I would suggest that anyone commissioning a piece from this studio maintain frequent communication to ensure their project is moving forward and that there are no issues regarding dimensions and color. Once all the miscommunication was resolved, the window moved forward rapidly to completion and as stated is beautiful and graces the house. Phil and Shelly are good to work with individually, but it may be better to funnel your measurements and color choices through Shelly as that seemed to cause less confusion. This place is horrible! The people are extremely rude. We had a large group sign up for a class. We got there, they had nothing set up. There was not enough seats for everyone. Chaos. The gals were talking to other customers. We were an hour in before we got our tools and could actually start. They gave no group instruction. Only helped a few individuals. They gave us scraps to use and yelled if we chose better glass. They were extremely rude to everyone. Then they cut the "class" off 30 mins early to start another group. When we turned our rushed unfinished pieces in, they up charged another 8 dollars to make the curved glass. Which was the glass we took! To top it off, I pick up my piece. The gal was very rude . My glass has some sand like stuff that will not come off on the back. You can't even see thru it. I threw it out! Save yourself the trouble and expense. Go elsewhere! read more

If you like painted pottery, paint nights, or other instructed art type activities you will love Rainbow Glass! My adopted mom asked for gift cards as she wanted to start taking classes and there were some Groupons available we had a group of about 10 go last night to make a basket weave design. The hardest task picking out your 14 colors you want. The instructors are patient and kind. They allowed us to bring some snacks and drinks as well. My sister and I came and checked out the store because I am thinking of doing a stained glass project for my home, and so I'm thought it would be good to come and take a look at the store, and see what they are about. Upon arrival, we saw some students' artworks and some other works that were for sale. Towards the back of the store, there is a ton of glass for purchase for projects, and we saw that they have kits for beginners and such. We took our time walking around the store, but no one asked us if we needed help or have any questions. There was one lady who was on her phone and another lady who seemed really busy behind the counter. Surly is one thing...however all I have to say is Holy abrasive hell... So, let me tell you what a disappointment this place was. I was super stoked to go check out this place as I recently started thinking about getting into stained glass as another one of my thousand hobbies. they are apparently one of the only glass supply stores in town. I could have easily bought all I needed online however I love supporting local businesses. They advertised that today they were open till 8pm...so We hurried down fighting 5pm traffic from downtown to the north area. A super pleasant hour in the car talking about how we can't wait to see the awesome glass selection. As soon as we walk in she greets us and runs over to turn the open sign off. Granted Me and the wife got there around 6. (Luckily we made it in time lol) Im guessing they don't get many young, hip and attractive people coming in that are not interested in dedicating months to becoming a glass master of the universe and are just there to buy a few things and support local businesses As we immediately got the hard sale on some 13+week class that apparently "people drive from Reno to come to" ...rad. Once the lady got the hint we weren't going to sign up for a class...which literally involved me having to say "I'm not sure if that's something I'm interested in doing" she then got amazingly defensive and started quizzing me on brands and generally making me feel a bit like we were intruding on their sewing circle - I get it..apparently shes knowledgeable, a legend in her field, but believe it or not some people might be interested in stained glass as a hobby not a livelihood, sorry if that insults your core being. my wife thought she might have been put off because I was not a 60year old Caucasian lady - which prob speaks to her assumption of my dad being a plumber. Electrician would probably be a better guess as to go with our Asian genetics. You know..technology and all.. Pretty sad. Called before I drove 1 1/2 hours to get there and was told they had a great selection of 90 COE fusing glass. I needed two sheets for a custom order. Arrived to find very, very poor selection. They not only didn't have what I needed, but they didn't have much at all. They seemed more interested in knowing who I was (as if it really mattered) and informing me that they had never heard of me (I could care less) than in actually helping me. I am a very, very busy glass artist and show my work through shows and in galleries. I have more glass in my working studio that they had at Rainbow. If they had only been honest with me, it would have saved me 3 hours of driving. WIll not be returning. read more

I hoped that my visit would inspire me to take on a new hobby and show me a new resource to get information and expertise about working with glass. That did not happen, and I will not be supporting this local business. The elderly woman working in the back who helped me was the wrong mix of information and attitude. She seemed put out when answering my questions and was condescending with many of her responses. I'm sure she knows her subject well, but if she cannot communicate her knowledge in a way that engages others so they don't feel put down, then what does it matter? I found a great video for $25 that will teach me exactly what I want to learn, and I can get all my supplies at a better price on Amazon.
