Dairy King is a must stop location. They have any kind of food you can think of on their menu, and they have ice cream as well, let's not get them confused with Dairy Queen. I enjoy going to Dairy King, they have two locations one in Trenton and the other is right down RT50 on Breese. However I have come to know this location very well, as the staff is always so friendly and their service is always quick. They have a drive through, dine-in(with outdoor seating), as well as the option to call in orders for pick up. This is a family owned business, it often reminds me of the old TV show cheers, where everybody knows your name. The food is always fresh and tasty. They offer daily specials throughout the week, and also offer happy hour. I love their cheeseburger with fries and a side of Nacho cheese typically but on occasion I will venture out and try somthing different. Today I got a philly cheese steak, which was to die for.... no pun intended, with fries, which are crispy and full of taste, the inside is a nice, warm full of burst potato when you bite into it. Yum. The inside of the Resturant brings me back to my childhood, you order at the counter then they call your name when your food is ready. There is ample seating on the inside and out. It is pretty roomy. The staff is very helpful here, and always remember you when you come back, which is nice. I forgot to add one thing Dairy King is known for is their Ski Slushies, you can pick any flavor to put in there, just like any slushie. You can even do a different soda of choice as well. However ski is a soda bottled and made right down the road in Breese at Excell, and it is so so good. It's a citrus soda, but made with real sugar cane. When I order mine I do half frozen/half regular ski. It is the perfect consistency. The soda doesn't get watered down with ice, and your slushie isn't all ice after drinking a few sips. Plus it lasts awhile. Another one of my personal favorites is Blueberry ski. All in all I highly recommend Dairy King to anyone, don't let a long line scare you, they move quick, and remember they're nothing like dairy queen. If you get lost, just look for the penguin trash cans. Or the little penguin signs, then you've made it. Oh and one more important note. They do take cards, but they charge a card fee. read more

Stopped in another local joint! Right at 11 and the dual drive through was packed!! And I was one of those lucky ones to line up early. They had an extensive menu with plenty to choose from. Prices were very good since this is a small local place. Ordered a double cheese burger and a local favorite "Ski" for the beverage. Not a big soda drinker but had to try it. Much like a Mountain Dew but bottled locally and is the favorite in this area. Both were very good. I actually got my lunch very quickly and they ran it out to my car since it was ready before the persons in front of me, so I was able to get out of line and enjoy lunch without waiting. Did not go inside as I was heading to the airport. I'll stop back in when in the area next time. Good food... good mood! read more

A locally home-grown joint that you won't find anywhere else. Love the penguin out front. We stopped in at lunch time and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Menu is very large so right away I knew that there must be a lot of frozen and pre-made foods but took a chance and was not disappointed. Wanting something light, we went for soup and chili, some fried pickles and soft drinks. They admitted the chili wasn't home-made but it was still very tasty as was the chicken noodle soup. Ok, this was our 1st time and it won't be our last. We went to Trenton to pick out some lights and decided to stop at The King to see what all the fuss is about. The menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming so we stuck with the basic Double Cheeseburger, Fries, Onion Rings, A Banana Malt and Lemonade. These were the best burgers around. JummHot and Juicy. The fries were crispy as well as the onion rings. The Lemonade was Real Lemonade!! The Banana Malt was so good make sure you get it with Real Bananas. This place is amazing! It was well worth the trip from Fairview Heights which would be a great place to expand to. The burgers are fantastic! So tasty! Great fries too. Yup, it's A-OK. Let's just say that if I grew up in any of the Clinton County towns on Route 50 and I would always come here, yeah it would be an easy 5-star. But I'm not from here, so there. I should give it more credit because it's very community-oriented but I usually rate restaurants for the food and service. Service was okay. It took me almost five minutes to get waited on at the counter as there was nobody there to begin with. There were some employees walking around cleaning tables and all, so I really should have walked out. They have a really great menu, with all kinds of sandwiches, side orders, desserts, and of course - what they are famous for: their different concoctions of Ski. The burger was good. It sucks that they charge extra for most condiments, even lettuce! The loaded fries was something I could have made at home - it was fries with melted shredded cheese and bacon bits. They didn't have a fountain available to customers in the dining room, so I wasn't sure if refills were extra cost? It didn't say on the menu. I just didn't want to waste my time. Like I said, Dairy King stands out in all the Clinton County towns. It's a very popular place for kids and family, of all ages. But if you're an outsider, the experience may be different. read more

Stopped by here on a little drive through the back country and fouind a gem in a little town of Trenton, IL. Ordered a fish sandwich and a side of onion rings and the cashier suggest a nice milkshake, so I sai, "Why not, when in Rome", and ordered myself a REAL banana milkshake...yummy to the 10 baby! I like this little place and the people are friendly. I'll have to try this place again soon and see if there's a new "Queen" in the "Dairy" business for my palate. Dairy King is the ultimate of Hometown fast food. Their hamburgers are simply delicious and you can get them in a variety of ways and with a variety of toppings. They have a great menu selection, their price points are just a touch high, but for the most part the restaurant is the kind of place that everyone wants to hang out at. Alright look, if you're from Clinton County in Southern IL, you already know the deal. But for others who have been thinking about it, you know you wanna. Now the one complaint I always hear is "the drive thru is atrocious. I have to wait 200 years just to order. Then it's another 200 years to the drive thru." And you may think that that's a turn off. 400 years in a drive thru line is worth the wait for this establishment. Everything on the menu is delicious. From the drinks to the food to the desserts. The staff has always been wonderful and courteous. Anyone who has anything bad to say about the establishment is really just trying to nitpick at something. Everyone I know loves this establishment. The food takes a little while to come, but it's always hot and you can tell it's freshly made, so it's worth the wait. The ice cream is always delicious as well! This is a hidden gem. They have a wide variety of food from burgers to nachos. They have shakes and the variety of ski drinks that they make here. For those who don't know (I didn't originally) a ski is a type of soda you can customize with flavors. So, if you want a strawberry vanilla flavored soda, they will make it for you. I'd take this place ANY day over the bigger fast food chains. Their food is better and there's actually a pretty good variety! I ordered the Grilled Chicken Pita and it was VERY tasty! Hubby got the Raspberry Chicken Wrap, but then just ate the innards. Pretty healthy food for a place like this. Yes, it's more expensive than the bigger chains, but you get what you pay for. You might not have time to eat lunch there if you use the drive through. Also, shakes are served in a thin plastic cup which melts fast. If you order food the shake will be chocolate milk before the food arrives because they make it first and either bring the shake out to your car or leave it sit inside on the counter until you get to the window. They either need a holding freezer or put the shakes in foam cups. The food is OK but high and they charge for credit cards. read more

Tried to order 2 of the Monday specials that allegedly included a double cheeseburger, fries and an XL drink and an order of fried green beans. When we attempted to get the fries 'loaded', it created a whole lot of confusion. The whole order was rung up separately AND then we were charged for the XL drinks! A debate ensued and what should have been a bill for around $24.00 turned into $34.00. When we received our order, we were actually shorted one of the double cheeseburgers. When we informed the staff, they were quick to respond by saying that we had only ordered one double cheeseburger!!! I drove by this place and saw how busy it was so decided to go back a week later and man now I know why it's crowded. Looks like it's a hangout spot and I understand.
