I was tasked with finding a caterer for our office's holiday party, held last night in private residence. We had ~30 people in attendance. I had shopped extensively and received quotes from nearly a dozen caterers including the catering divisions at Central Market and Whole Foods as well as restaurants like Carino's. Traveling Bistro offered the most extensive options at the very best price. Beau was very responsive with his communications and flexibility. He prepared a large selection of hot and cold appetizers which met the dietary requirements of everyone present. Beau manned a station during the party where he prepared fresh parmesan crisps that were to die for. I seriously could not tear myself away. He also prepared a chocolate fondue for dessert which features gorgeous fresh berries, assorted high-end cookies, marshmallows, and more. During the three-hour party, Beau and his wife, Beth, were unobtrusive yet helpful and personable. They responded professionally to any questions asked by the guests. I have received so many compliments on the food served and I really wish I could take credit for it but it was all Beau's doing. So, I had a great time here this past Sunday. Nomad, the host space, is very cute, and there seems to be a reasonable amount of parking. The chefs are super-friendly, especially the woman who made waffles. The food was pretty good, especially for coming from a buffet line. I especially enjoyed the cheesy hashbrowns and biscuits with sausage gravy. The berry waffle was good, too. Found Traveling Bistro thanks to Yelp's nifty "Search" feature. I had the task of finding an Austin Catering company for my work's Employee Appreciation Lunch. Look for: - A place that could supply burgers and fries to 150+ people - Burgers must be made to order in a parking lot...in a grill out sort of fashion - And the kicker: Let our Execs flip some of the burgers while in the process. I found a few that met all these requirements, but when it came down to a decision, Traveling Bistro was the clear choice. And here's why: 1. Beau quoted us with the most appealing price. He didn't charge extra for providing grills or tables like others, or for extra caterers/helpers. Since his company is mobile and can cook from the mobile trailer and easily transport equipment, it made costs very reasonable. 2. Beau was very quick to respond to inquiries, met with us to talk about set up, and was always available to answer questions. 3. The food was great. We had hamburgers with a condiment/fixins' station, complete with a variety of cheeses, bacon, pickles, onion, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, home fries, etc. The only exception I would have here is that we ordered cookies and cupcakes. The cupcakes were just OK, much like grocery store cupcakes, but everything else was great. 4. On the day of, Beau even had aprons for our execs to wear and play the part. They had a blast and ended up grilling burgers the whole time. Beau supervised of course so no fire mishaps or violations of proper cooking procedure! 5. The extra helpers that came along were always refilling the condiments bar and making sure everything was well stocked. Hey, when you set out free food at work, it can become a war zone. Beau Been & his Traveling Bistro team wowed me years ago at their weekly Sunday brunch at Nomad Bar, so when i got engaged & began plans for a brunch wedding reception, i immediately knew the perfect person to contact for catering. after reviewing some menus that Beau emailed us, my future hubby & i decided on some potential dishes we were interested in having served at our reception. Beau came to our house with some sample items for us to taste to be sure they were "the ones." what's not to love about such personal service? all throughout the process of choosing our brunch items, Beau gave us many helpful suggestions & ideas to make it special. he also offered the addition of plates, napkins, silverware, beverages & cups if needed, which was a nice touch. his pricing is very reasonable and he only uses the most fresh ingredients he can find--most of the time they are local, too, which is even better! when our wedding reception ended, Beau fixed us a large take-home container of delicious leftovers that we munched on for days afterwards until we left on our honeymoon! our brunch was spectacular. This gem of a "culinary experience" gives off the local aura like crazy! I can't call it a restaurant, though because it is more of a catering service, and I was drawn to the Nomad Bar in which they serve their great delicacies. Everyone that walked in knew the TB cooks, and I feel that if the regulars didn't come, no one would! Sad to see it doesn't get more business. At $13, this brunch is a BARGAIN for the quality. Not top notch, but man is it delicious for the value. Offerings are 2-3 special entrees plus a waffle of the day, biscuits and gravy, bagel and lox, made to order omelets, and hash browns. The roasted pork al pastor was a bit tough, but then I decided to dig into the deeper pieces and I found some crumbly, tender chunks of the meat. More of the roast end, less of the loin. Fell apart, though it didn't quite have that thick al pastor flavor. King ranch casserole was outrageous. A bit too rich and indistinguishable, but smoky, hearty, all you could ask for. Biscuits and gravy... this is only the second time I've had true sausage gravy, but man oh man, was it good. A bit thin, but I guess that's not a bad thing when I'm stuffing my face with 6 plates of food. Smoked salmon was a bit underseasoned, though oddly salty. All the fixins' were present though. Then my favorite part... fresh fruit. I must have looked like a retard taking a plate full of pineapple, blackberries, and strawberries without a waffle, but I'm a sucker for fresh fruit. Strawberries were SOFT and sweet. Definitely local because of the "ugly appearance." Overall, all this for $13 definitely put me in a good mood to enjoy the food. The food is yummy, the mimosa's are cheap, and Nomad has a giant outdoor patio which is perfect for sunny Sunday brunches. Traveling Bistro also does catering! The owner's of Traveling Bistro are awesome too. I also hear there is a bistro trailer somewhere or coming soon. The chef "caters" the brunch every Sunday at Nomads, and can be hired to cater any occasion as well. The brunch is a great price - $13. It's not the fanciest, but it's consistently delicious, and hits all the high points I need for a good brunch. Fruit, eggs, breakfast pastry, smoked fish, and a lunch-y meat. The most amazing value for the money. Mind you, I still love a good high end, high priced brunch on special ocassions, but Traveling Bistro at Nomads is perfect for a weekly standard. Certainly one of the best brunches I've had. I walked in and was greeted by the chefs wife,Beth. She asked can I start a waffle for you? It was like music to my ears, not to mention while I was there I heard everything from radio head, the clash, depeche mode, even nine inch nails. Chocolate chip and raspberry. There is a large table with condiments galore, it was so fun. I loaded up my waffle with butter, maple syrup, fresh blackberries, raspberries,and whip cream. I made my way back to the buffet and discovered chicken medallions with Dijon mustard, taragon, onions, and mushrooms. Leg of lamb marinated with fresh oregano, and lemon with fresh mint also sliced into medallions. Yummy cheesy hash, accompanied with a fresh spinach salad with citrus supremes and croutons with a champagne vin. Did I mention the homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, also ommlets made to order. My wife found Beau on Yelp and based on the great reviews, we took a chance. He was our own personal chef for 17 people at our house on New Years Eve. He did everything perfectly. He got the food for us, prepared and plated the meals, and even cleaned up! That would be enough alone, but add in the AMAZING food he prepared and it was a perfect experience. He is responsible, personable, accommodating, and respectful. His prices are more than fair. We will definitely have Beau back at the first opportunity we have to another party like this. read more

Had TB's brunch at the Nomad Bar today. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. The waffles were excellent, especially the coffee stout ones. There was no particular wait and the vibe was very relaxed. If you go, this is how it works, because it's not explained. If you want alcohol, go to the bar and order it. If you want the buffet brunch, that's also where you go go. After paying for the brunch, the bartender will give you a colored wristband so the TB staff knows that you've purchased the food. The only negative experience I had was when one of the two bartenders (a Nomad employee--the young Asian man)--came out to the patio to clean the table next to ours and was really unhelpful to the older gentleman who was sitting there and a bit confused by how the brunch process worked. It seemed pretty obvious to me what the man was asking---basically, How do I get food & beverages here? Is there table service or do I do something else?---and I don't think the bartender was stupid, so that leaves me with no other explanation than that he was being deliberately obtuse.
