Do not waste your time or money. Mario is MONEY HUNGRY. He's going to over charge you for things you don't need. I didn't need a transmission but he had me pay for two. Instead of fixing the REAL problem, he had me go buy a radiator " to fix it for free since I was spending so much money with him " L O L .. guess what? I purchased the radiator and picked my truck up when he was " done " ... paid him, and he didn't fix my radiator ... LOL it's sitting in my trunk. Then I call to complain and he tells me the radiator is fine ... that's why he didn't fix it. Well, now I'm at Midas paying $2200 for a tune up and radiator because Mario also said he would give me a free tune up after a week of driving after the transmission exchange. Scammers stay away from them / Scamers stay away from them Long time I took my pick up truck because I was having transmission problems The transmission was executing the speed changes out of time so the engine was revolutionizing more than normal, I took it to trans o mex and they told me that I had to pay a diagnostic fee, the next day they called me and sent a picture of two metal cubes that had been found in the crankcase (the reservoir where the ATF transmission oil is) and that the transmission needed complete reconstruction, When I saw the metal cubes I was shocked, because I knew immediately that they wanted to cheat me, I was a mechanic for a while and I can guarantee that you will never find pieces of metal in the crankcase, because the transmission mechanism is sealed completely by the valve set For the problem of my car the problem was either the turbine or the oil pump or the valve set but never a complete reconstruction because as I repeat the problem it was only a delay in the gear changes, the car was moving perfectly and forcefully read more

Well being that I have been seeking for my car to get fixed for well over a month searching for a Transmission place in Chicago so stressed out that my car keeps stalling because of some sensors located in the transmission that needed to get replaced. I made an appointment at Tran-O-Mex to bring my car in and have it fixed as they confirmed they would over the phone and gave me a price. You would imagine if you make an appointment they have to tend to your car because I took time out of my day off to take my car there bright early in the morning expecting my car to get fixed for work. But unfortunately, they turned me away saying they were busy and had many cars ahead. Come next week. But why make an appointment then? This was so frustrating. Ok, so I've waited two years to write this review on purpose. Called them two 1/2 years ago to get a quote on a transmission, etc. They're like "yeah bring it in...." so I ask all the usual questions, how much is an estimate ($65), is it applied to the overall total, what if I don't want their service... I was very upset that they initially quoted $800 ballpark as it was not a total rebuild but once they took it apart it was going to be like $125 for the estimate and to put back together because they "took it apart" huh??? How can you quote without taking it apart, where did the $65 go? Total rip! I mean my car is in pieces, I can't just march out of there! I basically felt I had no choice now but to go with them, the total $800 job ended being $1900! AND they did not deduct the estimate from the overall total. They charged it on top of the work done! Whatever! I was just waiting for my trans to drop so I could rip into them...alas two plus years and it's still going strong. So much for ripping them, to be fair, other places once I had all the facts quoted around $1600 and to give the estimate even though I already knew the issue around $100 so a difference that was negligible once you add in the rental car, etc. Only three stars because I felt their customer service was shady and didn't give honest info upfront. No stars! I would not recommend this place of business to anyone. Nor would I take any of my vehicles there every again. The alternator was replaced. After the alternator was replaced and after a long wait we were informed that there was a bad signal from the computer. We took a full functioning computer from another business and was supposed to have it replaced here. We would not buy a non functioning computer nor would the business we bought it from sell it if it did not function! They had my husband's car for over 2 weeks. They would call him and promise a time of when they would complete the repair of our CRV but this promise was never kept. They would not call back with a follow up. And he would up calling demanding an explanation. We should not have to call if we were promised a call back time!! Mario never sounded convincing , would talk in circles, when he would explain what was wrong with our vehicle. Too much back and forth. Not reliable at all!! We were over charged and ended up having our previous computer reinstalled and took our vehicle home! What a shame a local business cannot be reliable to its fellow neighbors! If you are in need of any transmission work, this DEFINITELY NOT the place to take your vehicle to. They screwed my transmission rebuild, had to do it again and screwed that one up as well. On top of that, they were suppose to do a minor engine part replacement and eventually damaged my engine to the point it needed to be replaced. If they say they never did such a thing, contact me. