Tre Piatti = three dishes, is located right next to Don Chava at Calle Venustiano Carranza 212 with shared entrance to the right side. From the moment you walk in, you find yourself in a different country. The pleasant ambiance with fully air conditioned space and welcoming smiles of the staff were the best appetizer besides the one the Chef offered - delicious fried calamari and shrimp. I'm bad with names so I unfortunately forgot the name of the young kind man who was assisting me with my dinner. He explained the meaning behind the 3 plates on the menu and further shared that the menu is changed periodically and that the entire team is involved. Including staff in decision making is highly valued in my world. Everyone is part of the family and feels the belonging. I could tell it was the case. I didn't want to drink alcohol so I opted for mixed berry drink. Amazing flavor. For main dish I had a steak with Fettuccine or Tagliatelle pasta in creamy sauce, corn and asparagus. The chef asked if I preferred the steak to be precut or in one piece. I opted for the first option. I finished with double espresso served in an espresso cup. The attention to detail was fantastic and assured me of the high quality of the restaurant. I've been to Italy over 20 times and ate at high quality places. The Tri Piatti resembles such high quality! Truly Italian experience. I will definitely recommend it to everyone I know (and I know a lot of people) and when I'm back in town I'll definitely visit again. read more

This is our favorite high-end restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Having been to Italy several times, I tend to stir clear of what passes for Italian food in most countries. The fantastic chef-driven Italian menu changes every two weeks. It's a fairly limited menu but every dish I have had here has been wonderful. Intimate setting with high end stem and glassware and good food. The food itself for the most part had a trend of being a bit over flavored or spiced when it didn't need to be or perhaps it was just unexpected. Not that it was a bad thing just a different twist on things although the fish of all things was bland and lacking flavor. I will say they can make a homemade pasta with the best of them dense flavorful fresh pasta. The wine list was interesting although severely overpriced for PV standards. Starting at 1200+ (with one an exception or 2) making the meal more expensive that it needed to be. The serve was good but very pushy bordering on rude but did a nice enough job. For me it was a 3.5 leaning toward the 4 more than the 3. Well worth a visit. read more

Greedy Waiter looking to make a lot of extra tip off a large table - Such a Shame - This review would be a 5 but it's getting a 2 because of the shady waiter. Is it the shady waiter or is the whole restaurant shady? There were 6 of us that ate here last week. Best Italian food I've had in PV but it's a shame that it was ruined by a shady waiter gouging us with the bill he left us. 1. He offered still or sparkling water. Never mentioned tap which would have been fine for 4 of us. When the bill came, there were 9 bottles of water on the bill at 125 pesos each. Over 1200 pesos for water. The number of bottles of water was miscalculated as I know there weren't more than 6 bottles consumed by our group. 2. We ordered every appetizer on the menu assuming we would share them all. The waiter put 3 of one appetizer, 2.5x salad, etc for all the apps we ordered. We ordered one of each, not multiples of each. He NEVER mentioned he would be bringing multiples of each appetizer. 3. 3 of us ordered drinks on the menu. Regular drinks. On the bill we were charged for doubles so instead of 210 pesos, it was 330 pesos a drink. Not one person was asked or asked for a double. 4. Initially we were given the drink and wine menu with several options. 3 of us ordered a bottle of rose for 1450 pesos. When we were done with drinks and wine, we asked for the wine menu and the server brought a small, short, very expensive list of wines for around 4000 pesos a bottle vs. 1500-2000. I told him we like the other menu better so we ordered a reasonable bottle of wine off that. 5. At the end of the meal, we all split the tab. The waiter never brought the itemized bill until I asked for it at the end. He was clearly trying to hide what he did. The itemized bill should have been presented before we paid. It's super unfortunate that these issues above overshadowed the most amazing food I've had in PVR. As you can see, I'm so upset with being gouged, I'm not even describing the amazing food. If the owner/chef cares about having an amazing, reputable restaurant, he better get his severs in check before they ruin his business. Such a shame that greediness ruined our amazing dinner. We want to come back for dinner before we leave PV but we'll make sure we set all the guidelines before ordering. We're in PV 4-5 times a year and frequent amazing places. Not to mention we recommend a ton of places to fellow hotel guests. If we recommend this restaurant, we'll warn people. So not cool to have 6 people at a table and consider it your pay day for the night. Shame on the server. And shame on the owner if he's allowing this to happen. These kind of practices are short term and will hurt you long term. read more

Everything about this place stood out as exceptional. First impression: nice, maybe a bit pricey? But the menu was quite reasonably priced! We didn't have reservations, but they said we'd only wait about 10-min. Just a couple minutes later, our waiter-to-be Jesus popped out and said one of his tables was about to clear, so could he get us a drink while we waited. Fantastic. Never had such a thoughtful server before. From there it just kept on getting better. Every course was original and scrumptious, from the Panzerotti appetizer to the sweet corn tortelloni to the meatballs and chocolate torte dessert. Sorry. I just don't see the merit of the place. It's waaay overpriced and the portions are not large. I ordered pasta with meat sauce and the grilled cauliflower with garlic. They were good, but certainly nothing to rave about. When I was placing my order, I asked the waiter if the portions are large enough to satisfy a hungry person. He said that they weren't and that it was best to order an additional item. After eating both items, I left hungry. The tab was $400 pesos. That's a lot for a half-dinner for one person. There is a much better Italian restaurant named Frankie's that's around the corner and a block away. Our all time favorite place to dine in Puerto Vallarta. We are repeat visitors, and every visit to Tre Piatti has been nothing short of awesome. Chanon and Natalie never fail to amaze, and our favorite, David, always makes our visit even more special, and he's also given us great recommendations for our Puerto Vallarta trips in general. The menu is inspired and always delectable, and the drinks are excellent. Save room for dessert, because it is always mouth watering. On our last visit, this dedicated team continued to prepare and serve another great meal even after an electrical malfunction in the building left them without power. Unbelievable, and still awesome. WOW! If you appreciate and understand superb authentic Northern Italian food this is the place to go. I am talking gourmet level that likely ranks first or second in overall food in Vallarta. I say all this as someone who has been fortunate to dine at some of the nicest places around the world (12 times to Italy) and was incredibly impressed how good this Chef is at preparation, quality and presentation. My wife and I will be going back again very soon. To note, we enjoyed a Seabass dish, Raviola Gigante, Braised Oxtail Taglierini, Marinated Beets, Osso Bucco and ended with a Lemon Meringue Tart. All of the dishes were truly amazing and the prices are great given the quality of the experience. I will add we do not know the chef or anyone at the restaurant as I post this review... probably very unwise for sharing all this, but this place deserves the review. read more

We had a wonderful 19th anniversary dinner at the sweet restaurant with a beautiful (huge) tree growing inside. The staff was amazing and very attentive. The menu changes every two weeks, which shows how amazing the chef is at choosing and preparing his dishes. The drinks were perfect and dinner was absolutely delicious. Best meal we had In Puerto Vallarta! Charming decor and a beautiful overall ambiance. Our server, Graham, was wonderful. He was personal, professional, and truly added to our dining experience. However, the food was the real star of the show. The tortellini was the best I've ever tasted. They were so delicate and flavorful, they melted in my mouth. My husband had the chicken piccata. A classic dish they brought to a whole new level. Then the fresh raspberry tart for dessert was heavenly. An added bonus were their delicious cappuccinos.
