Stayed 2 nights, was good spacing. No hot tub as shown online, water damage on the ceiling in 1 bedroom. Random tape on the walls and on the bathroom door assuming covering holes or damage. There was fruit flys on the first night when we had no food in the room or open drinks. The locks are also very hard and the keys don't always work. Everyone's feet were black from walking on the hardwood floor and the carpeted upstairs. The wall had a greasy residue on it upstairs as well. read more

Every year my mom and I do our annual end of summer trek to Traverse City to eat, hit the wineries, and shop. This year our cousin from Canada joined us so we needed a 2 bedroom suite. I remembered Traverse Bay Inn had large family suites so we decided to stay here. It had been almost 10 years since our last stay here but it was just as good as I remembered. From the beginning our stay was wonderful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The main bedroom had a king size bed and the second bedroom a queen. We had a little kitchen and even a fireplace. Daily housekeeping did a fabulous job keeping our suite clean and making sure we had extra towels, etc. The location is tops with a short walk across the street to the Bay. The only thing we were bummed about was the hot tub had been taken out. They still have a large pool but it's only open during the summer months. Despite the lack of the hot tub Traverse Bay Inn was the perfect place to stay and enjoy all the beauty that northern Michigan has to offer! read more

OK. So it's still peak season. 4 of my friends and I were looking to stay in a room that wasn't crazy expensive and wasn't dirty dirt cheap. I stumbled upon this on hotels.com and we got a two bedroom hotel room with a little kitchen, pots and pans and plates and glasses included, a fridge and freezer and a mini living room for about $120. It was clean, the owner was really nice when I called to tell him we wouldn't arrive until about 2am. There's a heated outdoor pool. I couldn't believe how cheap it was compared to everything else. Great little hidden gem just outside of downtown TC. Last time we were there we stayed in 2 floor, 2 bedroom suite, for the price of a single room. Our room had a flat screen in the living room, a full kitchen with all dishes and utensil's, a dining room table with 2 chairs, a living room, bathroom, a king bed an a TV in the bedroom on the main floor, and 2 queen beds on the second floor bedroom with another TV. The communal areas have a hot tub, pool, gas BBQ grill area and a small game room. The owner is on site during the day and is very helpful with any questions that you may have. They also offer FREE bikes to ride into town, which is great because right behind the inn is the TART trail. Try it you won't be disappointed. read more

I almost never give one star reviews, but after my stay here I couldn't give two stars without a guilty conscience. My boyfriend and I stayed here 3 years ago and had such a great experience, we felt that staying here again would guarantee a happy stay in Traverse City. We were wrong. We walked in and were met with a stale mildew-y smell that I am assuming came from the carpet. I walked up the stairs and ... there were bugs on the stairs. Just standard issue flies and tiny insects, nothing crazy, but bugs nonetheless. The bathroom was super tiny, but very clean, which was nice. In the bedroom there was a giant water mark on the ceiling with an indentation around it. The furniture was pretty out-of-date - there hasn't been much of an update in years. However, that stuff wouldn't have mattered much if not for the pervasive smell that emanated from the carpet. On the day and time of checkout we had to give our keys to the maids because no one was at the front desk, which was weird, but OK. All of these complaints would have been fine if the cost of staying here was not so substantial. We paid the same cost the following week for a stay in the Traverse City area and had a far better experience. read more

Honestly, when I was told we would be staying here, I was skeptical. Normally I would have preferred to stay somewhere without the outside facing doors, but that seems to be the norm around Traverse City and the area is pretty quiet. The outside of the building is very well kept and very cute, very family friendly. The rooms are a little outdated, but clean. We had a suite with one bedroom downstairs and one upstairs with two queen beds. Way more than we needed but we appreciated the space. There is also a little kitchen with a fridge and an oven. The bathroom was tiny, but its not like we were hanging out there. We booked this place on one of those travel sites and got a great deal for the weekend. The office closes early, and was not often manned. We knew we would be arriving late to check in and called ahead. The man at the office left a key out for us so we wouldn't have to worry about making it. Kuddos! read more

