One of the good spots my husband & I stumbled upon our visit to Florence. We came in for lunch without a reservation and were able to get a table right away. A really intimate feeling interior, our servers were attentive and helpful and we both really enjoyed our meal. The Pecorino Brulee was unique & simple, yet good, haven't seen anything like this before. We got the Fiorentine Trippa (so good, one of our favorites of our Italy trip), and Tortellini all panna (cream sauce) that was delicious as well. We ended up feeling a bit peckish still and ordered a Gnochhi al Gorgonzola, and that was delicious as well. For dessert we tried their gelato (supposedly from Vivoli!) and it was a nice meal topper. House red wine was good as well. Restrooms is clean. Service is fairly quick. English menu is available. It got crowded/busy after 1pm, when we were finished with our lunch. read more

Classic, white-tablecloth Italian restaurant. The tagliatelle was good quality, albeit nothing particularly exceptional. I tried both the tagliatelle with wild boar sauce (€20) and the one with red fish (€25). The prices are a bit on the pricey side, but suppose that can be expected for a nice restaurant like this. There are quite a lot of tables inside and there was no wait for a weekday lunch when we went (although there was a good amount of other people there). The staff are friendly and the service speed is decent. Overall, there's nothing particularly special for me to note here, but that being said, Trattoria Cammillo is a solid choice for a lunch or dinner in Florence. read more

Another must try when in Florence. Cammillo is bit more upscale than its competition but is also a less known spot for tourists. Only true homemade meals are produced in this warm, cozy, exposed-brick-ceiling establishment. God I love some exposed brick. I went with the homemade pappardelle in a kissing garlic flowers sauce, as it was recommended by this regal older lady next to me who was also eating alone. I've found these opinions are to always be trusted. They serve the olive oil for salads in this cool can that I thought was a nice touch, and they also have really good breadsticks that I was F'in up ahahaha. read more

The food was not good! They claimed that their best dish was chicken curry, yet Delta was able to make a better one. Everything was plated in loads of soupy water. My grandma went there 20 years ago and said it was good then, but it has obviously taken a turn for the worst. The service was spotty, and would disappear for large amounts of time. They put American in the back, we are told that it's better if you sit in the front, but not good. read more

In a week of very good eating, this restaurant was one of the best. The unsalted bread (2 Euro per slice) with the local olive oil was amazing. I've never had olive oil that tasted like that before. I started with the arugula with Parmesan and pine nut salad and had the spaghetti with garlic and tomatoes. Very good. The Pear Tart for dessert was fantastic!!! Seeing David in a mostly empty room was the #1 best part of the trip and the pear tart was #2. Our server was great. The place wasn't that big so I would recommend having a reservation. One evening, several days into our first visit to Florence, my wife was laid up at the Hotel Porta Rossa. She had tired of walking and wasn't crazy about that day's slight but incessant rain, and she'd grown weary of me asking, "Is there anything I can do for you?," so she sent me out to find my supper. I began my search with no itinerary and no destination in mind, intentionally losing myself in the course of walking around. I'd picked up that habit from some guide book, back in the days when I used guide books, and I still chuckle to myself when I realize that the "go get lost" guy was talking himself out of the guide book business. Across the Ponte Santa Trinita and meandering through the darkening streets of Santo Spirito, I eventually found Cammillo Trattoria. A welcoming host shewed me to a table and encouraged me to relax and take my time, though the place was set to close just a half-hour later. He sent my waiter, who seemed similarly unconcerned by the time, his professional yet genial way of serving making me feel very much at home. Dozens of pictures hung throughout the trattoria (which is really more a "ristorante"), a classy touch that might have seemed ostentatious, except that they seemed to have been purchased at whatever the Italian version of a... come si dice... "yard sale" is. Cammillo comprised several rooms, some high-ceilinged, some cavern-like, and it felt like someone had built the restaurant in an attic. I liked the place. But none of these things - neither the dramatic way in which I found the place, nor the pleasant treatment I received at the hands of Cammillo's staff, nor its jumbled, tidy environment - are the reason that I've returned, several times. Here's the reason: That first evening, I was fed one of the best dishes of any sort that I've ever eaten. It was a lamb carbonara, but better, made with Spaghetti alla Chitarra. It was special, and I've never tasted anything like it anywhere else, in 20 years of searching. I know I had an appetizer, and I must have drunk wine, but all I remember is that pasta. It was what my grandmothers would have served me had I shown up at their doors soaking wet and hungry, and had they been Italian. In fact, forget hunger; the dish's sauce was the sort of sauce that you don't want to stop eating, not because you're hungry, but because you don't want to stop tasting that taste in your mouth. And here's the weird part: no one at Cammillo Trattoria remembers ever cooking or serving the dish, which means I might have imagined the entire thing. But I don't think so; the experience is too clear in my memory. And in the end, it doesn't matter. I've enjoyed the place several times since the first time. I don't care that it's become more difficult to get in, or that the still-gracious host is seating increasing numbers of clowns wearing baseball caps than he did in earlier days. All of the good things about Cammillo Trattoria are still good. The vibe is always special, the prices are appropriate, and there's always the chance that when I visit next, I'll be offered a lamb carbonara, but better, made with Spaghetti alla Chitarra. read more

