Hired Travelin Joe as an appreciation for our staff and kick off for the holidays. Our staff enjoyed the hot coffee. However, I would like to say it was really disappointing. The set-up was nothing like the pictures that were sent in the initial email or that are posted on their website (no torani syrups, no cute flowers or decorations). There were quite a few issues: - No menu sign listing out beverages - No coffee sleeves for the cups - Staff was not prepared - they had to borrow our table (and did not have a tablecloth to cover it), did not have an extension cord so had to borrow one of ours, and they left waffle batter drippings on the side of the table - Staff was not friendly (young lady was on her phone a lot), did nothing to keep the area clean - Supplies were not adequate --- they ran out of trays, forks, napkins and whipped cream even though we did not exceed the amount of people I had originally told you and had to use supplies we had on hand; the 2 cans of whipped cream ran out more than 30 minutes before service time was supposed to end - The toppings for the waffles were not what we expected - no powdered sugar, no jams/preserves, no biscoff .. definitely not the "gourmet" toppings as described on your website - The syrup bottle was all crusty at the top, the lid was broken, and there were crystallized chunks at the bottom (not just a few little chunks .. there were so many big chunks of crystallized maple syrup in there) so we know this syrup was super old Sent a follow-up email to them after the event and it's been a week and a half with no reply. read more

We went in to try Cali Alley at 1012 Grayson Street and discovered that Travelin Joe Espresso bar has spontaneously opened next store for their neighborhood and locals nearby. They are serving coffee and waffles from 10am-2pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If only my 20 year old self could see me becoming a soccer mom, but here I am---crazy busy but also crazy happy that my kids love this sport and their club ....so much so that I coach and volunteer my time to help organize community building events. We just had Travelin Joe's at our first Opening Day game. We earned a lot of smiles for this. The families loved the set up: we were in a tree lined park next to the soccer fields. I had been worried about finding a power source but Joe told me to not worry about this and they would provide a small generator (he assured me it wasn't very loud and he was right). We were able to have unlimited Espresso drinks for the grown ups, hot cocoa, chai tea lattes, and smoothies for those clearly not needing full on caffeine. We had anticipated a crowd of approximately 200 people. Quantities were planned perfectly and the cart line always moved smoothly. We requested a three hour window and the crew got there early at 7:15am for an 8:00am start time. I was so pleased with the organization here! I dread tardiness and I was relieved I could be hands off and trust them to do what needed to be done. No micro managing! Another huge plus--the baristas were warm and friendly with the kids and parents. They played to this group :). Their tone was perfect. I loved that it wasn't just the novelty of an espresso bar at a youth recreational soccer game...It felt festive all around because it got people to pause and mingle more. It felt like a gift to the parents that work hard during the week and then do the soccer thing on the weekend. It was like having a pop up cafe where everyone could socialize. I am always looking to find companies that I can count on to be timely, professional, and pleasant to work with. I would definitely want Travelin Joe's for another community event. Based on feedback from the families--the only thing I would do differently is adding another hour to the schedule and looking into having food. I think the waffle bar they offer may be the next step. A few weeks ago, Travelin Joe Expresso saved our 200 person event in an amazing way. I found myself calling every company I could with distress signals on a Friday night around 8pm for a coffee caterer for the next morning at 8am and Travelin Joe - ONLY Travelin Joe - offered to be there for us no problem at 7:30am for set up. He was efficient, easy to work with, sooooo flexible with our many needs, and best of all: his coffee drinks were fantastic! I'm still getting calls from participants of our event asking as to how they can contact "the amazing coffee guy" for their events. I scheduled Travelin Joe's for a work event - 90 people. They sent me a text the morning of the event and canceled. ~2 hours before the event was supposed to start. If this was my business, I would have 1) made a phone call rather than a text 2) phoned a local bakery and attempted to get something set up. They left me in quite a predicament as 90 people were expecting a great breakfast. I shared my experience with co-workers from our SSF location and half had similar experiences. KEEP LOOKING ELSEWHERE!!!! Our firm hired Travelin' Joe to cater an employee appreciate event and we had a contract with them to make Smoothies and Waffles for everyone in our office. Not only did the man show up 45 minutes late to set up without even calling our office to alert us of the delay, but he showed up with an Espresso machine NOT a Smoothie machine and came with one