Trader Joe's is honestly one of the best TJ's in the city. The customer service has always been top-tier--super friendly, helpful, and just consistently pleasant to shop at. It's closed right now for renovations over the summer and I already miss it. This was my go-to spot for quick lunch breaks during the work week, especially meeting up with a friend to shop there. It was always well-stocked, easy to get in and out of, and just had a really good neighborhood vibe. Can't wait for it to reopen. read more

If you time it right, this store can be very easy to use...but if you come at peak time, be prepared to stand in line. Now, as others mention, the lines move fast but it can be hard to get to the items you need while you're shopping when you're trying to be respectful of the people standing in line to pay. That said, they usually have a good selection when I've been there and the staff is friendly and efficient. Note that based on what I've read online, this store will be closing in mid-May 2026 for a few months for a renovation. Had an errand to run in the area. Love this Trader Joe's location. Needed to get the ingredients to try making a kale salad at home for the first time. I am going to try pomegranate seeds, or dried cherries instead of dried currants. Had some difficulty finding dried currants. Would like to learn how to make a healthy version of soy ginger sweet and spicy vinaigrette. Did not have time to make the salad dressing personally. Opted for an organic store brand at another store. Despite the store being very busy. The lines, move fast! This store will be closing for renovations on April 17th, and will be closed 3-4 months. While I was in New York for Thanksgiving, I made a point to find a local TJ's. Located on the Upper West Side the store is spacious and organized across multiple levels. The staff were friendly and helpful. There's a dedicated employee navigating the checkout lines, which was very helpful during the busy flow. I came back the next day earlier than before, and it provided a much smoother experience. Love the unique and creative products, along with everyday basics, in the Trader Joe's label. The Crew Members were helpful, and friendly just like any other locations. Always a reliable stop for quick or intentional grocery runs in the neighborhoods. read more

This Trader Joe's is pretty big and bigger than other locations I have been. It got 2 levels when you go downstairs so it is that big and spacious. Also it is that convenient to the train station, just a block away! I was amazed at the beige and black canvas tote bag they got in stock because it is very thick and good quality to hold a lot of groceries! Staff is very nice there and usher you to the right cashier when it's time for your turn in the line. Lines move fast in this place because you got over 30 cashier registers! I love how they are always in stock for almost any tea like canned matcha green tea and bottled oolong tea. They are very affordable and I stock them from time to time. They also got supplements and natural and organic lotions that are priced very cheap compared to other supermarkets. Trader Joe's is definitely my number 1 supermarket for fresh groceries! read more

The escalator to the bottom level was broken, so it turned into stairs. There were employees at top and bottom with STOP and GO signs to prevent any traffic jams. The cart escalator was operating, though I didn't need to use it. I did go down the stairs to get sunscreen. TJ's has a highly-rated sunscreen at a great price, which I'm not allergic to, so it's worth the trip. Picked up some snacks down there as well. They really do have some great things in their brand. The checkout line seemed long but they have a traffic controller there too, and lots of cashier lanes working. Always friendly, even in NYC. My only complaint is the broken escalator. read more

The staff are still friendly and caught a couple employees, at the lower level, being quirky while folding up boxes. This may be the busiest Trader Joe's I've ever shopped in, but they manage to carry it off so professionally! Even with a sizable line, checkout moves quickly! The staff are always friendly and keep the shelves well stocked with all TJ's excellent selection! This UWS location is so well run! Kudos to this and the Columbus Av locations especially since during the pandemic they were places I could shop in an not feel gauged due to their nationwide pricing, especially when facing the outrageous ways my local grocers exploited the situation and more than doubled everyday items such as eggs and other necessities. Plus, TJ's staff (unlike my local grocers) did not skirt around the safety precautions and kept masked covering their noses and mouths. Shopping there was comforting, considering the challenges we all faced! That being said, happy now the closer Harlem location has opened enabling me to easily walk on over. Nevertheless, whenever in this UWS neighborhood, recommend stopping by. This Broadway & W 72nd Trader Joe's is fantastic! read more