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. Took my car here because I had a check engine light on and I had an idea what the problem was. I took it to get it tested. I took it around 11am and they said I'd get a call back around 3-5pm. They never called so i called and they said had to keep it overnight. I thought they werr busy, I agreed. They told me to expect a call back 9am the next day when they were done. They never called so i called around 10. They told me they were going to call back, surprise, they didnt. I called again and received the same answer as before. I decided to go in and pick up my car instead. Once I get there they tell me I have to wait for the guy that helped me. I explain I only need my key and my car, they say I have to wait for the guy who assisted me. After a 30 to 40 minute wait, I finally talk to the guy. I explain that I just came to pick up my car so i could take it somewhere else. He fumbles around his desk, organizing the mess. He then decides to call up a customer and let him know the parts he needed arrived, while "helping" me. Why didn't I get a phone call to let me know the situation with my car? He then resumes to fumble through paperwork. Finally he finds the paperwork and starts typing in the computer. 5 minutes in I ask what he's typing, that i only need my car so I could leave. He tells me he's writing the report for the car and that it was $95 for a service they never did. I tell him $95 for something that wasn't done to my car?! He sees that I'm mad so he walks away saying "Alright! Alright!" With his hands in the air and retrieves my keys and I finally leave. The car was sitting about half a block down from the shop. I found knapkins inside, looks like they took my car to go get some lunch. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE TIME, MONEY, FOR A JOB THEY WONT DO. read more

This was the worst experience imaginable! They had my car for 3weeks to replace a throttle body assembly on a 2000 Mercedes Benz. They completed the work without giving us an estimate. Mario quoted $1500. We got on a payment plan, and gave them $200 down. 3weeks later my truck stopped in the middle of th Stevenson expressway, the same problem as before. They pick the truck up, and NEVER called. Three different occasions we were given a pickup day. 3weeks later we can pick it up. We get there, our truck is at another shop supposedly fixed and ready to go. We got to the other shop and the mechanic there said they just the car the day before. WTF??? Mario is a liar, and the whole staff spend their days playing "pass the buck." Our balance cancelled since the original problem was never fixed. How is this place still open? Took my '14 escape for suspension work (control arm replacement & alignment). I choose them from a CarMax maxcare warranty network referral. Jesse was very friendly and helpful. So far, after 3 days, it drives great. I have a year to bring back if it doesn't, another plus. I'm only leaving a star off because I was charged $21 the warranty wouldn't cover over my $50 co-pay. I'm thinking this nice, friendly, efficient shop could've given me a break, given it was an $1155 job...just saying! The Cicero Illinois location gave me not only the most friendly and helpful greeting and advise but also the best value for my dollar spent on repairing my forty year old motorhome steering gear box problem. Shortly after arriving in Chicago from Los Angeles, I noticed a "different" sound apparently coming from the steering. The guys at Trans-o-Mex thought nothing of accepting and storing my RV, waiting for repair parts to arrive and then getting the RV ready for summer worry free traveling. Absolutely the WORST place to have ANY transmission work done. They don't know what they are doing. I went to them to have a transmission installed a while back. I had to wait about two weeks to get the car back, and the whole time they kept giving me the run-around, making up bogus excuses as to why the car wasn't done. Then when I finally got the car back, the transmission was not shifting properly. I took it back and they told me that it was my fault, and that the transmission was all burned up inside. They replaced it, because it was under warranty, and then a few months later the entire planetary gear assembly cracked in half. They told me that I must have shifted the car into Park while driving, which I DEFINITELY had NOT done! I was so sick of the lies and BS! Also, their "rebuild" process involves reusing a lot of parts that they claim are not worn out., instead of replacing them all. Recipe for catastrophic failure! So, Nov 19,2019, i brought my vehicle in for front tire noise and simple oil change. Turned out ball joints needed to be replaced. They did the service but forgot oil change so I waited, no biggie. Now, Dec 10,2020, steering wheel shaking and scary experience on expressway, I pull over because car is undriveable. Call a tow. Service advisor from a reputable company calls to inform me that my front axel needs to be replaced and will