We were in need of shade for our southwest facing deck/living room. We had debated on a few options and then came across Trees on Wheels, John and Alex have been nothing but great! Very informative on our nursery tour, to the installation and after care. We choose an Independence Maple based on John's recommendation during our tour of the nursery in early May, Due to the ongoing rain season, our tree was relocated to our home in mid July ( pictured ) the entire process was enjoyed by our neighborhood and it was great to see how a tree being relocated to our property could make an impact with our neighbors and home , in addition to the welcomed shade we have been after for 10+ years. Alex just completed the winter care/wrapped trunk ( pictured ) and has been very responsive to our after care questions. WOW!!! Totally incredible experience from beginning to end! The owner John and his son Alex were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and the list goes on. Riding with John to pick out a tree was quite fun. We drove around looking at many trees, John explained the pro's and con's of each, and I ended up buying a 25' Celebration Maple. After the weather cooperated, Alex arrived to dig the hole and was extremely careful about not disrupting any of the yard except where the tree was going to be planted. It was fascinating watching him get the truck lined up and stabilized before digging. Alex left and several hours later he returned with my tree. Again, he was extremely careful when planting it so that the tree wasn't damaged in any way and it was perfectly aligned. I highly recommend Trees on Wheels. Just had a couple Maples planted today. I was very happy with the care taken to make sure the trees were properly planted and to make sure I would be happy with the trees selected. This was not a cheap job, but you have to realize these are large trees and difficult to move and will be well established in a few years and producing shade "soon", not in 10 years. we had a couple 20 year old trees removed so wanted to get a head start on shade, not another huge wait. I liked John the owner. This is a family run business that is highly specialized in large trees. There aren't many large landscape operations around that do this type of work and I am sure would charge much much more to transplant trees of this trunk diameter. John can give you a tour of the place and is happy to do this to show you what all goes in to growing and transplanting the trees, and what trees are available. He will be very frank about the advantages and disadvantages of different species of trees, which is refreshing to know he tries hard to make sure you know upfront what you are getting in to. Now. John might not be everybodies cup of tea. If you visit and just want to see trees he will I am sure do that, he did ask if I had the time to look at his operation and as it happened I had virtually all day. You will be off road and possibly on road short distances (small county roads) to view everything, even to get to different types of trees, all a small 2 seater ATV (like a golf cart), Low hanging trees will be passed under and bumps will be felt, it's all part of the charm of dealing with a family operation and I enjoyed it, but it's not for everyone. (TIP if you go for the tour, wear BOOTS). His #1 man (son) Alex was the only other person I dealt with, he did the installation and is a super young man who knows what he is doing, I enjoyed dealing with Alex as well. They both do an excellent job of making sure the homeowner knows what is needed to get the trees established. A word of warning you WILL need to water these a LOT to get them established, but John and Alex will tell you that. I did have to go back and forth a lot to get the times all down for delivery, but a lot of that was my fault, ie calling Diggers Hotline, getting 2 existing trees removed, getting roots ground out, my installation was not typical since I was replacing 2 trees not simply installing them in an empty lawn. But I had the trees in the ground within a week, and they had other work to do too. All in all I give them a 5 star, just be aware this is not some slick city experience, just good prices on large trees. To me it was a fun experience and I also learned a lot from John and Alex. PS I rated the "price" as moderate, meaning for LARGE trees not a hamburger. I hate to say exactly what you might pay for what you want, for the size I bought, not THE largest trees but not the smallest either, I was over a grand each, but you have to realize it's not JUST the trees you are buying but getting them to your location. Mine were easy to put in once moved to my house, easy front yard simple installation. I also should mention I liked the selection, he has several areas with differing species of trees, all seemed to be trimmed up nicely for good eye appeal, you should be able to spot something you like in a size you can afford. read more

