BUYER BEWARE. This business is running a true scam - please be very careful with this very shady operation. IMO and based on my experiences there, they will almost certainly rip you off, without you even knowing it! They insult you if you do not agree to buy what they demand you buy. Specifically, parts-guy Gary, service-manager George, and store-manager Kuhfahl aggressively pressured (and I do mean PRESSURED, almost forced!) me into buying parts and services that were completely unnecessary, and when I confronted them, they acted like any kid caught in the cookie jar. Guilt beyond any conceivable doubt, but narcissistic denial was their predictable reaction. This was a scam, pure and simple. They scammed me, and when I confronted them ***with evidence from other mechanics*** the owner flat out denied all culpability!! IMO, avoid dealerships like this. Plain and simple. Excellent customer service! We went in for a Bontrager top tube box aka bento box for a new Trek Checkpoint SL5. I had read reviews suggesting that this box doesn't usually fit, but wanted to go for it anyway because of the sleek design. Long of the short. We rode to the Broomfield Trek because we have always had great experiences there. Bought the box. Tried installing it in the store, and Josh (think that was his name) took over and made a potentially frustrating experience a pleasant one. He went above and beyond by teaming up with some of the shop folks in the back to get it done on the spot. This makes us want to make the drive from Boulder to Broomfield for everything bike related. Your basic local bike shop, well staffed and friendly. I stopped in to look for a new set of shoes and pedals this weekend. They had the pedals I needed but unfortunately not the shoes. Not their fault however- there's been a run on bike equipment during the virus shutdown. The place is large for a bike shop and they had a good selection of ebikes on display as well as some mountain and road bikes. Overall fantastic experience with this establishment. My girlfriend and I just moved to Broomfield in March 2021. We visited on a Saturday afternoon in April to browse for a couple of bikes. Ian the sales manager greeted us with a friendly smile and demonstrated a few bikes. Their selection of regular mountain bikes and hybrids was particularly limited, just like every bike shop struggling to keep inventory available currently, but they had a few e-bikes. Luckily for us, we were leaning towards e-bikes anyways. Ian was very knowledgeable and answered every question we asked or didn't think to ask. We returned the next morning and Sam was just as friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Even though I indicated I spoke to Ian the prior day and I was ready to buy one of their bikes, he proceeded to discuss every detail about the bike I wanted, encouraged another test ride, and assisted with finding the right accessories. It was a rare pleasure to speak to salesman who know as much about their product as these guys. I wasn't planning on spending a large amount of money on a bike before we visited, but the subsequent visits to other retailers that weekend, the test rides on the Trek mountain e-bike I ultimately purchased, and the customer service of this shop convinced me to go for it. read more

These guys told my wife that they'd take a look at her Bontrager tire for free. Then she got there to pick it up after they failed to fix it, and told her it would be $30. Then the store manager comes over and ups it to $42. Absolutely terrible. I love Trek bikes, but this is completely unacceptable. This is the second time I've had a terrible service experience with the store, and I just can't stand it. Go to any other Trek if you also like them, and Trek, please fix this store. I came here to build the bike of my dreams..I sourced most of the major parts on my own (frame, group, wheels, etc) and needed a shop to build it perfectly. Golden Bear came through and built my bike to the T..we even got the basic fit set up off my old bike's measurements. The best part? The bike was ready just in time for a group ride on Friday morning and then an awesome race Sunday afternoon. If you're a woman, don't waste your time. When I moved to this neighborhood back in 2008, this was Golden Bear Bicycles and I was excited to have a bike store within walking distance. When my female friend and I went in, we were the only customers but not a single employee (all men) acknowledged us. It was like we were invisible. After several minutes, a male customer came in and he was greeted and helped immediately. We walked out and never went back. When I saw that this was now a Trek store, I decided to give it another chance as it would really great to have a bike place I could count on so close to my house. The same female friend and I walked over there after work. There were three male employees in the store and one customer, also male. One employee was on the phone - perfectly fine. One was working with the customer - also fine. The third was working on a bike on a rack in the middle of the store. Not one of them looked at us. We stood there for a few moments but after realizing that was futile, we went to look at cycling clothing at the back of the store. After a few minutes, I had a couple of questions about some cycling shorts I'd seen so we went to the front of the store with the intention of getting some help. The guy on the phone was still on the phone and the guy helping the customer was still doing that. No problem. That left the guy working on the bike. As we approached, he slowly looked up at us, didn't smile or say a word. Then his eyes slid off of us with a look I can only describe as contempt, and he went back to working on the bike. It was degrading and insulting. We walked out and we will never go back. There are some great bike shops in the Front Range that actually treat customers like human beings. Chain was slipping on my bike. Told guy behind the service counter and he said to bring it in. He put my bike on the stand and adjusted the chain for no charge. I've tried a number of bike shops in this area as a new transplant, and they all left a bad taste in my mouth. GB bucks the trend by being super friendly, helpful, and supportive. I came in after busting a shifter (don't ask - not my finest hour). Frank worked with me to find a good replacement for this 25+ year old piece of equipment, and even recognized the rare make of my bike and had great stories about it! They're slammed with repairs right now, but if you want to do it yourself, they'll take the time to walk you through the process. I had a very good experience at Golden Bear recently. I had a brake lever that stopped working on my trail bike, and hoped to get it replaced fast so that I could have it back soon enough for a trip to Moab that I had already planned. Even though I didn't buy the bike from them, and it I bought it about 1.5 years ago, they went out of their way to see if SRAM would warranty it. Sure enough, they got me a warranty replacement, and I only had to pay the labor to swap it out. I was pretty much resigned to riding my hard tail in Moab, but they turned it around very quickly and got it back to me sooner than expected and I rode it in Moab! The mechanics are always very knowledgeable when I have gone in, and very helpful and personable. read more

