I went in the early winter, after the time change + beautiful views, especially at sunset + sprawling grounds, which allowed for a bachelorette party to do their thing without disturbing my ears and other sensibilities + pleasant server; he wasn't rushing us though we were the last party to leave + good wines - some were a bit drier for my taste, though I did end up leaving with a bottle + a bit off the beaten path which I like I did have to ask if there was a charcuterie plate, which wasn't on the (wine) tasting menu, and was able to be accommodated. We came here on a Sunday during November in the late afternoon. They have a beautiful property with great vineyard views! We sat outside on the patio in a little covered gazebo. Our reservation was for 3pm, we were running a little late from a previous tasting and the host said it was fine as long as we got there by 3:30pm! We were the only ones there, so service was quick and attentive. Our host talked with us about the history of the winery and gave some details about each wine we tasted. This winery does tastings for $25 each and you get to try 4-5 different wines. We enjoyed our experience here and thought the wines were good, but nothing really stood out to make it a spectacular experience. I would've enjoyed getting to interact with our host more but it seemed like she was busy cleaning things up since they were closing soon. Overall we still had a nice time here and it was a beautiful place to enjoy some wine! read more

From beginning to end, Azari was great. I came out with my sister and best friend to celebrate my birthday. The entrance is kind of tucked away, but once you make your way down the gravel road, you're treated so nicely. We were running a little late for our appointment made online, but it wasn't an issue. Cyrus got to pouring. We learned so much about the Petaluma Gap and enjoyed several tastings (including a mystery wine) and a great cheese pizza. The weather was perfect and so was the hospitality. I was presently surprised by my chocolate covered strawberries, cupcakes, and olive oil gift to end our stay. read more

Worth of being a member of this vineyard. Considering the landscape views, outdoor seating, and wood-fired pizza. We booked a reservation for lunch on a cold windy day. The staff was patient enough to welcome us and made pizzas even if it was extremely hard to deal with wind. The wine tasting room has a GOT look and feel setup with barn style dining table and wine cellar behind. After living in SF for 5 years and touring my fair share of wineries in Napa and Sonoma, I can say that Azari is far and away my favorite! I've been a wine club member here for almost 3 years and I love it. The wines are delicious - not cheap, but so so good, and in my opinion good value for the price. The wine is the star, as it should be, but everything else about the tasting experience is wonderful too. Wood fired pizza. Fresh olive oil, in season. The tasting area is small and intimate, with beautiful views of vines and rolling hills from the outdoor patio. The staff are friendly, relaxed, and unpretentious. I love bringing friends here, and I know they love it too, because most of the time they leave with a couple bottles or even a case of their own. I can't wait to be back! read more

When you live in Sonoma county, you can start to take for granted all the wonderful vineyards and tasting rooms here in Sonoma County and neighboring (but snooty!) Napa valley, with its comparably tasting but significantly more expensive (and pretentious) wines. As a local though, you look for local vineyards and tasting rooms that are off the beaten path, and one of Sonoma County's hidden gems is Azari Vineyards. Now - full disclosure - I'm a sucker for owner-operated businesses. I just feel like there's more of a sense of connection, and Azari Vineyard is a great case in point. Cyrus, son of the first generation immigrants who created this family vineyard can tell you all about their hand-crafted wine selection not because he studied talking points in some soulless corporate boardroom but because he helped make each bottle personally, all whole serving you a hand tossed, wood-fired pizza from their on-property brick oven. If you haven't had the chance to pair a bountiful Pinot noir or bright Cabernet while savoring a slice of hand-crafted pizza and basking in the Sonoma sunset, I urge you to call Cyrus at Azari Vineyard and make this moment happen for yourself. This is where I want to celebrate the first weekend after the Covid lockdown is lifted. I can't wait to go back. read more

