The people that work at this location are so friendly. The service is impeccable and above and beyond. It's very clear that the values they are instilling at this company are paying off. As someone who is in the hospitality world, it often blows my mind that the level of consideration and helpfulness at this company (and specifically this location) comes without any expectation of tips or kudos. This is the closest Trader Joe's to my house, so I shop here often, and recently I've noticed they have issues with their produce. I went to this store two days ago to grab some herbs. They were out of green onions, the Cilantro I picked out was rotten and the cashier had to get a new one for me (I only noticed it at checkout). If that was it, not a problem. However, today I opened the basil I purchased and the leaves on the inside of the package were not just rotten, but completely covered in mold. I should have been more observant, because I just checked the packing date and it's almost a week prior to my purchase. Now I have to throw the entire package away and buy more since I need it for a recipe, really disappointing. read more

You Americans with your Trader Joe may take this store for granted, but after enjoying the rare occasion when I can actually shop at TJ for a couple of weeks, I can confidently say that if I lived in a city with a Trader Joe's, I would be a totally different person. I would have a fridge full of pre-marinated steaks and pre-chopped salads and pre-cooked side dishes and I would casually invite people over at a moment's notice and have a large, devoted circle of friends who admired my effortless entertaining. I would buy pre-made salads for my daily lunch and be slender and yet economical, and I would give all my lunch savings to worthy causes. I would buy large flats of blueberries and giant bags of cashews for my children to snack on, so they would become healthy and tall and athletic, and then after they made the winning goal in their big game I would reward them with a single, chocolate-covered Trader Joe's marshmallow. But if I lived near this particular Trader Joe's, all those gains would be offset by my incipient alcoholism, since this TJ has the largest assortment of wine I've ever seen at a Trader Joe's. If it made me a more reliable, frequent and healthy cook, the alcoholic stupor would be worth it. read more

Came here on a Saturday night so I'm glad I didn't have to deal with parking. Having being alcohol deprived in weeks, came here thirstier than a (insert dirty joke here). I stood at the alcohol section for a good 5 minutes. They carry a nice few select brands. Came here specfically for a chocolate porter and a fruit lambic drink. Really, I think Trader Joe's reputation speaks for itself but it can't hurt to put a little Yelp on it. This store is amazing! If you've yet to visit it you're missing out. Think Whole Foods without breaking your whole budget. One note of caution get there early in the day if you're looking to stock up on fresh produce or some frozen items. They seem to stock towards the end of the night around 8pm -9pm and the pickings can be slim by that hour. I keep running into the lot when the big semi is bringing in fresh goods but they're not quite loaded yet. This TJ's is amazing. My bag broke here after I paid for groceries and there was a glass bottle of tea that shattered. 4 employees came up to me and patted my back and told me not to worry. The manager there was so nice and helpful and got rid of my ruined bag of groceries and gave me a brand new Trader Joes reusable bag with brand new groceries. Everyone was extremely nice and never made me feel embarrassed or silly. The manager also offered me a piece of chocolate. They say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. And for a child of 7 years, that may be true. But for adults, Disneyland is Hell on earth. The happiest place on earth is Trader Joe's. Seriously, try this: Go to Ralph's first and wander around the store. Depressing right? The employees look as though their souls have been ripped out of their poor diseased bodies and every aisle is filled with Kraft cheese such and such and high fructose so and so. Then, when you're about to slit your wrists from how depressing Ralph's is, walk up the street (or drive if you're wearing heels) to Trader Joe's. It's a wonderland. Firstly, Trader Joe's produce is a germaphobe's dream. Most of it is wrapped in plastic so I don't even have to think about the grubby hands that may have been groping my lettuce. Since slavery is illegal, I'm fairly certain the employees are there voluntarily and they all seem very happy to be there. Almost too happy. It makes me suspicious. They are helpful when suggesting a wine to serve with the Trader Giotto's brand pasta sauce and surprisingly knowledgeable about the history of the Speculoos biscuit cookie. And have I mentioned how good looking some of the employees are? Unlike Ralph's where the employees appear to be missing a chromosome, some of Trader Joe's employees may or may not have stepped out of the pages of a gently used catalog. Not necessarily an Abercrombie catalog, but a catalog nonetheless. It may sound like I'm a perverted middle-aged spinster (and I won't deny that I am), but I have often found myself just putting things in my cart without looking at what I was buying simply because I was distracted by a six-foot-two dark haired clerk stocking a shelf with almond butter. Only to discover later, after returning home, that I have no need for seven bags of coconut sugar. Since I'm always looking on the bright side, what would a review be without a little constructive criticism? So here goes: Trader Joe's stopped carrying that orange scented air freshener spray. You know, the kind that is made with real orange essence and leaves your bathroom smelling fresh after you-know-who has had a little whoopsie in the you-know-what? I've resorted to using matches again which only leaves the bathroom smelling like one of those burning bags of dog feces the horrible neighborhood children occasionally leave on my porch. My point is: Shop at Trader Joe's. Ralph's is just too depressing. read more

