I can't believe I waited two years to FINALLY write this review. Losing a loved one as anyone knows is a heartbreaking experience and getting the services together is equally painful. How will you honor them, who will speak, what kind of ceremony would they have wanted. I must say the death of my beloved Grandmother hit me pretty hard. I thought a memory board with some carefully selected photos would be a great way to honor her. I began looking at memory boards online for inspiration and I thought calligraphy might be a nice touch. I contacted several calligraphers but it was too short of a notice. My Grandmother passed away Sunday and and I needed the board within a few days to assemble the photos. Queeny could not have been more kind or professional. She replied quickly to my request on Yelp and we discussed ideas and fonts. I sent her a photo of a board I liked as inspiration. I bought a black poster board at Michael's and Queeny picked it up at my place of work. The finished product as you can see was beautiful. I met Queeny when she first opened her shop and I bought one of her San Jose maps. I was so impressed with her work that I reached out a couple of months later to get my wedding vows done. Traditionally 1 year anniversary gift is paper so I thought this would be a great gift to mark our first year of marriage. I got them done on a large 16x20 paper and they look so good! Queeny was so easy to work with. We communicated via email and she was very transparent with her timeline and costs. She will show you a digital draft before she does the final on paper. Queeny Lu is such an amazing calligrapher and teacher. We met her at the craft fair and ended up taking her class for beginner in Oakland. It was a great experience, Queeny was very attentive showing us everything that related to Calligraphy. Also, I got to keep the nib, pen & ink plus a soft copy of the practice sheets for future use. Queenie was easy to work with. She helped me mainly with my guest seating chart. I provided my own gold mirror and she did the rest! It was beautiful. But the only huge downside was that my wedding was in July but she wrote June on the chart :((( She offered to fix it and gave a lot of tips on how to fix it myself. Queeny did an excellent job creating a welcome sign for our wedding, and engraving a wooden box that we used to receive cards. I felt very confident about my decision to hire her given that she teaches calligraphy classes, has a beautiful Instagram page, and had experience monogramming high-end leather bags! She was very professional and prompt with her communication and the whole process went very smoothly. I contacted her asking for a quote and shared a few photos showing the type of sign we were looking for - white calligraphy on a mirror with floral decoration around the border. She was actually the most reasonable quote I received out of the four people I contacted in the Bay Area. We met up at the Philz in Berkeley so I could hand over the mirror and box I wanted her to decorate/engrave. She was able to turn around the project (the mirror welcome sign and wooden card box) in a week and then drop off the completed work at my husband's office in Walnut Creek. Let me just say .. this art shop is the cutest, little dainty place! The workshop was an introduction to modern calligrapher. Queeny, the owner and instructor was insanely adorable, funny and wonderful! Her workshop doesn't require you to bring any supplies -- she provides them, along with her workbook. *She also has wine, food and chocolates! So nice, right?! Queeny was very thorough, and showed us how-to's on certain letters. Her art shop is at such a great location. The car noise didn't bother me at all.