We checked out Azari as part of Petaluma Drinks and were really disappointed. The tasting room manager was visibly intoxicated by our arrival at noon, unable to poutlr without spilling on the table and slurring. Made a reservation to taste for two, $20 per person. Server was pleasant and we tasted a Riesling, Rose', Pinot Noir, Merlot and Shiraz, the Merlot taste was a "bonus" taste. A few things to note: 1. The grounds and the gravel patio area for tasting are not well groomed and I would not say they are rustic but rather unkempt. The pergola made of wine bottles for the roof above our table needed a good power wash, the tablecloth was badly wrinkled and the glasses for tasting are thick one size large bowl restaurant glasses style from 30 years ago. Felt very outdated but maybe that is the ambience they are trying to convey? 2. Thinking that we were going to buy enough wine to have our tasting fees waived was not an option. We bought 4 bottles of their Holiday Special which was 4 bottles for $160-and the Pinot Noir listed on the special was a 2013 and yet were were poured a 2016. I asked the server to clarify what year would be in the box as if I was to purchase a 2013 Pinot, I would want to taste it first. She called someone and the 2016 was allowed. 3. I asked if the tasting fees would be waived and was advised no, they were already paid for. I asked if there was a dollar amount we need to reach in purchase to have the tasting fees waived and she said no, she advised we could join their wine club and tastings would be free. Overall summation: Nice server, not rustic but rather unkempt, A bill of $206 for the four bottles of wine and the gratuity plus $40 for tasting fees already charged made for an expensive hour and a half. The experience was warm and friendly, perhaps because this is a family-run winery, and there's a personal element to every step in the wine-making process, from the rows of grapevines waiting to be hand-picked to the finicky bottling machine that only works for Kaveh's dad. We visited this winery a few weekends ago. It's a MUST VISIT in our opinion!!! We were there on a rainy/drizzly day and alot of other groups cancelled. We were lucky and followed the owner into the property. He welcomed us in and took care of us himself. Their wines were delicious. The BEST Pinot Noir we had all weekend. The property is BEAUTIFUL. Literally feels like you're in a different country. His son in law gave us a tour and explained alot of the work the owner had done himself. It was amazing to see at the pride the family has in their winery. It's a great little family business tucked away, and I'm so glad we found it. We hosted a fairly large event here last weekend and it was magical! Azari took care of everything and hosted the most amazing day. One of the owners threw some last min (as in day before and day of) curve balls at me which was very frustrating but when it came time for the event to start everything was worked out and went off without a hitch. Special thanks to Wiley, Kathleen, the chef and his wife to making all of our guests feel welcomed and making a day I've been dreaming about for months exceed even the highest of expectations. The food was fantastic, the wine even better and views comparable to Tuscany. I'd highly recommend going for a wine tasting, hosting an event or staying at the Azari guest house. I can't say enough good things about this place. A small family operation where you are treated like family when you're there. Cyrus, Kaveh, Mama Azari Joon, and Bob (and Brad the dog) were just great hosts. I have to say that the reason why I came back was because of Cyrus. He's such a great host and make some pizzas for us in their wood-fired pizza oven. Now, on to their wines. I know it sounds cliche to say that you can taste and see every decision that was put in to making their wines. When you look at their wines, they are unfiltered which not only gives so much more flavor, but it also shows their decision to leave it unfiltered as it is what the family likes. This family's hospitality is unparalleled in all the "family" wineries I've been to. I love Cabernets and have only found good ones on the Napa side. Well, the Azari Cab is one of my favorites and even though I know they get their grapes from Rutherford, I can say that I'm glad they brought them over to the Sonoma side and put their own twist on a Cab. read more

This is tough, because I've had friends visit since, and they had a terrible experience. That being said, we had a great time. We were running late for our reservation, and Cyrus, the owners' son, was like "no problem, just get here when you get here." We arrived with our group of 10, and Cyrus said, "Look, this isn't my first rodeo, you don't seem like a bunch that need a tasting. Do you want to do bottles?" And we did. We got a few bottles and wandered around the property and ate the awesome pizza Cyrus made. The view from the vineyards was beautiful, the wine was stellar (that pinot noir is literally one of the best I've ever had), and we all had an amazing time. The good: fantastic wine, and a great experience thanks to Cyrus. The bad: it's a bit pricey, definitely out of the way. But I thought it was worth it. read more

I do not recommended this place at all. If their wine vineyard service is like their guest house practices you should try another vineyard. During early summer, I called to reserve their guest house. I gave them my specifics and I was told that my room was booked for the Thanksgiving weekend. I had a voucher for three days and was willing to pay for an additional day and was informed that I was booked. I contacted my family members and informed them that we would be spending the holiday on a vineyard enjoying the country side and wine tasting. In early November, I received a call from Azari telling me that I did not have a reservation. They made it seem like I never called and made the reservation; however, they had my contact information and called me so it proves that they had my information and my booking and further knew it was for the Thanksgiving day and weekend. During the call they told me that the place was already booked. If I did not have a reservation, how would they know to call me to tell me that I did not have a reservation. These people are dishonest and lied to my face. Now I am left high and dry and needing to find another location at this late notice for my family. Instead of admitting their mistake and offering an alternative to make it right, they lied to me and tried to make if seem like I was at fault. These people are dishonest and if their vineyard service is like their cottage reservations, then you will do well not to visit this place. read more

I had the best time during my visit at Azari Vineyards. It was my birthday weekend with girlfriends in Petaluma. We decided we wanted to visit a local winery so we got on Yelp to find Azari had some great reviews. We called the morning of our visit and they were happy to host us that afternoon. We were greeted with a great welcome and smile by Cyrus Azari as we parked our car. As we walked to the tasting room (which was next door to the Azari's residence) we enjoyed the spectacular views of the grapevines and the valley. Cyrus was a delight!! He walked us over to began our tastings in the event/tasting room where we were greeted by his Mom and Dad. We began learning about the winery and enjoying our wine tastings when much to our surprise Mr. Azari delivered us a home made pizza that he crafted in his pizza oven. As we continued to enjoy our tastings, Mr. Azari brought us a second pizza! Cyrus proceeded to walk us to their vineyards where he explained about the different grapes, how they care for the field including watering and pruning. It was very educational. We continued our tour to the harvest room where they process the grapes and then later bottle the wine. It was definitely an educational tour. We had only planned to stay at this winery for an hour but 3 hours later we were finally parting with our trunk full of wine. If you are ever in Petaluma, be sure to call ahead and make an appointment to visit Azari Vineyards. Yes, it is a little confusing to get there...but definitely worth the effort. read more

