This was a truly unique and amazing experience, where else can you even do this?? I stumbled on this activity listed on a hotel's website as something to do in the area and thought it sounded really unique and adventurous. My boyfriend said this was the one thing of all the activities he really wanted to do so we signed up. The emailed information was really detailed on where to meet, down to the need to use Google maps vs Apple maps, which was helpful. Megan was our guide/trainer and arrived on time. She spent a lot of time explaining and showing us all of the gear to start - including us holding the gear and practicing opening/closing/using it. Then it was on to the practice tree for her to show us how to get up and down. Then we did it. Once she felt comfortable that we were "okay" (and by ok I guess I mean safe, not necessarily in good shape to climb LOL). We headed over to the old growth tree and learned a little about trees, which was really informational and I'm glad she took the time to educate us. The tree was enormous! Megan then took down all the ropes from the trees and we got to climbing. We got no where near the top when we had to call it quits but it was the adventure of a lifetime for sure and Megan was fab in explaining and being patient with us! read more

This was an AMAZING experience! I climbed trees as a kid, and was a self-taught arborist for my yard, but THIS takes tree climbing to a whole new altitude! Our guide and trainer, Brennan (sp), was exceptional. He was very positive, patient, and encouraging. If you've ever wondered what it must be like to be a spotted owl (or any bird), this POV will definitely give you an idea! An utterly magical experience! The sunset tree climb was the most fun I've had in ages and definitely the highest I've ever been above the ground without being inside a building or flying vehicle. Absolutely unbeatable view over the Willamette Valley as the sun dropped below the coast range in the deep distance. The guide was very professional and very personable (hi Anika (sp?)) *and* she carried my backpack all the way up for me. I'm already trying to decide when I can book another climb in a month or two. I never pass up a brochure stand in a hotel lobby, which is how we found this hidden gem of an activity two days before we arrived in Salem. We gift our children with experiences for their birthdays and this seemed like just the ticket for my soon to be 20 year old. Megan was an excellent teacher as she demonstrated all of the gear before having us practice the gear on the ground and then on the tree. Having us give her directions to go up and down was a great way to make us do the thinking. We got a workout as we learned to squat and pull up while attached to a rope to make our way to the top of the practice tree and then sit back as we made our descent. Now it was time for the real deal. After a short walk in our gear, we made our way to the tree that would have us 230 feet in the air to enjoy the gorgeous views around us. We were not rushed in any way and able to take breaks as needed. The view from the top was fantastic! I'm glad we discovered such a memorable adventure. read more

Wow!!! This experience was amazing! We booked the morning climb. Our guides, Tim and Laszlo, knocked it out of the park! We are a group of three--one is 17 years(and a competitive rock climber); the others are 50+ and in moderately good shape. Our guides customized our climb to suit our physical abilities and our level of nervousness. Tim and Laszlo gave great tips on climbing technique to make the experience fun for all of us. My two close friends and I climbed a very large tree named "Creek Tree" as part of my bachelorette weekend. We had a fantastic time! Our guide Megan (apologies if that is not the correct spelling) was absolutely delightful during our private climb -- very patient as we learned how to climb, and then competent and helpful once we were actually up in the tree. Awesome experience. Leo brings a great combination of competence and laid back relaxation. I never doubted the safety of their equipment or setup, even if being up that high was sometimes a little nerve-wracking! I'd totally do it again. The hike to the tree is about 45 minutes and moderate in intensity only because it's mostly uphill and you're carrying a backpack (for the overnight stay). I had doubts about whether I'd be able to do the climb to the top of the tree, but I made it! For reference, I'm about 40 lbs overweight, can't do a pull-up to save my life, and was doing about 20-30 squats a day to prepare for the trip. It was a physically tiring exercise but I found it doable and it was nice that there was no sense of being in a hurry. The views from the top were gorgeous - sunset, Perseids meteor shower, then sunrise. What a memorable experience! Highly recommend. read more

Wow! What an incredible experience. We did the sunset climb up to the top of a 280 foot old growth tree and it was one of the coolest things we have ever done. Our guides really made the experience special and with ample time to do multiple practice rounds we felt really comfortable going out there and doing the climb. Once at the top it was magnificent views of the sunset with plenty of time to hang out before coming down and hiking out in the dark! Was so much fun and memorable. Highly recommend. read more

Our 10 year old son was in heaven at the Silver Falls State Park Tree Climbing Camp. As a kid who already loves climbing trees, this took it to a whole new level. The staff we not only knowledgeable and put safety first but amazing with the kids. By day 2 the kinds were mini experts at their gear and knowledge of climbing. Each day was a different adventure and we even got a "this is better than Mind craft" out of him. We do a lot of camps and this was by far the best one yet, and made an amazing destination camp. We would highly recommend this camp to kids whose happy place is hanging out in the trees all day. read more

On my 33rd birthday to the 33rd state, my son and I finished off our week long road trip with a challenge. I highly recommend this tree climbing experience. Leo is a gem! And helped me reach my goal of getting to the branches. Once up there, it was a tranquil experience. Ascension was difficult for my poor physical ability, but I'm grateful for the bruises and sore muscles. I definitely am moving slowly today after that climb. I can't recommend how totally worth the pain and effort this experience was. I didn't think I would make it up the tree, but Leo was amazing to help me. For people not categorized as morbidly obese (as I am), I would say there's nothing to fear but acrophobia. I added the photography to the package and got everything on a sweet little flash drive. I loved this climb. The redundant safety features were thoroughly explained to me, and I felt totally comfortable all the way up and down. The ascent was as leisurely as I wanted it to be. A once in a lifetime experience! If you've ever wanted to experience a rainforest from the tree canopy, you're in luck. I'm a journalist and did the overnight tree camping for an upcoming story. Guides Leo and Megan made sure we had everything we needed for a night up in the tree. All you need is some snacks and personal layers. 5 star service (they'll make you a hot meal, help you get everything situated in the hammock, etc.) ~300 feet up in the air. You practice with your gear on a smaller tree ahead of time, which is key. I was definitely nervous at points during the climb (don't look down!) but Leo was patient and kind -- clearly has experience with people who aren't rock climbers and have a natural fear of heights, haha. Climbing that high with your gear is one heck of a workout, despite being in shape, but I think most people could do it with enough time. If you're unsure, a day climb or a sunset climb that doesn't require overnight gear are great options. read more

Had a wonderful time thanks to the experience, patience and relaxed guide, Tim, and 2 other instructors. I'm 59 years old and not in particularly good shape, with with a 'can-do' attitude. Truly awesome experience! After learning the basics, was able to get to the top of a 250 foot (?) tree, high above the surrounding canopy. So much fun resting and talking on the way up! Unique, one-of-a-kind experience! Highly recommend. No constructive criticism other than having 'Tree Climbing' signage at the parking lot would have helped me know I was in the right place, since I arrived first.
