Worst in 20 years! Unfriendly front desk, hard to locate the room "all the way in the back and did not say it was 2nd floor". Parking area of cracked concrete and grass patches. Dirty stairs and "back stairs" were peeling paint and rotting. Room was "shoddy" at best, cave like with only a small dormer window that was so dirty it was disgusting. Room had a strong "chemical smell" and was "decorated in early yard sale/thrift store" furniture. Coffee maker (1 leg broken off) still had previous occupant's coffee filter and grounds and there was no fresh coffee packs in the room. The bed was so uncomfortable that we did not get much sleep and the sheets were so thin you could read a book through them. We could not stand to spend another night so checked out early. One of the most disgusting hotel experiences in my 40 years of travel. This place is a disgrace to the Wyndham franchise which is why it was selected in the first place. Wyndham is on my NO STAY list for ever after this experience. read more

I have to say: 1- The room was clean but had a funny odor. 2- The Wi-fi did not work from 5:30PM to 12:30 AM. AT 12:30 am I called the front desk from my cell phone because I kept having problems with the login and the phone in our room did not work. Very frustrating. They told me the Wi-fi was out. 3-I let the staff know that the lock on my door did not engage so we felt a little unsafe. 4- It would be nice if you put a sign up on the mirror that shows where to turn it on. I had to go to the front desk and ask and while I was there another guy said, yep couldn't figure it our. It is in the middle of the mirror. 5-Large stain on ceiling. 6-Could use another hook for the towel in the bathroom. Only one hook to hang a towel is not helpful when you have two people and you want us to reuse your towels. Otherwise stay was pleasant, bed comfortable. I was disappointed that they didn't offer me a ten percent discount for not having Wi-Fi, a working phone, and a lock that did not LOCK. June 2025 read more

Loved our stay here. It's obvious a place that's been here a while, but it appears to have undergone a fairly recent remodel. The lobby is really nice. The room we had was nice and clean. Let me share one caveat: I'm relegated to a power chair, and the room we had wasn't great in regard to that. However, it wasn't specifically a handicapped room. In fact, it doesn't appear that they have such rooms available. Understand, that's not a complaint! We weren't expecting an accessible room. Just be advised that if you're in a chair, this might not be the best place for you. Meanwhile, if mobility isn't an issue, this is a nice place to stay in the awesome town of Manteo. We walked/rolled down to the waterfront, and is was really nice. The hotel also features an attached restaurant that is very good. I give this hotel my hearty recommendation. read more

This is the absolute worse 'motel' I have ever seen. First of all, it is not a hotel; it is a motel. It is dirty. I booked a room for a family wedding weekend for a queen bed and to be handicapped accessible. The room they put us in is a double bed with a 5 inch step up to get into the room. Not good for my husband who is in a scooter. They would not try to accommodate us, claiming they are fully booked. There were several in the guest party that had not checked in, so I know they had other rooms that could accommodate us better. The man at the front desk (EJ or something like that) got smart and basically said 'you can check out and go to another hotel'. This is a late review. We were here for 6 days (10/30-11/4) for a wedding and stayed a few days after just to explore the area. So, yes this place does look like its been here for awhile and maybe even acquired by the Wyndham hotels. Our room and our stay was great. Yes, it is not a fancy establishment nor did it have room service or daily room cleanings unless you asked. However, the ladies at the front desk were friendly and fabulous, as were the cleaning staff who we bothered every chance we got just to change out towels and take out trash in the mornings when we saw them in the hallways, they were very accommodating to our needs. The room itself was roomy enough for 2 people. Loved the king bed. Didn't have a closet but did have a clothes rack/organizer thing to hang clothes. It worked for what hanging clothes we had. The toilet and shower were in it's own little room while the sink was outside of this area. The mirror was a bit fancy. The light would brighten and dim depending if you were looking at it (you can disable this feature). Everything worked as it was intended. It did have a very small frigerator where we kept our waters. We didn't use the keurig in the room but we did use the one down in the lobby area. We enjoyed our stay. It was our home away from home. Absolutely terrible! One of the worst experiences I have ever had traveling. To start with, the hotel looks nothing like their website. I found out I was not in the main building, but in another near the pool. I was fine with that, but when I went to the pool it was filthy! There were leaves in it and a beach towel! Won't eat at the hotel restaurant either, horrible reviews! My room was mediocre at best. For the price, not very impressive and I requested a single queen bedroom, not this extended stay one. But being that they put me in it, there's hardly any cookware or utensils to make a meal. Also, there's only 1 ice machine for the entire hotel, how stupid! Whoever owns this hotel is a cheap bum! The entire property looks run down and in disrepair. The GM is a bunch of laughs, this guy can't even dress or act professionally. Every time I saw him he was covered in dirt and filth and wearing a t-shirt. Apparently, he was helping with construction, even though apparently the hotel is owned by a local construction company, ridiculous! As if this all wasn't bad enough, I was overcharged for my 2-night stay. I was originally quoted $318 by Hotels.com. When I got there I was told that I'd only be charged $50 for " Incidentals", and then the remaining balance when I checked out. Yet 1 day into my stay, I'm charged for more than that. I was told it was refunded, but my bank told me they reversed it. When I brought it to the attention of the staff the next day, their useless, rude night audit manager wanted to argue with me, instead of trying to fix the problem....real great customer service....Upon check out, their useless GM tried to argue with me about the charges, saying "they'd disappear". Room was clean and beds are comfortable. They allowed us to bring our 3rd dog and charged the $50 per dog per stay, which was fair. They placed us in the back building facing a courtyard on the 1st floor which made taking our dogs out convenient. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The main building looked really nicely renovated while the other buildings looked like they still needed to be renovated on the outside. Landscaping seemed to need some updating and the pool was covered for the season but the top had a build up of standing water and dry leaves. Location was central to everything we needed. We love this area but would love to stay somewhere nicer next time. read more

