Oh Hello Charming, I'm Thirsty... This is a really cute wine bar. Good appetizers (be warned, they are big portions) and good wine. They have a few odd rules that I think they need to work out, ie) must be at the bar to do the tasting? They make it a little difficult to buy a bottle. etc. Granted, they had just opened when I was there, so these issues may already be resolved. Came here a year ago and was impressed with the room (huge, indoor-outdoor, sofas, great) but not the wine. Visited today and liked many of the wines. They get grapes from others and make the wine onsite. Tasting is $5 for four whites, or four reds. The Sauv Blanc from Dry Creek was my favorite white, also liked the oaked Chardonnay. The Syrah is good, and is making its way into a few restaurant wine lists. Today, 80 degree afternoon with a cool breeze, sit on the patio, drink wine, and love life. read more

We stopped by Trek wines for their open house weekend. The decor is lovely, love the indoor/outdoor feel of the space. My only issue with the decor was the two, strongly scented candles, burning in the seating area - you don't want wine tasters with the perfume of a candle on their pallet. Other than that slight mis-step, the buildout is wonderful! We did not know what to expect on the wine front so had lower expectations. We tasted the full flight and at the end, joined the wine club - that is our major stamp of approval! The sauv blanc is a perfect starter to a meal, and priced low enough to make it something to enjoy mid-week after a long day at work. The red wines were overall excellent - tasting room folks were pushing the Syrah, but that one was not our fav. The 2008 cab was exceptional. We are thrilled to be early club members and look forward to many events and pick-up parties at Trek Winery. read more

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up for Trek Winery and for the fact that we finally have a tasting room in downtown Novato! Located just off charming Grant Ave., this winery is a much needed addition to the downtown area, and in the months that it's been open it has become my favorite hang out spot in town. Whether you're a local or just passing through Novato, you need to come to Trek! Trek has a big, airy tasting space with tables, chairs and a bar. Directly off of the tasting room is a cute, outdoor patio. If you'd like to attend or host an event at Trek, there's a large barrel room off the patio and a smaller adjoining dining space. The people who work here will happily give tours of the winery. I've even been given an impromptu tour of the production space at the far end of the winery, where they blend and bottle all of their wines. It's a great facility and everyone who works here seems very proud of it. Also, Trek is family friendly. I was told that they want people in the community to feel like they can just come hang out there, hence the patio and big, inviting chairs. You can bring kids, you can linger, it's all good. Okay, the wine. I've done several tastings here, and my personal favorites are the Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc (not to be confused with their other Sauvignon Blanc, which is a bit lighter and sweeter), the Syrah and the Zinfandel. I do not love the Chardonnay. I'd recommend trying the two Sauvignon Blancs and then going right on to the reds, all of which are nice. A tasting of 5 wines of your choice is $5. If you choose to buy a bottle, the tasting fee is waived. Prices for bottles are very reasonable, in the $15-30 range. You can also buy a full glass of any wine you like. Prices are $7-8 for a glass. Hungry? Chianti Cucina and Grazie both deliver to Trek. No delivery fee. The folks at the bar will take your order, call it in, and then someone from the restaurant walks the food over as soon as it's ready. Both restaurants are great and have lots of options. Personally, I love to pair the Trek Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc with Grazie's crab cakes or Chianti Cucina's pear & prosciutto pizza. Dig into Chianti Cucina's rigatoni and enjoy a good glass of Zinfandel. The folks at Trek will set you up at one of the tables near the bar and provide plates and cutlery. In short, you need to get down to Trek. This place is doing everything right, and they've created a wonderful spot for us to savor local food and wine. read more

A perfect fit for Novato! If the crowd at last Saturday's grand opening is any indication, Trek Winery should do quite well out here. Everything in this place is done right, from the tasty wines to the wonderful decor (including some striking George Sumner paintings) to the friendly staff (Andy the owner is very personable and Steven who poured our wines certainly knew his stuff). It's immediately obvious when you first enter that a lot of thought and attention to detail went into this place -- it feels like a higher end tasting room out of Sonoma/Napa without the Napa arrogance or prices. The ambiance of the fountain out in the back patio area needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Trek Winery is located on the periphery of the downtown grid and there's plenty of street parking in the area. It's a short walk to a number of restaurants on Grant which makes it a perfect pre-dinner stop. Great winery in downtown Novato. Ample street parking makes this an easy stop. When you arrive you have several choices. Go to the bar for tasting or if you already know what you want go get a glass and find a comfy seat inside or outside on the patio. Lots of seating options including chairs, couch, lawn chairs. Little tables all around too. Very cozy and comfy especially in the evenings. There were people sipping wine and reading books, couples and a few larger groups when I was here. Kinda like a coffee shop. Came here for a friday evening comedy show that was ticketed through brownpapertickets.com. The show was in a large back room that had kegs all around the walls, and a small stage up front. The venue was perfect for this type of event. Guests could get glasses of wine or bottles at the bar and bring them in for the show. The area held enough folding chairs for 50-75 people. Thats a guess since I did not count. Seats were comfy though. The comedians were local and top notch. Both have been on Leno and Letterman. Hope they have more of these events here. read more