I've done a number of wine tastings in Napa and the surrounding areas and by far this was my favorite place to date. Niko (the winemaker) was very friendly and knowledgable about his wines and gave a brief but informative tour of the vineyard. It was a very casual, comfortable, laid back atmosphere with some of the best red wines I've had for the price. The wood fire pizzas were a nice added addition to the tasting. Kaveh was very accommodating and friendly as well. He fit us in before a large party with little notice before showing up and made the tasting feel more like hanging out than a stuffy wine tasting. If you are looking for a fun, laid back winery with great wines this is a great place to stop in. read more

I corresponded with Cyrus to set up a tasting appointment ahead of time. We were not disappointed when we arrived. The property is beautiful, the wines are outstanding and the hospitality was top notch. I am a huge fan of Pinot Noir and love a great Rose. Both of these wines were excellent. My husband is a Cabernet fan and he thoroughly enjoyed Azari's Cabernet. The fruit came from the Rutherford region of Napa, and was really nice. Then again, the Chardonnay was delicious too. I love the fact that this winery is a boutique winery with a gorgeous setting. We were delighted to be offered a handmade pizza to go along with our tasting. There really is nothing like a fresh pizza just cooked in an outside pizza oven. A big thank you to our host, Cyrus, as we thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the winery his father started. And, a big thank you to, Adam, for making a nice pizza for us to enjoy. We will enjoy the wine we purchased and be back again with friends. This winery is certainly a beautiful desination winery that produces approximately 2,000 cases a year. Received a free vineyard tour of Azari Vineyards through our groupon while staying at Metro Hotel & Cafe in Petaluma. Unfortunately for us, our hotel gave us the wrong address so the place was a little difficult to find. We were scared that we were going to just drive into someone's house, which in actuality, we did end up doing! The Vineyard is located at the Azari's beautiful estate. We met up with Chris who gave us the tour. He was extremely apologetic for starting the tour without us even though it was our fault for being late! We were greeted by two adorable dogs, Bandit and Chiquilina (?). I'm a sucker for dogs :P He told us about the Vineyard and was very informative and knew his stuff. The vineyard itself is quite small but is gorgeous nonetheless. The tour of the actually vineyard itself was quite short because it is so small but it was nice and intimate with only 5 of us on the tour. We got to see how they made their wine and then went off to have a lovely tasting. The tasting included delish wood oven baked pizza! So yummy! I need one of those outdoor wood ovens for myself! I personally don't drink wine, being allergic and all, so I just took a little sip here and there and passed the rest to my boyfriend. A couple of them were quite tasty despite not knowing anything about wine. We completely lucked out on our group as well! Since we were just in town for the weekend and didn't know the area we had no idea what to do next. Lucky for us the rest of the people on our tour were from Petaluma and Chris and all of them gave us tips on where to go and what to do which was so great. I would overall recommend visiting this quaint little vineyard while you're in Petaluma. Chris himself is a great reason to go. He's a really great guy and you can tell that he is immensely passionate about wine and about the Azari Estate itself. Azari came highly rated to us through a word of mouth recommendation, but we were sorely disappointed. We live in San Francisco and visit wine country regularly, and Azari was the worst wine tasting experience we've had. You make an online reservation and pay upfront. The service was terrible. It took over 30 minutes to be served our second wine tasting. There were only 2 people working and they seemed to be distracted by things other than serving their guests (fixing the fountain). On top of bad service, the wine isn't great--the pinots were tart, and the Shiraz was okay. I will never come back and warn others from visiting. read more

Having a friendly, playful, happy host always makes the tasting that much more enjoyable. My new favorite is the estate grown Pinot Noir. Our experience was so terrific, we ended up enrolling in the wine club so we'll receive regular deliveries right to our door and now have a greater incentive to visit more often. Cyrus was a great host -- he had a lot to say about the wine-making process. Some people in our party thought he had too much to say, but as a home-brewer myself I love hearing about the process and the choices that go into each bottle of wine. Since we were there at the end of the day he poured us just a little bit extra too, which was lovely. :) AND they made us wood-fired pizza and it was amazing. We bought a bottle of the Rose, which was fabulous and just right for a warm day. (We drank it the other night -- just as delicious as we remembered!) Their reds were also fantastic. Prices are what you would expect for nice wines up in wine country (~$70 for the reds). Our vineyard tour and tasting at the beautiful Azari Vineyards was an incredible, fun-filled experience. Chris, our host, was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable and explained every detail to us newbies in a way we understood. The atmosphere was very comfortable. We tasted five wines and especially enjoyed the Pinot and 2008 Syrah. Chris also let us try the not-yet-bottled Riesling which we loved. We were served a generous amount of wine, along with a woodfired pizza, and met the owner, Kamal Azari, who seems very hands on in the vineyard's operations.