We were looking to replace two mature trees we had removed due to disease. We called and made an appointment to come look at some trees. I was a little apprehensive when we first drove in as we weren't quite sure where to go (i.e. no "office") but we went to the house and knocked on the door and John was there to greet us. We let him know what we were looking for, a larger tree or two to replace our others. He asked if we had time to look at some trees and we did. John is quite the engaging man, and I liked him more and more with the time we spent. He took us in the 2.5 seater ATV and showed us his operation. He was very knowledgeable about the different trees, their histories, soil preferences, potential disease issues and landscaping use. I found him very knowledgeable and willing to share his information. As one review noted, he is very frank about advantages and disadvantages about different species. We spent about 2 hours with him, and selected two medium sized trees for delivery. Delivery is something you should be a little flexible on. Initially John came out and looked at the sites we had selected. He then took bore samples of the soil to see what type of soil we had and would the tree do well (no extra charge for this). For delivery, my husband did all the planning with John's son Alex. Alex called digger's hotline for us and then scheduled a delivery. As it was, the whole week before delivery it rained, and both John and Alex were concerned about the truck leaving deep ruts in our lawn, so they asked if we could put it off a week. Weren't too concerned about ruts, but since John and Alex were, and we were flexible we agreed. Day of delivery: we had our trees delivered on two different days. The first day Alex came out and delivered the first tree. He took time and care to make sure it was set well in the hole and the tree was straight. He took the plug for the next tree, and before leaving made sure the hole was covered and fenced off so no one could fall in it. Delivery of the second tree was smooth. Again, Alex took the time to be sure the tree was set properly in the hole and was straight. He took the time to review care instructions (also in detail on their website) and even looked at one of our other trees and gave me pruning recommendations. He was very polite and pleasant to work with. All in all we are very happy with Trees on Wheels. The owner and his son are very down to earth, they are up front and will be honest with you. They don't just try to sell you "a tree" like some nurseries do, they try to make sure you get the best tree for your property and soil type. If you go in with an open mind and enjoy learning about the trees you may purchase, this is the place to go. We will definitely be recommending them to our friends and family! read more

It's unfortunate but I can not say a good thing about this company. The owner is very odd, they do not stand behind their trees or "warranty", they are difficult to get a hold of, they are unorganized, do not come when they are scheduled to come and deliver trees, and gave us the wrong tree. We've been arguing with this company for four years about poor product and undelivered product. I now give up. Save yourself the stress and money and find another company to purchase large trees from. read more

Be warned - we had a bizarre and uncomfortable interaction with this company. My guy called one day to inquire about coming out to see the trees and start the process of buying one. The adult son of the owner told us that would be fine and we said that we would call in the morning to let him know we were on the way. So far, so good. The uncomfortable part happened when we called the next day. We spoke to the owner then and explained we were hoping to come out and ask if the time was ok. His next question was "what do you do for a living?" While that's none of his damn business, my guy did answer that he was an attorney. To which the owner replied "We don't do business with defense attorneys." My guy is NOT a defense attorney. But we informed him we would buy a tree elsewhere. read more

I called them about getting a tree moved. The guy who answered the phone (who I later found out is the son of the owner) was very rude. He quoted me a a super high price of $800 and I got the sense I was bothering him by calling and he didn't want my business at all. I later talked to his dad and he gave me a much more reasonable price. When I made the final call to schedule I got the son again and he gave me the same crappy attitude as before and said the price his dad gave was wrong and his was right. My husband and I wanted more mature trees for our new yard. We chose Trees on Wheels for their commitment to the customer, quick service/delivery and a large selection of mature trees. John gave us a couple of tours of the tree farm, explained the history of the trees, benefits and disadvantages of certain trees and helped us select the best tree for our needs. They came to install the tree with a very short advanced notice. Alex was very personable and passionate about the trees and transplanting conditions. Our soil was extremely rocky and Alex spent several hours deep in the hole chiseling out the rocks by hand. He was determined to have the perfect hole for the new tree. The next day Alex arrived with the tree and it was a perfect fit to a well dug hole! He gave me a handout on tree care, the trees warranty and contact info for the future. Once the tree was in the ground there was some extra soil and rocks that I needed to remove and clean up. We would recommend Trees on Wheels for good prices and quick friendly service. If you use this local company remember that they are working along with Mother Nature and will do their best to provide you with the best tree for your yard in a timely manner. read more

In the spring of this year we contacted Tree's On Wheels to check out the possibility of a large tree purchase. I had talked to the son, he said to come out and his father would be glad to help us out with a tree purchase. That he did. Now that it is autumn are choice was spectacular , thanks to John's help. We had to have the tree on a certain day because we were having our driveway repaved. They met the deadline perfect. Tree's on Wheels is an outstanding organization.