We had family from out of town, looking to hang out on a weekday afternoon. The host was so friendly and helpful. We spent a beautiful day on the patio, we brought our pup. The gentlemen gave her some treats and cool water for the hot day. Sampled 5 wines for $5, took home a great bottle for later. I was really impressed with the balsamic vinegar tastings and olive oils... Took home even more bottles of those. Great experience, we will be going back!! read more

I visited the winery in late June while traveling with friends. I purchased 3 bottles of wine to have shipped. I've called and emailed because I never received the wine. It's been two months now and I've still never received the wine they charged me for. They did respond to my email that it was too hot to ship the wine. The other wineries I visited all shipped and received within days of my return. I think this place likes to rip people off. Poorly ran and full of excuses! I would never recommend Trek Winery. read more

I wish I could vote 100 stars for Trek Winery!! This review is more than a month overdue but none the less from the heart! I can not say enough fantastic compliments about Trek Winery! A friend had passed away suddenly and we were scrambling to find a reception venue that could accommodate a large crowd for her funeral reception. Trek was one of our friends favorite spots to stop in to to relax with friends or with her husband for a glass of wine. So it made sense that we contact Trek to see if they would be willing to host the reception. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and compassion by Andy (wine maker) and Susan (manager). Even though they didn't know our friend personally, they treated us as if it was their friend or family member. They allowed us to use the winery, bring in our own caterer, provided additional staff to support the large crowd, were beyond accommodating allowing us to set up the day before the reception and also come back to pick up the extra beverages, flowers, etc. the following day. I will never forget Andy's face, as he told us that when he was setting up the morning of the reception and began to watch the slide show tribute to our friend, he was overwhelmed and was so grateful he was able to be of assistance to the family. So, not only is this venue PERFECT in its ambiance, size and decor. The wine is absolutely delicious! When I told Andy that I had tasted way more expensive wines that didn't taste nearly as good, and he could charge a heck of a lot more for his wine. He simply said, I wanted to keep the price point lower so more people could enjoy the wine! Well, it worked, I am sold and have found a new love.. Trek wines!! From the bottom of my heart, I can not begin to thank you for what you did for our friend, her family and her loving friends. On December 18th, you defined the word COMMUNITY by stepping up big and showing support to a local Novato resident whom you never meant and leaving a lasting impression on her family and friends. The Trek Winery was gracious in opening their doors in support of the charity benefit "Wine, Women & Song" . The annual event has raised over $200,000 and helped provide resources for ZERO Breast Cancer and other charities. The Trek Winery family produces some excellent reds BUT be aware some of their reds have higher than normal alcohol content. I particularly enjoyed their Sangiovese. I recommend stopping by The Trek Winery to enjoy a local treasure. read more

Love this place and one of the highlights of downtown Novato. Friendly staff, great wines and (when scheduled), good, solid entertainment. Usually pulls in a mature crowd, but the place does get an assortment of ages depending on the event. It's just so nice to have some date opportunities downtown that don't involve a lot of noise. This is one of those places where you can share a nice glass (or bottle) of wine and converse with your date or partner. There are a number of good resturants within walking distance so you can park once, enjoy a meal, walk it off and then top off your evening at Trek. read more

What a lovely experience! We each had a tasting flight of wine (my wife had 5 whites and I had 5 reds) for only $8 each. We also tried a glass of their sparkling wine, which was dry and delicious. They have a great selection of food - we had the cheese platter - which was absolutely perfect with our wine flights. We will definitely return soon to sample their other menu options and have some great glasses of wine at very reasonable prices! read more

The place is appealing, especially for a paint night. I was coming from SF with a friend and I attempted to call the place over 7 times, I was running late(no answer) When I was talking to the gentlemen that was running the place( the owner!) once I got there, he basically called me a liar even after showing him my calls to Trek, he still didn't take ownership. It was for paint night and he couldn't stop expressing how much he didn't deal with the person running the paint night.. I just wanted to know if it was worth the drive.. Very dissatisfied with the lack of communication and lack of ownership! What a loss of my money and he will never have my business again. We buy the wine they make and make a profit, while people paint! I had to share, the owner must be making good money for the lack of professionalism and pride for his business and the people that run the paint night. read more