not be covered! Why? Because whoever last worked on your vehicle cracked your axel boot. They had to of cracked it and actually glued the axel boot back together! maam it was glued! Gentlemen said he cannot believe someone would ever do this because they should know it wont hold and cause more damage. But instead of being honest the laborer from Tex-O-mex who screwed up and cracked it tried to cover it up. I went to 3 other companies to see if this information could be backed up. Absolutely. First service advisor even called me and said I saved your axel so you can bring it back to Trans-O-Mex and show a manager or owner, because this is the most shady thing I've seen done to someone. I've called Trans-O-Mex. No one wants to contact me back. Either on phone, not there, or just stepping out. All i want is my $608.21 back! The amount my warranty would not cover because of this! Trans-O-Mex calls themselves a high quality guaranteed service company. Hell no. Stay away. Something was wrong with my transmission so I brought it in. They charged me $80 for a diagnostic! They showed me the code, which AutoZone checks for free, and not bother to drive it. I was sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours just for them to read the codes. They tell me they have to change a solenoid in the transmission and it's going to be around $400. That's ridiculous. I don't really have a choice since I've already been towing my car all around town so I just tell them to do the work. It takes around for days and they tell me that my car is fixed. Go and behold two weeks later my car completely tears apart the transmission and leaves me stranded in the middle of a road trip with my transmission completely shattered. I have it towed to a more reputable mechanic and of course they told me that the transmission was never in a drivable state to begin with since it was sealed with silicone. How did they not catch that? I have had other family members and Friends complain about this shop and their ridiculous prices and subpar work. Shady. read more

I dropped off my car @ 9am. Told them the diagnostics i received by a third party. I was told to expect a call in the afternoon. Never did. So I called. They said they needed another day. Never got a call the next day. So I called late in the afternoon. I was told to authorize an additional four hours in diagnostics, about $500, in addition to the initial $95 inspection fee. I asked what the heck they were doing with it for two whole days. They said sometimes it takes a day & sometimes a week to run diagnostics. I told them they could forget it & I would be picking up my car. Three days later i'm picking up my car. They gave me the run around. I told them all I want is the keys. They informed me it would take 20 minutes to bring the car around from they're lot. I told them to give me the keys and I would pick it up myself two blocks down. When I got in the car, the car had no gas & there was an open pop & napkins in the car. At the end they're $95 report stated the same issues I initially presented to them. I just paid $95 to park my car there for 3 day. Peep peep, on my way to the dealer. Sometimes it doesnt pay to try & save a buck. read more

I waited to up update this review to see how the car would operate after they decideded to finally do a corrective action to the car. that is the only form of good news with a big disclamier. so more on the good news, the car was finally repaired and is in very good operating condition but, (with a big but) I had to pull tooth and nail to get the corrective action done. THE BAD : when I first took it in I got quote X amount of dollars, which I though was fair, with a possibly of an additional 50 dollars if the car had a bigger issue.the car had the bigger issue and bait and switched to a ridiculous amount of an additional 200 + what they quoted me. So screwed it I didn't want to deal with it so I decided to get it repaired. After they had the car a week to switch a few gaskets and seals they returned the car is crap condition. THE VERY UGLY AND WITH SOME GOOD LUCK: I went back and stated the car was in bad operating condition. They had the nerve to say it's not there fault and its going to be another week and an additional fee to look at it. I was outraged and mad, not only they refused to look at it they accused me of being a liar. After trying to discuss and talk like human beings I asked for the owner. The manager (oliver) had the nerver to claim he was the owner and said he could do nothing. Outraged I left, the next day I went back and attempted again to get what I paid for. This time oliver was acting very strange and very suspicion and the only reason was because an older man walked in. The older man ,about 65 ,was the real owner. Oliver walked out the room and the man approached me and asked what was wrong. He took care of me and treated me like I should have been done in the first place. Got the car fixed in 20 minutes and I was very happy. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: the issue was that they installed the motor mounts backwards. The induced vibration from the engine was being transfered to the chassis and causing the racket as you drove. Also,that disheveled secretray blatantly laugh at me without any issues what so ever as I was being accused of being a liar. