This place has just gotten worse and worse. Owner Julie has no issue lying to customer and defending subpar work. Took a suit jacket in with 4 bottons on each sleeve and came out with 3 after she reassured me all 4 buttons will remain and last one moved up. She told me I didn't know what I was talking about and mistaken, despite showing her photos of the jacket pre-alteration. She admitted she didn't work on the jacket and defended her employee, despite not remembering who worked on it. 2nd jacket she has messed up. Guess I'm the fool for going back the 2nd time. Definitely no more business from me!! read more

I was looking for a tailor nearby where I live with reasonable prices. I saw the reviews for here, so I decided to give this place a try! When I went inside, the seamstress was very friendly with greeting me. I wanted to get my pants hemmed because they were too long on me. When I picked up my pants, I was very satisfied with how well of a job she did hemming them. Their prices are reasonable. I will definitely be coming back! read more

I've been using Julie at US Tailors for 15 years. I have taken her clothing that basically needed to be totally reconstructed and she always delivers sheer perfection. DO NOT SEND YOUR CLOTHES HERE. If I could select zero stars I would have. I dropped off three brand new pairs of jeans and a pair of slacks to have hemmed, When I came to pick them up this Saturday they were not at the store. The owner accused me of already having picked them up! It was obvious, based on our discussion, that she had given the pants to someone else with no verification other than "is this your signature?" Why someone else would pay for alterations that were not theirs is beyond me. Bottom line - 3 pairs of new pants gone. I am out over $175. No apiology from the vendor nor offer to make amends, only accusations that I am lying or have forged my copy of the drop off receipt. read more

I've used US tailors on numerous occasions, for dress suit alterations, as well as alterations for two separate floor length bridesmaid dresses. She always does a fantastic job. I wanted her to do my wedding dress but unfortunately she was booked up and couldn't get it done before my date, so make sure you book her early during wedding season! My one word of advice is to make sure you get a quote ahead of time. Sometimes her price is super affordable, and sometimes I am a little shocked by how much she quotes me. Perhaps it's just my lack of understanding of the difficulty that goes into some alterations, but I think most of her quotes are pretty fair. read more

First started coming here when I needed a few items hemmed and lived in the med center area. Now, even though I've moved to Sugar Land, I still come here for all my tailoring needs (helps that I still work in the med center, though). Julie does a fantastic job with her alterations and her prices are super reasonable. She also has a very quick turnaround and she has always been nothing but courteous and respectful when I go Parking is a bit of a pain since the shop is located in this tiny lot right off Holcombe. I've been here several times now and I have never been more pleased with the services. The woman who owns the place is incredibly kind. The first time my husband and I came here was to get his suit altered for our wedding. We were turned down by two other alteration places because it was too close to the wedding to have it done by. Even though it was last minute, she prioritized it for us and had it done in plenty of time. She does not overcharge and I truly appreciated the time she spent with us to find the best lengths for what I was looking for when I took my dresses in another time. TERRIBLE customer service!!!! DONT GO HERE!!!!! i only came in to get measurements done as i explained my mom is out of country & she wanted to make sure she bring me back clothes that'll fit me since they run smaller there... she kept giving me nasty, dirty looks & at first i ignored it as the conversation proceeded b/c i just want to get measured & go on my day but she kept trying to tell me i need just more than just bust hip waist like i'm some idiot. what really pissed me off was she tried to charge me $10 for a job that takes barely 5 seconds to do. if it wasn't for her attitude and facial expression, i would be more than glad to pay it but i can't support someone's business that has that kind of customer service. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Julie for alterations. I took in a pair of jeans to get hemmed & tapered. While the job itself was fine, it was the customer service that deserves the 1 star. She only accepts cash/check and because I didn't have cash with me that day I paid with check instead. She calls me about 5 days later to tell me that the check didn't go through because the account is now closed. This seemed really odd to me because I literally just paid for an order of supplies with the same checkbook. I even called that company to verify if there was an issue cashing the check. I told her I would go in later that week to pay her in cash since I work 9-6 weekdays. She had initially called me on a Monday, and I get another call on Thursday and she starts off the phone conversation angry. She asked me when I could come in and I said I wouldn't be able to until Saturday since I work weekdays. She then proceeded to threaten reporting me to the state department if I did not come before Christmas. Now I work in the service industry as well and that is downright disrespectful to speak to anyone that way, especially if they already let you know when they would be coming in. This wasn't a large order of alterations it was $21 to hem and taper a pair of jeans and she was escalating the problem. I was content with her alteration job and even had two more pairs of pants to bring in on my next visit as I initially only tried one pair of pants to see how she would do. I came in on Saturday 12/22 to pay the $21 plus the bank fee in cash and needless to say I will NEVER come back to alter anything by Julie nor would I recommend her to anyone I know. That kind of attitude toward a customer is not worth my time. read more

