Greggory himself took good care of me when I arrived late, at the end of his workday. He made the space to keep the shop open a bit more for me, and I did my best to not hold him up. I was buying a last-minute birthday cake, and found a delectable selection of ready-made cakes that he had baked and decorated. Next to them were an assortment of remaining pastries from the day in his display case, each a different kind of fluffy indulgence. Even if I wanted to be considerate of his time, he appreciated me taking the space to choose the cookies and pastries I took home alongside a Black and White frosted marble cake. Before I left, he managed to tell me a story as a token of his gratitude. Greggory had been making cakes on the other side of the country, and how even if people from around the world came to his host's shop for cakes, the human connection meant more than just the art or industry of cake making. The area he came home to has a community of people who became his clients, regular customers, and friends. Before I left, I was touched that even if I were being his last customer of the day, he treated me as if I were as important as his first or any in between. No, I didn't get to clear out his remaining stock, even if I wanted to try each of what remained. But I know where to look for him when coming east from 91--he's to your right on the south, at the corner of the building I'd describe as "that house-like outlet strip mall barn." To be short and sweet, the cakes taste good and they get it done on time, but the visual aspect of it all is disappointing. Greggory is also a very unpleasant person to work with. If you're looking for a plain and simple cake, maybe a few little roses and nice text, go for it. However don't bother with a custom design request unless your cake is for a little kid who couldn't care less. I've ordered at least eight cakes from them, and the visual quality isn't great. I made a design based off of my favorite stuffed animal, taking into consideration their previous works and trying to keep it simple, and it was still awfully disappointing. Not that they were rushed as it was ordered two weeks ahead of time while not busy. One year, they forgot my order entirely and did it in a day. In terms of service, everyone seems to be very nice except for Greggory himself, who seemed almost annoyed by the fact that someone was ordering a cake. I think that ill be looking into other cake shops now, as my sister and I have been getting lackluster cakes from them since I was 13, and I am now an adult. read more

Very bad customer service by owner. He's a mess. Not organized and rude. The layers of his wedding cake samples slid right off each other on the ride home. I was told I would have to pickup a three tier wedding cake myself - there was no delivery. He acted as if he didn't even know me when I called the next day after meeting me prior and had to take down all my information again. Recently moved to the area and needed a birthday cake for my husband for a zombie themed birthday. I was a little hesitant based of prior reviews, but am so glad I decided to go with them. The cake tasted amazing (white with lemon cream filling), and the design turned out great. I asked for a zombie themed cake, but gave Greg creative license foe the design. I thought both gentleman who were working when I picked up the cake were nice (not rude like previous reviews), and I ended up buying some other yummy pastries when I was there because they looked (and tasted!) really good. We had our wedding at the Inn on Boltwood in Amherst a few days ago. Greggory's Pastry Shop baked our cake for us and it was amazing. We chose Greggory to make our cake based on the selection of cake, frosting, and filling flavor combinations. Greggory allowed us to pick as many sample combinations as we wanted (we tried a five different ones). We ended up selecting a maple cake with white chocolate buttercream frosting with a cream cheese filling. Our guests told us it was one of the best cakes they had. We also were in love with how the cake turned out (we were lucky enough to have some leftover to take home since we had a few less guests than anticipated). We are so pleased that we chose Greggory's Pastry for our cake. We can't wait to buy another cake from him. Also, in the process of picking a cake, we tried a few other pastries from his shop which were all equally delicious. This was one of the best decisions for our wedding! Greggory's isn't dry cake and the flavors are amazing and options are endless. This is gourmet and the prices can't be beat. went in to buy cookies this morning. the cases were empty. It was the day after a long holiday weekend so I'll give them a pass. The owner was in back decorating a cake when I walked in. he looked up. did not respond. continued working and then eventually came to the counter. he barely said hi. I was buying cookies to serve to clients and when i asked him to not include one that had a big glob of jelly on the top, his response was a sarcastic "really?" I spoke directly with Greggory to order my daughters graduation at UMass Amherst. He was very energetic and willing to custom make my cake. He requested pictures if needed and gave me his email to send my requests and pictures. The cake surpassed my expectations! I even hugged Greggory when I saw his masterpiece. My wife and I got married at the Hotel Northampton, and included in the package was a cake from Greggorys. Our initial meeting went well - it was with one of his assistants to try samples of various flavors and fillings (we ended up with a 3-tier choco vanilla with a raspberry filling and it was delicious). Everything was well explained, and they were very friendly. Prices are really reasonable, especially for the attention and quality you get. We even had them do our 'rehearsal dinner' cake; we wanted a CALVIN AND HOBBES theme, and Greggory did an amazing job. We emailed a hi-res photo of what we wanted, and it was reproduced perfectly. Some places do that edible-photo flat print out of the picture.. but not here! The picture on our cake was completely done by hand, with spray-color frosting and sparkles for the snow (see attached picture). Needless to say, the cake was delicious (carrot without raisins; my favorite) The other negative reviews that complain about how they don't take credit cards are really unfair. There are several ATMs a short drive away. I would recommend the one next to the doughnut man, because they have fantastic coffee. read more

I was late for a holiday party at work and was trying with no luck to buy bakery-quality cookies last-minute in Northampton or along Route 9 to Amherst. I'd forgotten that most bakeries overcharge at $3 a cookie (I'm looking at you, Tart, Woodstar and Esselon). I'd always wondered about Greggory's, as it is nearly hidden in a business park, but I gave it a try in cookie-desperation. They saved the day with an enormous assortment of holiday cookies at reasonable prices (something like 35 cents a cookie, although I can't remember exactly). When I didn't have cash on hand (yes: cash only) or time to go to an ATM without being late for the event, they told me to just "pay them later." Great customer service! I returned afterwards and paid in cash, of course. Cookies were lovely - not out-of-this-world in flavor, but very pretty and tasty. Recommended. UPDATE 5/5 Greggory's saved the day again with 30 last-minute cupcakes for my college course. Great customer service and very tasty. I brought cupcakes from Atkins to my other course on Monday and they were so-so; students thought these were much better. Appropriately priced, delicious and well-decorated. Gregg did a splendid job on this Katherine Sabbath inspired cake. I emailed him the picture and he created something similar of what I wanted. I supplied him with candies and meringue. Only down part is that I wish he would do ganache through. Because the dripping part is made with chocolate, it made it a little difficult to cut the cake without making a mess. Other than that the cake itself is very tasty. The cake is moist. The raspberry filling is delicious. Perfection. Gregg probably couldn't remember me but last year we got my daughter cake from him as well. It was sparkly pink ruffles cake.
