This was an amazing unique place and their coffee was excellent. If you love coffee you need to come to this place. The employees were so friendly it made this a very pleasant stop on our trip. I loved seeing the different sacks of coffee beans stacked around the place. We will definitely be back!!!!

Found this gem while on a girls weekend in Nellysford, down from RVA. An absolute must if you're in the area. It's kind of hidden in the back of the community center. There's a HUGE space/playground right in front of it--truly a paradise for parents I'd been craving a cafe con leche and imagine my surprise when this tiny coffee shop gave me one of the best ones I've ever had! It was even on their menu? Lol. I was blown away by the quality. Also really cool to see the beans roasted right in front of you.

What a unique spot! Great coffee and matcha... I ordered an Americano with hazelnut syrup, while my husband ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup. Both were delicious! The Americano wasn't over-roasted or bitter. Prices were very impressive too. I also ordered a bag of the Love Blend to take home. Service was good. There were two women working the busy shop. Ambience was straightforward. No inside seating, but plenty outdoors. Wish they had some grab-and-go foods, especially since there aren't many coffee shops out here. But nonetheless, I highly recommend!

Ahh such a hidden gem, not only is the coffee tasty.. it's freshly roasted on site. I loved that it was in a community center with play area for kiddos! We enjoyed our coffee while the kids played.

We found this place by luck. We just wanted some coffee since we were driving from several hours out. We noticed that they had a seasonal honey lavender latte and vanilla rose latte so we decided to try them both and see. I highly recommend either one of these. The vanilla rose latte was amazing, but I'm pretty sure the lavender latte will change your life. Also, the Trager Brothers Coffee team was friendly and very helpful with our questions. Our experience was so good that when we had to drive back out of town we made sure this was our first stop before we left. We ordered the honey lavender latte and vanilla rose latte again. This place is AWESOME and if the weather permits, sip your coffee on the picnic tables out front. The view is unbeatable.

We were tucked in down near Devils Backbone Brewing Company, enjoying the kind of getaway folks put on postcards. My coffee, however, was less postcard and more field exercise--Army strong, boiled on a camp stove, poured out of a percolator that's likely seen more campaigns than I have. My wife took one sip and gave me that look... the one that says, "I love you, but this is unacceptable." So we broke camp early and pointed ourselves back toward civilization. About three miles down the road she spotted Belties. Now I've driven past that place more times than I can count, back when it looked like an old house that had just given up on things. But somebody got hold of it and turned that sow's ear into something you'd be proud to show company. We pulled in, and right off the bat--you could tell--they knew what they were doing. Service was quick, friendly, no fuss. The kind of place where nobody's trying too hard, which is usually when things turn out just right. The food? Lord have mercy. Every bit of it. And the atmosphere--well, it had character without trying to beat you over the head with it. That's a rare combination these days. Most places either feel like a museum or a storage unit. This one felt like the establishment wanted you to relax. And the coffee... now that was coffee. Not punishment in a cup. The kind you sit with for a minute and reconsider your life choices--like why you ever thought campfire tar water was a good idea. We'll be back. For the coffee, sure--but I've got a feeling we won't be leaving empty-handed next time. There'll be a goody bag involved. Maybe two. Some lessons you learn the hard way. Others come with a good cup of coffee and a smart woman who knows when to say, "Pull in right there

On our way to our Airbnb, a friend and I stopped by Happ, which is located inside an industrial-style building that's incredibly spacious. There's plenty of seating, along with a dedicated area where beans are available for purchase. The barista was really friendly, and we ended up having an in-depth conversation about drink recommendations. When I settled on a cappuccino, he walked me through how each milk option paired with the espresso. I ultimately chose whole milk since it doesn't have an overpowering flavor like almond milk, which allowed the light-roast espresso (an optional upgrade) to really shine. I didn't fully enjoy the cappuccino during the first couple sips because the mouthfeel of the whole milk felt a bit too thick, which didn't pair well with the light roast. However, it became more harmonious as I continued drinking, and the highlight was definitely the bright sweetness of the espresso. I really appreciate a coffee shop that pulls a light-roast espresso well. The barista asked for my thoughts, which I shared, and he then pulled me a shot using their South Paw (house espresso blend) beans to try. I thoroughly enjoyed this light-medium espresso, which was bright and strong, without the unpleasant acidity or bitterness that often follows. I don't typically recommend ordering a straight espresso shot at most coffee shops, but Happ does it well. Overall, it was a great experience -- lovely coffee and friendly baristas who genuinely care about their craft. I left with one of their limited-release coffees (a Peruvian Geisha), which I'm looking forward to trying as a pour-over at home.

My friend and I stopped by this past Saturday morning to grab coffee for ourselves and our other friends. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but dang, Mudhouse is expensive. It shocked me to see DC pricing, if not more pricy. I was feeling a pour-over this morning, so I asked the baristas what they recommended since I was looking for their wildest offering. If I remembered correctly, they suggested one of their current single origins, Costa Rica - Finca Las Torres Honey Process (tasting notes: candied plum, red apple, honeycomb). The pour-over was $8, which is crazy. I should have just bought a bag of beans (which is 3x more expensive), and I would have been able to make 20 cups for myself. The pour-over was good though, bright and fruity, and I enjoyed drinking it even without a pastry. I picked up a different pour-over (also a single origin and was $8) and matcha ($7.75 for a small) for a couple friends. They both enjoyed their drinks (the matcha was very green and tasted legitimate) but thought it was more expensive than it should be. Overall, still a solid coffee roaster in the area with a homey and spacious interior -- just a bit too expensive for coffee and tea.