VERY dirty waffle maker. I found this error surprising since they emailed me a confirmation the day before listing out our firm's expectations. Now how 1 man was going to make waffles and smoothies at the same time for 25 people in a timely fashion was beyond my comprehension but hey he's "Travelin' Joe" the professional who based on his website has served large, reputable companies and celebrities, so why should I be concerned right? Little did I know!! After explaining that we didn't want Espressos (mostly tea drinkers in our office) and hence the reason we asked for Smoothies in the first place, he disappeared back to his van to get a blender. It's now 9:40am when he came back with the blender and mind you our event was to start at 9:00am. And I will mention that while he was gone I took pictures of his equipment because I noticed how dirty everything was. Caked on batter on the Waffle machine, Espresso machine hadn't been wiped down in who knows how long and he brought one Tupperware bin that was so nasty inside and out with random items and a few paper coffee cups tossed around. He didn't even have plates or utensils for us to use and our contract stated they would provide all of that. When he returned from grabbing the blender from his van I asked him if he had all the ingredients for the smoothies in his van and his reply was "No, I was just going to run up to Safeway and buy some things" Shock was all over my face. Turns out he didn't even have waffle mix with him. Now I will also mention our contract states and I quote " We will have 2 different smoothie flavors. We blend them in our smoothie machines (plural) right in front of you. Now how is that possible with only ONE blender?? At one point he even tried to blame this on some story that he was supposed to be at another location and their "Office Gal" who doesn't even come to work until noon as I was told in our initial phone conversation, was supposed to be our server. This I know was a blatant lie because I spoke with him a few days earlier and he was handling our event personally. After realizing there was no way he was going to be able to meet our expectations or his written agreement with us due to his lack of preparation, supplies and lack of a punctual arrival, we told him to pack up his cart and leave. I find all of this extremely disappointing considering the pictures and presentation on their website. We definitely did not see or receive the caliber of business that they like to show you on their website. They advertise "2 professional baristas"...we got one late and unprepared "server". They advertise "high capacity smoothie bars" which is actually a regular kitchen style blender. And trust me the invoice that they REQUIRED we pay upfront which includes a gratuity BEFORE the job is even complete was inflated in price (in my opinion anyways) now that I see the type of service they were trying to provide us. I definitely will not recommend this company to anyone. read more

This was the worst service I have ever had. I had scheduled Travelin' Joe's for an appreciation event with the Waffle and Espresso Bar. To start, we had a bad experience communicating with the company. We couldn't get a final invoice total of the expected expense until the day of the event! The servers showed up over an hour late. The owner lied to me several times about where the servers were and why it was taking so long. When they finally showed up, our event had already began 30 mins prior. We had attendees wasting what little time they had to attend the event waiting for the company to show up. An hour after our event was scheduled to begin, they started serving. Of course they lied about the number of waffle iron's they would bring. They only brought one iron to serve over 90 people! We even confirmed with them before agreeing to the service that they would be able to serve this number of people quickly. They assured us they would have multiple waffle irons and serve one waffle a min. They charged us extra for fruit and then didn't bring the fruit. The person working the waffle Iron had never made waffles before and the leader was training her on how to do it while a line of 40 people stood waiting. They only brought 1 stick of butter for 90 waffles, their toppings were store bought canned preserves, and their coffee was a joke! Their Chai tea latte was just plain Lipton tea bags with cinnamon dashed in. They could not keep up with the number of attendees we had and many in the group left without being served at all. Those who waited waited over 30 mins for half a waffle. As it took anywhere from 5 to 8 mins to make a single waffle, we were extremely disgruntled by the service. To top it all off, the servers had a "deal with it" attitude regarding our frustration with their lack of preparedness, product, and professionalism. In fact, we never once got a call from them telling us they would be late and only an hour after they were scheduled to be there, and many calls, the owner answered, but never returned my call with follow-up information. Eventually the servers told us that their manager had not bought the needed ingredients prior to the event and so they had to go to the store before coming to the event, which is why they were so late. Never again will we use this company for events. It was a joke! read more
