Gave it a 1 because our waiter was awesome. I am a local and have eaten here for many years. Lately the food quality and preparation are at best,very poor. We were there for an early dinner last night. Crab cakes had a lot of crab meat but it was not fresh, gray actually. Nasty grease left on plate. Stuffed soft shell crab was still in it's infancy, also bathed in nasty grease, with 2 or 3 old overcooked infant shrimp, but it did come with about a pound of pasta to take up the plate space. The crawfish etouffee came with a large scoop of overcooked rice that resembled mash potatoes. When the hostess offered a go box for our uneaten food I politely declined. It was obvious she saw the food and our disappointment so quickly exit our table area. Oh the salad and dressing was very good, so were the cocktails. read more

Crawfish étouffée was spectacular. House salad was very simple but the blue cheese dressing really changed it up. I had the fried shrimp platter - very lightly breaded leaving it with no overbearing doughy taste. Brother-in-law had the 8" po'boy and said it was very good. We came at around 8:00 on a Friday night. This is, of course, an exceptionally crowded time for any restaurant that is good. We opted for an inside table, rather than wait for an outdoor table. I have always enjoyed Trapani's. However, this trip was marginal. My wife ordered the triple tail fish tacos - so-so with a terrible sauce. She asked for an Eatery Salad and it came with a serving of mushy semi-sautéed shrimp (out of a bag? Please, this is the coast) that she refused to eat. Can't say I blame her. I ordered the tuna with a wasabi sauce with crawfish. No wasabi that I could detect. The onion rings were outstanding as usual. Maybe it was the Friday night rush but the manager (?) was very surly toward his staff when I walked back to the restrooms near the kitchen. It just takes a little bit to make it a nice meal - more thought to preparation is needed. The waiter was harried but attentive - felt almost sorry for him because I am sure manager "fancy chef pants" was riding his ass. The manager maybe needs to spend more time in the kitchen. This is a tough, food demanding demographic - won't last long if they keep heading this way. My guest will pass next time. Probably my wife as well... so I won't get the chance for a redemptive meal. We've eaten at Trapani's for years. We ate there before hurricane Katrina, we ate there, up on the highway, after Katrina and, we expectantly followed them back to their new digs in the Bay. It pains me greatly to say that after our meal today, we're finished. We can't/won't keep returning to a restaurant that can't deliver a dish worthy of what they are asking us to pay for it. Today, I had "Baked Stuffed Flounder" The menu described it as flounder stuffed with crabmeat then baked...$20. Pretty simple. What was served was two small pieces of some kind of fish that was very watery (probably frozen before being cooked) with some sort of slop poured on top. It was served with a "salad" that was lettuce only and 4 small grape tomatoes, a pasta was served as a side and, that was all gummed up. Literally, it almost made me sick to look at it. I scraped the slop off the top of the fish and then picked at the two thinest pieces of fish you can imagine. Sadly, this is the 3rd straight time that my meal has been similarly disappointing. I know that Trapani's can do better, for years they did better. But something has happened and it's not good. It's time to step back, access quality, access staff, look at the prices and correct the problems before it's to late. We may check back in 2014 to see if things have improved but as for 2013, our early New Year's Resolution is to not waste money on slop. Sorry. read more

This place was a great place to eat many years ago we would go often when I visited my family. When my husband and I were looking for a good meal unfortunately we picked the wrong place. The hostess was on the phone taking someone's order and didn't even acknowledge that we had walked in. We waited for many minutes but Our waitress was friendly after we finally sat down. The food was less than and tasteless. The decor is cute. I hope they can find their way again this was a great restaurant years ago. Used to be one of our favorites, but it is now hit or miss on service and food. The spaghetti is my favorite dish - if they have it. Ceasar salad is also hit or miss on availability, and there is a $3 up charge to sub a ceasar for the regular salad - even when they have no croutons. Calling in an order can be difficult as they sometimes do not answer the phone. If you do place an order to go, make sure it is repeated to you for accuracy. My husband and I have visited here every year on the anniversary of our first date and many times in between. This year, for crusin the coast, we approached the empty bar with delight that it was not crowded. To our surprise the reason was we could not get any service despite not only a bar tender but also a server. Children running around behind the bar...we are the only one sitting at the bar and another server and can not even get a simple "hi. We will be with you in a few". The atmosphere is nice, the staff are courteous, kind and efficient. My husband got the blackened red snapper and said it was really very good. One child got fried shrimp and loved it, the other got spaghetti with meatballs and also loved it (didn't eat the meatball). Shrimp scampi was my fare for the evening, unfortunately, it was simply okay. I felt like I paid for a pint of clarified garlic butter with a few shrimp and a meager portion of pasta. It was tasty, but the overabundance of "sauce" made it really messy. It might have been salvagable if accompanied by a good hunk of that ever so abundant crusty French bread...of which there was none. I tried the "red gravy" as they call it, and wasn't overly impressed, but I like salty sauce...not sweet. On to dessert... I am not sure how bread pudding can be done wrong, but this pudding was an epic fail. It was made with fruit cocktail and a vat of cinnamon...I found myself actually searching for the "bread". Believe it or not, I would have been fine with the whole experience, even the pudding fail, if it hadn't been for the price tag, while not unexpected, was rather too much to pay for an overall mediocre meal. read more