I clearly had a much different experience than most. While the staff was generally friendly and courteous, the quality of the work is simply unacceptable. I have an old Specialized FSR that had been sitting in the garage for years. The bike has very few miles on it - bought it, injured my shoulder, stopped riding. I just started riding again this summer and figured I'd get this bike tuned up and start riding it again, as well. I took it in for the basic tune-up and to fix the front hydraulic brake, which wasn't releasing. Without attempting any kind of repair, I was told I needed a whole new brake. I don't know enough to question whether that was true, so I bought the new brake. About a week and a half later, they tell me the bike is ready so I go pick it up and bring it home. I ride it up and down the alley to test it out and the rear brake locks up. I take it back to Golden Bear and they tell me they'll take a look and let me know what's going on. About 10 days later, I get the notification that the bike is ready. I go pick up the bike and they've already installed a new brake on the rear. I would have approved it anyway, but they really should have told me they were going to replace the brake before doing so and charging me $98. I picked it up for the second time and took it home. I ride up and down the alley and hear a clicking noise coming from the front tire and a rubbing noise coming from the rear. There were a few other minor issues I noticed as well, such as the fact that they hadn't aligned the brake levers and gear shift paddles symmetrically. So I took it back for the THIRD time. Before doing so, I ran a quick Google search and found numerous articles and videos showing it was a relatively simple fix to repair a hydraulic brake. I expressed my frustration with continuing issues and shared that I had found videos saying the brakes probably could have been repaired. They credited me the labor for installing the new brakes, which I appreciated, but I still think I unnecessarily purchased new brakes. Today, I went and picked up the bike again. The staff was very friendly and told me they test rode the bike and that everything was great. I get the bike home and get ready to take it out for a quick test only to realize that the front tire is almost flat. The standard tune-up is supposed to include: -Complete and thorough washing of bicycle = the bike wasn't washed at all (it's a mountain bike so I don't care if it's dirty, but I paid to have it washed) -Adjust and lubricate brakes (front and rear) = both brakes were completely replaced so this doesn't really apply -Adjust and lubricate derailleurs (front and rear) = seem to be working fine, so I'll assume they did this. -Adjust headset and bottom bracket = can't tell if anything was done here -True and tension wheels off bike (front and rear) = I still see a wobble in the rear wheel, but they say it's the tire not the rim -Lube chain and cables (replaced if necessary, parts and labor extra) = doesn't look to me like the chain was lubed, looks dirty to me -Complete safety examination = I don't know what this is supposed to entail, but both the front and rear shocks were almost completely out of air and nothing was said. Maybe it's just me, but that seems dangerous. So I've now taken my bike in three times, spent about $200 and have no confidence the bike is actually safe to ride. At this point, I think I have to eat the money I spent at Golden Bear and take my bike to another shop. read more

I recently took my custom built titanium gravel bike in for an annual tune up. In the past I bought a trek road bike, had several tune ups, and felt I had a great relationship with Frank, the previous owner of this shop. Yesterday was the first time I brought in this bike for a level 2 tune $175 with $50 off coupon for the month of February. After looking over my bike and a few suggestion my bill was at almost $1000. This included 4 rotors (I have two sets of wheels that the technician never even looked at one set), 2 cassettes, 2 break pads, among other things. My bike is not even 3 years old. How were all these higher end things wearing out so soon on my bike? Off to another shop for a second opinion. Yep this Trek shop was up selling me on components that were not needed. I confirmed that since this shop was bought by trek it is all about up selling to the unsuspecting. Never again will I walk in this establishment for even a CO2 cartridge. If there was a no star rating I would give that. read more

I don't know what you guys were thinking when you cleaned my bike, but you have completely detuned it. None of the gears change properly anymore, and the chain keeps falling off. I'm thinking someone started tuning it, but because I didn't ask for a tune up he must have stopped it half way. Did you take the chain out to clean it? The chain for the shimano 9000 only goes in one way. Also. There is no lubricant on any of the chain or gears, I would think that's part of cleaning a bike right? Finally, you also lost two bottle cage screws when you shipped the bike. Next time please check the work of the new guy before signing off on it. read more

Went in only to get a new set of handlebars for my knock around bike. They tried to sell me a tune up, new parts (other than handlebars). The total was more than twice what I had paid for the bike itself. When I told them no thank you, I just need the handlebars their attitude went downhill fast. Then they told me that they did not have them in stock and I would have to come back in two weeks. Those that are getting great service, it's because they are making good $$$ off you. I'm a meticulous researcher when it comes to spending my money, both on the product and the establishment. I bought a bike here for my teenaged son a couple years ago and Frank walked me through all my questions. I've visited a few times since to get accessories for both my son's bike and mine, and to effect repairs when needed. Two weeks ago, I called because one of the tubes wouldn't inflate and it seemed to be a problem with the valve stem. Frank tells me "No problem, bring it in this evening and we'll take care of it". As I was standing at the register updating my order I saw the most amazing plate of BBQ ribs back in the shop. I made a comment about trying to hurry so the man helping me could go eat up. Much to my surprise and enjoyment I was invited back to partake myself. Who does that these days? However I felt I was greeted quickly and helped within moments of being in the store. I felt welcome to ask questions and felt I got honest answers. I was looking for a specific tool and specific parts and they found them quickly when asked about my project the guy from Michigan told me all about his experience with a simliar situation ( I'm moving to Chicago.)