This Trader Joe's felt HUGE compared to the Goleta location! I felt like I had so much more space to move my cart around and could see things much better. I think they also have a larger selection of things. I saw some salads in the refrigerated section that I've never seen before. Mango chicken with quinoa? Definitely new to me, but so very tasty sounding. Wine and alcohol section was, again, way roomier than the one in Goleta. I didn't feel like I was about to take out an entire display of two buck chuck every time I moved the cart. Checkout person was quick and efficient and we barely had to wait in line. I didn't think Trader Joe's could be improved upon for the most party, but this location is definitely a superior store. Only downside: the parking lot is the opposite of the store, in terms of roominess. Not too bad, but it can be a pain during shopping rush hour. read more

I have made this my main and only grocery stop. I love to cook so I can't use TJ's as my main resource for ingredients all the time - their produce section is lacking - but I have found myself adapting recipes to fit what TJ's can provide me. The portion size of their items is perfect for smaller purchasers - and this also helps me cut down on waste. The staff is always friendly and eager to help or answer any questions. They also do an even-steven game - if your total comes up to a whole number (ie: $26.00 or $13.00) you get to try and make a basket to win a prize! hehe, cheesy but I've won twice now! read more

The wife and I decided to give this place a visit during our mini-vaca to Santa Barbara this past January. We were in need of a few provisions and it was close to our hotel so we figured.. why not? The location itself is a bit of a challenge to find since its situated in a way that kind of straddles two streets. The parking is also a bit of an adventure too when it's busy. This being said, however, we were pleasantly surprised. Our local TJ's is in Redlands and I think I prefer this location for a couple reasons. First of all - the aisles are wider than our local location. You don't have to fight and elbow your way past other shoppers here while perusing the lanes. And the other shippers here seemed far more polite and less harried! It didn't feel like we were in a jungle here. At our local TJ it seems like the other shoppers are so flippant inconsiderate that you leave just shaking your head. Here we left with our goods and a pleasant smile on our faces. Great selection of everything you expect at a Trader Joe's and the place was super clean. Employees were also friendly and helpful! Four solid stars here. This is the BEST Trader Joes in Santa Barbara. I am here, easily 2 times a week. The friendliest cashiers, quickest baggers & most helpful re-stocking + floating crew! If the manager reads these reviews, they should know their worker 'Loren' is really something else. He's so charismatic, fast, helpful and just a joy to spend those few minutes in the check outs with. Really love this location! Ditch the Milpas stop, and head up towards De La Vina. Note: Don't fret about the parking lot, there's ridiculous amounts of street parking! read more

Careful, check your receipts. Weigh your food. They have charged me double for some items. Also I believe its against weights and measures laws to charge for an items packaging and thats what Trader Joes does. Really Awful of them to be soo sneaky. My first experience with poor customer service yesterday at TJ's- I am usually very impressed by the employees' helpfulness and friendliness; however, the woman who rang me up yesterday left me not wanting to come back. I understand what it is like to run a tight ship to keep employees and customers safe during a pandemic, but this woman was very rude and her instruction unclear. I asked if I could approach her checkout stand and whether it was okay for me to set my items down on the shelf (she was not giving me any cues and I wanted to respect their procedure). She then barked at me "now, back!" So I stepped behind the plexiglass screen. She then scolded, "Nope!" and nodded to the direction where I had come from, so I stepped aside as she started scanning. When she was finished and the items were bagged, she gave no instruction. I eventually asked if I could come back over to pay and she nodded impatiently. As I paid for my items she chatted with her coworker; throughout the whole transaction she made no eye contact and the only words she gave me were "Now, back!" and "Nope!" She neglected to check my ID with my beer purchase; she was busy bragging to her coworker about how many years she'd worked at Trader Joe's. I left feeling frustrated with the lack of customer service and communication. I work for a retail corporation that takes many precautions to keep everything safe and sanitary and I know there is a level of sternness that comes with making sure everyone is following procedure; however that does not mean customer service should get thrown overboard. read more

So jealous of the SB residents that have spacious TJs in their area. While in Brea/Cerritos I can barely squeeze myself through each aisle. The positives is that everything was super organized but the layout was bit different from the other locations. Only negative thing is asking a TJ employee where an item was and she was completely oblivious as to where it was. I ended up finding it near the cash register. Womp womp, so I had to crawl my way back into line. The parking lot is a bit crowded given its in a small shopping complex but again this TJ is nice and spacious! read more

