I had the lamb kebab and it was cooked perfectly! The Sapphron rice, the Greek salad Taziki flavors mingled to a pinnacle of perfection! A hefty generous, pour on the wines and Port made for one of the best meals I've gladly paid for in a long time! The service was kind, quick, attentive, friendly, and professional, something that these days seem quite rare. The outdoor seating was enjoyable for a beautiful evening with our two poodles. We ordered them two hamburgers from the doggy menu, which were served in dog dishes, hot, broken up into chunks, and smelling amazing! The serving size was well worth the price. We will not mince words, Treehouse Cafe was an incredibly disappointing meal that sticks out like a sore thumb against the restaurant's nice setting and decent service. We went for a family dinner in the private room and were seated, ordering pretty quickly as well. They did accommodate our dog but repeatedly forgot to bring him water even though we asked three separate times. The private room was pretty, an old wood room lined with wine bottles, almost like you're in a cellar. By all accounts, it felt like we were headed towards having a decent meal, here's where it went wrong... We ordered the honey and cheese appetizer, osso buco, and their special, which was a ribeye. Let's start with the honey and cheese: it really is just bruschetta with honey and some goat cheese. It was good, nothing to write home about but a decent starter for things to come. Where it all fell off were the entrees. The osso buco was, to put it lightly, not good. It isn't supposed to be the most aesthetically pleasing dish but this looked like a bunch of slop with a lamb shank thrown on top. The mashed potatoes and veggies it came with were good but you don't order this for the veggies. The lamb shank, the best part of the meal, was incredibly gamey, even by lamb standards. Believe us when we say we can stand gamey meat but this was very gamey, just not enjoyable. It was cooked decent even though the flavor was not good. What wasn't cooked decent however was the ribeye. We requested the ribeye at a medium, we got something maybe 10 seconds away from being well done. The meat was tough, not easy to chew. The flavor was all held on the crust which made it wildy unenjoyable to eat past the initial taste you got. Again, the mashed potatoes were good but we didn't order a bowl of mashed. We didn't finish the steak, only ate about a quarter of it. The staff did knock off some of the price of the steak and gave us a bunch of free baklava, which was also way too sweet. Maybe we just had a bad day, or maybe this place is not a meat place. Either way, we were incredibly disappointed by our food, which is unfortunate because others at our table liked theirs, specifically the paella, which again makes me wonder if we should've gone down the seafood route. Regardless, we don't foresee a world where we come back here for dinner should we be in the area again. This place seems good enough that we don't want to say not to go, but based on our experience, we just wouldn't again. read more

We happened to be in the area and saw this has a rooftop so decided to check this place out and we were glad we did. We got here around 2:30 pm and did not have to wait. Place is very cute with indoor or outdoors seating and has kids menu. We chose to sit outside on the little rooftop and it was pretty cute with the set up. Service was great, servers checked in a few times which was really good. The kids ordered Alfredo pasta and grilled cheese and enjoyed it. We got a bowl of clam chowder to share and the clam chowder was tasty and not salty, how we like it. I ordered the seafood cioppino and my husband got the seafood pasta. The seafood pasta was a little on the salty side for us. The cioppino was more on the soupy side as compared to how I prefer- a little more thicker. I also felt there wasn't a lot of crabs in it but plenty of fish, shrimps, mussels and clams. The portion size here was okay, not as big of serving compared to other places we enjoy. They gave my husband a slice of cheesecake for his birthday and that was tasty. We will be back to try other dishes next time we are in town. read more

Beautiful setting and everything on the menu is well executed! Surprisingly they pull off very good Italian AND Mediterranean food and their Thai curry is so great. I enjoy the salads especially as their produce is really fresh, but today I was wanting something heartier. The lamb for their gyro is thicker than spit roasted carved lamb, but it is so tender and juicy with wonderful char in the exterior. The french fries are perfect, not to greasy and cut by hand to a perfect thickness. Iced tea game is strong ( 2 refills for me) and service both indoors and outdoor on the patio is fantastic. This is such a cute little restaurant. We enjoyed our lunch on the patio. We ordered calamari which is not the typical deep fried round squids but this is more of a breaded squid steak. My friend had a lentil soup that she enjoyed. We also ordered a baba ghanouj which had a slight bitter after taste for me. I was not a fan of this dish and would not reorder this again. I have made it a point to come here every year for my birthday since I am new to the area. GREAT location and atmosphere where you feel like you are dining on top of a tree (hence the name "Treehouse"). The outdoor deck is warm and well lit which gives a friendly and romantic vibe right from the start! And the staff were all smiles when they led us to the table and took our orders. We started off pretty strong, being able to choose where we got to sit,(either patio or inside), was a big plus. Except when we got sat, it was the only table that had direct sunlight with 0 shade whatsoever. This isn't the issue, it was the hostess who sat us. She visibly got upset at the fact that we didn't want to be the only table to be hit with sunlight while eating food. After asking to be reseated, we were told to pick a table from anywhere inside. Picked the table which was a good spot, but we noticed there was little to no customer service. Barely even from the waiter. The only people to have solid manners were a food runner and busser. The Food: If you want to go to place that utterly disappoints your tastebuds after driving a long time to go eat at the beach, this is absolutely the right spot. This place made the worst chicken Kabob I've ever had in my entire life. It was Unseasoned, tastes directly defrosted and tap water, the kebab wasn't even cut into kebab slices, they just stick two bad tenders on a stick and call it a day. The rice was even worse! There is absolutely no flavor in the food. I genuinely almost threw up after eating the food. The best part, Only One Restroom! I would've have even been able to throw up properly either! The only decent item from the menu was the Shrimp Tempura. All the food here we ate we would've made better at home and was absolutely not worth driving out here for this. We come to this area annually for the Monterey Jazz Festival and always stop in this place. We always sit outside where the ambiance is great and highly recommended. There is only one bathroom so there is always a wait for that. The service is always great. But, the food is the main attraction (pics attached). We got a cup of clam chowder for $7 and is probably the best I've ever tasted. We also got the Greek salad ($15) with salmon ($14) which is always amazing. We also got the Gyros Sandwich which is served with French Fries for $20. Also really good. If you're in the area, this is a must try. It's also in good proximity to wine tasting. read more

