of disservice. Secondly, why order someone to do something if you're just going to do it yourself? I'm trying to leave the store so this essentially accomplishes nothing. Lastly, if you want customers to leave carts in a designated area, feel free to not have 75 of them lying around in front of the store like a flock of seagulls at a beach. I understand that there are sanitation protocols that the employees are trying to implement and I fully support their efforts, but clearly there were not enough team members available to attend to the growing mess in front of the store. That's not my fault, so don't get agitated at customers if they don't identity where to return carts all while simultaneously handling grocery bags, wearing a mask in 100 degree heat, and fighting the glaring sun. Just please be nicer. Every interaction matters. This isn't the only grocery store in Houston. Trader Joe's needs its customers -- not the other way around. read more

The aisles are actually navigable as opposed to most trader joes which are flooded with people. The people who work here are so friendly. Wow. Love them. I came in to trader Joe's today with my 19 month old daugher, my daughter was in a terrible mood she was screaming and crying.I was by the wine department and I was about to leave my basket and walk out because everybody was looking at my daughter and I like we were a bother and it made me extremely uncomfortable but a lovely cashier came towards my daughter and I and gave my daughter some stickers and that made my daughter happy and it calmed her! I still do not understand what is what other people see in TJ that I do not see. With so many amazing choices in Houston where to find everything you need, at good prices, with plenty of options and top quality.... why to choose this supermarket? Very limited choices of everything (if any.!), such a small place, access is cumbersome and quality, well, not the best or at least not comparable with other options. And price wise, come on, this is not cheap either... Perhaps if you do not cook, this place is great because they have a lor of packed prepared food (Yuk!). In the world of grocery stores, this is still the better alternative. In the world of Trader Joe's, this is the saddest store I've been to. With the exception of one person, none of the staff seem as happy to be there (which affects the customer experience) and both times I've gone, they've sacked my groceries in a way that has allowed me to get home with damaged items. I've never had that happen at a Trader Joe's. I mentioned the discrepancy to the cashier as they were putting items in bags but they didn't seem concerned. We grabbed a prosecco right before closing and no one was behind the registers so we were patiently waiting for someone to come check us out. It was closing time so there were alot of employees running around but no one stopped to help after making eye contact with a few of them. Another couple comes up and they get tended to right away while we get ignored. Just because we aren't the right skin color, we get treated like second class citizens. The employees checked them out first and didn't do the right thing even though we were waiting there for a while. This is not right and is a true example of racism still happening. We have come too far as a nation to still have racism and prejudice exist. Since this store provides preferential treatment to certain customers that have the right skin tone, we won't be supporting this store anymore. read more

This wonderful staff could not do enough for me. The cashier that checked me out made sure that I got to my car okay, since I am now using a walker. I use a scooter when I am in the store. Closer to home than the one on Shepherd. I finally made a stop in, since I usually find myself stopping at the other location when I am running errands in that area. This location has better parking than the other. Other than that, you will find the Trader Joe brands you love. I mainly stick with their freezer, canned goods, cookies/candy, and other pantry fare items. I love it when they have everything in pumpkin flavors in the fall, and I tend to stock up on those. A recent favorite item has been their chocolate croissants. This isn't a one stop shopping kind of place, but you do get some interesting and tasty items if you are willing to look around. It is one of those places I go to a couple times a month to stock up on my favorite items. read more
