My daughter ordered the Chili Colorado Burrito and it was literally the BIGGEST burrito I have EVER seen! Humongous! I ordered the Chili Colorado meal and it was nice, very different in taste than I've had in the past at other places, but good in a different way. We also had the flan for dessert, which was a more dense flan, not the light silky kind, but plated beautifully. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. And it was a clean place and nice to sit at the window, where we happened to watch a church procession walk by on that particular Sunday. read more

This place is pretty big once you consider the covered open air seating that takes up the entire corner of the block. We had 6 of us and were able to get a table right away. We ordered everything from carne asada to enchiladas to a seafood molcajate. The food was all good (not mind blowing) and well prepared. The seafood molcajate was loaded! Fish, shrimp, octopus, crab, clams, mussels! Perfectly cooked. I'm pretty sure that the corn tortillas are house-made. So I recommend those. read more

Absolutely amazing. We were traveling south on I 5 and looked up best restaurants. Trapala came up as #2 and we wanted Mexican food. The ambience was authentic and the staff was terrific. Top that off with some of the best Mexican food and it is a win/win! I ordered the vegetarian burrito and was shocked at the size. My friends all ordered fajitas and they loved them too. I definitely recommend this restaurant! The food and drinks were above average and very affordable. I wish they had a location near me. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Woodburn. I was looking forward to coming back to this restaurant. We've probably been here 20 times. The food was always excellent and generous.. Today the food was awful. There was hardly any breading on the chili rellenos. Hardly any cheese on anything the middle of the enchiladas cold. Spanish rice tasted like it came from a jar. And the beans were super runny so disappointed. A couple months ago we came here and I had the best chili rellenos I've ever had. Dropped in on a Sunday morning... what a surprising find! Comfortable, friendly atmosphere. The food was well made and PLENTYIFUL! We ordered an dish a piece and left with enough for a full second meal. Chicken Mole tasted homemade (you could actually taste the chilies) and the salsas were great. One observation as a lifetime consumer of "Mexican" food... there was very little cheese. No cheese on the refried beans, and my dish came with a small stick of fresh cheese rather than a coating of the shredded stuff. I liked it! read more

My sister flew out from FL to have her favorite Woodburn memory, Trapala's Sopa Siete Mares soup. Generous shrimp, cod, crab, octopus, mussels, clams, and fish filets served two. I ordered a luncheon grande burrito which turned out to be a plate and a half of food -- great for taking home for another dinner and lunch. Service is professional, punctual, and thorough. This restaurant is one of the iconic restaurants in Woodburn. I recommend their fajitas, but the locals all have their favorites. read more

Ehh I'm going to be really blunt and honest here.... you can always tell the foods going to be bad if the salsas bad. For starters, The Salsa: tastes like canned salsa mixed with tomatoes, green salsa was lacking serious flavor almost just taste just like jalapeños mixed with water and salt? Food: the most unauthentic food I've had in a while... I'll give it 2 stars for the portion size, but other than that this is the equivalent to the fast food restaurant chipotle as far as authenticity goes. I loved everything about the Pollo Ranchero. The chicken was flavorful. The cactus was something I have never had before but enjoyed. I liked cutting up the spicy jalapeño that was served with it for an extra kick. It was worth the 40 minute drive to meet up with a friend and have dinner. read more

If you turn to salsa throughout the day as a path to nirvana, add a star. This place has some of the best salsa that I've had. I bought container of the sassy verde salsa to take home. The chips were fresh and hot. My fish tacos were exactly the way I dream of them--quickly fried without the flour coating. The handmade tortillas were fresh and delicious, but served cold, a startlement to an otherwise great taco. The rice and beans were fine. The red salsa that accompanied the fish tacos had heat and rich flavor. Winning! My son prefers the bean burrito at our neighborhood restaurant, Nuevo Vallerta. He couldn't describe the difference, aside from claiming these refries aren't as flavorful. It might be a texture difference, too. These refried had whole beans as well as mashed beans. I liked this less salty version over Nuevo's. The service was great--friendly, attentive and generous. When our waiter discovered she hadn't brought my son his mandarin Jaritto, she insisted that he take a bottle to go--on the house. We'll definitely be back. read more

