Melanie's profile caught my eye on the website of Bakar fitness. I have always been on the petite side naturally and one of my goals was to be able to gain muscle and be strong. I never thought it was possible for me to be very strong being a 5'3 and naturally skinny person. Melanie definitely proved me wrong! My proudest moment was when I was able to deadlift 185lbs (I was myself 107lbs). While the number of pounds gained/lost definitely shows progress and reflects great milestones in one's personal health journey, training with Melanie has helped me look at health beyond numbers. Training with Melanie has had cascading positive effects in my life. I have become more disciplined when it comes to my health which in turn has improved my diet, reduced my anxiety, helped with my insomnia. Melanie is definitely unique in her approach. I have had several trainers where training means 1 hour of working out with them every week. Melanie is not your average trainer. She cares deeply about her clients and goes above and beyond for them. Outside of our 1 hour of training, to give an example of how Melanie came through as a coach for me - She gave me a nutritional program and kept me accountable. I broke my wrist from a bike ride; Mel helped me train my lower body in isolation for multiple months which helped me stay healthy physically and emotionally. I also had a shoulder surgery from a sports injury. I experienced a lot of atrophy and stiffness after the surgery. Melanie has supported me over the last 2 years to build back my strength and range of motion. I can do pull ups again! I have gained a lot of strength and muscle with her programs. Melanie is not a trainer that just cares about the number of pounds dropped/gained or to just get you high numbers for squats or deadlifts. She is very cognizant of injuries, she puts a lot of focus on conditioning and stretching and taking care of your body like it is a temple.She is extremely educated about anatomy. These qualities differentiates Melanie's programs from just another personal training experience. People often think having a personal trainer is not worth the money. Why pay someone when you can google exercises/programs. Having done my share of googling programs and investing in a personal trainer like Melanie, I can definitely say I am better off with Melanie. I look at health differently now and investing in having an expert like Melanie has definitely been the right choice and the returns have been more than worth it.

I was having back and nerve pain and I hadn't done a triathlon or run in eons, couldn't do a push-up and didn't exercise regularly. After working with Coach Melanie I strength train consistently ( super important for us all!), completed the sprint distance Honolulu triathlon, a couple of 10k's and few metric century rides and am on my way to more! The staff and management who I spoke to at the desk were all incredibly friendly and kind. The only TRUE negative for me is that while I've got a broken arm, I can only do cardio. And they don't have ARC trainers at this location. They also have Matrix equipment, which I don't like. My home PF has Life Fitness and I like and prefer those machines. But it's got all you need, like all the PF locations, and it's CLEAN!!!

3 months ago, I challenged myself to do something totally crazy - attempt something no one who…read moreknows me would expect - something that, quite frankly, seemed scary to me. I got a personal trainer. With two little ones, I decided it's time I get healthier. But, what do I know about fitness?! From day 1 - I was put at ease by Nick. He met with me, talked to me about my goals and discussed what sort of options were available to me. He never once made me feel like it was a hard sell - more, he was here to answer my questions and encourage me. Most importantly, he assured me that this wasn't going to be something that was going to drive me away. The team was going to work with me at my pace. I decided I'd go three mornings a week - totally crazy, right?! Now, I work with Vince three early mornings a week. Vince is awesome! He's fun to work with, super knowledgeable - always taking the time to explain things to me. And, most importantly, he's encouraging. I'm nowhere NEAR as advanced as some of the people I see, but Vince makes me feel like I have a place there. Just a few months ago, I would have NEVER thought you'd EVER find me in a gym. Now, I look forward to going!

When I first met Grant, I had severe knee pain and high blood pressure. During my time with Grant my blood pressure has lowered by a substantial amount which has allowed me to discontinue my daily medications. My knee pain has improved to the point where I can now climb stairs normally, and I am pain free on most days. I have lost 24 pounds in 3 months. He is a caring, cheerful, professional. He explains that my workout is different from any of his other clients because of my fitness level. My workout has been tailored for me. He coaches me on nutrition, fitness, wellness, and overall health. After several bad experiences with personal trainers, I was determined that I was only going to use the first three sessions offered by Boom Fitness to learn how to use the exercise machines properly and be done. After the tour, he asked me if I was interested in an appointment with a personal trainer to get a body scan/talk about my fitness goals; I was not so I declined, he pushed, I declined again, he pushed further so I agreed to the 10$ appointment. I later called to cancel this appointment because I felt badgered into saying yes. The charge is, of course, not refundable. This was odd to me because I assumed I was talking to the manger, he certainly can make an exception? Right? I had the appointment scheduled for less than 24 hours...also...it's 10$... The facilities, 3:30 on a Friday, were "okay". All but one of the stalls in the ladies bathroom were unflushed and toilet paper strewn about the floor... yuck :/ not to mention the treadmills had ground-in dirt/crumbs. Unfortunately, based on other reviews, it seems like my experience is not too far off from many others. I feel a bit "trapped" by my membership now, knowing that cancellations and refunds are probably out of the question for them. I will most likely continue to go, but if they are trying to build a community here, they are severely missing the mark. I would like to be treated like more than a checkbook to this gym. Hopefully they take these reviews seriously.

When I joined, I opted for the highest level of membership, and paid annually to simplify and save money. My member ship being 2 days from expiring, I went in to renew. I was informed that my grandfathered rate was no longer being honored by the new ownership, and the rate was increased by 80%. This is bad enough, but they have actually decreased benefits since taking over. Over the years, I've brought in multiple other members, including my wife, neighbors, and customers. After this last interaction, I can not in good faith recommend them to anyone.