I've been coming here for years. However, this location has gone downhill the past few months. Constant broken escalators, lack of stock, and more importantly rude staff often seen chatting and not focused on restock. No friendly demeanor like the past. I noticed there is a key pad door covering the restrooms too. So no public restroom now. Chaotic congestion inside with strollers, carts, people kicking baskets of food waiting in line, and then a pile up of folks since the cart escalator is down often. I've generally had positive experiences with staff in the past. So I was taken back by the attitude I received this visit. It was early on a Friday before the big snowstorm. My cashier was a young girl with a short dark haired bob. There was no hello or welcome. I asked about the restroom and with attitude was told 'ummm it's been closed since October!' As if I should know. I had an item I tried and didn't like so I wanted to return it. She asked for a receipt and I didn't have one. This has never been a problem in the past. She tells 2x in a condescending manner she'll do a return this time but I need to have a receipt. I calmly asked did the policy change? I've never been asked this and the sign in the store encourages people to buy, try, and bring back if we don't like. She continued to argue that they always want a receipt and once again with attitude tells me she's going to do it this time and calls over the manager to complete the return. Not wanting to argue, I checked out with this unsettling feeling. Then waited awhile for an elevator to get to street level since the escalator was down again. Consider going to another TJs. This location is not what it used to be.! read more

I LOVE this TJ's! It always has everything I want and need. The hard to find items that I can't get in Louisiana, my daughter or I can usually find them here. It's convenient, huge, and the staff is always nice & helpful. Making the service here great! They stock throughout the day, as in most TJ's, so there is rarely missing products. There is always a line, but the cashiers move it quickly, so it's not a big problem. Don't be discouraged by that. Great store with great selection and great service! read more

I went to this location recently because my mom had gotten a reusable bag and I really liked it. The bag looks similar to a LL Bean Bag and it has an outside pocket. I bought two bags (one in green and one in blue) for $3 (which makes them affordable). I was worried that they were going to be sold out since it is a popular item. In search of goodies to bring back home to Honolulu, simple toiletries and all the odds and ends you can find at Trader Joe's can be so much fun! I wanted to grab some stuff as this is the nearest location via train from my hotel and couldn't believe how close they are by foot and so close to MidTown! The only time I needed assistance was to find the nearest restroom which was on the basement floor. This Trader's has 3 floors in total. There is a public restroom for customers. The associate was kind enough to point it out to me. As busy as the store was at closing time, during the evening/after work hours, the cashier lines move very quickly! Went to this Trader Joe's near 72nd St and Broadway to buy dolmades (Greek stuffed grape leaves) . They didn't have any and told they don't know if they'll receive anymore, that it's been weeks, due to the crazy tariffs and shipping. Went through the store, although they had interesting items, even Cuban cuisine frozen food. But, nothing caught my interest and left, without buying anything. I noticed the lines were extremely long and crowded at checkout, hardly moving forward. That in itself would have caused me stress, to wait in that long line, taking forever to get to the cashier. This particular store, I won't come back. The 3 stars is for other food selections that was available, yet didn't pique my interest me to buy. read more

Coming from California, I was thrilled to be able to find a Trader Joe's and shop for many of my familiar staples here in Manhattan. I enjoy the layout of the 2 floors, though it can be rather cramped and crowded. The line, even on a weekday, is dreadfully long, so bring a book or a kindle or some way to pass the time so you don't get bored to death in line. I also carried a small dog in a doggy bag. Customer Service, Mission, Prices - 5 stars. But swapping out the huge suburban market carts for baskets on wheels would be much better, otherwise it's just a frustration game of bumper cars all day. For instance, at 1pm on a Friday, the line is to the door and several people have out carts in line and constantly abandon them to keep shopping. And the person in front of me has three items in their cart. You'd think with all the employees, someone could help with traffic. read more