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE: After the repair I got two calls asking how the car was and asking for the yelp review to be taken down or to update it that it was fixed. I told oliver that you dont want me updating yelp. After the 2nd call I decide to update with the additonal details after I was sure the car was still in operating condition and no further problems would arise so I can include them in this update. This will be a mixed review. I took my Volvo there to get some transmission work done, got quoted a price of $850. Left my car there four days. When I picked it up it was fine the first day. The second day the transmission fluid leaked out totally. This is why I took it there, to replace the seal. When I took it back and they looked at the car they said something else was causing the trans to leak, some other work I had done prior. After taking it back to other shops they informed me that trans o mex was pulling my leg I decided to go into flip mode. I took it to their sister shop on Western, they also said it was something else. I told them if they fixed what they said is the problem and my trans still leaks i'm not paying them, they agreed. they fixed what they thought the problem was and the trans still leaked. It was a young guy running the shop and I knew what they did fix needed to be fixed anyway so I was willing to pay for the work they did. I told him that I needed him to call trans o mex on Cicero and tell them they needed to do the repair again and he agreed. When I took the car back customer service tried to do the good cop,bad cop routine. I stayed calm and they fixed my car. Now that I reflect and have read the reviews, I don;t think they actually did the repair the first time. The only reason they deserve 2 stars is that the car is still running with no transmission problems. read more

I can't believe this place is still in business. Transmissions are not their forté. I took my '02 Suburban in the beginning in 2014, they "rebuilt" my transmission, it only lasted until 2017, dropped $1,700. They "rebuilt" it again in 2017, only lasted until now 2019. I dropped another $1,400. I am unemployed, and I spoke to asshole Jesse who claimed to understand but was still charging me $1,000 to fix it!!!! I told him I can only pay $600, dickhead wouldn't budge, said he would be losing money, yeah right!!! How many people have they fucked over and are still in business making money hand over fist. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! They will only burn a hole in your pocket and fuck up your transmission when they "rebuild" it. Trans-o-Mex SUCKS!!!! They're no transmission specialists, that's for sure!!!!!! THEIR NEGLIGENCE WILL COST YOU LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY. DO NOT GO THEIR!!!! I repeat do not go their. I got my transmission done their and they left bolts loss on transmission oil pan. Due to them leaving bolts loss that connect trans to engine the engine locked up about a month after they did the work. They also left the bolts that connect the torque converter to engine lose. Because of the issue my engine locked up. When I took it back to them and they said that engine was locked and to replace it was $3900. I took it to get a second opinion and that's when I was given pictures of the bolts that were lodge on the torque converter and flywheel, and the bolts on oil pan.I will be out $2500 dollars in labor and parts just to put back the engine back together. The same engine that they were going to rip me off on. I'm looking for legal advice in hopes to recover some money back. read more

I really want to give this place a much better rating but cannot due to the many problems I've had with replacing my engine and the rebuild of the transmission. Starting with the good news: you don't feel like you are dealing with mechanics in dealing with the employees . They seems to be really nice people, not trying to squeeze every last penny out of you. On the other hand, it took over 3 weeks for both my engine and transmission to be completed. One time during the remodeling of their shop, they couldn't find my paperwork and were just waiting on me to contact them. That was almost twice the time quoted to me during which I had to rent a car :( I must have called them over a dozen times to check on my car although they might have returned my call only 2 times. Within 4 weeks, my transmission started acting up again. I took it back and they repaired the problem, well, at least I think they have and hope they did. My power steering hose was also repaired by Trans-O-Mex but then starting leaking again the next week. The engine seems to be running well. The only reason why I go to this place is because I don't feel like they are trying to gauge me. However, I am resigned to them not having my car ready when they say it will be done and sometimes doubtful that they really fixed the problem. I get the feeling that the place is too big and the mechanics don't care enough about making sure that the job is thoroughly completed. This is aggravating and I am looking for the exit! read more
