I gave them the benefit of the doubt because other mechanics told me it wouldn't be unusual to miss that on an inspection. They also agreed to fix it pretty quickly, after we had it towed there. Fast forward to last week, this time my 2013 Rav4 with 130k miles that's been pretty well maintained was overdue for a tire rotation. They performed it at no charge. Immediately, a loud noise is audible at lower speeds and coming to a stop. Not a seized caliper, and too coincidental with timing of rotation. I assumed it could be a balancing issue. I also made sure it wasn't anything silly like lugs not being tightened all the way. Decided to call them and ask if they could take a look, since it's reasonably possible they caused the issue. I told them I'd pay a diagnostic fee even if I thought they may have done something. We are a one vehicle family and I've been racking up miles since I started a second job delivering food. I got a callback where the woman at the front desk told me "we don't diagnose things here", added that the shop was closing for a week for a family vacation, and then tried to steer me to another garage. What kind of licensed PA inspection station doesn't diagnose mechanical problems? Especially if they may be responsible? You're telling me if I am going to fail inspection they wouldn't try to find out why? Or know how to check their own work? Before this tire rotation, I had my annual inspection done there and requested regular interval maintenance, which would be lube, oil, filter change and a tire rotation. When I picked the car up, I was shocked at their price increases. I paid basically the same amount I would have at the Toyota dealership, and they tell me they didn't even rotate the tires! I'm no mechanic but I know tires should be rotated with each interval service. If you're just going to only accept cake (brake jobs and oil changes) don't bother keeping your inspection license. Nobody should trust these people, no matter how friendly they might be. There's a reason they have competitors right across the street who have been doing it much longer and never had to sweat Bangor Tire and Auto coming into town. I used to take my car to the dealership, even for regular maintenance. They are expensive. I heard people talk about how affordable this place is, and how nice they are as people. Unfortunately,that's not enough to run a good shop. They're also no more affordable than any other independent shop in the area, any more.

While other auto shops require a fee for evaluation, Dave's automotive provided it free and even wrote up a very thorough inspection of my suspension. While I did not need to fix the findings immediately, I feel good about utilizing Dave's in the future. Here is the lesson I learned at the expense of possible losing my car. : According to manager Andy who came to my place to look at the car " we only do oil charges we aren't looking for other issues". Well I had a huge issue that they never saw or were they expected to see. When you look at the top of the car to do an oil change it had oil all over the car engine. Did any one say .... You might have something wrong with your car. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! So, if they did I could have gotten it fixed . However, after a month it became a gigantic enormous problem because now oil is throughout the entire engine and my car is ruined!!!! I took my car to another shop to get an oil change and they made it clear my car had too much oil in it when they did my oil change and I must call Valvoline. How is that possible ?? SMH ! Well, in my distress I made a mistake, I told Andy I was looking for a job. He said " because you don't have a job you expect us to fix your car ?? ". No, just come take a look. And, if they only told me something was wrong I could have gotten it fixed. He again made it clear we did our job! He is right they won't go the extra mile if they see something else is wrong !!! It doesn't exist ! They did an oil change only. Solution: Do not go there !!!! Go to get your oil changed somewhere they will say something if they see something. Go where they lift the car up and look at it during an oil change . Lastly, they will have compassion for their elderly customers and not make fun of a disadvantage person. I left Andy's presence in tears..... Update: I was advised by the same store manager today "as I told you before - your claim would be denied and it was denied" unprofessionally nasty ! Do not go there if you have a problem the manager will not be supportive at all !!!

After leaving we ended up breaking down not even ten minutes from the store. We called the place and within 30 minutes Andy came out and immediately got to work troubleshooting with us, and even stayed with us until our help arrived. Not once did he stop trying to figure out what was wrong and even called others for second opinions. We ended up narrowing things down and got the car running. If that wasn't enough, after the fact he even followed behind us to make sure we got home safely. Truly above and beyond service and worth every single penny. They can advise you of the issue, but if it's not apart of passing inspection, they suppose to pass you. Instead they tell you if you go without getting the work they pointed out done, if it's not completed by them you will fail inspection. This is the worst tactic ever. I just learned this by going to a dealership to get one of my other vehicles inspected. I was advised they can tell you how long you have before the you need the work done, but let you know that it's not mandatory to pass. Live and learn! I'm going to find out all the ins and outs of what passes and what can't pass to get your car inspected. I refuse to be scammed by Mavis again.
