Late Friday afternoon lunch, place was very quiet, so the service was excellent. Shredded beef burrito was average, chili relleno was above average, now to get to my shredded beef taco, stale and I mean stale taco shell was way below average, the meat was flavorless even though there was plenty of it. All three of us thought the rice and beans were great. At the end of the meal we were served a small plate with a cinnamon chip and a small scoop of lime sherbet. It has been a few years since the last time my wife and I have been inside of this restaurant. After recommendation from a couple of friends, we decided to give it a second go when we walked inside the establishment had a brand new look to it. It looked fresh and clean, clear down to its bathroom. We went fairly early in the evening and late in the afternoon (3:30 pm) so they really wasn't a large rush of people there. And by this we could actually get a good feel for how good the food is coming out fresh we were greeted by a very nice lady, who quickly sat down, gave us some water chips and the common salsa. Now I need to take a moment and talk about this salsa. The salsa had so much flavor and it wasn't like the other salsas that you would get from Mazatlan or your general local, Mexican food restaurants. in my opinion, this is probably the best salsa that I've ever had from any Mexican restaurant hands-down we ordered our drinks just your typical run of the mill beer. My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and I ordered the steak fajitas. These are probably the best tasting steak fajitas that I've had anywhere hands-down the tortillas were even handmade hand pressed the restaurant I strongly recommend going to El Primo in South McMinnville and giving it a try. Took my Dad here for Father's Day 2 years ago .. We ordered our plates and each a Margarita to sip while we wait for the food to be prepared, We had sipped our drinks down by the time our food came (which was about 20 minutes) to receive our plates and Start to chow down about 1 1/2" into each of our giant chili verde burritos to Them Being *refrigerated cold in the center. We Alerted our waiter and they took them back to be "re-made" so we get another margarita and wait another 20 minutes or so for our New plates to arrive , when it came time to pay they DID NOT COMPENSATE US OR DISCOUNT ANYTHING FOR ANY PART OF THEIR MISTAKE.... I recently had dinner here while visiting family in the area, and I was really pleased with the whole experience. You get an enormous amount of food for the money. I had carne asada - to which they kindly added some grilled nopales at my request for no extra charge - and it came with two pieces of meat instead of the usual one. All was cooked beautifully. They also offered a small dessert with the meal - pineapple sorbet on a sugared flour tortilla chip with whipped cream - which I thought was a nice touch. The margarita I got was huge and not overly sweet. My server was friendly and kind. A friend of one of the food prep staff at El Primo suggested we give it a try. I am sure glad we did. The receptionist who took our order got things a little confused (maybe I was confusing) and we got some items that had cheese and sour cream on them, which we skimmed off... Bottom line the vegetable dishes we ordered were FABULOUS - not too salty, a great blend of spices without being overdone, and vegetables were cooked just enough. On vacation, on our way to Evergreen Space & Aviation Museum; wanted Mexican food. Nice clean place, although they were doing the roof so it was noisy. The server sat us in the bar to keep us away from the noise. My ONLY COMPLAINT is that they had all the lights down in the bar which made the menus difficult to read. There was lighting available, they just didn't turn them on. Food was hot and delicious, well priced and nicely served. Chips were fresh and the wait staff was pleasant and kept our drinks filled.