I've been told that it's hard to go to woodburn and find bad Mexican food. I'm sure it's an accurate statement which puts extra pressure on places i do go. We sat with our menus and the prices seemed a little high. I thought my boss would expense this and treat me (she didn't) so I thought "what the heck" I got the thing with chunks of meat and peppers and cheese. When it came about half the volume was green bell peppers so when I was done picking them out there wasn't much left. What was left was delicious but, come on. Later we found out that we had the dinner menus and one person in our party got the lunch menu. She got the Cobb salad which was enormous and looked amazing. Next time if I get a lunch menu I might order that. Love their homemade corn tortillas. Really you could order anything and eat it with the corn tortillas and it's be awesome. Shame. This could easily have been a five star if the waitress had bothered to give me the right menu. read more

I visited Trapala again recently, and unfortunately this visit was not the same extraordinary experience as the first one. The main reason for deducting one star is the disappointing Tacos al Carbon that I ordered. There really wasn't much meat in each taco, but the main offender was the inedible whole green onion that took up most of the space in each taco -- it was impossible to take a bite, and they could not be chewed. Trapala really needs to rethink the inclusion of this item in their meals. I removed the green onion from the first taco and tried to cut it up with a knife, but was unsuccessful. I ended up just pulling them out and leaving them on the edge of the plate, which made for some pretty empty tacos. The beans & rice were good, as were the chips & salsa; so I'm still leaving at 4 stars for now. read more

We came down to go to the pumpkin patch with my little one's class, and decided as long as we were down here to take advantage of being in a community with lots of Hispanic folks to have some real Mexican food. I'm so glad that I read the reviews and we came to La Trapala! The server was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was enticed by the Enchiladas Suizas because I had an amazing meal of them in Mexico, but the Enchiladas Trapalas with shrimp sounded amazing as well. When I told her my dilemma she offered to let me do one of each for the enchiladas plate. My husband decided to go big and got the house special plate, with all variety of meats, grilled cactus, even bbq ribs. The meat of the ribs was literally falling off the bone. And the chorizo was so fantastic. I didn't think I liked chorizo and I'm so glad my husband shared some. I would have liked le to try dessert, but I just barely kept myself from eating myself into oblivion and didn't save room. I'm not quite sure when we'll back-- we live in Portland-- but we're definitely be working on an excuse. read more

Authentic Mexican food so don't expect your American chain restaurant here. Place was very busy so prepare to wait for food during lunch and dinner. Tortilla soup was awesome. Broth was very flavorful and shredded chickens and vegetables and melted cheese...yum! Had street tacos with handmade tortilla and cactus in each one. Lots of meat...steak, pork and chicken. Another great Mexican restaurant in Woodburn. An excellent menu with a few distinct dishes to separate it from the many other restaurants in town. The service was excellent, the dishes during a Saturday lunch came promptly and the staff was knowledgable about the food. One advantage this has over Luis's Taqueria (which seems to be the most popular restaurant in town) is a much nicer atmosphere. It's a step up from the casual seating at Luis's. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. This is a solid spot in Woodburn. I don't get to the town of Woodburn frequently, however, I was down there checking out the tulips and thought I would stop into this small town favorite. The place is small but not too small and family owned. The staff is friendly and will definitely cater to your every need. We asked for margaritas without that terrible mixer that most bars use. They made us up some from scratch margaritas that were beyond belief. The food its top notch and usually always enough for the following days lunch. A lot of times a friend and I will split the fajitas and still have a little left over. You know after the chips and salsa and that whole thing who can complete a meal. All in all my one stop in this town. Check it out if you down that way. read more

This place is outstanding! The food variety is more than we find in most Mexican restaurants. The quality was absolutely fantastic. Our waiter, who is a member of the family that owns the restaurant, suggested I try something very different from what I've had before (el molcajete con salsa roja), and it was excellent! Sra. Chupacabra had the camarones marinated in tequila, and they were dope. After a tough day of shopping at the outlet mall, this is just the place to come for a fantastic meal before heading back to Portland! Totally worth the trip! read more