Staff is super helpful! I shop here every week. Sometimes the produce I that I bring home is bad but they accept returns. The parking lot is like every Trader Joe's- super small and you have to cross your fingers that you won't get into an accident on the way in our on the way out. read more

I love TJs! That being said, I have found that some of the staff here are more interested in joking around and conversing with each other than talking with customers. More than once I've come up to the cashier, was greeted, and then the conversation between employees continued through my entire checkout. And the parking lot sucks. Seriously bad--skinny spots, easily backed up, a line to exit. Ugh. That being said, there are so many TJ products I love that I willingly endure trips to TJs to stock up on Inner Peas, veggies, fruit, and juice. I won't even get into the candy selection--yum! I love doing my grocery shopping at Trader Joe's. They always have a good selection of yummy food that you wouldn't find in other grocery stores. Another plus is that you don't have to pay ghastly prices for these non-standard treats. They also have a good return policy, which I have yet to use. Produce is wrapped in set quantities, which keeps it in better shape, (but is a bit wasteful.) They offer up a selection of lactose-free products (aka soy based) and gluten-free products, so if you have special dietery needs, its a nice place to shop. They also have a good variety of organic foods and products if that floats your boat. If you're looking for baking basics, I would try a different store. Sometimes it's hard to find plain ol' flour, baking soda, etc. The wine selection is good, and if you want cheap they have their 2 buck chuck - yup bottles of Charles Shaw wine sell for $2. At this location the delivery truck comes around 7 pm, making the parking lot difficult to navigate. On the bright side, there usually aren't as many people shopping at this time. read more

Love this place, I think I'm here at least once a week, or twice if I get a last minute food order. I prefer to shop here for most of my fruits and veggies, if I'm not going to make it to farmers market. All their produce seems fresh and actually it is priced fairly, they have tons of organic items (my choice) and they don't break the bank. And the people are always restocking making sure shelves are full and never empty. Plus they all seem to be always super friendly and in good mood. The bathrooms are always clean and the sample station is also always clean. Coffee sampling place sometimes can seem a bit messy, but it just takes one person to mess that up, but did see a crew member get to it right away. Good selection of cheeses, beer and wines. And I do love the "what's new section" always great new finds. So yes I will continue to shop at Trader Joe's!! Wish there was something that could be done with the parking lot, never enough parking! read more

Best Place for a Missed Connection! That's my self-administered award for the Trader Joe's on de la Vina. This area has a high number of young professionals in residence, hence the eager wandering eyes and lingering looks in the produce aisle. Anyway, I love all Trader Joe's for their selection and prices of everything except their fresh fruit. Back in my day, sonny, Trader Joe's didn't have fresh fruit. They want to be more of a one-stop-shop so...perishables are now availables. The organic selection is improving, but I generally skip over them and head straight for canned and frozen goods that are miles better than the grocery store chains. Their wine and spirits selection are excellent and reasonably priced, too. There are two things that differ about this Trader Joe's to the others in Santa Barbara. One, as mentioned above, is the higher ratio of lusty thoughts from patrons and workers alike. The other is the parking. Egads, it's terrible, especially when the delivery trucks are there, taking up a major access-zone, which causes backup and many a frustrated shopper. If I could walk to this shop, I wouldn't have any issue with the parking here. But while I live closest to this TJ's, I'd rather drive all the way to the Goleta store because it's less of a hassle. read more

TJ's has always been amazing and today I have to write about it. I broke my ankle and thought I would call and ask if my favorite store delivers. Ryan answered the phone and although TJ's does not officially offer a delivery service, they decided to help me out anyway! They came through for me today and I was almost not surprised...because it is Trader Joe's! Their act of kindness is a huge reflection on this community and the TJ's Business! I don't know what the company does to keep employees so happy, but they are the happiest people I have ever met in a store (at least at this store). Always so ready to help, always so cheerful and friendly. I love the daily product samples. I can't tell you how many times it's given me the perfect idea for dinner, and the employee chef du jour always has the ingredients right there on hand or directs me to where I can find what I need. I don't even mind waiting on long checkout lines because the cashiers are so pleasant and inviting. Weird, right? A trip to TJ's has become a daily routine. read more

I nicknamed this place Trader Lovely's because it is the best place to shop for quality foods at a reasonable price. Products and staff are almost always a 5-star with an occasional product rating slightly lower. Overall this place is the bomb and I could not live in Saint Babs without it. It is our stable grocery store for most of our food items! Staff is highly trained and always friendly. More places need to learn from your training model as employees seem to be very happy. I only hope this will not be compromised in the corporate arena--cause without them, it would not be the bustling place it is!!!
