DON'T GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO IMPRESS OR DESIRE UPSCALE SEVICE. Most horrible service I've ever experienced outside of McDonald's! The hostess was rude because we asked a question and said we couldn't have the open 5 top table because she promised it to a group that hadn't even arrived yet! Spoke with the owner and he said she was a great employee. Didn't even care to hear how poorly she treated us- said he "had her back" and it didn't matter what our impression was! I'd steer away from this place-- maybe get the food to go? We waited over 20 minutes beyond our reservation and my parents are in their 80's and there are no chairs or waiting spot. We were asked at least 6 times if we wanted to buy a drink! I would have expected the owner to make some level of effort given they didn't come even close to honoring the reservation time. read more

My husband and I had dinner here last Sunday with reservations for 7pm and I'm sorry to say we won't be back. First off, the restaurant is small and cozy. There isn't an actual host stand and if it's busy and crowded it isn't obvious who the host is or where you should wait to be helped. When we were greeted, it came off as more of "What are you doing here?", there wasn't even a hello or hi. We let them know that we had a reservation and we're asked to wait outside. We were seated in about 10 minutes and the first time our waitress came around we gave her our full order. Unfortunately a little over 45 minutes go by and we were never checked on or brought anything we had ordered. Our waitress comes by and apologizes that she forgot to input our order to the kitchen. She brought out 2 tiny fish tartare tacos since we've been waiting an hour at this point but we turned them away because I'm 6 months pregnant and can't eat raw fish plus my partner doesn't like raw fish. She then brought out some truffle fries instead. It seems pretty standard to ask guests if there's dietary restrictions or their preference if you going to bring them additional food they didn't order, but it didn't cross our waitresses mind. Our starter and entrees eventually arrived and they were fine. We had the Brentwood Street Corn, Baby Beet Salad, and 2 New York steaks. Overall nothing we had really wowed us or was delicious enough to come back for. The ambiance is lacking and it is extremely loud. So loud that there's foam glued underneath their tables and acoustic panels on the ceiling which don't seem to help. This isn't somewhere I see myself coming back to or recommending to family and friends. read more

I would return here, if I was looking to wine, dine and impress a guest. I had been meaning to try this location since it switched from Bella Roma. The reviews were salacious and sensual. Finally, my boyfriend and I stumbled here on a Saturday evening. We finished a beach walk and wanted to wet our whistles. The restaurant is so quaint and charming, but I agree, it's a little claustrophobic when you enter. There is not much of a waiting area: people were sitting around but I could not tell if they were waiting to leave or enter. Finally, we got a hold of the hostess who surprised us with a seat at the bar. I must applaud the bar service: the bartender was attentive. A con: there is one bathroom: for the entire restaurant. Half the restaurant was lined up at any given time to use the bathroom. To start, I ordered a glass of the Evidence Rosé from Cote De Provence. For $12, I could have used a more generous pour. The wine was light, and crisp and complemented the flavors of the oceanic meal. To start, we shared the: LOCAL HALIBUT CRUDO ** watermelon aguachile, jicama, jalapeño, pickled green strawberries, mint There was a little bit TOO much going on here for such a miniscule portion. The strawberries clashed against the mint and jalapenos: creating a collision that detracted away from the halibut's natural flavor. Also, the portion was the size of an amuse bouche - $18 felt rather steep. For my main, I ordered a salmon dish which is no longer on the menu. The food was so artfully presented. However, it was nothing to write home about. And for the price, I could have used a bigger piece. My boyfriend ordered a duck dish (no longer on the menu) - he asked me where the other half of the plate was. I was disappointed by the limited menu: picking my entrée was easy: there were few options for a dairy- free pescatarian! In conclusion, we adored the ambiance of the restaurant. The charm of the lights, the gentle laughter and music that warmed us from the outside in. However, we agreed that the price point did not correlate to the dining experience. I prefer to eat a sumptuous, lavish meal, rather than pay lavishly for artistic but miniscule portions of satisfactory food. That being said, I would return if I were hosting a guest in Capitola, who favors ambiance to flavors. read more

Nice place. Took a while for the food to come out. Someone ordered after us and food came out sooner for them. Corn was really delicious. Halibut was overcooked and dry. House Made Trottole Pasta had really good pasta but hardly any mushrooms or peas. Drinks were so so. I felt like for a fancier place in Capitola they should have higher standards. I would have preferred Lago di Como near black beach. Note they do not serve hard alcohol but I didn't factor that into my review. read more