Excellent value, location, amenities. Room was clean, bed comfy. Generous closet space gave us room to store the ski gear and not clutter up the living area. Kitchen space is a little tight, but at the price, hard to complain much. If the room came with a real coffeemaker instead of the 4-cup job that requires prefilled coffee bags, I'd give this 5 stars. read more

Champagne lodging for beer budgets! We stayed here off-season snd enjoyed even more savings. Our unit included a king-size ded and jacuzzi upstairs, a queen-size bed downstairs, a sofa, a full kitchen with basic utensils and linens and table/chairs, and TVs in both bedrooms and the living area. The beds and linens were extremely comfy; everything was clean; the water was hot and the heating system was quiet. There is ample closet/ storage space; we were joking that the central closet could double as an additional bedroom. And since we travel with our dog, we were delighted by the pet-friendly policy and modest $10/day fee. Negatives were few. The bathroom is small and lacks shelf space for toiletries. The baseboard near the jacuzzi looked a bit rugged and in need of replacement, and the finish was worn on some of the furniture. One of the TV remotes had a couple of wonky buttons. But in the grand scheme of things these were minor issues indeed. There is an on-premises laundry for lodgers and an outdoor pool and BBQ area for summer visitors. The motel is close to parks, beaches and East Bay/Acme businesses and restaurants. A small woodlot provides a bit of a buffer between the motel and its neighbors. This is a great value, and a good choice for a girls' weekend or family vacation with older kids who don't need to be entertained on premises. read more

We stayed here because we needed a place for one night, on our way to Glen Arbor, but it had to have an extra bedroom so our three-year-old daughter could sleep and take a nap. This place was everything we needed it to be, and I was especially impressed with someone else's review that called it "champagne lodging on a beer budget" which pretty much sums it up perfectly! There's really nothing special about it, it has a small kitchenette and a seating area with a TV in each room, plus a king bed upstairs with the Jacuzzi tub, and a queen bed in the extra bedroom. The couch was fairly uncomfortable but we didn't use it much, and I probably would've given it five stars if it had some updating and was a bit cleaner. Otherwise they were very accommodating when we called and told them we would be arriving late, and everything seemed to be sanitized that had been used prior to us getting there like the TV remotes and etc. read more

I rented a room out here for my sister to stay while she was visiting and we loved it! Outdoor heated pool, in room kitchens, t.v.'s in every room, free bike rentals, upstairs bedroom, downstairs bedroom. All in all, very roomy. Highly recommended for families to stay. We recently stayed here with some friends for two nights-Saturday and Sunday. At check-in we were told that work would start on the roof on Monday at 7:30am. It actually didn't start until around 9:15 but was very loud. I think the motel should have notified us of this before we arrived and additionally offered a discount on the second night since the loud noise started well before checkout time. I am a regular customer so would have liked to be treated as such. Other then this issue our stay was enjoyable. read more

This place was a wonderful find. It's not in the central part of the city, but it's close to the water. The motel was very clean, peaceful and spacious. My room had a separate kitchen/living room area and a bedroom. the people were very friendly. The price was incredibly reasonable for what you get. My only regret is that I couldn't stay there longer! read more

For the value, this place is excellent. I was drawn to the motel for the simple fact that they are dog friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very clean, comfortable room with unexpected amenities such as two TV's, excellent wifi, refrigerator/freezer, small stove, microwave, serving ware, pots, pans, iron, ironing board, hair dryer and a large closet. Very clean, staff is "bend over backwards" helpful and friendly. Wi-fi is fast and free. It could use a bit of an update, but they are dog friendly, so it's worth it! You may have to drive to downtown Traverse City, but parking is ample anyway. There are free bicycles to ride if you want. The rear of the hotel faces the woods, which can make it feel a bit more like a cabin. read more

