Mr. Shifflet gave me a verbal estimate and told me I would have the written estimate within several hours. It actually took 3 days to receive. Then Mr. Shifflet was late to the appointment to review the estimate. He collects a material deposit, be aware when you sign his estimate that it says the material deposit is non refundable. Once he cashed my check he said he would do the work immediately, but he didn't show up. Mr. Shifflet does not answer his phone, and frequently his voice mailbox is full. He does have an assistant who calls back (not necessarily promptly) , but she is almost unintelligible on the phone -- very difficult to understand. I fired Mr. Shifflet after being told several times he would be there to do the work, and he was not. He now will not take or return my phone calls. Stay away from this man, he is scamming people to get their deposits. I have now hired real professional roofers. A lesson learned.

I was outside speaking to the plumber and saw the Duncan truck driving by. We flagged him down, he gave us and estimate on the spot and was out the next day. The Maple was about 80 ft tall and close to the house. They cut it down with no damage to the property and cleaned everything up. The worst patching and painting job I've ever seen in my life. The worst work ethic I've ever observed. For instance, to reach high places, instead of bringing a ladder like a normal contractor, this guy decided to stand on my personal property without asking. Being that I work at night, I'm a full-time graduate student, and I'm in the military, I would advise him to come around 8 o'clock in the morning. He would show up around 11 or 12. No heads up or anything. Very inconsiderate. Very disregarding. Very unprofessional. And his "team" was his unlicensed cousin visiting from out of town. That made me ask the owner where he went to school for his work, his response was "the school of hard knocks". I feel like this company takes advantage of women by gaslighting and manipulating. When I would say that there were certain areas on the wall that weren't painted with the color paint that I selected, he would tell me that it just looks like that because the paint is still wet. I would wait until the next day for it to "dry", and it would still be a different color. My bathroom was blue, and I had him to paint it an ivory color. I would still be able to see the blue underneath, and after informing him, he told me, "it's because you're just used to seeing the blue from before". On my bedroom ceiling, you could see the overlapping, because he only painted one layer. He would tell me that it only looks like that because there are shadows in the room. I asked him before he started painting if he needed me to clean the walls because I didn't want him painting over dust and dirt, his reply was that that's a part of painting, and that he would take care of it. I literally saw him paint over dust. In my bathroom, you are able to see large painted dust particles that have been rolled up by the paint. There are spots in my bedroom, where no paint came in contact with the wall at all. They didn't even paint behind the stairwell railing. And he sanded and painted the stairs, it looks like a child did it. There are also places where no paint should have common contact with things at all, like my ceiling fan, my light fixture, door hinges, stairwell railing, etc. Very horrible work. After showing my realtor the work that his recommendation left behind, even he stopped working with him. Zero out of 10. Do not recommend! Take your thousands of dollars elsewhere!!! I had to hire a different company to come in and fix his work. They ended up apologizing to me on his behalf for such a horrible job done.

The team took down about 13 trees for me in about 5 hours and they were clearly experienced. However, the clean up process left me wanting more. Unfortunately the team showed up a day after a heavy rain and my entire back yard took a beating, as did the lot next to me where they drove the log truck and bobcat. Additionally, the road in front of my driveway was covered with mud and I'm in a community with an HOA. I asked Josh about clean up, and he said the team would rake it over and clean up the road before they left, which they didn't. Josh even said he would come back and help me spread grass seed and straw over the lot beside me if I would go purchase, which I did but he never showed. I even asked if Josh would come back after the stump grinding to help grade the back area and I would pay him over his normal rate for two hours of work, and he agreed. That's where the transaction went sideways. Josh was hard to get in touch with and never showed back up. He didn't call to negotiate for more money or anything. The few texts I received just said I will be out this weekend or sometime next week. Three weeks later I called and left him a voicemail and said not to worry about coming back. I was left with about 25 hours worth of work and additional expenses for equipment rentals. Just beware what you are getting into when you hire for tree services. I was left with a mess for a backyard, many hours of labor and several hundred dollars of additional expenses for more work to the area before it will be considered "finished." Might be wise to ask your contractor these types of questions upfront and avoid unmet expectations. Price was competitive, tree work was good, cleanup and communication was poor, and follow thru was lacking. Best of luck if you choose these guys in the future!
