We took our teens to climb on a Friday midday. It was our first visit and we were impressed! The facility was very clean and everyone there was wearing masks. There seems to be plenty of route options for all levels. They have a workout section set up for ages 14 and up, tables and seating for relaxing between climbs (all socially distanced), and hand sanitizer everywhere! You can rent climbing shoes and liquid chalk if you don't have your own. The person who checked us in was friendly, helpful, respectful and really kind with the teens. He took them around and showed them how to use the facility, fitted them with their climbing shoes and went over safety measures while the parents filled out the waivers. Once they were all checked in they started climbing, we snapped some pictures and left them to climb and have fun. Upon our return, the teens said they had a blast, shows us the walls they could now climb that they couldn't before and said they couldn't wait to come back again! I've just finished up my first month with my membership, and I can't believe the progress I've been able to make. It's so cool to be able to see myself go further than I did last time and I find it so much more satisfying than lifting weights. The membership and the benefits are great, and as long as you can make it down 5 days a month the membership pays for itself. Keeping that in mind helped me set a goal for myself. The climbing courses rotate pretty regularly to try new things and mix it up. The 101 Class is very helpful, not to mention free with a membership. I've worked with Jon twice now and he's a very good teacher. He's eager to find you things you can work on during your own time while keeping things focused so you can get as many new skills as possible from the class. It's been a wonderful experience and I can't wait to see what I can do on my next climb. read more

This picture showed up in my memories... my son loved this place, we went almost every weekend, we went out and bought expensive climbing shoes, studied climbing and we loved it all. This was also the place where on several occasions employees went up to my son, berating him and cursing him out because he spilled too much chalk on the floor and they were FUCKING pissed at him for making a mess that they had to clean up. This was a place he brought his friends to because he loved it! The other day I was like why don't we go there anymore and he reminded me of what those employees did to him. Rock Boxx employees... thanks for crushing my son's love of climbing. You truly are pieces of crap! When this happened he begged me not to say anything but I'm done holding back. Joined Rock Boxx because I was looking for a more fun way to be active than a regular gym. I like that I could join for monthly membership without a long term commitments of 12 or 18 months. I attended the intro to bouldering class on Friday nights to get an idea of what this whole climbing thing was about. It was super helpful to be able to learn holds, safety, lingo, and strategy in an hour-long crash course. I went two weeks in a row, just to make sure I got everything. People are very friendly. It has steady traffic but never full. The bathrooms, changing rooms, and facilities are all very clean. The route setters change the holds every week, so I have already found myself new puzzle's to figure out before they change! Keeps the walls fresh. I can see why bouldering can be addicting! Looking forward to growing in my new hobby/workout routine. read more

I just moved to Salem from Kentucky last week and Rock Boxx was one of the first places I wanted to try out. I hadn't been bouldering in a year or two but always wanted to get back into it. I went to the Rock Boxx yesterday and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, the check in/waiver process was fast and easy, and there were plenty of 0 and 1 level routes for me to do. I'm really excited to try their biweekly women's clinic, and maybe their intro to bouldering class. The only bummer was that they no longer offer yoga classes. If they did, I probably would have signed up for a membership then and there. The Rock Boxx is top notch and I'll definitely be going back! read more

I just started climbing a few weeks ago as I have friends that do outdoors climbing and figured this would be the spot for me to start training. There's seemingly a ton of diversity of routes and technique challenges. I struggled with being new, so I signed up for private instruction as I can't do Friday nights for the intro class and was not disappointed. John took time asking what I was looking for and even tried to tailor some of the training towards places I mentioned that I would be going to with friends. I've also already seen routes changed in the couple times I've been there so I imagine they keep it fresh and new. I'm stoked to have a spot close to for this! read more

This place is amazing I have a membership it costs 70 dollars a month but it pays for it self if you go at least 3 times in a month. The customer service is amazing all the staff are very nice and respectful. They have some other workout equipment but it's mainly a rock climbing gym play they have good drinks to buy while climbing. Everyone that goes there are very nice and it's a cool little community. I highly recommend trying it out buying a voucher is a good idea if you like it the first time going and if you continue to like it after the voucher expires get a membership. read more

I had never been rock climbing or bouldering before when my friends invited me to go. I have been back at least twice a week pre-covid and one or two times a week since they reopened. They keep the walls fresh and rotated which is a great part of going often. The building is well maintained and the extra cleanliness precautions are enough to make anyone feel safe during this uncertain time. Excellent experience! Super relaxed atmosphere. It's everything you'd expect to find. They have various walls with varying difficulties. I have never been rock climbing/bouldering and was not disappointed. I had always been worried about heights but these walls are just right. Tall enough to make you sweat the fall but floors are pillows that absorb if you can't find a hand hold. I recommend this as a recreational or fitness activity. If not familiar it will leave your sore! But that's just a testament that you pushed it! read more

The Rock Boxx is such a great atmosphere that welcomes everybody through their doors. You are immediately greeted by a friendly staff member and other gym members are super welcoming and helpful! The climbing is hands down the best I've experienced and they change up the walls on a set schedule which makes it always fun and exciting to try new challenges on the walls. I took my son (13) and a friend (14) to climb around for the day. They loved it and had a great time. I enjoyed the free wifi to get some work done on my computer while they conquered the walls. It was clean and the customer service was amazing! I only wish they had a more food choices as the boys got hungry. So bring a snack if you plan to stay all day. The temperature was cool and great for the boys to climb but if you are not climbing you may want to bring a sweatshirt. read more

My best friend and I are Mountain Bikers and wanted to get into a new Hobby. So we have battling the idea of rock climbing after a few months of discussing it we finally took the leap to come here. I'm so pumped Salem finally has a rock climbing gym! The routes are great and are changed regularly, there's a workout area with classes, and cold beer/cider. The staff are knowledgable and approachable. I haven't gone to any of their fitness classes but am interested. Clean facility with a variety of workouts. I'm completely new to climbing, but felt comfortable enough because of markings and types of difficulty to try it out. Staff was super nice and helpful. We visited Rock Boxx for the first time, using Berry Passes. The staff were very informative and helpful. I wasn't sure how it would go for my two kids (ages 8 and 11) but they loved it! There's a ton of variety in options for climbing, and they were able to feel successful, even without any experience. We'll be back for sure! read more

Great gym. They put up new routes twice a week and the whole gym changes over after about a month. There's always a wide variety of routes so even 0s and 1s get some variety for the newer climbers. Best part is membership comes with free classes you can sign up for. I've used it multiple times and am about to get my first 5. read more

I went yesterday with some friends and it was a blast, we were only there for a couple of hours before we were pooped, but it was so worth it! Have been going to the Rock Boxx since it opened and it's only gotten better and better. The monthly membership is so worth it to me! My son loves his class at the Rock Boxx! The teacher is absolutely fantastic with children - positive, encouraging, and makes it fun for the kids! We like the environment there too. We get a good workout and it's a wonderful indoor exercise facility, especially on rainy days. So glad we have found this place! read more