Best rooms with separate bedrooms, in room jacuzzi, outdoor pool and hot tub, free bikes to ride, so close to the bay and restaurants and such a great staff. Our rooms have NEVER been dirty!! Seriously what an awful experience. The people who work here and the owner are SO rude! They lied during our whole stay and complain about other guests like crazy! They delete any negative FB posts and respond back to poor reviews actually criticizing and degrading people who have stayed there and actually gave them money! I get they are trying to save their business by trying to make themselves look better. They had the nerve to say I was filthy during my stay.... maybe if housekeeping actually did their job once in a while then it wouldn't have been so bad. I shouldn't have to go out and buy my own cleaning supplies because of the awful job they did.. along with toiletries because housekeeping didn't want to restock those for us either. As someone who owns their own business and travels a lot, this place really doesn't know how to do business. read more

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved this place. We come from Grand Rapids, working 40+ hours a week and really just wanted a quick get away. Something that felt like a vacation but wasn't expensive or stressful. The Traverse Bay Inn was exactly that. Our room felt more like a small apartment vs a typical hotel. There was a cute kitchen area downstairs that had pots, pans, cups, plates and everything that we needed to cook the food we brought with us (again, saving us money). There was a bedroom downstairs as well as upstairs. The upstairs bedroom had a jacuzzi next to the bed and it was so relaxing! The whole place was very clean and comfy. The people at the desk were very friendly and we didn't hear any noise from other rooms, it was almost as if we were the only ones there. But the parking lot would deny that claim. Anywho, if you and your partner are looking for a cheap get away in a cute town this is definitely the place to go. Or even if you had 4-6 close friends looking to get together for cheap this hotel would definitely fit 2 couples comfortably. We will definitely be back. read more

What a disappointment! We saw these great reviews and we were thinking this was going to be a really great place- meehhh. It was ok, the rooms were spacious enough I guess. Decor needed help and it needed a REALLY good cleaning. The windows were so dirty, you couldn't even see through them. The walls had stains on them and needed a good scrubbing. The dark carpet was just scary and desperately needed to be wash. The room smelled like mildew and was very buggy as well. We were here a couple weeks in Jan/Feb and I think maybe got housekeeping once which would explain why the rooms were so dirty. I was sitting in the living room one day and heard housekeeping doing nothing but complaining about their job, so from the looks from the room and the complaining, it makes sense. Besides the pool in the summer there are no amenities at all. The was a laundry and vending machine room. The vending machines were empty the entire time we were there and we tried doing a load of wash once but all it did was get our clothes wet, not clean... the dryer also didn't dry. My other major problem was the office staff! Trying to get anyone in the office to even crack a smile is nearly impossible! We travel a lot and have never had such horrible service. I went to the office to ask for some clean towels and an employee was talking to a guest about how they basically discriminate on who they let stay there. If you are young? Forget about it. In a Group? Don't bother. Sad way of doing business really. read more

I reserved a weekend at the Traverse Bay In for our girls weekend. After I booked online, I called to confirm it went through and was told we were all set. I even called before we started the 3.5 hour drive to Traverse City to confirm again and tell them when we plan to arrive for check in and was told my room was noted and we were all set. Upon arrival after our 3.5 hour drive I was told that we did not have a room and it was cancelled by fax... I do not own a fax machine nor have access to one. I showed them my confirmation and he told me that there was nothing he could do since he was full and he was at fault, however people make mistakes. We drove 3.5 hours with no place to sleep on a beautiful fall weekend. He also told us that we were likely better on our phones than he was to search other alternatives and so we would have more luck finding somewhere else to stay. I was COMPLETLEY dissatisfied and frustrated with how we were treated. I will not return. I will return to the North Shore Inn across the street, they worked with us, found us a better room with 2 bathrooms with 2 balconies overlooking the lake and worked with us on price after hearing what we went through. read more