My husband and I stopped here for a late lunch while we were in town visiting. Food - Overall, 4 stars. I had fish tacos, a special of the day, and he had the stuffed flounder with Bay St Louis sauce. The fish tacos were good, but because the sauce on them was cold it made the tacos somewhat cold. The flounder was good. Both were large portions. It did not appear there was a lunch menu. The prices were $$ "dinner" prices. Service - 4 stars. The server was friendly and checked on us sufficiently. The food took about 25 minutes to come out. A bit long considering the slow time of day. Atmosphere - 5 stars. I always thought that Trapani's was the best restaurant in Bay St. Louis, but not anymore. I was thoroughly embarrassed when I took my new special lady and my sister out for dinner on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. First, let me say that the wait staff were excellent under extremely difficult circumstances. That said, not much else was very good at all. We walked into a half-filled restaurant. Not very busy for a holiday weekend. So far so good. The host seated us at a table in the middle of all the traffic even though more desirable tables were available. He then disappeared. No menus. No dinnerware. No water. No drinks. The waiter was immediately attentive. He made up for the host's failing and brought us menus and took our drink orders. We then ordered the fried green tomato appetizer. A few minutes later, we ordered our entrees. I actually confused things when I repeated my sister's choice and the waiter both corrected me and got it right. Thank you for that. My lady ordered a fried catfish plate and I ordered the stuffed flounder. We waited. And waited. And waited. Since we were in the middle of everything, we had a clear view of the entire first floor. We saw wait staff, host and hostess going back and forth carrying absolutely nothing. We watched as wait staff stood at the kitchen window waiting for orders to come out. At one point, I got up to use the rest room which is next to the kitchen. As I came out, I heard one of the waiters say to the kitchen staff "Can I get some green onions on this appetizer?" It was obvious that there was something wrong in the kitchen. A few minutes later, my sister says, I'm going out to smoke a cigarette. She did so and came back. Still no appetizers. She goes back to the rest rooms. When she comes out, she overhears the wait staff arguing with the kitchen staff. After well over half an hour, and several apologies from the waiter over a "backed up" kitchen, and still no appetizer, I had had just about enough. Since my lady now wanted a drink to pass the time, I got up and asked the host if the bar was working any better than the kitchen. "What do you mean?" he asked. I said, "Look, you guys are losing money right now." At that point, the hostess (in red hot pants!) jumps in and asks what's wrong. I said, "What's wrong in your kitchen? We've been waiting a long time for our order." Instead of answering my question, she asks "Who is your waiter?" I said "The problem is not our waiter. The problem is in your kitchen. Why are they taking so long to get orders out?" She once again asked "Who is your waiter?" I once again said "The problem is not our waiter. We like him. What is wrong in the kitchen?" At that point, the host asks "Where are you sitting?" "Right behind you." I answered. At that point, we watched as the hostess walked to the back and engaged our waiter, took him into the back room and obviously chewed him out. This angered me greatly since I had just gotten an innocent person in trouble. A few minutes later, the hostess comes along with our appetizer. That only took 45 minutes. She puts down the appetizer, says something about "they had to make more hollandaise sauce" and walks away. Unfortunately, we still didn't have utensils, so we had to look at the appetizer for about five more minutes until our waiter reappeared. Finally we got our utensils. Next, the hostess comes by and asks if there was anything else she could do. "Yes." I said. "My lady would like a Blue Marlin Martini." I was happy to give here an order just to see what would happen. I expected her to deliver the drink herself and comp both the drink and the appetizer. No such luck. Not only did she make the waiter deliver the drink, she never said another word to us the entire time we were there. No apology. Nothing. When the entrees came a few minutes later, my sister was happy with hers. My stuffed flounder was lukewarm and the crab meat topping had a lot of crab shell in it. My lady's catfish was too salty. The pasta served with both was overcooked and mushy. Right before we finished, I got the waiter's attention. I stuffed $40 in his hands, apologized for getting him into trouble and told him that I didn't want the woman to know that we gave him a big tip. "Let her think I stiffed you." I said. My sister chimed in with "We're not deaf, dumb or blind. We can see where the problem is." At that point, I looked around the restaurant and several tables were all just sitting there looking back toward the kitchen. They too had exhausted conversation and were just waiting for their orders. Good waiters, bad kitchen, horrible host and hostess, and likely bad management. Been coming here a LONG time and I've seen the portion sizes decrease accordingly but tonight the fried green tomatoes had 4 