The entire store is underground spread across 2 floors. The layout is like a rat maze and the store is always packed which makes getting through the narrow space quite difficult. Check out line is always long no matter what time you go and doesn't really move very fast. I prefer the Chelsea location on 6th Avenue at 21st Street! read more

this is the closest TJ to my home. My husband shops here several times a week. I shop here a couple of times a year. It is the worse TJ store I have ever been in and I have been in many around the country. the layout of the store is a nightmare. The physical location was a bad choice. the space is to small and one floor is in the basement and it feel like that. They must have a bad manager. The restocking is poor. The checkout staff often make pricing mistakes. The whole experience is depressing. It isn't keep so clean. They need a new store location. My husband continues to shore here but complain after each trip. He does try to scope other stores as much as possible however we do enjoy some of their unique items. Shape up TJ's. read more

Garbage. I've been going here weekly for 3 years and the last 5 months has been a nightmare. The escalator's never work, staff is too busy chatting to help restock the clearly empty shelves. Now they have no bathrooms for customers. Yelling at customers about the line is crazy! I used to love this place but will gladly pay more to make one trip and get what I want. Good - There was a worker stocking supplies who was really nice and helpful in helping me find things since it was the first time I visited and came specifically to this Trader Joe's. It's less busy and crowded compared to the one in Flatiron. Bad - I came with a friend and used the same cart to checkout separately. Cashier called the manager because of the one egg carton per customer policy (we each had one). We told the manager we live separately, and he responded that there's no way to know that, which I think is a fair statement. However, the fact is there is no way for them to police their policy, as the same customer can check out eggs multiple times on separate occasions. Customers are asked to adhere to their policy under good faith, and yet, an assumption was made that my friend and I were lying. Not a good feeling. read more

this is an A-okay Trader Joe's location. it's two floors below street level. this location feels a little bit old. the layout is a little strange but all your Trader Joe faves are here. frozen foods and breads are on the bottom floor. checkout, produce, meats, and more are on the upper floor. it actually wasn't crowded bc i headed here close to closing but i imagine this place is a mad house during normal hours because of its location in the Upper West Side. anyway, if anything this store needs a makeover and a better flow but beyond that service and goods are up to snuff. read more

Both the elevator and the up escalators at this subterranean store have been broken. For weeks. Unlike prior breakdowns with either, no repair attempts have been observed. This in what TJ's bills as its "busiest" Manhattan location. In a neighborhood that is substantially inhabited by seniors, and families with kids in strollers. Lugging groceries, carts, walkers, canes, and strollers up two flights of stairs? For months at a time? How can TJ's demonstrate such utter disregard and contempt for its loyal customers? read more

I've shopped at this Trader Joe's on many occasions. It's not a favorite because of the layout. However, it is convenient since I come from uptown and it's across from the subway. Since December the escalators & the elevators have been out more than working, sometimes out a month at a time - and the elevators were not designed to be useful when everyone has to use them. The last 4 out of 5 times they have been out of service. Tonight I went and no elevator, and no escalators. Since I can't I can't do the stairs I had to turn around and leave. Oh to have a TJ located near my home in Bay Ridge... Here's my first impressions: -2 floors!!!! Wow! Elevator! Escalator for my cart! - Cheeseeeeeeeee! Great selection!!!! -Service... on point - Store layout, wonderful! -Pricing? Some items were cheaper than Spring Street or Gold Street but more on certain items -Ambience: pretty chill! The way Fawn likes it -is it doable in the weekend? IMO, as with every TJ, heck no but even though packed, lines were moving faster than cars on the FDR Seriously, I'm very impressed.. Like most Trader Joe's locations, this store has a dairy, meat, and produce section, and it offers a decent selection of Trader Joe's branded groceries (e.g., frozen goods, bakery items, cereals, soups, snacks, paper towels, etc.). You won't find any name-brand products here, so that narrows your product selection, but it helps keeps grocery prices down--it's especially reasonably priced for NYC. While this location is conveniently located on 72th and Broadway next to a station for the 1, 2, and 3 trains, the downside is that there are generally large lines to buy groceries, and no self checkout options. So even if you need to grab only one item, you'll likely find yourself waiting 5-15 minutes in a line that wraps around the top floor of the store. read more

