This is a cute place with excellent outdoor seating that is inside a hotel. We had a reservation and were left to stand up at the host stand for a bit. They seemed a bit discombilated. A staff member said they would be back. It was a long while before anyone came back and seated us. They were not busy with diners yet. There were 6 tables. We were seated and ordered coffee. The coffee was good and the server kept the coffee and 1/2 and 1/2 coming. We both ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Bennie for $27 a plate. It took over an hour to get our food. Other folks got their food way more quickly. We are not sure what was up with our food and why it took over an hr for it to come out. We also did not have silverware and had to request it when the food came. For the prices of this place they need to get it together. This place is $$$ spendy for brunch. $27.00 for eggs Bennie and they were pretty stingy with the hollandaise sauce. It was nothing spectacular. The eggs Bennie were decent and the potatoes were tasty. They took 25% off of our meals for our wait and gave us free coffee. As a former server, there is no way I would I make chill diners who did not complain or get mad pay for 75% of their meals after they waited over an hour for their food. Great location of the restaurant with good seating arrangements indoor and outdoor for summertime. I got the raspberry mule suggested the waiter which was quite minty but refreshing. The salad was pretty good as well. Not sure why the wait staff was very eager for us to order. Had Mother's Day's brunch at Roam today. Started off with a couple of Bloody Marys which were pretty good! The server then came out with a couple of raspberry beignets, they were delicious. I ordered the smoked salmon Benedict with avocado, and my husband ordered the pastrami and avocado omelette. Just a short walk from my stay at McMenamins, Roam was the perfect breakfast stop. I ordered the Signature Breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast--it totally hit the spot. I did add avocado for an extra charge, though next time I might skip it since the portion didn't quite match the price. Located inside the Oxford Hotel, Roam offers a beautiful, relaxing space that's perfect for a leisurely morning meal. Great service, great atmosphere, and a solid breakfast overall! read more

We were staying at the adjacent Oxford Hotel and came in for a late bite after settling in. Sleek, clean space dressed in black and white with some natural green and brown highlights. I especially appreciated their seasonally appropriate gourd displays scattered around the place. It wasn't busy at all so we were seated right away in a booth near the entry to the kitchen. Friendly service from Jeff. Husband really enjoyed his Fritz Old Fashioned. I opted for a glass of Chardonnay. I wasn't too hungry so went for the Caesar salad. The garlic-roasted chickpeas and farro were a fun spin on this classic and the croutons may have been the crunchiest I've ever experienced (in a good way). He got the campfire chicken with polenta and it was absolutely scrumptious. We kept trading dishes back and forth and it ended up being a perfect amount of food for both of us. We found ourselves roaming downtown in Bend without reservations and after stopping at every restaurant in sight to get told it'd be a 90 minute wait. That was until we ran across Roam, where we were able to get seated and served immediately. I was surely thinking the only place we found with an open table would probably not be great, but I was wrong. The service was wonderful, the place was clean and comfortable. The old fashioned was made with Buffalo trace and was perfect. The steak cooked to a wonderful medium rare and served with chimmichurri. The truffle fries were perfect. We stopped by ROAM the day after Valentine's Day, excited to try some of their delicious-looking menu items--only to find out that most of the things we wanted (including the truffle fries!) were sold out. Total heartbreak! It felt like every time we picked something, we got the dreaded "Sorry, we're out of that." I get it--it was a busy weekend--but it definitely took the excitement down a notch. That said, the restaurant itself is gorgeous--bright, open, and a great place to relax. And our server? Super sweet and totally apologetic, even though it obviously wasn't her fault. Date was 7/19 around 11am. Server: Ana (server was actually very nice to start, just didn't handle the situation properly). Started off well, they gave my daughter little toys to play with. We ordered her food first, then ours so that we can eat without having to feed her at the same time (she just turned 2). Once we ordered our food we waited about an hour to get our meals. Mind you, we only ordered two salads. All tables around us got there after us, ate, and left before we even got our food. The worst part was that the waitress avoided our area for that long, and the manager checked on the tables around us but not our table. They clearly knew something was wrong and they never updated us or asked if we needed anything. Instead, they avoided and neglected us. Our toddler was running out of patience and so were we. Once the food came out the waitress apologized and claimed they had a large party come in which delayed them.. we ordered two salads, it doesn't take long to make. In addition, why would you cater to a large party before us when we got there first. It was a terrible experience, which was unfortunate because it started off so good. After that they offered nothing to make it better. Overall this falls on the manager for not, at the very least, checking in on us. Spent about $100 on a kids meal, 2 salads, a cup of grapefruit juice, and a Bloody Mary. Food was not bad, but the service was awful. read more

