Found this shop thru Yelp and SUPER happy I did! My car was diagnosed by a local mechanic to have a faulty transmission. I took my car in and the owner Joe was extremely helpful, honest and really knows his stuff! He explained to me the different possible scenarios and involved me in every step of his diagnostic. (I even went with him on his test drive! Super smart dude!) My car ended up not having a transmission issue but rather a engine misfire, caused by a faulty gasket. After being misdiagnosed, any dishonest transmission shop could have taken advantage. Not Joe! I saved a ton of money and he gained a life long customer. Also! When you take your car to a shop for repair, the best you could hope for is that the shop you take it to treats you fairly, does a good job, and they respect you and your situation. The last thing you hope for, is that they only want to get as much money as possible from you and they have little concern for you as a customer. I wouldn't recommend bringing your car here because my experience was bad, and I'll explain why. I'll also recommend the transmission shop that worked out well for me. I usually start any repair by calling a few shops to see if a shop can do the job and what they estimate the cost to be. When I called Transmission Super Shop, I talked to the Owner Joe. And He didn't remember that I had called for a quote about my coolant system months ago, and he had given me a quote on transmission.. The previous quote I got was $5500. And during this call he was quoting upwards of $6000. It was easily a 15-20minute call, because I was driving from Downtown to Santa Monica and I was parking in Santa Monica when we concluded. Most of the discussion was him explaining to me why it was so expensive. I could tell he was upselling me from the previous time we spoke. And it concluded with me saying, "Well I simply don't have a budget for that amount" A few minutes later, He texted me back, saying that he would do the job for $3500. I will include Screenshots. Already, I would consider prices that are based on the amount of money the customer has, a "Yellow Flag" if not a "Red Flag". But after discussing it with him, it sounded more like he was scaling the type of work to fit my needs. He was willing to do a repair, rather than a replacement. And seeing as how they are a transmission shop that specializes in that type of work, it made sense that they would be willing and able to do that. I said, I would think about it and get back to him. At the time, I was considering selling the car, and My lease was up on my place, so I had to consider the added costs of moving. Tough Choice. I did some budgeting, and Messaged him a few days later and he said that the price was only good for that week. Which, okay, that sets off some warning signals. Why would the price change in a week? Sort of seems like a tactic to pressure the customer into doing the job... And it was. But, I thought about it and later that week I asked him if I could bring it in on the following monday because rent was due and it would work better if I waited till another pay check. He didn't remember our conversation. He asked what it was about, and he said he deleted the conversation. I totally get it, customers come and go and you deal with a lot of people, but it wasn't the best customer service. You would hope that if someone gives you a week to decide, that when you call back later that week they would still remember the ultimatum that forced you to consider rearranging your life to meet. But as it turns out, that's not the kind of customer service and consideration that Transmission Super Shop Offers. It was inconvenient to him. He said it was okay to bring the car in on that date. When the date came, I actually texted to ask if I could bring the car in earlier. Once again He didnt remember. And he said it would take 2 weeks. Which was different than what he had said earlier. So I asked why. He no longer wanted to do the job. But you should read the text messages and get a feel for the customer service and get a sense of his thought processes and mine. Decide for yourself what you think of it. But I'll give you my impression and my takeaway, because that's what a yelp review is. An account of my experience of a business. As a means of helping other people with their big decisions when considering that business. My impression of Joe and the Transmission Super shop.... They want your money, they want you in and out. Don't ask questions. Don't be inconvenient. Don't waste their time. Every conversation was actually a negotiation. RECAP: 1. I called for a quote and he didnt remember the previous quote and raised the price. 2. I didnt have the money, so he made me an offer, but said it was only good for that week. 3. I asked if I could bring it in early, he said no, & it would take 2 weeks 4. I ask why, and he says he doesn't want to do the job anymore. But as a customer, I was always acting on the information from our previous exchange. And each time he didnt remember and changed the situation and seemed annoyed by my questions. In his mind, he's giving me a deal and I should just bring it in no questions asked. He wasn't understanding of my situation. For me it was a months rent trying to save the life of my car, for him it was annoying. When your mechanic is annoyed that you have questions, its a problem. I was able to come to Transmission Super shop and Joe the owner was GREAT! He not only took the time to look at my car and check with his system for my check engine light but he was able to take my car on a ride with me to see what the sound was that was sounding weird with my car! He was able to fix the screw that was loose and then we took the car for a second drive and the car noise went AWAY! he also was able to tell me the codes that his computer reader gave me and I will be be bringing my car back to him next week to get those fixed! He's honest, and has a cool Chevy impala (in the pic) and had a great attitude towards helping his customers! I highly recommend coming here! Several weeks/months ago, I started noticing a problem with my older 5 speed manual tranmission car -- it was lagging when I tried to accellerate in higher gears. Got progressively worse over time. I had no idea where to take it. I called two places up in the valley -- the first one I got a lackluster guy who was vague about what the problem might be, timeframe, and everything else. Then I called Joe at Transmission Super Shop. What a difference! I immediately sensed he was invested in my problem, suggested what the issue might be (and he was right, it turns out) and was able to take the car in just a couple of days. He even quoted me a price on the phone that was less than I feared (based on some minimal investigation I'd done) -- and he stuck to it! Not only was my car in and out of his shop in a couple of days, I was embarrassed to have popped the clutch as I drove away from his shop. I wasn't used to a clutch that worked so nicely. I went in for the first time to get my car checked because it was making a weird noise that other shoos told me probably required a new transmission to fix but I wanted to get another opinion before committing to an expensive repair. I was greeted by Joe who is very friendly and committed