We had a wonderful stay at the Burrus House Inn! It's within easy walking distance to the heart of historic Manteo, making it the perfect location to explore the shops, restaurants, and Roanoke Island Festival Park. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, spacious, and elegant. Each morning we enjoyed delicious coffee along with a wonderful selection of sweet and savory pastries. The afternoon cocktail hour was a special touch and a great way to relax after a day of exploring. A special feature is the deep-water dock, which allows you to pull your boat right up to the inn. There are also kayaks, paddle boards and bicycles for guests to enjoy. We rode bikes to the park and all around downtown. Inside, there are comfortable sitting areas perfect for relaxing, reading, or playing games. The Burrus House is peaceful, quiet, and exceptionally welcoming. If you're looking for a charming place to stay in Manteo with outstanding amenities and hospitality, I highly recommend the Burrus House Inn. We can't wait to come back! read more

Another wonderful stay at the Burrus House Inn! The hostess was wonderful and kept us apprised of the room availability (which was early) via text. Also provided were some really wonderful places to eat within walking distance. Those recommendations did not disappoint. We had the two bedroom one bath room. It was very nicely appointed and had all of the creature comforts of home. Lots of wonderful views of the sound. The bedding is just like what we have! Lots to do on Manteo...dolphin watching, city center shopping, the aquarium, etc. Bicycles and canoes are available on site. The nice thing is you get the outer banks experience nearby without the usual crowds, amusement park attractions, and stores. Manteo is centrally located in the OBX which makes the Burrus House Inn an ideal place to stay. Great price for such a nice place...and best of all, no kids under the age of 16 allowed which makes for a nice romantic getaway! read more

I booked The Burrus House Inn about a month prior to arrival for my husbands birthday. I called a week prior to check on a few things and all was well. The night before we left, I was checking a link in my confirmation email and was informed that the reservation was cancelled. I was after hours and when I called the inn, but the inn keeper called me right back and sorted things out! We arrived at the charming Burrus House Inn the next day. Upon check in we were informed that we were upgraded to make up for the cancellation fiasco.... Um yes please! The room was amazingly huge and to top it off it had its own private balcony! They have continental breakfast served each morning and serve happy hour with wine and charcuterie from 4-6 each evening, which is a great bonus! Also if you are looking for a special dessert during your stay, they have a chocolate cake that is to DIE for!! They went above and beyond to make our stay special, so thank you! We really enjoyed our stay at Burrus House Inn and will visit again! read more

Amazing B&B, great staff, wonderful rooms and absolutely gorgeous views! We stayed in room 304 and we woke every morning to beautiful sunrises and enjoyed a beverage in the evenings. The whole place was so clean and there wasn't a person - either the innkeeper Vickie, Donnamae or SB (does the massages) that were not the most friendly and knowledgeable people. We also had live music one evening during happy hour. We will definitely be back again! read more

The BEST spot to stay in the OBX!! They recently installed an elevator (which is great if you're staying on the 3rd floor and have lots of luggage OR anyone with handicap requirements). I have been frequenting this Inn for years now and every time I go back, there's something new! Something that makes me feel even MORE spoiled than my last visit. Last time I was able to go to their wine cellar and select a bottle of Orwin Swift wine (one of my favorite wine makers) - what a treat! Their selection of adult beverages is outstanding - you don't even have to make a "beer run" (ha)! Local baked goods are provided in the morning with wonderful coffee! The beds are SO comfy and the sheets are sooooooo soft. They have excellent pillows too! The firepit in the backyard will have you feeling cozy in the fall and winter. I just cant say enough good things about this place! read more

What a wonderful Inn right on the water in Manteo. The renovations are wonderful and I look forward to the other updates to come. The complimentary kayaks, paddleboards and bikes were a hit with my family. Beautiful views, a delicious continental breakfast and convenient to everything in Manteo, Nags Head and all of the Outer Banks. We will be back in August for a longer stay and to see the Lost Colony...only a five minute drive away. We can't wait to visit the Inn at Manteo again soon! read more