Julie has been my seamstress for quite a while now. A few years ago, when I finally got all the baby weight off, I decided that I didn't want to part with some of my favorite dresses, so I took her a bunch of them to get taken in. Her prices were very reasonable, and my dresses were SAVED!!! Ever since, I've been hooked. I no longer have to worry about stores being out of my exact size, or pants that are too long, or a skirt with a slit that's too high. I buy without hesitation, because I know that Julie can fix anything. I think everyone should have a seamstress on standby, and Julie at US Tailors is the best. I have never been in a hurry, so the one week turnaround she offers is always fine with me. I'm certain, though, if I ever needed something sooner, she would accommodate me. The prices here are very affordable and she is very nice! I've been here to get my jeans hemmed and tapered by the same lady and they both came out fine! I'm a petite and my jeans were a regular so a lot needed to get chopped off and tapered. I've seen people bring in more extravagant pieces here, but I've only come in for my jeans to be tailored. I'm glad I was able to find this place that's nearby home and that does not overcharge for jean hems. As for pick up, I think it depends on how busy she is and what items you have. For my two jeans hemmed it took a couple of days and for my jean tapered, it would be ready the next day. This is my go-to spot to get items tailored now and it's cash only! read more

I dont know what happened to this place. Rudest customer service I've experienced in a long time. Back in 2016 I came to this location to get a few dresses hemmed and the service was great, so great in fact that when I returned to Houston this year, I went straight back to this location to get a few pants hemmed. What happened? Did management change? First I asked if we could hem my pants a little shorter than we had measured, she responded curtly that I didn't know what I was talking about and didn't know what looked good. Fine, I understand she is the professional but its not WHAT one says its HOW one says it. Next, she asks me when do I want to pick them up. Knowing from past experience that tailors often are busy, I responded, "anytime and day, whenever you finish is fine with me." She in turn condescendingly, in an exasperated tone as if I was wasting her time says I have to pick a day. Jeez lady, I was simply trying to be a kind and flexible customer. It was a frustrating experience and I left this establishment feeling drained and looked down upon, I decided I'm better off finding another tailor or just hemming my clothes myself. At the end of it all, I pick up my pants and notice that there were still long loose threads that weren't cut. I mean come on... Addendum: Looking through the past reviews looks like management may by the same. Not sure what is happening here. She exhibits, at worst, an urge to feel superior to her customers and is not afraid to openly show it and at best an unstable, low emotional intelligence. read more

I've been looking for a new seamstress/tailor since my old one shut down (I think the owner decided to retire). Regarding the quality, I would give it 4 stars, but keep in mind that I haven't gotten any major "reconstructions" - just a hem here or a pinch there. The seamstress there is very friendly and speaks English well, which is helpful when you can't explain what you need done in Vietnamese that well. She's also very knowledgeable and will give you options instead of over-charging you for something you don't necessarily need - I really appreciate that. I will say that it's a bit on the pricey side, but like I always say, "you get what you pay for". I've been elsewhere that charges less for the same quality, but I go here when I need it done quick. read more

So surprised to see any negative reviews so that is why I am posting this one. I have never had any issues with anything I have brought in. From hemming curtains, to taking pleats out of suit pants, to executing some of my insane costumes ideas at Halloween, this place has always done an amazing job. She has always offered her opinion, which some times I take and sometime I don't, but they have always made sense and been the right perspective if there was something about the construction I could not have thought of - not knowing anything about tailoring. I have never had to wait more than a week, but I am also smart enough to recognize what the busy times of the year are. I find costumer service to be great and always seem to be approached with a sense of humor which may be being misinterpreted. I can only complain about the parking. read more

