First they were located on Main Street in Margaretteville and their hours were so limited in 5 years time my family (some of whom lived near by in Fleischmans, others who like myself are flat-landers who just visit) and I have NEVER found them open. They now claim to have taken over the former Mad River Cafe space, but Mad River Cafe was open every day of the year, except maybe holidays, because they were near the hospital. I don't know what it is about business owners in this area, Once they come here from wherever they completely forget how to run business. The population surges during the summer months especially holiday weekends like this weekend [Labor Day]. A properly run business would be going gangbusters for these holiday weekends enough to cover half their annual expenses.....SMH read more

Excellent food, very chill place. We came here because two of my friends are gluten free and I read good reviews of their gluten free food. Unexpected surprise! Visiting the Catskills.. googled for places to eat near where we were staying and found this place with a promising menu. Hard to find as GPS brought us to their old location.. takes To some locals and they pointed us to the new location. Past it twice as it has no signage with this name. When we entered it seemed a little less than thrilling with kind of a diner lunch type place feel, but we said what the heck. Start with the bread... it was light and delicious. My wife had a lemon sauce linguine dish that was unbelievable. Homemade pasta and the sauce was incredible. My daughter had the chicken parm. Again great pasta and really good sauce. Chicken was perfect. I had the skirt steak with Mediterranean fries. They didn't ask me how I wanted it so I was nervous... came out a perfect medium rare and very flavorful. The fries were outstanding. Service was pretty good. Not a place for ambience or high class feel, but the food is better than some much classier places I have eaten in and all in all that is what will bring us back. Amazing!!!!! Everything was delicious - you must stop here if you're going through the Catskills. The food is homemade. The Caesar dressing was so fresh and tart it was perfect!! The main courses were fantastic. I got the basil fettucine and you could just tell the pasta was home made. The basil pesto was not at all overwhelming and the roasted pine nuts added such a good taste and topping. The owner and the chef were so kind! A very attractive, small town and cozy Italian restaurant up in the Catskills, and one that my girlfriend and I were happy to discover for a nice evening meal on the porch. The place legit looks like someones house, and that the owners might live upstairs, but it just so happens that there are tenants up there, alright. Very nice service, friendly and accommodating, and the wine pours were very generous and good to drink and watch the sunset. As for the food, the Bruschetta was really great, so was fresh baked bread that came right out the oven for us to enjoy so we were stoked for the main courses. However, the main courses were a let down, both the Risotto and the Eggplant were very average, if not below average, so that was upsetting...also they were out of lettuce so no salad options. Very relaxing place though, so if you choose here on your trip, I recommend the wine, the Bruschetta and a Salad...if they have it! read more

This place is an absolute gem! We were looking for another favorite to add to our Catskills vacation restaurant list, and this one is definitely going on it! The food was incredible. My husband and I shared the traditional Caesar salad to start, which was a very generous portion as far as salads go. It was crisp, fresh, and everything you'd want in a Caesar salad. For entrees, we got the Maccheroni Arrabbiata with Eggplant. This sauce was something else! Probably the best Arrabbiata sauce I've ever had, pasta cooked perfectly, it was absolutely delightful! We also got the "Chicagoland Style" hot Italian beef sandwich. Insanely generous portion, SO delicious. The beef was so juicy and tender with amazing flavor. The owner and chef, Daryl, is very friendly and made sure we had a great dining experience. So glad we found this place, we will definitely be back to try more dishes! Me and my boyfriend came to town to visit our friends who just got a house and decided to grab dinner. We are both picky (on top of me needing to eat gluten free) My boyfriend got the meatballs as well as pizza a d he said both were amazing. In fact he said they were the best meatballs he's EVER had. I got gluten free pasta with arrabbiata sauce, eggplant and mozzarella and it was soooooooooo delicious! The service was also great. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The chicken parm was great, just a little undercooked in the middle. First time experiencing Trattoria Locale with my family of three last night. At the risk of an unfair review given our meal was enjoyed home thru take-out order, I was pleasantly surprised. Everything we had, eggplant parm, chicken parm, shrimp with homemade pasta was very good reflecting a seeming commitment to fresh ingredients, clean cooking and authentic preparation that exceeded our expectations overall. I recently went here with my best friend (Teresa K. in her 5-star rating for this restaurant we well) and her boyfriend. First of all, this place was clearly a single family home which was converted to a restaurant. I think this is very fitting since they did treat you like family in that place. We asked to be seated outside and it was