I recently took my bicycle in for service and repair. I was greeted with some very friendly faces and excellent service and communication. The estimate & inspection was completely free and helped me gauge the approximate cost and what needed to be done. I elected to pretty much conduct all the repairs and fixes to my bike, knowing the quality and performance of parts I would be receiving. Went in looking to get back into biking. Clay, a serviceman, took the time to help me out by answering questions that I had as well as singling out what was best for what I wanted out of a bike. I never felt the pressure of being upsold, and overall it was a great experience. This is a great bike shop where you can purchase a new bike, get your old bike serviced, buy accessories, ask questions to qualified staff. I bought my bike here and moved out of state so when I was visiting now five years later I brought my bike with me to be serviced. The young lady I talked to was very polite and thorough in inspecting my bike and told me when it would be ready even though it was a holiday week (4th of July). Cost-wise, it was less than I thought it was going to be which is always a good thing. And it was ready when they said it would be ready and they gave me a courtesy call to come and pick it up. read more

So I go into the trek store today. I'm greeted by this girl who was nice and friendly and I asked her if she could give me some info on hybrid bikes. I've been researching them and because trek has like 10 different models I thought they could help me figure out which best meets my needs. I mean that's their job right? Apparently No. This nice girl who greeted me was with another customer so she calls this guy over to help me. He looks at me like he has no more desire to help me than he does to take a poop. I thought well this is not going to go well. So he walks toward me and asks me "Are you going to test ride and buy today? Cuz if not I'll just give you this catalog." He was as helpful as herpes. And trek totally lost a sale. If I'm spending thousands on a damn bike they could at least help me pick out the right one. WOW!! Talk about THEFT!! My bicycle needs some routine maintenance...the person I spoke with at Trek Schererville informed me that they have car side pick up...ok...and charge $40 to SANITIZE the bike?!?!? There was no mention that it would be a credit if work was performed to the bicycle Unfreaking believable!!! Avoid! Bought a new bike here last year. Picked it up, road 20 miles home. On the way noticed the gears were horribly indexed. Skipping gears, changing gears with no input, etc. Took it back for the free lifetime basic checks (more on that later) and got it taken care of. This spring I took it back in to have it looked over, re-index the gears, change the blender stem attachment. After service, the gears are indexed ok but, the handlebars are in a different position and not even centered on the stem. Add on to that the free checks are no longer valid because Trek of Scherrillville was bought by Trek. Without the perk of free basic service (large reason I bought a Trek in the first place) and the type of service I have received I will not be returning. Go to a small local bike store that cares about bikes and doesn't have kids turning wrenches just for the summer. read more

If you're looking to buy a new bicycle at a reasonable price, and looking for honest advice from someone who is not looking to eat away at your wallet...then Trek is not the place for you. I picked up this beautiful French racing bicycle from a county-wide rummage sale. The only thing it needed was a set of new tires. I go to Trek and ask for help and they set me up some tires. The cheapest they had was $35/tire. So I buy them. One day while I'm riding my bicycle on the trail I run into this man who sat with his toolbox (bike-tools) on a bench, along with a bike-pump, and usually with someone to talk to. I show him the bicycle and he tells me that I could have gotten the tires for $20/each online, and that the tire's innertubes, for a road bike, were not supposed to have long valve-stems. He said only mountain bikes were supposed to have the longer valve stems, and that they snap off really easily. So basically, Trek sold me the incorrect innertubes for my tires and a more expensive price, as well as ripped me off on the tires. The only positive thing I can say about them is that they have a free bike-newspaper/journal you can take, a free bike-trail map for the area, and sometimes will give you free valve-stem caps. I was referred to "nashbar.com" and "performance.com" for bike parts, as well as a better shop out in valpo named after some guy. read more

Fantastic place to buy a bike! The staff is extremely knowledgeable about all of the bikes in the store. They sell Trek and Gary Fisher. They have a full range of bikes that will fit any lifestyle, everywhere from a little kid's first bike to a cruiser, urban, mountain or road bikes (The best in the world). The repair staff is fantastic and they don't mess around. Come on, Lance Armstrong rides the same bike these people sell, so they cant be too bad. Haha. read more

Very cool place! I have been to a lot of bike shops and this one is the best. Employees are always ready to help me with tips and advice. I have bought bikes for my entire family. Their kids bike trade in program is awesome. If all you want is cheap with no help, go online. If you want knowledge and someone to back what you bought, go to Trek. Bought a bike as a surprise for my wife. She rode it for a month and told me it was too big (my mistake). Brought it back and the guys did not hesitate to give me a new one in the right size! I didn't expect that and I will always go back there. As a side note, I have run into the homeless guy on the bike path and he likes to bad mouth all of the local shops for some reason. If he just put the same energy into finding a job, he would be better off. read more

I bought my Navigator 2 over three years ago, staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Have had it in the store on a few occasions to have minor work done, very professional and have done it same day each time. This past week I damaged the frame, took it in to the shop, they looked at it and told me they would submit it to Trek for warranty and would get back to me in 24-48 hours. Less than 48 hours I am riding my brand new bike that replaced my damaged one. No charge, no hassle - here is your new bike, enjoy. They even took the time to mount all of the accessories. I also appreciate that they unlocked the door for me at 7:00 instead of waving as I pulled up, telling me their closed. Trek stands behind and supports their products. The folks at this store are all cyclists and invest in the community - they know their stuff - yes it may be a little "pricey" but you get what you pay for - a quality bike that they stand behind. read more

