Decided to try this place out only because I wanted menudo on new years day. The place inside is cafeteria style, you order then they call you to pick up. Nice dining room area with a refrigerated condiment area. I ordered the menudo and two carnitas tacos and a diet coke in a can. Now how my food was PROS.. fresh delicious homemade tortillas Good seasoned pork Hot good broth in the soup Tons of tripe Lots of Pico and salsa choices CONS menudo was only pork fat, bones, tripe and broth nothing else Taco was only tortillas and meat and not a big serving Overall I give it 3.5 stars and I will definitely be back because I was the only English speaking person there and it was pretty busy so I feel like I'm missing out on some good things. read more

Pretty great, authentic and fresh Mexican food which is hard to find here being from California. Tacos are served on homemade tortillas and are delicious! Great platos enteros, my favorite is the Chilli Relleno another hard find here. And the best Mexican rice ever! And super consistent, we've never had a bad meal here. read more

I drive around all day every day doing estimates. I eat out every single day for lunch. I mainly eat Mexican food because I hold a burrito and eat while driving. I have to say that this is one of the best places that I've had all month. I rarely write reviews because it's time-consuming but I wanted to give these guys a review because the burrito was so freaking good. Customer service was great and prices are very reasonable. Little family run mexican restaurant kind of off the beaten path. Many choices on their big menu on the wall. The little restaurant itself is simple, not a lot of decor, and clean enough. It's got about 10 tables so it's roomy enough that it could handle a few families at a time. I always get the chile relleno and it did not disappoint. Huge and had a rich sauce over all of it. The beans were creamy. The tortillas were warm and wonderful. They've got the great salsa bar with many awesome condiments to add to your entrees like onions, cilantro, limes, roasted jalapenos etc. They had about 6 different salsas and they are HOT and full of spices! They do not serve cerveza. Chips are NOT homemade. They probably don't really serve them except to gringos like me. I use the chips to sample all the salsas. I think I've gained 10 pounds. read more

If you're from the NW you'll probably like this place. However, as an ex-Arizonan I am still on scope for some REAL Mexican food. Please Portland, stop getting my hopes up and then letting me down. This place is only a-iight. The meat was decent (both the barbacoa and asada), but the rest was pretty mediocre. Salsa bar has lots of options, but nothing actually spicy and the salsas were all a bit on the watery side. Perhaps a burrito wasn't their best offering so I might go back and try tacos or a plate. read more

I had some ridiculously good tacos today at Tres Reyes. I ordered three tacos with my three favorite meats: asada, pastor, and carnitas, and they were prepared exactly the way I like them. . .the meats were all SERIOUSLY grilled nice and brown. Also, they didn't put any other ingredients on the tacos except the meat. Instead, they let you put whatever salsa, etc you want on it yourself from their salsa and condiment bar. That's a good idea. . .you can make your own choices and put as much or as little as you want. For example, I like cilantro on my tacos, but not raw onions, and I don't like it drenched with salsa because I want to be able to taste the meat. The low price of $1.50 for tacos is nice too. read more

Went here on our way up the Gorge. This is more of a review of what we ordered because from the other reviews people loved the tacos.... and that is what we should have ordered. I ordered the enchilada and my wife got the ensalada pollo. The enchilada was pretty good but it was buried under a pile of tomato slices, onion, and iceberg lettuce. On top of that was a crumbly cheese and a drizzled cheesy white sauce. On and there were cubes of potatoes. If I at a fork full of everything, you could not taste the enchilada. I learned to love Mexican food in Texas and then refined that taste with living 35 yrs in sacramento. And this enchilada did not resemble any previous ones. Again, in fairness to the restaurant, there was a picture of the dish and this looked the same. I should have know how it would be served. My wifes salad was iceberg lettuce with dry bits of chicken, onions, tomato, avocado. It came with ranch dressing on the side. It was bland. They do have a wide assortment of salsas and other things to put on the salad. Adding those made the salad good. The staff were friendly and professional. The place was clean.... with a Spanish language TV show on in the background..... added a bit of atmosphere. So we probably won't go back. But if we did we would order the Tacos. read more

Very good food. My husband had a chicken torta and he was raving about the flavor. The carnita tacos and pastor tacos I had were delicious!! Son had asada, which I tried, good flavor as well! My partner was raving about Tres Reyes months before I got to try their food. This place really sets itself apart from the other Mexican restaurants in East Portland. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of places such as Casa Del Sol, etc. Tres Reyes is just different than the rest. They make their tortillas from scratch, so they meld perfectly with the taco fillings... it's an experience. The soft tortillas melt in your mouth and literally leave you salivating for more. I had carne asada tacos and the filling was generous and delicious. Tres Reyes is big on stewed/slow cooked meats, which also sets it apart. I can't stop thinking about the (huge!) chicken tamales! The heat of the tamales, combined with the shredded chicken was to die for. Tres Reyes doesn't drown their dishes in sauces and cheese, they keep it simple and it WORKS. Definitely try this place out, it's a very small business and completely worth your money. I can't wait to go read more

My husband is from a town by Morelia, Michoacan, this food is just like the recipes from his town. Whoever said it's not like real Mexican food doesn't understand that there are many regions in Mexico. Take for example the enchilada recipe, every region does it a little different. This restaurant serves very authentic michoacan food and when we eat here it is very similar to the food we have at a family gathering. This is a very neat and clean restaurant. I got the flautas and they were chicken. I don't know if they have any other flavors and I was not asked what kind of filling I would like when the order was placed. They came covered in shredded lettuce, sliced avocados, sliced tomatoes, cheese and what I assume was crema. The chicken filling was pretty bland but the condiments at the salsa bar added a bit more flavor when spooned over the flautas. read more

We were happy to find 3 Reyes, good handmade tortillas and very good meat and salsas. They have some unusual (in los estados unidos) menu items like enjitomadas and corundas, which came in an ocean of crema but were delicious. Will go back for the carnitas soon! read more

Great family run Mexican restaurant. It was very clean and had an amazing salsa bar. Everything was fresh and came out fast.

Went on a Sunday around 11am checked out their menu and holy cow was there food lol!! There's a whole wall menu. Got their carnitas by the pound ordered 1lb and $2 worth of tortillas which are hand made, OMG loved them! Their salsa bar is probably the best in the northwest the orange one is the absolutely spiciest salsa that I have ever tried in my life and I love salsa I eat it with everything!! They have a TV which is a plus so I don't have to be looking at the table while I wait for my food hah! Will come back for the tacos which are also hand made Loved it! I like this restaurant. Mainly because they have hand made tortillas and they also have sweet tamales. I didnt really like their chicken tamales tho. I got sick from it. The meat was still raw. I wanted to get more of their sweet tamales today but their closed and the cashier told me on saturday that they only make them on weekends wich is a bummer. They were delicious!