Found Roam after our original choice was packed and had a two hour wait. Was able to get in quickly and greeting by our friendly server Kelly who also offered some tips for us out of towners on good hikes locally. The food was fresh and delicious. I needed a spot for brunch on a Sunday with my family and the photos on Yelp made it seem like this was a good place to go. There were pros and cons for sure. If you don't feel like reading what I'm about to write, I'll just tell you now that I won't be returning. Upon walking in, a lady was at the greeter counter and I asked if there were any tables for 4 adults and a baby. She looked me up and down (in a very judgey way), and then looked around inside and then continued to say they only had seats outside. (There were so many empty seats inside, so this was a bit off putting) I agreed to us sitting outside because the sun started coming out. We were seated and then sat and waited about 5ish min for the server to come and ask us if we wanted drinks. We ordered coffee, and then food. We ordered, the French toast, elk hash, biscuits and gravy, and eggs Benedict. I'll speak for my food, and say that it was ok. Not stand out for the price, and didn't really have that homey feeling you get when you have a truly delicious eggs Benedict. The side potatoes were very good though, I have to give them that. The English muffin under the eggs and ham tasted like it was soaked in butter, which was super overwhelming because there wasn't enough sauce to begin with. The coffee with good though, pretty standard. I will say that the items seemed overpriced for what was being served. They also charged $8 for 3 pieces of bacon (that's pretty insane, right?) Im always down to spend some money on exceptional food, but this felt very meh. I think I had expected more because of past reviews! (Which was my bad, and I guess now I know!) Overall, I would give this place a 5.3/10 for service and give the food maybe a 6/10 (mainly because my mom and my husband said they enjoyed their meal) though my sister got really bad stomachache while eating her food, and only ate about half of her meal because of it. I ordered a yogurt parfait to go here one morning to bring back to my room. It was very overpriced at 14$ before tip but the ingredients were fresh and tasted high quality. The only thing I would have liked would have been some honey or a sweetener since the yogurt was plain. The servers were soo friendly though. Great service here. We ended up staying right next door and decided to pop in as it was so close and it looked promising. The food and drinks were delicious, definitely did not disappoint. We ended up getting some drinks to start. The yuzu lemonade was a non-alcoholic drink, but it was very tasty and refreshing. The yuzu taste was not overpowering and the lemonade made it refreshing. Also got the Forager and it was quite a pleasant surprise! The black pepper was a good mix to the gin and lime! Also a light and refreshing drink, it was exactly what we were looking for after a day of traveling. For food, we got the NY strip and the mushroom gnocchi. Both meals were a generous amount of proportions with full of flavor. The steak was seasoned well and the chimichurri sauce to top the steak and potatoes was a great balance. The mushroom gnocchi was light and the mushrooms and sauce were a perfect complement to keep the taste buds craving more. No flavor. Ordered a rare "bone-in" ribeye, didn't have a bone and was more medium. No seasoning to be found on it , just bland as can be. When asked about the missing bone, "I guess they just cut it wrong". Ordered bone-in pork chop, it was tender but again the only flavor it had was the glaze it came with. Expensive for expensive sake. Not worth the expensive for food that was over all just bland. At least there was salt and pepper on the table. Service was fine. read more

Wow we had absolutely HORRIBLE service at ROAM...and it was my birthday dinner so I was really looking forward to it! So disappointing! It just felt like our server (Samantha) didn't want to wait on us at all. We asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the lead server!! She didn't even keep our water glasses full, didn't ask if we liked our meals, didn't offer us dessert (we came because they have a crème brûlée bar). I defended her to my husband saying maybe she was just waiting on a lot of tables but we turned around and she was standing at the bar in conversation. I will say the food was phenomenal. My husband had the waygu bolognese and brown sugar bourbon and bacon crème brûlée, and I had the mushroom alfredo gnocchi and Madagascar vanilla crème brûlée. Very very good. Holly saved our first experience of Roam. I made a 10:00 AM brunch reservation for my wife and I for inside seating. When we arrived at 10:03 AM, the hostess told us the restaurant was full (which it clearly wasn't), and only outside seats were available. (At this point, there was no reason to make a reservation, as I could have been a walk in.) Else, it would be at least a 20 plus minute wait for an inside seat. She made some poor excuses as to why she couldn't seat us - it was clear she was new, and needed more training. She never even offered us bar seating - which had plenty of room. We were lucky we looked at the bar, and grabbed a seat, to have one of the best bartenders and servers in Bend take care of us - thank you Holly! It was clear she had seen what transpired just minutes prior, and she single handedly rescued Roam's reputation. He amazing attitude, empathy, and customer service were top notch - she deserves an A+ rating and a raise. She made us some wonderful drinks to start, explained the menu to us in detail, and really made the experience very intimate and wonderful. Half an hour later, we were offered a table, but we didn't want to be separated from Holly, so we ate at the bar as we chatted more about how wonderful Bend is - she really made our day. Complete 180 from our experience when we walked in. The food - excellent. The Elk Morning Hash was cooked perfectly - sausage tasted great, the egg was perfect. She had the omelet - light, and fluffy, like