Terrific bike store. I have purchased several bikes over the years. My latest is a Project One. Love it! The service is exceptional and the sales staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I never felt pressured. They went above expectations when helping with my cycling needs. Looking forward to a flat tire changing class in January. I received a used bicycle from a friend so I called Trek to discuss if I should repair it or not. Allen, an employee, was polite and answered all my questions with patience. When I brought the bike to the shop I was greeted by Allen with a smile and again he spent time explaining everything. In the end the bike was worthless and he offered to throw the bike away for me. I originally came in here to look at building a bike and worked with Alan on the various options. He was amazing, super helpful and honest. I ultimately decided that building a bike wasn't the best way to go and they were really understanding despite the effort they had put into helping me with the build specs. I returned to the store to look at purchasing a bike and was again helped by an extremely helpful woman, whose name I didn't catch, but she thoughtfully explained my options and what the various features of the bikes offered. This is a long review to say how great the customer service is at this place. read more

I went in to have my 1996 Cannondale R500 tuned up and tires replaced. I was told by the guy in repair that the Shimano RSX shifters were known for problems with grease that dried up, rendering them inoperable. He told me that in a couple of weeks new shifters would be out and I could come back, have the shifters, front crank and rear crank replaced (because 3x21 is no longer supported he said) and it would cost around $500 to do the work. I took the bike home, disappointed, but then looked the problem up on Google. $11 later after buying a can of WD-40 and a can of White Lithium Grease, my "dried up" shifters magically started working. Took the bike to another shop, spend $100 on new tires and tubes and my bike works like a champ. If they give you some astronomical price on repairs and tell you things need replacing, check with another shop. This one reminds me of a shady used car salesman. read more

I began to bike ride again and needed my 1982 Swinn LeTour checked out before setting out on the road. The bike hasn't been ridden in 30 years. I stopped by the store in Schererville in need of a bike rack for the car so I could drop off the bike for it maintenance inspection. I got the bike rack and the woman who checked me out even helped install it on my car. That was great. Friday afternoon, 4/7, got the bike loaded and dropped it off at the store for the 10 minute inspection All was great except the bearings in the front fork needed to be re-greased or replaced. Total price: $50. Cool. It would be ready on Monday, 4/10. Cool. Monday, 4/10, about 5pm, I called to see if the bike was ready and was told they are still working on it and that they will call when it's done. The guy even seemed annoyed that I called. Hmmmm. It's now Wednesday, 4/12, around 10:15am and no call and no bike. If there is a problem, let me know. UPDATE 4/12: I called them around 2pm, bike is ready. Did not receive the promised call from them that the bike was ready. Went to pick it up, paid the $50 and one of the techs hung the bike on the rack for me. I wish they would have cleaned it up a bit, though. Rims still dirty. I guess that's not part of the tune-up service. read more

I walked in reluctantly, not especially in the mood for bike shopping. I'm so glad I did. I tried a few bikes including a hybrid, a few road bikes etc. The staff was super patient, making sure each of the 5 + bikes I chose were road ready. They customized it for a comfy ride each time and sent me on my way with well wishes. I went back and forth trying to decide but ultimately ended up with an unexpected choice but I'm incredibly happy I made an informed decision and can't wait to take it for a long journey. They are very knowledgable, helpful and accommodating... Just a little pricy. But you get what you pay for read more

Although there's a Trek dealer where I live in Valparaiso, I've driven the 20+ miles to Schererville to buy our last three bikes. The Schererville staff/store is head and shoulders above any other bike store in the area in my experience. Good inventory, knowledgeable, walk-in service if possible, and a nice store. I've only gone in for service twice in 10 years, but their service guys know bikes. I bought several bikes in Chicago before the Schererville Trek store opened, but it's not worth the drive any more. read more

Very cool place! Not a bike "shop". Went in for some shoes @ Fleet Feet next door and wandered over to see what they're about. The place was crazy busy and had to wait about 5 minutes to get helped. When I did, I told the salesperson I was not buying and she still spent all the time I wanted to tell me all about the bikes and clothing! Nice! Went there to get an older bike fixed. The tire was messed up and I needed it fixed. I was quoted a price of $17 total for parts and labor. I was also told it would be 15 minutes or so. I went shopping next door and returned 30 minutes later only to be told it would be another 20 minutes or so. I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't mind. I told them I was going to run and do some shopping and come back. When I returned, I was told that they had to replace my tire instead of fixing it so it was going to be $45 instead of the quoted $17. I am annoyed that I didn't get a phone call to verify the work prior to it being done but I didn't want to be a jerk so I didn't say anything except that I would have appreciated a phone call to let me know about the additional cost and pieces necessary. The guy says that he would have called but didn't have my number. Again I drop it and figured it isn't that big of a deal. What made me mad though was when they brought my bike out, a piece of paper with my name and number was prominently displayed across the handlebars. I still didn't say anything but just decided to let it go. I started to take my bike out to my car and struggled visibly to get it out while several employees watched. I recently had hand surgery and my hand is wrapped but no one offered to even hold the door. A nice fellow customer held the door open for me and even offered to help me load my bike on my vehicle while the employees just stood there. At this point, I decided to speak to a manager, and, no surprise, had to wait. I stood there for about 8 minutes being totally ignored. I finally spoke to the manager who was apologetic but offered no remedies. I didn't exactly expect anything but a sincere apology and an invitation back would have went way further than the lame excuses I was offered. There are plenty of other bike shops in the area.and I would recommend them before returning here. read more
