My daughter and I ordered takeout from there a few weeks ago. My meal was not correct. Hers was missing the one thing she really wanted, which was the side of the Gouda macaroni and cheese. It was also missing the sauce that you're supposed to dip your sandwich in. When you call that place you don't get a live person and it doesn't matter how many times you call because my daughter tried calling to let them know that they messed up our order. Their automatic service told my daughter that the food would be done right away basically and we were both scratching our heads thinking there's no way it would be ready right away, but she ended up going down there about 15-20 minutes later to make sure she had given them time to make it and then when she got there, she waited over half an hour for the food. It was such a horrible experience. We will not eat there again. read more

We decided to take an autumn drive to specifically stop here based on a recommendation and are so glad we did. We absolutely love to visit any brewery we can but ultimately there is one major goal for any brewery return visit we have....THE BEER! It is a brewery after all...isn't it? The beers my wife and I sampled were all very good and some better than good...the missed drinks also excellent...I had a flight that included the apple pie ale and the imperial pumpkin pie ale. The apple pie ale was excellent...not an overpowering spice but good apple and spice flavor but the ale was pronounced. The pumpkin pie ale again not the overpowering spice, hit you in the gut flavor but rather subtle which is what I prefer. The Allegheny River Fog IPA is a very good NE style IPA and would definitely recommend. We also tasted the mud puppy stout, which was very good and was the right ABV for a stout. We also tried the Broken Spoke Blueberry wheat which was good and included a few blueberries as well. The atmosphere is great, very warm and inviting and the service was EXCELLENT...everyone was so friendly. We had the special which was Southwest Chicken Eggrolls which were fantastic, and we had the Pub Mushroom Pizza which was also excellent...the large brick oven pretzel was very good with just one note...be thoughtful of the sauce you choose because the pretzel comes with a caramel drizzle on it so some of the sauces do not go well...maybe choose something like the honey mustard..sweet. Definitely recommend trying this place especially if you are a beer forward person. Cheers! read more

We have become fond of this wonderful brewery and restaurant. They have a second venue also. Get the wood fired pretzel to start. Ya they have a wood fired oven !!! Excellent service, very attentive. Every time we visit (not often enough) it is wonderful. My husband wears hearing aids, so sometimes the noice bothers him, but we just adjust. The French onion soup is flavorful and hot. And the rustic melt is perfect! Highly recommend. read more

Stopped by Trails to Ales on our way home from camping and left very satisfied! We started off with beers including their award winning Broken Spoke blueberry beer and a seasonal apple pie beer with a caramel sugar ring. Both were delicious!! I highly recommend the Broken Spoke if you like a light, fruity, refreshing beer. We then got a burger and a brisket sandwich, both of which were huge and hearty. I highly recommend the side of fries, which were hot and crispy. Cheese and sauce cost extra on the burger, so keep that in mind. Definitely a great spot for a bite and a drink if you live in the area! read more