One night stay. I think we paid $110. Staff was very friendly. Lobby was clean and large. Our room smelled impeccably clean. Beds were comfortable. We had a fridge, microwave and cooktop - did not use but that area was very clean. During the night we heard odd noises coming from the bathroom - like a knocking from the pipes at a cadence throughout the night. We were too exhausted to ask the front desk to move rooms. Cannot recommend this motel. The only good things were comfortable beds and a convenient location. The entry door stuck badly. The room always smelled musty even though a dehumidifier was running the whole time (Which I emptied myself every few hours). There were spots of mold or mildew on the wall. Corners in bathroom didn't look clean. There were no chairs, table, or desk, just beds and a dresser. Bathroom was tiny, door wouldn't close. Only one small towel rod, so towels wouldn't dry. Bathroom fan, AC, and dehumidifier were very noisy. Bathtub was stained. The only sink was a small bar sink in a kitchen counter, no vanity or normal sink. No Internet access most of the time. No housekeeping in our room and a pile of dirty laundry was on a walkway overnight. This is not as described in their website and I'm amazed Wyndham even claims it. read more

This motel was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in, and I've stayed in quite a few dingers. The listing was 'hotel Manteo, Trademark collection by Wyndham'. This is NOT a hotel. It's a motel. Very very different. Motels have access directly to the parking lot which in this case may want to re-think their branding as it's easy access to escape from this extremely run down and smelly motel. I remember Wyndham as being a decent place to stay. It was never resort style or even fancy, but you used to be able to rely on them for a clean room. I paid the extra fee to stay with my dog while visiting the area to see my grand-daughter. I have been to the OBC before, so I had a rough idea what to expect. This was not it. When I walked into the room they gave me, I noticed a chemical smell right away. Not a cleaning chemical smell, more like they just released a roach bomb chemical smell. It's not very pleasant to have to stay the night. When I checked the bed for bugs, there was no fitted sheet. At all. Just a flat sheet laid on top of the mattress. It wasn't even folded in! So of course, it was messy & the mattress was right there. I guess it was easy to check for any bugs but not something you want to see in a place you are staying in. I am far removed from my college days. I know when I book a place that accepts pets that the rooms will have a bit of a worn look to them. This was not that. There were obvious stains on the doors, and the floor was very sticky. I had to make sure that I always wore my shoes because why would the floor be sticky? I also understand that OBC has a very limited sewer access system, and they all try to keep it from blockages because of possible storms, however, the toilet paper that this place uses are so thin you can see thru it. This was especially difficult as there are no tissues in the room and for those who suffer from allergies, it's a must have. I paid a lot of money for a single night stay in this place, and I feel as though I was completely ripped off. It's just sad to me that there are all these places on the beach that should be a lot nicer than they are. Apparently, they are only in existence to make money for the owners nothing else. I miss the days when a hotel/motel actually cared about making themselves comfortable and clean for their guests. Where they cared more about making your stay noteworthy than making a quick buck or used as a tax write-off. I would say stay somewhere else. read more