I WANT to like it, I REALLY do- I see that everyone else seems to like the people there and the patio IS delightful and it is walking distance from the house but not once have we felt welcome. My husband and I finally had a chance to check out Trek Winery today! We were greeted right outside by the owner, Andy and his son, Michael. Not sure why some reviewers think Trek is not dog friendly, because it's very much so! We brought our 12 year old Pug with us and sat inside since there was a private event on the patio. This place is huge! Love the openness and high ceiling. We were very comfortable. The pours were generous and the fee is reasonable ($10). My favorite is the Sauvignon Blanc, but I enjoyed the unfiltered Zinfandel, too. I was pleased to see artwork by my favorite artist, George Sumner, behind the bar and in the ladies room. The owners have big plans to expand and I can't wait to see how they do! I loved that it is family owned and run. Andy's wife was working the party outside, so I never met her, but they all have their hands deep into this establishment and should be very proud. read more

Fabulous hidden gem! You would not believe that fantastic sophisticated place is where it is. I have driven by it and seen the signs and said I would stop by so many times since I live close by. Finally I stopped in for a Paint Night with a friend. And it was fantastic! The place comes alive! The place is alot of lovely to accent the wine barrels. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The lighting makes for a magical scene set of the paintings on the walls and seating throughout. There is a room you can rent for a private event. Now for the wine. I had the white. It was there version of a Chardonnay. It was very nice. It was a cross between a Chardonnay and a Zinn. Mellow for sure. They have some fantastic olive oils and vinegars to sample as well. Since Xmas is upon us they were decorated as such with a majestic tree standing tall in the room. They do comedy nights and I look forward to going one of those. read more

The wine was great. The service was mediocre at best. The person that we received samples from was nice enough. However, he was unaware of the constructs of the wine club. He suggested we consult the owner who was deeply involved with posting an ad online. He said, "I have a deadline to meet" as we walked out without buying any wine. We had planned on buying three bottles as the wine, as stated before, was great. My boyfriend tried to interact with the owner, but was ignored three times. We watched from a table as my boyfriend stood for what we counted as 4 minutes without him being acknowledged. However, the owner was apparently more interested in whatever it was on the computer than making sure we were taken care of. If you want good wine, I would suggest going elsewhere--where the service is as nice as the wine. Not to a place where the wine is practically un-purhcaseable by way of the inconsiderate owner. read more

This is the best secret in Novato! The owners are two of the most dedicated Novato residents and can make some amazing wines. My favorite red is the Syrah and white the Sauvignon Blanc! You have to stop in and sit on the patio this summer. Or, plan a night out for comedy or live music. I am partial of course being married to a Chime Traveler. Nothing but good things to say about my experience the Trek winery. We were fortunate enough to have any the owner take care of us and it was an amazing experience. Many of the whites were out of this world and the reds were very good. Everything about their business model impresses me; most of the building the owner had high school and college students build, they are into nature and recycling, great people and their wine follows suit. read more

Stumbled upon this place when driving back to San Francisco from some hiking and camping in the region, so so glad that we did! Michael hosted us for a tasting, we just walked in without any reservations, and he was very knowledgeable, polite, and professional. We hosted a client gathering there last weekend, and it was a lovely event, a mini get-a-way. We had live music in the main room, football in the barrel room, kid's activities in the tasting room allowing our 140 guests the opportunity to kick back and enjoy the wine. I feel a little conflicted about giving this 2 stars. While the atmosphere is great, and the owner was very nice and graciously gave us a tour of the grounds mid tasting, one of my biggest pet peeves was brought to light: I only had one glass of wine (I was alone and driving), and when I pulled out my credit card to pay, he made somewhat of a big deal (in front of a bunch of people I was just meeting) about not wanting to put such a "small" amount through his credit card machine (it was over $5). So much so that I felt as though I needed to buy a bottle of wine that I otherwise would not have. I guess my other option would have been to scrounge my car for change. Look-If you're going to get weird about credit cards, simply don't accept them as payment. Who carries cash anymore? Other than this experience, I'd say that this is a very nice place. read more

The owner, Andy, is awesome. He helped me coordinate some of the details for my husband's surprise birthday party and was there for the entire event. Our guests drank more wine than any of us estimated and Andy was so apologetic that our bill was as high as it was, but I was more than happy with it because of how engaged he was with our guests, the quality of the wine, and the fact that we're supporting local business.