Tree house cafe was a great find for a dinner spot to celebrate my brother's birthday! We came in on a Sunday around 7pm without a reservation and they were able to seat us after 10 minutes. To ensure you get a table, I would recommend getting a reservation to be safe since the place did fill up pretty fast. They have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating here and a small bar inside as well. They start you with some bread (which was very good) and for our table we ordered the Chicken Kebab plate, yellow chicken curry, and Chicken Alfredo. The food was all around delicious. I enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir with my dinner and we loved how cozy the restaurant felt. Our server was attentive and often came back to check on us and refill our waters. This restaurant is a small gem. It is perfect for eating outside on the patio in good weather or at night under the heat lamps. We tried the yellow Thai curry and it was *fantastic*! It was one of the best yellow curries I've ever had. We also tried the lamb stroganoff. It was excellent. We were blown away. The restaurant is so unassuming but the food delivered so much flavor. Still pretty good and I cleaned that up! - mushroom truffle ravioli (3/5) : I didn't quite taste the truffle which I was hoping there would be more of. Also, I only got 5 ravioli pieces which felt like a small quantity considering the price. It was also too cheesy for me, but this might just be a personal taste and I won't judge the dish for that - ribeye special: (5/5) my husband ordered this, it was on the special menu for the day. Unfortunately, we weren't served complimentary bread even though we asked for some and the table behind us got some :/ Apps- we ordered the grilled calamari and babaganoush with pita bread. The calamari was steak style and came with tartar sauce, it was quite delicious and wasn't chewy. The eggplant and pita was good but not great. The pita was kind of rough. We also ordered the mushroom ravioli and the chicken pesto pasta. Both were really good and the mushroom ravioli had wild mushrooms that were delicious. Our experience here could have been way better! We started off strong being seated at their cute rooftop patio deck. However, it was very cozy with the tables placed quite close to each other that that it was a bit uncomfortable. Each table's conversation is very audible and if you have children or dogs, it's difficult to manage. The staff coming by to take your order or deliver your food have to weasel themselves between tables to reach you. We ordered the Clam Chowder, which was light and creamy and quite good. The oyster crackers that came with were a bit stale, but the dish itself was a nice starter. I ordered the Yellow Thai Curry which was a hefty $32. You'd expect this to be good given the price and the size of the dish, but it was utterly disappointing. The curry was salty and sour (too much lime) and it was difficult to eat. We witnessed a neighboring table send the same dish back as we were leaving. To be honest, I wish I did that! We also ordered a Chicken Pesto Pasta for $26 which was just okay. No complaints but it tasted like what we make at home, and if that was the case... I would just make it at home? As we are waiting for our food, there were more parties that arrived and got seated. By the time we left, it was a maze to exit because it was compacted with people. It felt really claustrophobic when the tables are full. Treehouse Cafe has been one of my favorite restaurants in Carmel--always reliable, consistently delicious, and welcoming. That's why I chose it to celebrate my birthday with a couple of friends and our pups. Sadly, what should have been a perfect evening was tainted by a very entitled couple who made the entire experience far from enjoyable. When I made the reservation, I knew the restaurant allowed dogs on the balcony, so I specifically requested a spot there. While they didn't have availability at my requested time, a gentleman (who I believe was one of the managers) assured me he would do his best to accommodate us later. No problem--I appreciated the effort. When we arrived, we were informed there was no space available on the balcony, but the staff was able to seat us inside, which I was more than happy with. The service was warm and welcoming, and we were ready to enjoy our meal. Everything was going great--until about ¾ through the meal, when my friend's pup let out a few cries from inside their enclosed stroller. Now, here's where things took a turn for the worse. A couple--whom I could only categorize as a "Karen and a Ken"--was seated nearby. I could tell right away they were going to be trouble. Ken immediately started treating the waitstaff terribly, demanding things like "Uh, can we have some bread, can we get service here?!" in a rude, condescending tone. My friends and I overheard his entitled behavior and were already put off by his attitude. Then, once he heard the cries from the pup, both Ken and Karen turned their attention to us. They immediately made a scene, complained to the waitstaff, and even called the manager over. It felt completely unnecessary--after all, the pup was inside an enclosed stroller, and the cries were not disruptive to the point that they should've warranted such a reaction. I lived in New York long enough to know how to handle situations like this, but I bit my tongue because I was there to enjoy my favorite dish--Grilled Seabass over mashed potatoes and spinach--and spend time with my friends, not to get into a confrontation with a couple of entitled strangers. It's unfortunate that some people feel the need to make others feel small just to boost their own egos. It was an unfortunate end to what could have been a wonderful birthday dinner. I love the Treehouse Cafe and will continue to return, but it's a reminder that a few bad apples can sour the experience for everyone read more