This place is a salty gem, and it is truly a great getaway. I don't even know where to start...we got married at Burrus House Inn a couple weeks ago and it was absolute perfection. We got engaged almost 3 years ago, but between life and then a pandemic, no real plans were made. About 3 months ago, I was browsing OBX venues for fun & stumbled across Burrus House. After literally no planning for years, we emailed Vicki and signed a contract within a few days without even seeing it in person. When we did go to visit, it lived up to every expectation and more. The staff at the inn are some of the nicest, most laid back, wonderful people. From Vicki building an arch in time for the wedding to grabbing an extra cooler the day before the wedding to Donna Mae putting together the most unique and beautiful last minute flower arrangements for a couple forgotten tables, I was blown away. We were very lucky and had the best weather...no wind, a perfect sunset backdrop for pictures and a then beautiful moon. That, mixed in with the ambiance of overhead string lights and fire pit made for the wedding fairy tales are made of. We rented out the entire inn for our family & friends to stay after the wedding which was the best decision & something our guests are still talking about it. Being able to hang out and walk upstairs to your amazing water view suite was the icing on the cake to end an incredible day. The rooms are all unique, huge, and so charming. The girls got ready in a 2 bedroom suite while the guys took out the inn's kayak's & paddleboards on the sound. We've only seen sneak peek photos from our photographer, but they are just beautiful in large part thanks to the backdrop of the inn. I cannot wait to go back & stay at the inn when I have more time to enjoy everything it has to offer. I cannot recommend Burrus House enough whether for an event or just a night away. What a gem tucked away in Manteo! This place is like a well-kept secret, I almost don't want to share widely how great it is. It's warm, cozy, friendly, and has a lot of character. The staff are very friendly and accommodating to whatever your needs are. It has a beautiful view of the sound, with downtown Manteo in the distance. It's centrally located, so you can walk into town or take a 10min trip over to the beach. Reasonably priced for how nice the accommodations and service are. Rooms are spacious and clean. The Burrus House Inn is beautiful. We recently stayed for 4 nights and although we had a wonderful time touring the area the we have some criticism of the Inn. First of all the breakfast we repetitive and lacked variety. Same pastries day after day. The room service was non existent. It would have been nice to have the room refreshed daily as the he brochure stated this would occur but it did not. The toiletries in the room were cheap and terribly small amounts. The shelving in the bathroom was quite deficient as was the lighting. However, the bed was very comfortable. Management was lax and often not available. Check your reservations before you go as one couple in our party had their reserved suite given away to another couple just one week prior to our arrival. This screw up caused a hardship for a handicapped person who had to climb up 3 sets of stairs to their room. A cheese tray hardly made up for the inconvenience. read more

What a fabulous weekend! My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend celebrating our anniversary at the lovely Inn at Manteo. Considering our first child is due in just a few weeks we weren't able to take advantage of the kayaks (will be checking those out next time) but instead just wanted a low-key relaxing weekend out of town for a few days and the Inn at Manteo certainly delivered! Its location was perfect, the views were breathtaking and the room was amazing. All of the upgrades that have been done recently really gave everything a breathe of fresh air. The inn keeper, Vicki was welcoming, friendly and super helpful. The location was perfect, we caught a friend of ours, Ashley Robinson's show in downtown Manteo one night and in nags head the next. The drive to the beach was just a short drive over the bridge and the inn provided everything we needed for our stay. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend and we will certainly be back! read more

If you are coming to the Outer Banks, STAY HERE. This place is amazing, room was beautiful and upscale, the location was really just perfect, there was a mini fridge, microwave, two person Jacuzzi two sinks, TWO shower heads, (Reba Irlene room, can't speak for the others) privacy peace and quiet. WiFi was a little weak, but not unbearable, also the hostess let me plug in my chevy volt to charge. Wonderful stay. This is the only place I will stay in the OBX. read more

My husband and I spent three nights at Burrus House during the start of our trip through the Outer Banks. The check in was easy and the room very clean and spacious. We had a large bedroom and private sitting room and updated bathroom. There was also a really nice shared sitting room adjacent with windows all around with view of the water. The owners are putting in an elevator which will make it easier to access the third floor rooms where we were located. Not sure when that will be completed. Vicki wasn't always at the front desk but we were able to reach her by phone and text so that worked out without issue. We had one noise problem that she handled for us right away. All in all we enjoyed our three nights and would stay again if on Roanoke Island. read more

The pictures for this place are good but don't do the view justice. Our room was ready when we got there and the receptionist was awesome she had plenty of places to recommend super friendly and didn't rush us. We had the Amelia Rose room number 1, king size bed and a two person Jacuzzi. We had a back porch, a side porch and there were places on the water where we could sit and watch the sunrise. Beautiful wood furniture well kept right on the water. We would stay here again definitely. read more

