I don't frequently get my wardrobe tailored, but I was so happy that I came across Trends Tailor mainly because of how quick, fairly priced and overall nice and courteous the owner Andy was throughout my patronage there. The shop is clean, well-lit and has huge mirrors. There isn't much free parking nearby, but the short walk from street parking is manageable enough. I had a strapless dress with a fairly high split and was roomy in the top area. The dress had lots of sequins and feathers, so I was anxious on how he would make the alterations, but I soon learned to trust his professionalism and the dress turned out absolutely gorgeous! Review is for dry cleaning only. Trend's Tailor is located in the heart of Rice Village and run by store owner, Andy, who is very nice. It's worth noting that Andy specializes in alterations and tailoring and only does dry cleaning through a family connection as a side business. The shop is well lit, clean and has a large dressing room and mirrored wall for alternations. For dry cleaning, since this is not his main business, expect to wait about a week for pick up and to pay a little more. I dropped off my three items on a Thursday afternoon and left my cellphone number which Andy said that he would text when the items were ready. I never received a text so I waited a little over a week to pick up my items on the following Saturday afternoon. My items were ready when I got there and the dress that I dropped off with a few stains looked as good as new! I paid $7 an item which is definitely on the higher end but I was happy to see the quality of the work. Other notes - free parking is becoming increasingly scarce in Rice Village so be prepared to walk a few blocks during busier times of the day if you don't want to pay to park. Amazing service and quality work. needed hemming and tapering on suit pants and he not only did it extremely well, but he also gave advice on what would look good. he even hemmed/tapered it in a way where the fabric was saved in case i ever wanted to go back and lengthen the pants or untaper them. also it was all done in one day which was very convenient. read more

The very friendly tailor in this shop fixed a very broken zipper and track on my bag for $5 and did it in less than 5 minutes!! I was so happy I almost kissed the guy because a new bag usually sells for about $125 and I was happy to not have to replace it... He also did alterations on my business partner's pants and they fit perfectly and looked great! I could tell from all the clothes waiting to be picked up that this shop deals with everything from very high dollar couture to blue jeans. Thanks to Erika V.'s recommendation of this place, I was also able to salvage a dearly loved purse of mine with a broken interior compartment zipper. So anyone out there with a broken zipper situation - come here! It looked as good as new and I am fairly sure it also cost around $5 - WIN! In terms of dry cleaning - well you may want to carefully mull through a cost-benefit analysis before you drop off your clothes . . . I dropped off three dresses and had the zipper fixed and it came to the grand total of $25. I was ecstatic because it's normally around $13 per dress where I usually go. I was so ecstatic that I failed to inspect my dresses upon pick-up. Once I was home, I noticed they didn't do a very good job, at all . . . There were still noticeable untreated drink and food stains on two of the dresses (I'm clumsy! So sue me!) - even on the dress I had asked the clerk to pay special attention to . . . mehhh. Also lotsa lint - weird. I think I might eventually come back here because of the cheap cheap price and give them a second chance. They were extremely friendly and they saved my beloved purse, so I can't quite dismiss them yet. FYI - cash or check only, no credit cards accepted. read more

SUMMARY: Do not go to this place. 1) Discriminatory pricing, 2) Always over sells you, 3) Doesn't like to fix his alterations. Andy, is the name of the owner of this tailoring shop and he is the reason for the poor rating. Andy's pricing is not consistent and he basically gives a price based on what he thinks you are willing to pay for his tailoring service. I have actually used Andy for awhile, but I hadn't been into the shop for quite some time, so I called to confirm the price of a hem. I was told $10 on the phone, but when I went in, Andy told me it was $12.99. When I told him he told me $10 on the phone, he said that was his old price and that his prices have gone up due to his expenses going up. To quote him, "he said because gas is so expensive" he also has to charge more. GAS IS $2.20 as of the day I am writing this review. But Andy has always used "gas" as his reasoning for his pricing, especially if you ever ask for a discount. I made the mistake of asking for a discount and I was yelled at in front of his other customers. Rude. Andy is happy as long as you pay him what he wants. Also, Andy will never give you true advice about clothing/tailoring. I took a pair of pants in (the same pants actually that fueled this review) and I asked him if they needed to be taken in in the thigh (in addition to the hem). ANDY WILL NEVER RESIST THE CHANCE TO MAKE MORE MONEY ON YOU. He, of course, said "yes, they are a bit baggy....$25 to take that it in." Oh and lastly, God forbid if you ever need an adjustment to an alteration he has done. You have to fight tooth and nail to get him to fix it. He will make every excuse in the book, "oh it looks good the way it is" or "you told me to make it this way" or "it was too long ago" (1 week). I only had to have him adjust an alteration once, and I got all of these excuses for the same jacket. He did not want to redo anything. So, I had to pay twice for the same item as I needed the item quickly. So, as of today, I use a different tailor. Close by and much cheaper. Oh and they didn't think that the pants needed to be taken in the thigh area. read more

I do NOT recommend having your clothes dry cleaned here. First, they send off their dry cleaning to another location about 20 minutes away...so if you have any problems it is such a hassle to fix. I gave them a bag of 12 pieces of clothing to dry clean and I only received 6 back. I was told that they forgot my other clothes at the dry cleaning place 20 minutes away and they would not bring it until the next day. The owner was nice and apologized but my clothes were still missing. I had dropped off my clothes on a Tuesday and I came on Saturday. How is that they realized they did not have all my clothes only when I came to pick it up?! They said everything would be ready by Friday. Because I needed to get my dress for a formal that evening, I was told I can go and pickup my missing clothes from the dry cleaning place directly. After I picked up my clothes, I inspected everything when I got home and noticed that there were buttons missing from one of the suits and the zipper of my formal dress was broken. After all these issues, I definitely do NOT plan to use them for dry cleaning again. read more

I brought a brand new dress from David's Bridal (it was a bridesmaids dress for a wedding) here for alterations. Andy was highly recommended by some family as I'm pretty new to the area. It was a matter of taking up a strap and taking in the top of the dress. He also told me that he would steam it for me before I picked it up. He told me he would have it ready in a week and call me. I never heard from him so I called to see if it was ready and it was like he couldn't find the dress, but eventually said it was ready. Today, I went to pick it up and Andy was not there, the guy searched for several minutes for it and finally found it, and it wasn't even steamed. Obviously it was for an upcoming wedding as the original tags are even still attached. While the work seemed great and it now fit, it still needs to be steamed. So frustrating. Also $65 for only those 2 things seems really high. Think I'll be looking for a new tailor. Seems to be great work, but very unorganized and expensive. :( read more