literally perfect sitting on the porch of this old, painted-lady, Victorian home while seeing the sun set over the mountains. The neighborhood people walking their dogs and the American flag flowing in the wind just further added to the idyllic ambiance. Onto the food. My best fried was obsessed with the freshly-baked bread. (All their bread is baked in-house by one of their servers.) She was obsessed so much so that not only did she love the bread before the meal, she also ended up getting bruschetta (which uses their bread), and also requested to buy an entire loaf of the bread before heading back to NYC. Well, what ended up happening was that they just ended up giving her a frozen par-baked loaf of bread which she could then pop into the oven back home and have fresh bread! They didn't have to do this but is was such a kind touch to the entire meal. Speaking of our meal, I mentioned that my best friend got the bruschetta (which she clearly loved), her bf got the shrimp risotto (which is said was amazing), and I got my usual pasta carbonara. I always order the carbonara because it's my favorite and I love judging restaurants on this dish because it's an Italian standard that every good Italian chef should know how to cook. I will say that the carbonara was excellent. They used actual guanciale instead of pancetta which is totally the correct way to cook it! Another added bonus is that they absolutely LOVE dogs at the restaurant. We sat outside so it wasn't a problem but I think if you really asked, they probably would let you have the dog inside too (but we never asked). The owner of this restaurant used to have a dog herself so I think that's why they are so dog-friendly. Anyway, if you are ever in the Catskills, this is one place you shouldn't miss. I will be frank and tell you that this isn't the best Italian food I've had but it was definitely really yummy. The reason why I give this place 5 stars is because they made us feel like family. I brought my girl up to Margaretville for her birthday. I wanted to find the finest restaurants to take her during our trip. I saw the high ratings and away we went to Trattoria Locale. The food was impeccable. My girl said she would remember those meatballs forever. I had the HOMEMADE fettucine with pesto, grilled chicken, blistered tomatoes and toasted pine nuts topped with grated ricotta. It was exactly what my Long Island spoiled stomach needed to finish our trip off... the chef, Darryl is a kind and very talented man. He makes a DAMN GREAT sauce, better than most places I've eaten at and that's saying a LOT considered I've spent most of my life eating sauce. I honestly wish I were staying up there longer so I could try more of his menu, but I think it's safe to say it doesn't get any better than Trattoria Locale and one of the best chefs I've had the privilege of dining at their restaurant. Homemade pasta and his blending of ingredients is amazing. Truly fantastic food. Just had tonight the lemon crème linguini with garlic and pistachios topped with shrimp. Outstanding. The restaurant feels like eating at someone's home. They let me bring my dog and gave him lots of love too. I am one of those people who judges a restaurant based on its bread, and their bread is amazing! It is crispy on the outside and sooo chewy on the inside. I kept raving about it and actually asked if I could buy a loaf to take home with me. Apparently one of the waitresses makes it, which just makes it even that much more homemade/homegrown. The owners were so nice that they gave me a free loaf to take home with me! Talk about good service - it doesn't get better than that. We came here on a cold winter night and had such a delicious meal. The bread and olive oil was a great start followed by a Caesar salad with homemade croutons. We shared the chicken parm and the fusilli alla norma. Chicken parm was perfectly crispy with fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce and the fusilli had a great kick to it (we got it mild). The service was on top of it and the restaurant was pretty empty, granted it was a tuesday night and we were very happy they were open. Seems like they're not fully heating the restaurant right now though so make sure to dress warm even for indoor seating! This is an incredibly cozy restaurant we stopped by while visiting friends in the cat skills. We had lunch here and the food was amazing, not what you would expect from a small town restaurant. I had the sauteed eggplant and smoked trout mascarpone spread crostini which was delicious! The eggplant is especially great! Main course was Linguine Con Gamberi - so flavorful, with just the right amount of kick to it. This chef knows what he is doing! My wife is gluten free and was very excited that they had lots of gluten free options. She had the Rigatoni Alla Norma pasta and I had to dig into her meal as well! The owners were very friendly and recently moved from NYC. They have lots of experience running high end restaurants in the city, which definitely shows in the quality of the food. Will say that we ordered online at 6pm and at least half the menu was already "sold out"- not sure if it would have been different if we ordered earlier or if they were just short stocked. We settled on the Lobster Fra Diavolo and the chicken parm. The Fra Diavolo was very good, modest portion, very spicy, and the lobster chunks were quite large. Would get again! The chicken parm had fresh mozzarella, but the chicken was a bit too darkly fried and dry for my taste. Solid that it came on penne with marinara.