Worst stay ever. Do not get fooled by 3.5 star ratings or the pictures of the hotel rooms in the website. We booked for 2 nights Aug 19th and 20th through Hotwire.com which listed this so called hotel as 3.5 stars. We were given room 405 which was all the way in the back of the hotel. The room was in the 1st floor and smelled of cigarettes and also the microwave and refrigerator were not working. We asked for a change of room and got room 508 which was in the second floor of the same building. This room was filthier than the other one. The floor was so dirty and the toilet reeked of urine and was not cleaned at all. Attached is a pic of the toilet. The linens, bed sheets and towels were Beware, this place will get your vacation spoiled. We decided to move to Holiday Inn in Kitty Hawk the next day even though it's pricey. But it is totally worth it. Do not waste your money in this place they call a hotel. read more

The pool was not available. "Part or our amenities is a pool. However it is not available for swimming" They advertise close to the beach, they just don't tell you the beach is a 12 minute car ride away and finally the room they assigned us what not cleaned. Inexpensive...pictures look good, but it is an old hotel that's been renovated. Lobby area smells like air freshener way too much. Checked in and they said Wi-Fi was not working except in the lobby. Not workable for me as on business I can't realistically do TEAMs meetings in a lobby. Checked out the room anyway. Renovated but was still just kinda meh. Smellled overwhelmingly of mildew...which is bad for anyone with a breathing issue, so checked back out and am awaiting my card to be reversed that said would taken4/5 days. Why? You charged it and that took a second. Manager was nice about last minute refund for not staying, but for a person with asthma, that room is hazardous. No joke. read more

By far the absolute worst experience I've ever had, and I've stayed at a LOT of hotels. If you are considering this place, don't. You're better off sleeping in your car. The owner is a cheap, lying scumbag who was avoiding dealing with any issues. We booked a king bed for 3 nights to end our 2 week roadtrip and this place ruined the trip. First of all, this is a motel, not a hotel. Huge difference! When we went to check in, they gave us 2 queens instead of the king we purchased, we didn't even realize it at check in after the long drive until we got to our room. We had to drive to another building to get to our room, where the door opens to the outside since this is a motel, not a hotel as described in their name! Upon entering, it became immediately clear we couldn't stay due the horrible smell alone which gave my wife a headaches after just minutes. Then, the the whole room was filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a very long time (finger prints all over, layers of dust on all surfaces, even obvious ones, food in the sink, brown stains and streaks on shower near the toilet, shower pan covered in all sorts of something I don't even know, shower walls not wiped down, pubic hair all over). Not to mention it looks nothing like the nice pics on the website. It is smaller, darker, and just overall crappier with shotty repairs that make it look very run down. This is nothing close to newly renovated or how the website makes it sound like an oasis lol. We went back to front desk and asked for a different room, they did give us a second room that had a king bed this time. Unfortunately, all the same problems as the first room with the filth and smell and who knows if sheets were even changed. Anyways, after 3 hours of battling this and working with booking agency, we decided to skip it due to poor quality and pay $1200+ to stay at a holiday inn on the banks if that tells you how bad it is. Manager said he would refund us no problem. When we got back home, was hard to get his contact info and he seemingly was never available and kept making excuses as to why he couldn't refund us saying he couldn't login to the system! 3 months and hours on phones later and they refused to refund us despite saying he would and the product was not at all as described. We even supplied pictures of the condition. This is borderline fraud and should be shutdown. Will be working with credit card company to process a chargeback claim for the full amount. Pay a little more and go anywhere else. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with our stay at Hotel Manteo! Room was bright and clean, exactly as pictures on the website. The main areas could have been a little cleaner, but the room was great! Very spacious. Employees were very friendly. Grateful to discover that they offered a grab and go breakfast each morning, as well! Definitely recommend! read more