I purchased some ingredients so that I could make a Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding with Salted Caramel Sauce for my mom on mother's day. I had no trouble finding the ingredients I needed, and I even found some shishito peppers that I could make. For some reason, it's hard as hell to find shishito peppers so whenever I see them, it's a go-to purchase. I always go with some lemon or lime juice, a sprinkle of cayenne, and olive oil. The man behind the register was also really nice and personable. Every person I spoke with and asked for help was kind and didn't hesitate to point me in the right direction. read more

What a nutty layout this place has but wow, the customer service here is FANTASTIC! I was helped and walked through the store as the things I wanted were on different floors. At first, I thought "do they think I'm some sort of security risk" but in fact, it was the good old TJ service. Most of the Trader Joe's that I shop at usually have everything on one floor so this place gets a little hectic and let me tell you, it's crowded. But the way they made it such a nice experience for me was extraordinary. Shout out to who literally literally walked me through the store and the cashier was lineage from Greece, who is going to be a famous comedian and actor someday , equal shout out to the female manager really has this place together. I wish this spot had windows because it does feel a little bit claustrophobic, perhaps they'd like to put some mirrors in because it's hard to shop in a place that has zero view . This Trader Joe's on the UWS is conveniently located near the train station. The worker's are very friendly and always willing to help. A very nice variety of snacks. However, the downside is I came in here and the register that I was paying on was prompting me to enter a pin for my card. Since, this is a credit card I found this to be odd. It took 20 minutes to resolve. The lines are always long with no self checkout. To be fair the lines do move quickly. I would not recommend coming here if you're in a rush or have a half hour lunch break because of the long lines. One thing that is consistently a problem are the unclean public restrooms. I LOVE Trader Joe's. This one is close to my mother's UWS apartment, so I always stop in at least once per trip to stock her freezer. My mother won't shop here because it's too crowded, and the lines are too long, in her opinion. It's certainly MUCH more crowded than the Greenwood Village location, for sure. My SIL also does shopping runs for Mommy when she's in the city. The produce is awesome and FRESH. The flowers are reasonable. The cheese selection isn't huge, but it's well-planned, and the prices are FAR below Zabar's. Meats, dairy, and frozen food selections also aren't huge, but you can certainly find what you need, if not always what you want. I bought chicken sausage and chicken meatballs for my mother to apportion and freeze. The prepared vegetable selections (like asparagus and mushrooms) are fresh and tempting. I didn't have a lot of time to explore the store, as usual, but grabbed what I needed and got on line. I usually spend a lot more time browsing in CO. I also bought red and green grapes (in one package!), delicious blood oranges, and huge, juicy Meyer lemons. Yum!!! I'm sorry that I didn't have time to check out the frozen foods. My mother was deeply unenthused about the cauliflower gnocchi, but when I made it, she LOVED them. I'll buy some more on my next trip, since I forgot on this one. Associates definitely seem a little less cheerful than in Colorado, but given the constant crowds here, not a surprise. read more

TJ's usually makes me happy. However, I think it's only when I'm in the suburbs or out of NYC. TJ's in the city is always a shopping disaster. In the middle of the city, no free parking anywhere...with 10 million people in the store at a time. Especially this store! I am not a NY'er that gets groceries and gets on the train or the bus. I get in my truck. I don't want to hear no one drives here... please tell that to all the cars you see driving...lol. Born and raised in NY and can't get a TJ's w/ a parking lot unless I go to queens at the right time to park and shop. I've come to the conclusion that any Trader's Joe in the city is going to be insanely busy. This a bigger store and much better stocked than the other Trader's Joes in NYC.