While the view was beautiful, the service left much to be desired. We had a scheduled check in time of 7:30pm and arrived about 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Since we had a prescheduled time we thought there would be someone at the desk, but no, we had to call the number posted on the check in counter. The person who answered (we assume the innkeeper) told us that she thought housekeeping was still there and would call that person to show us to our room. There was a bit of confusion on the housekeeper's part but we were finally shown to our room while listening to the housekeeper explain that she wasn't even supposed to be there working due to her current physical state. Upon entering the room we realized there were no towels or coffee in the room. The housekeeper came back with one towel, a washcloth and what we thought was a bath mat for two people. She said she couldn't find any coffee and that our stack of "towels" was all she could find. She also told us we could look around the office downstairs for more towels and coffee. After housekeeping left, we pulled out the stack of "towels" to hang them in the bathroom only to find that they were stained and unclean looking. And our bath mat? Turns out it was actually a pillow sham. We went downstairs upon advice from the housekeeper and couldn't find any coffe or more towels so we left a written message at the desk. Thankfully we had beach towels in our trunk! We sat up for awhile expecting that when the innkeeper arrived (supposedly she was on the way) we would get a call or a visit with towels and coffee. Well, we had to sit in semi darkness. The overhead light in both the sitting area and the bedroom did not work and neither did either of the fireplaces. Eventually we decided to go to bed. Restful sleep? No....the poor mattress was so bowed in the middle that we felt like we were rolling into each other all night. Plus every time we would make the slightest movement in the bed it would squeak to such a degree that it was almost embarrassing. (I feel sorry for the people that were in the room under us!) With the interrupted sleep we were up very early (before 5am) and went downstairs again in search of coffe and towels. We found a set of towels but had to walk up to McDonalds (right next door) to get coffee. We know the innkeeper saw our note as it was no longer where we left it the night before. When we took the towels (and our McDonalds coffee) upstairs we realized that these towels weren't much better than the first "set" so we ended up using our own towels. Upon our departure we did the normal "once over" to make sure we didn't leave anything behind. We looked around and saw that the only smoke detector had been removed from the room. We passed the desk on our way out the door and again, there wasn't anyone at the desk. Lesson learned from the Burris House.....bring your own towels, bring your own coffee and pray there isn't a fire. We won't stay here again. read more

My stay at the Burrus House was the most horrible experience that I've ever had in my life. My husband and I travel all over the country and the world and we have never been treated with such disrespect and deception. My husband and I have a registered service animal that was traveling with us. We were approached by Vicki and asked if we had a dog with us. We said yes and it's a registered service animal. She immediately said "Well what does it do?" She then told us that there was a wedding that was going to be taking place later that day. Since the heat index was 122 degrees that day and since the wedding party had older guests she asked us if we would mind accommodating the wedding party by moving to another hotel that she would pay for. It didn't make sense to us how our staying at the Burrus House would effect the wedding that was being moved inside to accommodate older guests because we were staying on the 4th floor and there aren't any elevators so if the older guests needed a room they'd have to climb 4 flights of stairs in the 122 heat index. At the same time we sensed some discrimination due to our service animal as the Burrus House typically does not allow animals, however the Americans with Disabilities Act requires hotels to allow animals when they prescribed and registered. But since my husband and I were recently married and understand the stress that comes along with weddings, we agreed to change hotels to accommodate the wedding party. Vicki's promises of reimbursement for the 2 nights that we had already paid for and for the next hotel we moved to to help her out were not fulfilled. Our visit to the Burrus House was June 2010 and it's now October 2010 and my phone calls have not been returned and my credit card company can not help me with my dispute since. My dispute can't be resolved by my credit card company because instead of Vicki paying for my room at the hotel we moved to for her, she made us pay with our credit card. However, the hotel we moved to didn't accept American Express. Since we paid the Burrus House with American Express and the next hotel with a Visa, my claim has no stake with the new hotel and Vicki apparently is not legally bound to her promises. I wouldn't recommend the service at this B&B to anyone. Not only do I feel that we were forced out due to our service animal and discriminated against Vicki was completely untruthful and unresponsive to my repeated follow-up for my refund that was promised to me. read more
