The burger was probably the highlight of the meal. Mine was a little more done than I prefer, but it was still very good. The beet salad was enjoyable, though not particularly memorable. The mussels were okay, but several were chewier than I'd expect. The biggest disappointment was the wild mushrooms. I was expecting something that would showcase the variety and flavor of wild mushrooms. Instead, the texture and taste reminded me of the canned mushrooms I grew up eating as a kid. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. We passed on dessert and left feeling a little underwhelmed given the prices and the setting. Would we come back? Probably not. I'd suggest checking out their website as well, it shares their personality of this restaurant. We visited on a Tuesday night shortly after they opened. The place was busy, full of happy people, and the energy was great. We sat at the bar and patiently waited for the staff--understandably busy with a full house. The service was wonderful, and the drinks were fantastic. We ordered the shrimp tacos, and they were delicious--definitely worth it! I also really appreciate that they support local vendors, like Sisters Smoke House and Sisters Bakery. We had a great experience and will definitely be back!

While all the dishes were vvery good, the standouts to me were the steak Tartare, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Cheesecake.

It was *chef's kiss* I also got the dungeoness crab Calabrian pasta, because I love Calabrian chiles. It didn't have the deep flavor I was looking for. And the pasta really overtook the crab. The Open Door has some very-good food, and some pretty-good food. You never know which it's going to be. The halibut, meatballs, and lasagnas are solid. Berries and cream dessert is great. The menu doesn't change much over the years. If my wife didn't love it I wouldn't go back so often. Get bored eating the same dishes over and over. When my brother and his grown kids visit they like the atmosphere, especially those small houses outside with the plants. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

My steak was PERFECTLY cooked to med rare and seasoned. Besides the amazing service, the food was absolutely incredible. We ordered the bruschetta, the eggplant, and the cauliflower as starters, and split a salad. Everything was great, and it was hard to decide what was best. In fact, one friend said the bruschetta was her favorite, another said the cauliflower was her favorite, and I said the eggplant was my favorite. But all of them were great! Besides all of this, the atmosphere is artistic and peaceful. I wish this was closer to where I live! I can't wait to return.
