The Whoa Nelly and Belle's Bun
    Danny L.

Located in Nellysford, VA on the increasingly famous Rt 151, Belties is about the only place you can find breakfast food outside your own kitchen. Being near Wintergreen Resort it draws a diverse crowd of tourists and locals, and the prices reflect that. The day we visited (Sunday at noon) there was a steady flow of guests. The line would get long but diminish quickly. The staff was super friendly and brought the food out quickly. The menu includes biscuit and pastry centered creations. The biscuits are huge and flaky. The pastry I tried was also delicious. The atmosphere they are going for is farm chic. The downside is it all comes off a little contrived. A pen with 4 Scottish Beltie cows and a small barn in the back by the parking, but a glance to the left you see not a rolling farm, but a standard ranch style house that must endure the constant traffic. The food is good, but not $13 chicken biscuit good. I ordered the Whoa Nelly ( biscuit with fried chicken, fried tomato, pimento cheese, and habanero jam). Thankfully I got the jam on the side bc it was a bit too spicy for me. I also fear that it would have been the only thing I would have tasted. The biscuit was good as was the chicken, but I could not taste the tomato or the pimento cheese at all. If I had added that jam it would have overwhelmed everything. The Chicken Pot Pie featuring a biscuit as the crust was a good choice. A crusty biscuit resting atop a rich creamy chicken and veg filling. It could have used a bit more savory seasoning, but overall a solid choice. The big question: would I return? Yes, but I am not going to go out of my way. It's decent food but overpriced for what it is.

This little spot is the perfect mix of farm-chic charm and seriously good coffee. The decor ties everything together beautifully think cozy farmhouse vibes with photos of their cows on the walls and even a tiny lit-up "mini house" built right into the wall, complete with a front door. It's whimsical and warm all at once. We stopped in just for coffee this time, and it did not disappoint. Smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced the kind of latte that makes you pause mid-conversation just to appreciate it. The menu sounded amazing (definitely planning to come back hungry next time). They've got stylish, reasonably priced merch, plus their own coffee beans available ground or whole for taking a bit of Belties home with you. Outside, there's a small pasture area for the cows and even a drive-through barn that leads right up to their pickup window. Between the friendly service, the thoughtful design, and the fact that you can sip great coffee while watching cows graze Belties is an absolute gem in Nelson County.

We visited on a Saturday morning and the place was really busy. They have inside seating, patio seating and you can also eat at picnic tables in the yard by the cows. You stand in line to order food right when you come in the door. They give you a buzzer that will buzz for food and coffee orders. They also call your name before buzzing and will deliver food to you once you tell them who you are after they call your name. They have a self serve complimentary water dispenser but it goes fast and we had to ask for it to be refilled. The drinks and food were pretty quick and we were able to find a table inside the cute farmhouse cafe. I noticed they had books on a hearth of the fireplace for kids to keep entertained while there. I really enjoyed my woah Nelly with the bacon habanero jam and pimento cheese. My son had the biscuits and gravy and I liked the scallions it had in there. My husband had a double order of egg bites that he couldn't finish. I would definitely return again. We probably spent about $50 for the three of us. The mocha coffee was great and they had oat milk as an option for my hubbies matcha latte We of course visited the cows and could see more inside. They had cornhole boards outside so I played a game with my son.

These biscuits are absolutely fantastic. Stopped here on our way home from Wintergreen Ski Resort and it was a highlight of the entire trip. We got to see the cute cows and warm up by the fire inside with our very big and homemade breakfast sandwiches. The place was packed but the service was friendly and quick.

Food (5/5): It's so hard to find a good biscuit- this hits the mark! They are 18 layers of fluffy and flakey biscuit! I got the Woah, Nelly biscuit ($13) with bacon ($4). The prices are a bit high for quick service (no table service) and yet the quality is amazing. The breaded chicken breast was a bit meh, but the habanero jam and pimento cheese made up for the lack of taste. And again, the biscuit was amazing!! Service (4/5): They lose a star because they don't have service at the tables. You stand in line to order and then they give you a buzzer. You go and pick up your food. They had really nice servers walking around in case we needed anything. Ambiance (5/5): Cows!! They are just so cute!

Belties is cute and fun! It's very busy on the weekends, so plan to go early or for them to be out of some things. The chicken pot pie was amazing. The baked goods have been hit or miss, the grits could use some more flavor. Overall, I would go again when I'm in the area.

My sister and I came here for breakfast but did drive-thru since we had a time constraint. The place is so cute though. their drive-thru has you go under a barn. There's cows which is cool. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We did the biscuit breakfast sandwiches - I did scrambled egg and sausage and my sister did scrambled egg, bacon, and cheddar cheese. I also got side of hashbrown patties. For drinks I got an iced dirty chai with almond milk and my sister did a large skim latte with 2 shots of vanilla. All of it was really good! Their breakfast sandwiches are big! The ladies at the drive thru window were nice!

Just a super cute farm-to-table cafe with cows, chickens and great signage. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the drinks were served quickly. I was told to visit this place by a local friend, and I'm so glad I listened. Worth the visit! If you don't have a lot of time, they have a drive thru that goes through the little barn.

Excited for a biscuit place in the area! Plenty of parking, building nails the classic farmhouse look. It was very busy and a little of a wait for food but not bad at all and worth it. I got the woah Nelly and added bacon which was delicious! Husband got the Nelson and also loved it. Did not get any coffee or pastries so cannot comment on that but we'll be back for the biscuits!

What a find! Full coffee bar with in house roasted beans. The best freshly baked biscuits you'll find. Friendly service. Activities for the kids. Indoor and outdoor dining.

Absolutely delicious. Fast-food speed with sit down quality taste. Very friendly service. Great outdoor space for kids. The place does get very busy, but they handle it very well.

What I didn't realize is not only is the food delicious, but there are free range chickens and actual Belties /cows out in the barn that you can visit.

I thought it was good, but not amazing. For my main, I got the cast iron with seared tuna and shrimp and for my two sides, I got mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It was quite good. The portion was solid, but the blackening seasoning on the tuna was a little too salty and the shrimp wasn't too flavorful but the red chimichurri sauce helped cut the saltiness and add flavor at the same time. For dessert, my husband and I shared the cookie skillet. It was a little sweeter than I would like but still ate it all, but not sure I'd get it again.

Our waitress was great, very fast, attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, that's about all I can say. I got a fried oyster appetizer. These were good, if a little greasy. For my main, I went with a NY Strip steak with a side of mushrooms and vegetable kabob. I had asked for the steak to be rare. It was more on the side of medium well, and pushing well. I can handle that, but it was also surprisingly bland. I had to add salt and pepper just to eat it. How do you strip a steak of flavour? The mushrooms were salty, and mostly breading over cheap buttons. Chewy and bleh. The vegetable kabob was singular. Literally two mushrooms, a bit of bell pepper, and an onion, maybe six pieces. But, hey, I got my vegetable for the day, right? Also, honestly, it was not an inexpensive dinner. Even ignoring pricing, it wasn't good. Ambiance and service? Great. Food? No, thank you.

But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage.