We decided to throw his birthday there today, and boy was it not what we expected. When we first get there we are greeted with the lead for our event. He was thorough in his explanation of the details but only gave us 10 minutes to set up, and really didn't care whether we got done or not, just as long as he got his list out of things that he needed to say out. During the party he told us that he would get the kids at the table to eat with 30 minutes to spare. After they were all forced to clean up and wash their hands, that left 20 minutes to eat and do cake. With 15 minutes left, he then announces to the entire group (us, the kids, and our guests) that we had to be out of the space and cleaned up in 15 minutes. He then proceeded to announce that loudly every five minutes. We tried to get the kids to eat quickly and do cake, but everyone knows that it takes a while to get them to finish eating. With 5 minutes left he proceeds to walk into the middle of the eating area and tell us we have to be out in 5 minutes while he actively took down our table set ups. At this point us and the guests were beyond uncomfortable and started awkwardly rushing to throw anything we could into the boxes we brought. Every guest was helping and trying to get out. With 3 minutes left he did the most unprofessional thing thus far. Our autistic daughter was the only one left at the cleared table, eating the last few bites of her cake. He made her get up and told her she had to be done and then PULLED THE TABLECLOTH OFF OF THE TABLE! I was so upset and blown away at how rude he was being, especially to the kids. He then walked over to the second table and proceeded to pull the cloth off while three boys were finishing their cake. I finally had enough and told him I would clear it (mind you, our time wasn't up). Then he looked at the boys when I was still cleaning up and sternly said "you guys have to put on your shoes now!" And for his final act, he proceeded to fold the chairs and turned on the vacuum while the guests were putting on their shoes in the front area! We couldn't even say goodbye to anyone because of how loud it was. Everyone at the party was in shock at how harsh he was being. He ABSOLUTELY ruined the party and we were mortified in front of our guests. I got in the car and started crying. Before anyone thinks, well there must have been another party....There wasn't. By the time I drove away after crying, it had been 10 minutes and the place was empty besides the employees. They just wanted us out at exactly the time and didn't care about giving us even an extra minute to clean up. By the way, we would have been happy to pay for extra time to clean up. We have three kids and have thrown many parties. This, by far, was the WORST experience we have ever had. I even texted my guests after to apologize for the situation. The sad part is we were thinking of putting our son in regular classes, and definitely returning for summer camp. That will never happen now. They lost us as customers and all of our guests that had sons interested in classes as well. I highly do not recommend throwing your kids party there EVER!

If you're looking at both Skyhook and Revolution trying to decide, the main difference for kids is Revolution is more "chill" - there's less noise, color, flashy equipment. There's also more "groupings" for age ranges, so the little kids don't end up with the big kids. This was perfect for us.

We went on a sunny day and it wasn't over crowded. -1 star for personal reasons: my daughter is young (19 mo) and was able to swing on the baby seat swing, however, she was not confident to try the older play structure. The structure seems more appropriate for 2.5 and older. It has a pretty cool rock climber for older kids. My experience makes me wonder if there are parks in Portland that are more inclusive for all children and their abilities? I hope that Portland Parks and Recreation would be willing to rethink how they can be more inclusive when designing a park. I will be the first to admit I know nothing about building a park, but If I did I would want everyone to feel included.

Plus walking paths through several acres of rolling hills with wonderful views immersed in nature. The splash pads are open again (until 7pm) and the kids were certainly joying them. The play structures are both stunning and interactive, even a look-out tower with a telescope that views a constellation ceiling. Very cool. Slides, step rocks, climbing structures, picnic tables in the open and shade, lots of benches, even water bowls for dogs - clearly a lot of thought went into the design and build of Spring Garden Park. It's close to Multnomah Village which is how I discovered it after visiting the food truck area and wanting someplace serene to enjoy my meal. Park right on SW Spring, just be mindful of not blocking the neighbors driveways as it's in a residential area. Close to SW Barbur.

Jason has been great to work out with. He has been flexible and travels with everything you need. Pushes me just hard enough without making me feel weak. At one point in my life I was extremely fit, but 2 kids and several years without the gym took its toll. I was fortunate to see the gym expand into a larger space during my time there, and the expansion made a huge difference. The equipment is all in great shape, the gym is super clean, and the location is in one of the best neighborhoods in the downtown area. Having been laid up caused my back to weaken which has always suffered from a high school injury. Chiropractors helped, but the real gains were in core strengthening and mobility work with Vincent Parks. Vince coupled his personal training skills with his keen awareness of how energy flows, and it worked. As a follow up to this experience, I returned to see Vince again after a car accident and shoulder injury in 2014. My experience was the same. Keep in mind, I went to physical therapy on the insurance for 9 months. It wasn't nearly as useful. Vince takes the approach of a team mate. We work together to solve the issues that I want to work on. And everything is easier as a team. Thanks Vincent Parks!

My clothes started fitting better and my body got a lot less flabby because of the muscle I was building. Dustin is super supportive and pushes you hard to do your best. That way, what happened to me did not happen to other ClassPass members. Also, you just insulted ClassPass members by implying that they are NOT serious about their workouts because as you posted, ". . . we [Rogue Training Garage] are a serious facility . . ." which translates that gyms participating in ClassPass are NOT serious facilities. I think, I was pretty damn serious when I had to wake up at 4:50 AM and made it in front of your gym at 5:43 AM for a 6 AM class. =)

I've never felt pushed beyond what's safe, but I'm always challenged. On top of the strength gains, I've gotten a lot of compliments about looking fitter and leaner, which has been a nice bonus! My husband and I train with Devin and our training and diet is uniquely tailored and I appreciate the flexibility and modifications Devin offers. Devin is constantly challenging us, educating us and teaching us new techniques. When we are not training with Devin, we have access to the gym to train on our own and follow the workout plan created for us.