Horrendously slow. Typically on the slower side (45 minutes or so), but waiting for one hour and thirty minutes. Waitress virtually disappeared. Food is typically good but didn't even get it today. EDIT from 1 star to 3 stars. They comped our entire bill, including the drinks, and boxed our food to go. Waitress was friendly but likely too many tables, so feel sympathetic. We stopped in for lunch around 12:30 on a weekday afternoon. We had our choice of seating and a friendly server quickly brought lunch menus. We ordered the chicken tenders w/coleslaw, the italian hoagie, also with coleslaw, and a cup of the french onion soup; plus a couple of beers. The chicken tenders and the sandwich were just ok. The soup was miss-named; not a classic French soup, with their stout being added to the soup base and italian herbs abundantly on top of the cheese (which wasn't gruyere). Proportionally, there was too much cheese for the small cup of soup, it was drowning the bread underneath. Plus, the onions were cut different sizes and some were "al dente"! The beers were ok. Our lunch was ok; service was fine, but the food let us down. We returned a couple of evenings later to give them another chance. The place was packed, we snagged the last table at the rear. There was a female musician playing at the front. No idea if she was any good, the ambient sound was so loud we couldn't really hear the lyrics, just parts of the melody (making any conversation difficult). Our server came quickly, presented menus and got our beer order. When she brought the beer, she took our food order, which also arrived shortly thereafter. We had a cup of the "soup du jour" and the "little trail" burgers (2/order). The soup was edible. Our server did ask what cheese we wanted on the burgers (which was nice, the menu stated they came with American cheese). Our error in not requesting how the burgers be cooked; they came grey/well-done, but did come with fries (also not mentioned on the menu). Window seat cannot be beat! Service was a bit slow but with the Applefest going on, it was expected. I only ordered a hard seltzer and a pretzel but the people watching was on point! Great location, great atmosphere. My blueberry cider was perfect, not too sweet, not too tart. There were two different types of pretzels, I think the menu could have been more descriptive. One was a Fried Pub Pretzel and the other was Wood Fired. I asked the waitress for the difference and her only explanation was that the Wood Fired one was really popular - that's the one I went with. The dough was soft and tender but I didn't like it, it had like a sweet glaze on it that was weird with the beer cheese it was served with. Worth the stop Also worth noting the pickle chips have a seasoned breading and were fried nice and crispy with a slightly thicker pickle. Excellent crunch to pickle ratio. Had a couple of their ales they were excellent! The railroad red was exceptional. Full of flavor, not too heavy or too light for a red ale. I had the cup of French onion soup and bourbon barrel steak salad. The soup had a good broth flavor and an appropriate amount of cheese and bread. I would have liked more broth, but over all it was good! The salad looked and tasted good. The steak was not chewy, but it was room temperature which was a bit disappointing. Portions were perfect for me, maybe a little small compared to some other places, but not a problem at all. Service was good. read more

My wife and I visited Trails to Ales for dinner last night. Let me start by saying that our server, Peyton, was, as usual, outstanding! Our meal was, however, quite unpleasant - one of the owners and several of his buddies were sitting at the bar talking so loudly that my wife and I could barely hold a civilized conversation, nor could we hear the delightful singer who was performing at the front. What was worse, they were amazingly profane, we must have heard the word f**k every 15 to 30 seconds. While they were at the bar, it's a small space with only a narrow aisle between the bar and the tables. As much as we like Peyton, and a number of the young college students who work there during the summer, we will not be returning to Trails to Ales anytime soon, and we will certainly never recommend it to anyone. read more

Fantastic pizzas, sandwiches and drinks for a late lunch after a day kayaking on the river last August. The Wood Fired Pretzels, Dill Pickle cheddar pizza and Wild Mushroom-blue cheese pizza still have us talking and strategizing our next visit, and we enjoyed sampling their signature brews and hard seltzers. Wonderful surprise. Great food and EXCELLENT service. We were traveling to pick up my daughter in college and had time for a short side trip and looked this place up on Google. Initially we parked right outside of what we thought was the place - as it turns out they have two location (we were at Trails to Ales II). We finally got to the right one and I cannot recommend this place enough. This was our first time in Franklin, a really neat little town with a lot of history and our first time at this place. The only downside was when we showed up to Trails to ALes II, there were some people in this HUGE establishment that looked at us funny, asked why we were there, and said they don't open until 4pm. Walked out staring at the Google page that said "Open". Keep in mind, we had no idea we weren't at "the" place. What are the odds of there being two? (If you're looking for a unique name like Trails to Ales...seeing a "II" in small letters on the sign didn't indicate we were wrong). Google said "open". Woulda been nice being newbies if someone said "Hey, we do have our other location open now........". But honestly, that was a blip on the radar for a great experience. read more

Beat food in town! Every time we stop here I am left full, happy, and wanting more (but left with no room for more). There are so many mouth watering menu items we have to alternate what we get each time excluding the Mac and cheese (that is an every stop must have). The service is fast and friendly just like you expect from a small town restaurant. There is always an upbeat and lively bunch in here that makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