out of the Test Kitchen. High marks all around. We hope to come back and see Holly soon! I can't comment on the food, because we never got any. We never even gave our order, because we were seated then completely ignored for over 30 minutes. We were in the very front table, right outside the front doors, in clear view of all the waitstaff. We watched as the people around us ordered, received their drinks, etc. our server walked by us repeatedly and did not ever make eye contact. After 20 minutes, I went in and asked if someone could take our order. The person I spoke with said someone would be right out. But no one ever came. We waited patiently for 10 more minutes then gave up to find somewhere to eat that actually would acknowledge our presence. Went here on our first evening in Bend we had the Burrata Caprese and the Shrimp skewers both were very good. The Burrata Caprese was so yummy I would definitely recommend this to any one who likes Burrata & tomatoes. To drink my bf had the Wild Ride which was a beer and I had the Lychito. This was a very good cocktail. I know it had Vodka in it. The drink was very good as well. Our bartender was a nice guy named Heath. He gave us some good suggestions on where to go and even some food opposition in the are. Thank you for being so friendly you made our evening much more enjoyable. If I lived in Oregon, this is a restaurant I'd make a trip for. Easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time (and I love to eat). Cody was a fabulous server, very friendly and knowledgeable, and made sure our glasses were always full. We had apps for dinner: Burrata caprese salad, pesto chicken aracini, Bang Bang shrimp, pork belly sliders, honey whipped feta with grilled peaches. We also got the wagyu sliders, which were flavorful and had an excellent char on them. My favorites were the pork belly sliders (melt-in-your-mouth perfection, extremely flavorful but not too rich, nice crunch added by the veggies) - legit the best ones I've ever had! - and the honey whipped feta with grilled peaches. The honey whipped feta was light, airy, and had such an interesting flavor, especially paired with the peaches. For dessert, the créme brûlée (a salted caramel pretzel topping over vanilla custard, and the Madagascar Vanilla, which came with berries.) The salted, caramelized pretzels were my personal favorite but the custard itself was excellent too! read more

This was a tough decision...I was dangerously close to giving Roam a 2-star review. I will start with the positives: the service was good, the staff was very outgoing and friendly. Food: The old fashioned was decent, and (2) of our (3) appetizers that we ordered were fairly good. The bang bang shrimp was definitely the best. The whipped feta could have been amazing, however it was under-seasoned. The cook on the heirloom carrots partially saved the whipped feta appetizer. My colleague and I decided to order and split the Alabama chicken sandwich and the waygu bolognese. The Alabama white BBQ sauce was bland with absolutely no heat and (start of a theme) the chicken was under-seasoned. The waygu bolognese was so woefully under seasoned and was the single largest disappointment of the night. The dish was bland, under-sauced, rendering it a bit dry, and had no discernible salt or any other seasoning for that matter. Roam could be a great culinary experience, but not until the basics are consistently executed. A little disappointed since this is part of the Oxford Hotel. I was expecting a little more from a boutique hotel. I've always enjoyed 10 Below in the past. Service was super friendly. Bacon was way overdone. Only 2 pieces? Sourdough toast didn't have much flavor. Herb garlic potatoes didn't have any detectable herb or garlic. Salt was there for sure. Almost too much. Eggs were done just fine. Plating was pretty basic. A garnish of some sort would've made a real difference. Some berries, sliced fruit.....something to make the whole presentation less brownish? also...bathroom situation is awkward. You have to go through the lobby and take the elevator downstairs. right. I know that's were the old restaurant and bar used to be, but it's odd. The tablet used for credit card payment had greasy fingerprints for the night before. kinda gross. I say charge another $2 or $2.50 and add a fresh fruit garnish and another slice of bacon (properly cooked) and it's a winner. (side note on the bacon: Hill Meat Co. bacon from Pendleton, is on par with Daily's in my opinion. Why not support the home team? If trying to do something a little different cottage bacon would be a nice option. And even though it means higher cost (which you can pass to the diner) something from Redmond Smokehouse? If we're doing the local local thing...) Hopefully this isn't too harsh or nitpicky. And know menu development and managing food costs is a whole different ball game. This is just what I'd like to see as a diner. And I know breakfast cooks are often underappreciated and generally overworked. I had a sous chef that told me once the breakfast cook always gets effed. Nobody wants to work before the sun comes up. You are literally told you can't get sick ever, because nobody is even awake to fill in for you. Nobody helps with your prep. The kitchen might be trashed from last night's dinner service. And then you get asked to help out with everyone else's prep and do a double and do a banquet that night. Good times. Upon entering the restaurant, the decor was nice, not a bad vibe to it at all. I ordered the pork belly loco Moco, I was a bit disappointed in it to say the least. The pork belly was rock hard and dried out, it would have been nice to get some good pieces. This could be better done by putting slab pork belly on the loco Moco instead of diced, which will dry out. The price I paid for that was abysmal. My wife ordered the Bolognese with gnocchi, the portion was very small, seemed like maybe 6 ounces TOTAL. Overall the flavor of the food was okay.