I've tried several tailoring places around the Medical Center and was never willing to drive up to The Heights/Montrose to get alterations done, so when I tried U.S. Tailors for the first time a couple years ago, I knew they were my new go-to alterations spot! The tailor here is very quick, professional, friendly, and definitely knows what she's doing! I've had similar work done at other alternations stores in the area for almost double the price so I was happy to find US Tailors doing it just as well (if not better) for so much cheaper. Bring in your items, try them on, and get pinned in front of the mirror. I've had several dresses, pants, and skirts altered here for very reasonable prices and fast turnaround. My husband has also had pants and his white coat tailored here. I was particularly concerned about my dress alterations because they were brand new and I was worried the alterations (taking up the straps and taking in the sides) might mess up the pockets or drape of the material, but Julie did an awesome job! One dress in particular I was very impressed with -- I originally came in requesting the sides and hem to be taken up and in respectively but after pinning me, Julie stepped back, took out all the pins, and instead just brought the straps up and everything fit much better with much less work! After that, I knew I could trust her to do the right thing for the fit of the item. I've had pant hems taken up and waists taken in as well as hems repaired, skirt waists taken in, and shirt sides taken in all with great results. This place is cash or check only so come prepared!! It can also get pretty busy during the late afternoons and weekends so if at all possible try to come on a weekday in the morning or early afternoon. read more

I've been here about 4 times to get things altered (scrubs, pants, dresses) and those previous times have been pleasant experiences with quality work being done. Despite that, I do not recommend this place. The owner lacks customer service skills and manners. My last visit I tried a pair of pants on that I thought I needed altering at the waist but changed my mind and said that I could do with wearing a belt. She stated that "women don't wear belts" and that "a belt would make me look bigger". I then go on to try a two piece jumpsuit for a wedding reception and she asks me in a judgmental tone, "are you still partying?", as if I shouldn't be allowed to wear outfits like that because of my age or if she assumed I was headed to the club in the middle of a pandemic. I should bring her a mask with a filter, maybe then she'll be able keep comments to herself. read more

I had a great experience here. I needed to tailor an interview suit I'd bought several years ago and Julie/Trinh was very friendly from the very beginning. It was cheaper to get it taken in than buy a completely new suit, but the cut itself was kind of outdated and she gave me good advice on what to look out for the next time I was in the market for a new suit. She quoted me a 1 week turnaround time and was right on time. I thought the price was very reasonable as well -- $15 for my skirt waist, $20 for the jacket sleeves, and $25 for taking the jacket's back in. All in all, I was very satisfied with the look and fit afterwards. Do be aware that this place is cash/check only though! read more

First off I gave it to the shop a Month in advance of when I needed it and she said 2 weeks. I went to go pick it up and she said it wouldn't be ready for another 2 weeks. But that's when the event was that I needed it for. Second of all I took 2 dresses in and she mixed up the alterations for both and did things to the opposite dresses. Third the lady at the shop made me cry because she said the dress I had was ugly and she just kept saying it needed to be fixed but she didn't know how to do it and it was just made wrong so she couldn't do anything. She kept asking me what I wanted done. But I am not a seamstress so how do I know what to tell her. I just know something needs to be done. I did try and give suggestions but she shot me down saying it's a horrible dress. I finally left the store and she's yelling out the door to come back because no one else can fix it. My entire experience here was an absolute delight. I needed to have my white coat and scrub pants altered and I knew I could immediately trust Julie. Not only were previous reviews positive but there were many other people who left their white coats in Julie's hands. Her turnaround time is quick. I thought I was asking for too much by having her finish the alterations in 4 days. Instead, she offered to have it done the following day! I wasn't in that much of a hurry so I asked to have it done in 4 says like I originally intended. I paid $37 total to have my white coat hemmed, the sleeves shortened, and the scrub pants hemmed. GAINS. #BROtein U S Tailors appeared to be the most straightforward, no-frill-iest shop out of the bunch closest to my office in the Med Center. Not accepting credit cards only adds to its street cred. So I pop in, change into my pants and, after a couple tugs at the waistband, the lady knew what adjustments to make. 24 hours and $15 later, I was ready to rock like it was 2010. I was in search of Tony's Alterations as I drove to their location and found that they had moved with no referring address. I went to the post office and called Tony's and he said, I've moved close, just wait 25 minutes. I don't have 25 minutes. A woman at the post office suggested U S Tailors and said they gave same day service. Sure enough they do. I asked, but I didn't need my jeans in a rush. A very helpful owner measured each jean I needed altered. Then she said she could have it back that same day, but I told her I'd pick them up in the morning. Great service and a great tailor. I never let anyone touch my $300 jeans, but this time I figured I'd take my chances. My jeans came out perfect! They fit me beautifully! The cost to have 4 jeans altered, $40 bucks! Can't beat that. I heard Tony's is very expensive, but look no further, go to U S Tailors. They do an awesome job! Now I don't have to keep buying extra tall shoes to match my extra long pants. read more