hesitant to leave a not-glowing review because I'm sure it's American tourists like myself who overcrowded this establishment and turned it sour... but wow. I would perhaps consider going back to try different items, but I was quite frankly horrified by the pasta that was served. The tortellini we were told was fresh was absolutely not. This was not a matter of it being al dente, it was dry and served in COLD broth! horror! And it's so overpriced. Appealing atmosphere. But again -- was shocked by the pasta we were served. Both pastas were cold and not even close to fresh. The pecorino brûlée was great! We didn't even try dessert we wanted to get out of there! We arrived for our 7:30 reservation that we had booked months in advance to a restaurant that wasn't even open at 7:40. Ok whatever it's Italy. After being sat, we waited another 15-20 minutes to even be acknowledged... without a wine list. The worst bread ever was served to us without olive oil or plates. It only got worse from there. 3 out of 4 of our dishes arrived COLD. We let our server know. 10 minutes later, all 3 dishes came back out. Same plates. With obvious signs there had been no attempt at a re-fire or even reheat. Our server never checked back with us. We ate what we could of the cold food. When our server came back to take our plates we let him know the second round was no better. We were told there was no one managing the restaurant when we asked. Our server eventually took those 3 dishes off our bill but we still paid 175 euros for a very dissatisfying experience. I am pretty tolerant. I have been a server in restaurants for 15 years, but this experience was something I feel like I need to warn others about. Go somewhere else. On my most recent family trip in Italy I noticed that restaurants, osterias and trattorias take themselves very seriously, seeing themselves as defenders of Italian culture, history and professionalism. This pride animates the proprietors of ALL my favorite restaurants in Italy. In one case, on a recent trip (not Cammillo), the restaurant had no record of my reservation and was overbooked for the evening, but insisted that we would eat there anyway after I told the owner the other places we were eating on the trip. He wanted us to experience HIS interpretation of Italian food, in friendly competition with others. Which brings me to Ristorante Cammillo. One feels in good hands here. The professionalism is clearly evident without the stuffy artifice one sometimes sees in cities with lots of fancy Michelin-starred eateries. The food here is delicious and straightforward. We started with fried whatnots, moved to tortellini and tagliatelle and then roast chicken and beef, and ended with custard tarte and berry pie. They are pros here. Highly recommend. Trattoria Cammillo was on Giada de Laurentis' recommended spots in Florence so we were looking forward to eating there and had our hotel make a reservation for us a few weeks ahead of time. Upon arriving, we spoke with the very kind hostess (owner??), who, even when she couldn't find the reservation our hotel supposedly made (even called our hotel to find out what might have happened), allowed us to take the table of a cancellation. It was teeny but we took it and it was worth it! We had the most delicious steak carpaccio, tagliatelle with mushrooms, and spaghetti with tomato, garlic, red chili flakes. The house Rose and Pinot Nero were so good! Wonderful service and such an authentic place to eat--seemed like many local families were there. read more

