I am not an Arizona native and two things I have learned when it comes to minor to serious traffic law problems in Arizona. 1. You need a lawyer 2. You need the Traffic Law Guys. I had a lapse in judgement and was pulled over in Scottsdale for speeding. During the introductory conversations they assured me that they would do everything in their power to get the charge reduced to a civil violation and that there was a very good probability of success. After I paid them, they basically just said that there was nothing that they could do, the judge wouldn't sign off on a civil plea, and that I should plead guilty to the criminal charge. I was driving to Az, on the way to my best friend's wedding preparations, when I got pulled over. I received a criminal speeding ticket. I thought I had 60 days, as this is California's standard timeframe to take care of tickets. I also thought I could call an automated system and extend it. Speeding tickets in Az are a different ball game. I got back from Europe and called to check on my ticket. I got a message saying to call back during the court's business hours- no automated system. When I finally got ahold of the court, I found out that I had 30 days, not 60 days like CA. I had missed the deadline and they wouldn't grant me an extension. I got pulled over on the 202. Despite the fact that the speed at which I was accused of moving was pretty common for that part of the 202 at night, the police officer approached me in a very aggressive manner and bragged that he could take me to jail if he didn't have more important things to do. He gave me a criminal citation (which was also covered in a lot of scary-looking threats) and told me that I wouldn't be able to take traffic school. Driving from Page, AZ south on HWY89, straight uphill, good oversight and following another car at same speed. I didn't watch and obviously went way too fast (logged 87mph in a 55mph zone) and got pulled over by a police car heading towards me.