small tomatoes and scarce amount of lump crab meat with barely enough sauce to glaze over the tomatoes. We also ordered the artichoke dip with fried pasta- over cooked fried bow ties and not completely blended bland dip. A big tablespoon of cream cheese sat beneath the spinach and it lacked any distinguishable flavor. Pretty good little place. Sat outside on the patio, enjoyable ambiance for our adult party of four. Ordered the fish tacos which were a special on the board when you walk up, not on the online menu I scoped out before going (pleasant surprise because I love fish tacos!). Order came with 3 tacos, a sauce, and was pretty good. Hubby and I ordered a bowl of etouffe (which I LOVE and get everywhere we go), HOWEVER; I will not order it here again. There were almost as many chopped celery pieces as rice... well maybe notTHAT many, but seriously, be sure you like celery if you order this dish. I wish we would've gotten the cup, as we had half the bowl to take home as leftovers, which shows it definitely wasn't good enough to eat there. Just reheated it and picked out about 15 pieces of celery and will still eat it because we paid for it and it's not horrific tasting. Just not extremely enjoyable to either one of us. Not a great representing of New Orleans or our southern etouffe, but this is MS and maybe the chef wanted to add his own flair to the dish ‍Really did not like celery in every bite though :/ Service was good, martini was good, ticket was under $100 for four adults so that's a plus. Well my experience was underwhelming. The waitress was unfriendly and rude. Service was slow. They committed food murder by burning the oysters then over cooking some beautiful royal red shrimp. Shrimp we're hard to peel and fell apart during the process. I sent the first plate back with the manager but the second plate was no better,I suspect the original plate was just re-serve. Our food was not too great. Fish tacos were soggy with hot (?) sour cream and a questionably prepared wasabi soy sauce. Fried catfish poboy was bland, and our sides of french fries arrived late; I had finished my sandwich by the time they came. Our muffaletta (which was misspelled on the menu) was over-powered by ham; there were hardly any of the other four meats that were supposed to be on the sandwich. She approached him , they shared a little giggle about my suggestion and turned it off . Had it been just me and not with my girlfriend who had been wanting to try the placed out , I would have told him where to stick his play toys , go back to school to learn some professionalism and gratitude toward your customers ESPECIALLY when you have only 2 more tables in the joint , but hey , based on the other very similar comments about the place here and other sites , keep it up , pal . When you grow up and have your 16th birthday , maybe mommy and daddy can help you decide between being a fireman or a veterinarian . It's a trap! Trapani's labels itself as "the best in Bay St. Louis". I find this presumption fairly inaccurate. I ordered my usual sweet tea, and they didn't have it! Then I tried my backup, lemonade. Alas, to no avail. I discovered the other restaurant in Mississippi that doesn't serve sweet tea and lemonade (you can't squeeze a few lemons? Really??). For those keeping score, the other restaurant without these beverages is Vrazel's in Gulfport. In any case, my colleague and I both ordered crawfish etoufee with side salads. The salads weren't the best on the Bay. Old, near rotten iceberg lettuce that I refused to choke down. At this point, my expectations were very low for the crawfish etoufee. Fortunately, 'the best' on the bay came through. The roux for the crawfish had a rich, spicy flavor, but it definitely wasn't "pick up your bowl and lick the sides" delicious. The crawfish saved this place from a two star. The service was fair and open, outdoor seating on a warm spring afternoon is also a plus. If they dropped the arrogant self promoting quote from their sign and offered basic drinks, it would actually be a pleasant dining experience. read more

Ok-so the fried green tomatoes and crabmeat with hollandaise lived up to the hype. I ordered this with a side of pasta (carb heavy meal I know)and a salad to make it a meal. I only wish they had included a bit more hollandaise-but that probably is because it was so good I needed just a bit more to cover my pasta with. The sauce was flavored with parmesan I think and it was a great contrast to the battered tomatoes. They didn't skimp on the crabmeat topping the tomatoes so we'll call it even. I also enjoyed a pecan beer from Lazy Magnolia which for this 'not so fond of beer' girl was surprisingly smooth and flavorful. No bitter hops at all. The service was a bit iffy -our server kept disappearing for stretches of time - when he was supposed to be dropping something off at our table he was nowhere to be found. A poor lady at our table had to wait several minutes for her salad( which was huge and chock full of veggies and meat and looked amazing) after the rest of us had been served. But it's the coast and the food was so good and the atmosphere so relaxed( the beach is right in front of you)couldn't really get up in arms about the guy doing his best to keep a large party of diners happy. read more

We arrived at about 4pm on a Friday so there weren't many people there and the parking was easy.
