    Very greasy bacon
    Robert K.

I came in here to eat before a round of golf. I ordered the eggs hashbrowns and English muffin along with bacon. The food came out in my scrambled eggs were kind of rubbery and my bacon was completely burnt. The hashbrowns were huge and really hot. So those were pretty good. My English muffin was barely even warm. I asked the waitress for some more bacon and she brought out a plate of bacon that was so greasy I could barely eat it. I ate what I could of my meal and then decided to pay. I told the waitress about the bacon and asked if they pre made the scramble eggs? She told me they make their eggs on the spot. The waitress understood my concerns and decided to just give me my $15 back for the breakfast. That was very nice of her but I was just trying to be constructive criticism with her so she could tell her chef that the food was not appropriate to be served. I was thinking for a really nice resort like this that the food would be really good but I guess I was mistaken. Next time I'll probably just grab a breakfast sandwich down by the golf clubhouse and call it good.

Trailhead is located at the front of the Pronghorn course. Service is laid-back and friendly! All the Pronghorn employees are genuinely nice and have a great sense of humor. I would consider myself a guest way on the margins of elite golf club society, and I have been treated with nothing but amicable gestures. Trailhead grill serves the typical fare of the hungry and posh golfer-- nice booze and american bites with a twist on finer condiments. I can speak to the menu items orderable from the golf cart at the 8th hole or by walking in-- The pronghorn burger is a bacon cheeseburger on a kaiser roll. The grillmaster does a fantastic job of cooking the meat to perfection. It says it comes with potato chips, but I have learned that 'side of potato chips' is used very lightly . Seems you are able to opt for fruit, salad, or fries as well The fries are bomb diggity... they are savory like straightened curly fries. There is also a chicken ceasar wrap with a twist of cranberries and nuts. I couldn't bring myself to try it, because the thought of cranberries in the wrap de-railed me. I used my 'I have a lingering cold' excuse on it instead.... which is actually true, but I probabaly could have tried it anyways with minimal risk of spreading my germs. My golf enthusiast eating companions seemed to have enjoyed it anyhow. Lastly, the menu offers a hot dog. It seemed odd to me that the wrap and burger descriptions were long and detailed with types of cheese, breads, etc.... but the hot dog was simply described as hot dog with deli mustard on _____ bread. Huh, looks kind of weak when the two other choices above used fat least 80 words to describe it. I also can't justify spending $10 on a hot dog, when it literally says hot dog. There are other mouth watering descriptions for the dog.... sausage, polish, frank, mixed meat stick... then throw a couple more adjectives in there.... juicy, succulent, scrumptious, appetizing. Boom, at least 20% increase in orders and perhaps one from me. I highly suggest this activity: Order your item at the beginning of the 8th hole, stopping in to Trailhead for a drink or coffee while waiting for the order, grab it to-go, thoughtfully munch on your lunch in the shade while looking out at the greens, and dump that ish into a chief at the beginning of the 9th hole. I'd call that a golfer's picnic. I rate it three stars because it is right on par with what is to be expected of golf course eatery.

Overpriced mediocre food--don't order the Caesar salad as that is terrible. Smash burger was edible but no chips or fries for the price.

So we went. Upon entering we were immediately seated with menu's in hand. So far, so good right? Our waiter served us chips and salsa and took our drink orders. I had a standard Margarita and daughter just water. Waiter was pleasant but had zero personality IMHO? C&S were good. I had 2 Flautas with Rice and Refried Beans. Daughter chose a Chili Relleno Rice and Beans. Ok...back to the Margarita. Weird taste and honestly I question if there was any tequila in it? Hmmmm?. Food arrived shortly after. It looked so good and beautifully presented. I appreciate great plating! Upon digging in I was rather disappointed. It was very bland. Not bad, but very lackluster. Note: Rice and Beans were delicious. Daughter's Relleno? Looked amazing but the Poblano Pepper was not even close to being done. Therefore the cheese was not even melted inside? Not to mention there was hardly any sauce on it? The inside of the restaurant looks more like a cute breakfast place with little to no Mexican decor. I'll go back, but order maybe Enchiladas and see how those are?

The service was okay, but the overall experience felt a little confusing. The atmosphere had more of a buffet-style feel, while the menu seemed to go in several directions. A lot of the food leaned Mexican, but they also offer steaks, pastas, and burgers to match the steakhouse name, which made it hard to get a clear sense of the restaurant's identity. That said, the Mexican dishes we had were delicious and really stood out. Honestly, leaning more into the Mexican restaurant direction might be their best path because that food was excellent. Overall, good food, just a bit unclear on the concept. As a steakhouse: As a Mexican restaurant:

As we approached the front doors, one employee of the six we saw inside, a young man, probably 16 yoa, with short ash blonde hair, about 5'6", walked hurriedly to the door and locked it as we approached it. He was looking down, not making eye contact, kind of smirking. I knocked on the door to say it wasn't nice and also hadn't reached 8:30, but he locked the interior set of doors, still not making eye contact, but now just laughing. We drove into the lane to order. I said what he had done wasn't good service, the window worker, who dressed differently and looked like the manager, perhaps, wasn't aware of what had happened and just focused on taking our order (one medium blizzard). I asked for the owner's name, but was told they don't give it out. Had the male teen given customer service, apologized that he was just locking up and been polite I would've explained we were just ordering a blizzard and wasn't going to dirty their tables or anything. But I know it was the smirk, laugh, and eye contact avoidance that lead me to taking the time to leave this review. SMH. I hope owner Pablo Pena and partner Juvenal Santana will appreciate that their staff may not be doing their best to keep customers coming back.