to finding a solution. He took the time to test drive my car for a god period of time to get an accurate diagnosis. After test drive and using his experience for accurate problem differential he was able to pinpoint all the issues with my car and I ultimately determined I didn't need a transmission repair, I needed transmission fluid change, new spark plugs and motor mounts. I avoided paying thousands and my car finally doesn't have that horrible shuddering sound. Thought I had a transmission issue, my VW Golf was downshifting really poorly & 2 other mechanics were stumped. Instead of just selling me a new transmission, Joe took the time to diagnose the problem & found that in addition to a failed throttle body, I had bad a sensor which was throwing things out of sync. This is the second time I've had Joe rebuilt one of my transmissions. Different vehicle of course... Joe is professional. He knows his stuff. And his prices are very reasonable. Before going to him the first time, we were thinking about buying a used, non-warranty tranny with 60-80k miles on it. It would have been a nightmare with no warranty. I called Joe and he said, "Why don't you just rebuild it? I offer a 2 year warranty on parts and labor." Sold my brother! So that's what I did the first time. Brought my car to get checked and sure enough it needed a transmission rebuild. Can't believe how expensive these things are, but again, gotta pay for what you need and if you want good work. The place is in a auto repair strip mall, meaning there are like 4-5 businesses that repair cars and it is hard to move around to find a spot. Lucky for me, there was a spot and was quick to get tended to and figuring out a plan to review and diagnose the car. The owner gave me a call a few hours later informing me of the findings and that it would take about a week to repair as they had to order the parts then begin with the rebuilding process. The good thing is the 24 month/24,000 mile warranty they gave, which is better than most other places offer and the prices, about even with most places, more than some but for sure less than others especially the big chain operators. Anyway, I would recommend this place for transmission jobs. read more

Update: You are now reading the ultimate review; the kind that comes after over four full years of working with someone, four plus years of experience and time. After our first experience with Joe, I just decided to run other things by him. They specialize in transmissions of course, but they do everything else. So I just kept coming back for: service, any major repairs, the odd rattle, electrical, etc. etc. Our car has 200,000+ miles on it, so you're going to run into repairs here and there, even if it is as meticulously maintained as ours is. I now have almost 5 years of experience with Joe and I have actually looked forward to taking the car in each time. On more than one occasion, Joe has given me an estimate, and then found that the actual repair required less time than expected, so the actual cost has been less, or no charge at all. I am now a 56-year-old man, can afford to take my car anywhere, and I would never think of going anywhere else. It takes a lifetime to find the kind of mechanic that you would send your son or daughter to, and you have just found him. I took my Jaguar X-Type 2002 vehicle to the transmission super shop because my car has been hesitating is what Joe ends up calling it I believed that the transmission was slipping because I had only recently had the car tuned up in preparation for my smog test. This transmission shop did work on my 2000 mustang GT a few years ago they did the rear gears and a few of the problems it had, the car was working beautiful until a different shop crashed it. I now have a 2002 Mustang GT . i got a different shop to do the clutch, they did a horrible job. Then I Took it to a few other shops they were kind of jerks. Thought to myself, this shop did great work on my black Mustang so I'm almost positive they'll do good work on this mustang. I had ordered a remanufactured and upgraded transmission for my Jeep Wrangler TJ and needed someone to install it. I really felt it was time to park my car and come to grips that I was going to have to sale my 2013 Chevy Camaro. ONE WORD! JOE! I called a few transmission places to get some prices and for some reason talking to Joe on the phone made me feel safe with this place being the decision and no regrets. Clean shop they picked up my car with no extra charge since it was immobile. He broke down how much it would cost to do each type of job and he was completely honest with me on the better option and prior to talking to anyone I did research and he hit every point I wanted. did not need to ask any question it was like he was reading my mind. They got the job done fast even my friends were like DAMN that was quick. He had told me it would take longer too so I was even surprised. The shop was super clean unlike other tranny spots you drive by. You'll see tranny on top of trannys haha. prior to my tranny giving out I had fixed my brakes somewhere else and there was a rattling sound and even though it was not their responsibility to fix what error the person made they found the problem and fixed it with no extra charge. I been to many places for many reason and I have never been to a business where they just want to genuinely help just to help. Im always ready to pay people to help me out but I was surprised. oh and on top of that! they even washed my car at no charge also!! WHO DOES THAT! The rear transfer case seal on my all wheel drive Audi was leaking fluid and it wasn't a repair my general mechanic could do so I needed a transmission specialist. I chose Transmission Super Shop because the reviews on Yelp and Google were overwhelmingly positive. I spoke to the owner Joe on the phone and he took his time answering questions and was courteous and friendly and seemed knowledgeable. He was very nice when I showed up at the shop and he quickly offered me a comfortable spot to wait while he took a look at my car on the lift. He invited me to take a look at the problem spot and discussed the repair and what it would entail. I like that I was spoken to with respect and that he took the time to give me details. My repair actually was finished faster than I expected and even under the quoted price which was a really happy surprise. When I picked up my car, Joe had the parts he removed (two rubber seals) and showed them to me and explained why they no longer were holding a proper seal. I'm a curious person so I asked him a bunch of transmission and tech questions and he took his time explaining things to me. It's rare to find a trustworthy mechanic and to have a positive experience with car repair but Joe and his shop really stand out as the good guys in the automotive field. It's good to find an honest and competent transmission shop. I am totally satisfied with the quality of work, price, and time spend to complete the rebuild of my 4 year old, 100k mile trans. I asked Joe what was the cause of the failure, and he took the time to explain in detail, what went wrong, and that he used an upgrade rebuilt kit from TransGo, a USA product, which is considered by professionals to be superior to factory spec parts.
