It's pretty cool in the sense that on a good day, a 90-minute drive from Phoenix can make you feel…read moremuch further away than you actually are. Just don't expect a complete change of scenery. This is "high desert", which basically means it's the same old scenery, but more shrubs because it's a good 15 degrees cooler. You are not entirely escaping the summer heat, so if you're that sensitive, move further north. The campground itself is pretty boring. There's not enough open space to do much of anything but sit around and stare into the distance. It is also relatively flat, with no real hiking trails. If you like walking up tall things or participating in open-field sports like soccer and flag football, you will be disappointed. What's cool about this is the stream that flows through. It was 100 degrees out, but suddenly manageable as long as you sat next to the surprisingly cold water under plenty of shade. Walk a little bit upstream and downhill and you'll come across a shallow watering hole that appears to be the main attraction. But if you walk a good mile upstream, braving the terrible, terrible footing that is the seemingly endless off-trail pathway of large rocks, you will be rewarded. There's another large area for swimming, and the majority of campers won't bother going there. At roughly 5 1/2 feet, it's perfect swimming for just about anyone. But yeah...that's cool, but about the only thing (besides making s'mores) you'll really do here. It was cool for a one-night, one-day getaway if you want everyone in your life to leave you alone.

Clothing is optional, so if you bring children don't expect everyone will cover themselves. 18+ recommended. Hot springs are approx 1 mile upstream from campground. There are 2 different pools , one has a block wall around it. Expect to help clean the pools if there when it's time. I've had great experiences there and very negative experiences there. Honestly though 3 out of 4 times is mainly a bunch of swinging old richards that make it creepy. Respect the nature and pick up your trash either way. It's beautiful there as well.

Admittedly I had come here doing less research than I should've. I read some reviews about it being…read moreclothing optional, hippie, dirt road drive - but that was about the extent of my knowledge. I started the drive and it took more about 1-1:30 hours along the dirt road to get to the hot spring. I would've expected that this isolation from humanity would yield less people. I had taken a Tesla and this was for sure a mistake. A good amount of the road was washboarded - a result of too many vehicles and a lack of maintenance. One way to minimize this was driving toward the edges of the road. Anyway, my car was able to make it most of the way perfectly fine. But at the last 5 minutes the road got really bad - just right above the campsite. There was a sign saying that 'Nudity prohibited' - I'm guessing a result of large tourism, but nonetheless a sad statement - especially when looking at the reviews it used to be a popular for nudists. A few people choose not to abide by that government overreach, myself included. Finally, I managed to get to the bottom with a few hits against the bottom of my car. The campsite was very full. I luckily managed to find a spot next to another car. I walked along the River using the coordinates of Google maps as my guide. I found a spot where I could swim across. The hot springs was not that big and you can barely see the river directly from it. There's also a bunch of algae floating around. Had some great conversations with the locals and went back to the camp. Many cars drove in late at night parking next to me. I generally got the sentiment that there was way too much demand for this hot spring. The next day I went to the hot springs again and there were so many people that there was no space and people were standing outside for a spot - that's how busy it was. So I give this an below average rating: decently cool spot, way too busy, and not that big/poor water circulation.

But honestly, it's worth every step! Just when you think you've reached the falls... you haven't. Keep going! The road in is pure washboard -- about 13 miles of bump city -- so make sure you have a 4-wheel drive and that nothing inside your car is loose. Fossil Creek is absolutely stunning, and bonus -- no permit needed after October 1st. The other thing says this trail is easy. No, it's not to be careful if you're taking somebody elderly over that doesn't have good mobility because there's some rocks you had a climb and what not also make sure you take plenty of water to drink and a little snack everything you pack in your pack. I would also suggest leaving the house by three 330. No later you don't wanna be hiking in the pitch dark.

We had our permit that one of our husbands printed for us but since he was not in vehicle, they would not allow us to enter!! Worse than our problem were 2 women in thier turn around lot at thier gate and those 2 women were still stranded in the heat nearly 6 hours later. We the park rangers failed to relay a hugely important message to those ladies about thier spare tire being In the middle of the road 10 miles back !! Again a huge disappointment for those park employees who witnessed these women being stranded, and we feel with 3 employees and 2 trucks could have easily assisted these women or at the very least let them know where thier spare was located ! We were hugely inconvenienced by driving back several miles to pile into one car as the option they offered us, but these poor ladies we believe were clearly suffering unnecessary while not one of those employees told them where thier spare was located or possibly offered to get it for them .

Its a little less than a mile hike to a small pool of murky water, hiking along a creek. Much of it was shaded, I will post pictures. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. There was also a lot of garbage, sadly- lots of alcohol bottles and stuff. We didn't feel comfortable swimming in the water and ended up leaving and hiking elsewhere.

Full kitchen, with fridge and freezer, stove, and stove top to cook. They even have cups, plates and they give you dish soap and a sponge to clean the dishes and a drying rack. They also had wifi, tv, and everything you need!! They have a cute loft on top for the kiddos and my son absolutely loved it! They have a a dog potty area, tennis/pickle ball court, playground, pool, hot tub, splash pad area (it was not on when we were there) fire pit, an arcade area, shuffle board, pool table, and a reading area. Definitely was a great fun stay! I love that they are pet friendly as well! They also have good eatery nearby as well!

The bunk beds squeak and the ladder rattles whenever a person is on them. One turnover at night and everyone wakes up to the rattles. The door is cracked and see thru light. Most of the 8 wagons doors are cracked. The people right next door were long term there. I have been to many RV resorts and not one had full time people living there. Met some residents there that have been living there over 2 years. A group of kids (teenager and preteens) arrived in the bathrooms for showers and took 3/4 and the floors were flooded after. Drains working but the kids were wild and noisy while in shower. No reason floors flooded by toilets and sink. I was doing laundry. Dogs taken into laundry room with sign that says no dogs allowed except service dogs. These dogs were not trained service dogs. The day before checkout, The next door neighbors were dropping F bombs every few words and the adults seem to be arguing with 2 young children, 1 an infant, were crying while adults yelling. The pool water was cloudy and the tile on the pool was filthy. The splash pad was so calcified and other minerals that the yellow, red colors were white looking. Looks like maintenance is lacking there a lot. Campers don't follow rules and no one is there to enforce. We left a day early because of the language going on and neighbors. Upon check out reported this to the person at checkout. She stated they have had some issues with the people, yet they are still there. Could be a great place, but needs cleaned up and campers need to be removed if can't follow rules. That comes from management. I would not go back.

The only draw back is the pool is not heated in the winter, bd my campsite section H, the restrooms and showers have been closed due to maintenance, and it's past its finish date still being worked on til date There are other showers in other sections, but it's a ways down the road for a shower & it's cold to be commuting to and from a shower especially with wet hair. The adjacent restrooms is in the H section activity room main lodge which is great. Overall I'll definitely be back and hope the restroom maintenance will be completed by then. And if you have mail delivered to you during your stay there's a $2 charge for every piece of mail you pick up at the main office lobby. Happy camping!