We got the cheese assortment, burrata with anchovies, tortellini in cream sauce, spaghetti with garlic and cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, trippa fiorentina, and the flourless chocolate cake. We really liked everything, but we didn't get any of our biggest hits from last time (besides for the cake) -- they didn't have their chickpea soup with pasta, and we thought we were getting the spaghetti with tomato sauce again, but it was a bit different. I really wanted to try the tripe, and while I liked it, I don't think I'd feel a need to get it again. Next time around, I might want to try their steak, and certainly will try different pastas. We were going to go back for a second dinner but ended up leaving Florence a couple days early. We'll be back to do it right next time we're in town though. read more

Really cool atmosphere. Good food. I ordered the rabbit and chips. The rabbit was not too fatty and was tender and juicy. The breading was light. The flavor was very simple, reminiscent of chicken mcnuggets. The chips were freshly fried, crispy. Also these had a very simple flavor. Overall the dish was very simplistic and lacked flavor complexity. But, it was good for what it was. The tiramisu was very custard heavy. The amaretto lightly glazed soping heaps of custard and lady fingers. This place was primarily locals and had excellent friendly service. The food was also fairly good. read more

The best of the best in the Santa Spirito area of Florence! You better reserve a month in advance! Well worth it!

This restaurant was recommended by friends. We were so excited to eat here. We arrived and waited in a long line as it was just opening. When we sat down it was not long before the waiter came and asked us if we were ready to order. We said no, still looking and he chuckles and said, I meant wine. He brought the wine and then he literally stood over my husband's shoulder waiting for us to order. It felt very uncomfortable to me and felt like a pressure to order our meal. The pasta came and it was tasty. As we waited for our food, the waiter that was behind the counter was folding what appeared to be cleaning towels. Two of the white cloths fell to the ground and he picked them up and proceeded to fold and put on the stack!! Disappointing and Disgusting. Our meals came and they were both lukewarm and tasteless. I was incredibly disappointed. The people sitting to our right were complaining about their meal. The people to our left, a mother and daughter, also left disappointed. Needless to say, we would not recommend this noisy and expensive restaurant. We have eaten at many restaurants during our 2 month stay and this would not be one that would be on my list of recommendations. The waitstaff could use some coaching in regards to server etiquette. They did take 10.00 Euro off the bill and I'm still writing this review. read more

I may seem to only have a few check in's here but if I actually checked in every time I've eaten here, I would be the Duke-ess. I've been coming here for twenty years, and it never fails to satisfy. From the pecorino brûlé to the lombatina di vitello or petti di pollo al curry (with house made Mango chutney) to the tiramisu ai cachi this is a wonderful place to eat. Please, leave your children elsewhere. This is an intimate white table elegant place. We want to enjoy it without your screaming child. Take them to a pizzaria. Of course, children are welcome here. The wine list is extensive and varied. I had my very first Amarone here. The staff is just the best - they are kind, multi-lingual, efficient, informative, accommodating and knowledgeable. A last minute reservation, we booked at about 3 in the afternoon for that night, table for 5. They gave us the "Chef's Table" which meant it was by the kitchen, and it was wonderful. I don't recommend waiting to the last minute for reservations, but it worked out for us. The food was excellent, menu was in English and Italian, waiter was attentive without being annoying, like all good European wait staff are. I had veal with artichokes, wonderful, had to dig under the artichokes to get the meat. Also sauteed leeks, others had pasta everything was tasty. House red topped it all off. Being next to the kitchen was fun to see the prep, the teamwork and interaction by staff and chef's. Enjoy this place, I will return next time I am in Florence. read more