I do not recommend this place at all mostly because of the poor customer service. I chose this place because it has 4.5 stars and the first time I came she did a decent job on two regular formal dresses that didn't require much work and she completed it within two days. I thought her work was decent decided to go back to her to get another three dresses done for an engagement photoshoot that was similar work. I went in on a Wednesday because I get out of work late and they closed Monday and Tuesday before I could get there. she started yelling at me because she said two days wasn't enough time and was too busy because of prom season. I mentioned maybe she could just do one dress and she refused to do it. So I went to Imparali right after and they did three dresses in two days with no problem. I still thought she did a decent job on the first two dresses so I went back to see if she can alter my wedding dress as I thought several weeks would be enough time to work on it so there shouldn't be any issues. I went on a Saturday and she told me to come back during the week because they are too busy even though only a few people walked in and I told her I wouldn't mind waiting. She did take a look at it and examine my dress which I appreciated but when I told her my vision of what I would like altered she proceeded to shoot down my ideas and said I shouldn't mess too much with the original design of the dress. I told her I wanted to add a belt and add decor to the bust and she advised against it for reasons that were not legit. She did tell me she could do a bustle and shorten the dress as well as straps but she seemed very burdened about it when explaining this to me and asked me to come back the following Wednesday at 5pm where she would have more time with me so I did. Now I did go to Sand Oaks embroidery to get some work done at a better price and it was no problem but this place did not have experience doing bustles so I decided to keep that Wednesday appointment just for the bustle. When I walked in she said the dress looks fine and they can't do bustles because it's a princess style dress. First off this is a mermaid style dress and I've seen plenty of these types of dresses with bustles. When I told her this she insisted that there's no possible way to do a bustle because of the style. At this point I was very frustrated because this woman wasted my time coming back and trying on the dress only to be told there was nothing she could do. She said she told me she couldn't do the bustle on Saturday but I clearly remember her saying she could do it. I had also asked if she could readjust the straps because they felt too tight and she said she couldn't because the other place cut the straps without even looking at it and I told her they did not cut the straps but instead folded them in and she told me to go back to the place that did it to get it adjusted. I ended up going to Memorial Tailors who took me in with open arms and had no problem at all adding bustles for me and went above and beyond to get other work done to fulfill my vision for this dress. It was very unprofessional and disrespectful the way she spoke to me and outright lied about the work that could and couldn't be done to this wedding dress. Needless to say I will NEVER be going back to this place again and I am surprised they have as many good reviews as they have given my multiple unpleasant experiences at this place. read more

I needed to get a pair of designer jeans and 2 slacks hemmed. I checked out this place after reading the other good review listed. I walked in and the owner was very friendly and welcoming. She encouraged me to try on each items and I didn't feel rushed at all (she had one more customer who came in after me). Her price was $10/pair and she said she could have them done in 2 days. The experience was going well but I wanted to wait until the alterations were done to make a final judgment. When I came to pick up my items, they looked GREAT. I couldn't tell they had been altered at all! When I got home to try them on, the lengths were perfect. I had heard horror stories of tailors hemming too short but you don't have to worry about that at US Tailors. She hemmed everything to the precise point that we agreed on in the store. The best part: I tried to offer her a tip for the great work and the owner wouldn't accept it. She laughed and told me to go buy myself some lunch :) Overall, US Tailors offers great customer service and great quality work. I highly recommend and will definitely be returning! read more

My husband went US tailor 3 times and brought 6 dress pants to have alterations. 1st 2 pants - the waist came out too tight. So he had to go back and ask her to fix them. 2nd 2 pants - came out ok. 3rd 2 pants - asked to change a zipper, she used a navy color zipper for a light gray pant. We are not going there anymore. I even had Julie tailor my Chinese wedding dress (qipao) and my mom's dress earlier this year, and they came out perfectly! Just dropped off a blazer jacket to have its sleeves shortened for $20. I am so glad to have found Julie after several failed attempts at finding a go-to alterations shop in the Houston area. She is not the closest tailor to me, but she is far and away the best one. Prices are extremely reasonable and turnaround time is fast, usually within a few days. She can even accommodate rush 1-day alterations (within reason, of course) for a nominal additional fee. As others have stated, her evening hours are not the most convenient for those who work a standard 8-5 work day, but that's what Saturday mornings are for! Remember, cash only. read more

I brought a dress to be altered and specified a 2 inch train. She cut off the whole train and when I asked about it, she proceeded to yell at me "you don't know what 2 inches is."