Another atmospheric trattoria to visit in Florence. Camillo is pleasantly similar in gastronomic scope to Sostanza, or, Coco Lezzone. In fact, these three establishments make-up what should be called the 'Holy Trinity of Trattorias' in Florence. Well worn, well respected in Florence, Cammillo knows what they're doing. This is a family-run operation, and they've done well to keep a healthy mix of locals and tourists coming through the door. The service team are seasoned professionals, efficient, a little hard at times, but, kind enough. Favourites I order include the fritto misto, a pasta dish like pappardelle, crispy roast chicken and some sort of salad. Usually finish with an espresso and grappa to wash away the sins of the world. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I did not find tonight very enjoyable at Cammillo. First of all, the service was slow throughout the meal, and the bread they brought out for us was rock hard and dry. Our food took about an hour to be prepared. I ordered meat tortellini which was not good until I covered it in salt and pepper. My brother's rabbit was great, though, so that saved a little face. The sorbet I got for dessert was already half melted by the time it arrived to the table, and I had to speed through it without talking to my family so that I wouldn't have to drink lemon juice from the bottom of the bowl. Cute restaurant, nice atmosphere, no complaints there. But the food was average, and it took a long time to cook, which is most important to me. read more

*Yelp says this place is closed today (Tuesday), but it was open! Came here with my family for dinner on our last night in Florence. We walked by and happened to notice it was open, so we stopped in. Wonderful food - we all ordered veal w/ mushrooms, beef w/ mushrooms, and chicken parmigiana style. If you have enough room, order dessert! It's obvious the fruit tartes are homemade. This is a wonderful restaurant, not all like the others around it--highly original cooking that is also very traditional. We were five guests and we loved everything we ate, and had food that was not offered elsewhere--and we've been in Florence for a month. Pork with chickpeas and greens, shrimp with chickpeas and sage, shrimp Livornese style (I loved this), the true chicken parmigiana, fettuccini with porcini mushrooms--even the tomatoes with burrata was one of the best simply because the best tomatoes were chosen, the best of our trip. And when we said so, the waiter brought out a plate of them as a gesture. The house red by the way is truly fantastic, on a par with any of the more expensive bottles I've had on this visit, and this is something of a tradition if you don't know this--that the house wine be exceptional. Here that tradition is kept. We ended with a peach tart and a raspberry and strawberry tart, and glasses of dessert wine recommended by our waiter, who was, throughout, exceptionally friendly and swift. These tarts like the rest were well-prepared with exceptional ingredients, and delightful. And the wine matched perfectly. Their pasta is freshly made to happily serve you. Their pasta with mushroom is a divine experience. You can taste the butter with every bite you take. The best part of my dish was knowing that the pasta complimented the porcini mushrooms so well. They literally melted together in my mouth. Savory. Divine. Delish. The setting is very intimate in the restaurant. There are two small rooms and yes, this place is packed. There's a good mix of tourists as well as locals. Staff is pretty friendly. Food was mediocre.....but the reason I'm writing a one star review: Old white-haired bespectacled waiter actually, and i'm not kidding or just writing this to be sensational or funny, inappropriately grazed and touched all four of the women in my party today. The ages of these women were 60, 51, 26, and 15!!! (the 15 year old could pass for 13 easily). It wasn't until we all had left that we realized this. A few minutes after we were seated in the early evening, a crowd of waiting diners formed at the front door. We had just serendipitiously selected this spot for dinner. So this development I felt was encouraging. I should have noted that the crowd was exclusively comprised of fellow tourists: not a good sign. I learned later that this restaurant was listed in several tour books. So the food should have been pretty good. It wasn't. A porcini risotto was described as "Uncle Ben's with mushrooms". My beef cutlet was nicely battered, but dry and underseasoned. Most of the dishes were just OK, but nothing stood out and a few (e.g. Uncle Ben;s) flopped. read more