Trestles is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Cruz county. The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. The presentation and ambiance is top tier. I've had nothing short of amazing service everytime. Their sister restaurant Cavaletta is also phenomenal. 10/10 read more

This was a great place to bring family visiting from out of town. The place is quaint (i.e. small and cramped) and pretty loud - so be warned. However the food and service was a slam dunk. I had the crispy pork belly and it was so tender and not at all grisly or heavy feeling. I also had an heirloom tomato salad which, for an appetizer, was pretty large. For the table we had the Guajillo Hummus & Chips, which really had a great flavor profile. Finally, the rest of the family had the brick chicken and reported it was juicy and flavorful. Lots of local drink options (cider from just up the street) and the staff will for sure get you something they recommend. read more

The ambiance and food are magical. We always have a great meal in good company sitting at the bar. Everything that comes out of the kitchen looks and smells fabulous. The wine list is also amazing. The bar is beer/wine only. Make reservations, or wait for an opening at the bar. This is intimate dining for 2 or 4 people. I wouldn't recommend large groups or families. We came here for a birthday dinner and everything was delicious! We friend a couple appetizers: tuna poke and friend green tomatoes. Those tomatoes are seriously a must try if they have them on their menu. Amazing! Also had the butter lettuces salad but forgot to snap a picture. We had Moscow Mules for drinks and I had a glass of white with my pork chop for dinner. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of melt in your mouth fat. Everything was very tasty! Big bonus points here to the staff. It was busy, probably like usual- but staff was very friendly and attentive and kept things moving along nicely. They helped one another out so each table got served often by multiple people. I like that. Appetizers were great as was the fried chicken and chocolate mousse dessert, although I think they might have topped it with Cocoa Puffs and so not sure about that. Will certainly be back. read more

If you're looking for creative and well executed food, Trestles is IT. The menu is small but each dish is carefully thought out. We had the fish tartare tacos, those blew my socks off. Super fresh, delicious sauces and in a wonton taco shell. I had the steak, cooked perfectly, accompanied by fresh grilled veggies and potato croquettes and several sauces. So satisfying and a unique combinations of flavors. My friend got the halibut which was also delicious and unique. We ended the night with sharing their warm brownie topped with ice cream. Fantastic dinner! The peach tartare was genius - super unique, complex, and satisfying. The halibut and risotto were cooked and seasoned to perfection. If we're back in Capitola we'll be going here for dinner again 1000%. I'd also like to commend the staff - our entrees took a long time to get out of the kitchen, but they were communicative and provided us with a free appetizer in the mean time. I did not think this deterred from the meal at all, in fact, this part of the reason I'm giving them a great review - outstanding service even when there are hiccups is showing of a restaurant who really knows what they are doing. My only culinary comment is that the halibut came with a foamed sauce - which was very tasty. However, it covered most of everything on the plate, only showing the halibut. It visibly covered much of the plate, but was the right amount to taste. Once diving in to the dish there were so many more vibrant colors underneath it - might have been nice to see that immediately. read more

My wife and I had a very nice dinner there on Friday evening to celebrate a 6 month anniversary on our marriage.. Right away we got greeted with a smile by the hosts and showed us to our table that we reserved. The ambiance was nice and pleasant, the waiter helped us with our drinks and explained what they were and for us being our first time there it was really nice of him. The drinks, appetizers and the entrees were 10/10 I got the delicious pork chop and my wife got the butter nut squash pasta. To end the night we got the brownie with ice cream.. really good! The atmosphere and food were great at this restaurant. We had early reservations so no wait. The staff were very personable. The amount of food was pretty skimpy for an entree though you need to order a starter and salad besides. Which adds up to a pretty high amount. When asking for bread to have before our appetizer arrived we were told there was not any available??? Odd then the waitperson added "It's seasonal", what??? Since when is bread seasonal. First rate from the moment we got there to the moment we left...just what was needed after a stressful day without electricity (!)...happily greeted, super waiter with excellent recommendations...opted for the VERY large and perfectly prepared Ribeye...know that it is MP...biggest and best I've ever had...my wife opted for the delicious scallops...good but not great salad...a wedge might be a good option(?)...superior wines and dessert...been awhile since our last visit but Highly recommended...maybe the best around...alcohol license is forthcoming so cocktails there should be great...thanks all for a superlative night! read more

Hard to find a restaurant that serves start to finish perfection, but Trestles did it. Ambiance is good but does not make you think upscale, and the drink menu is just beer and wine. But this was maybe the best food we've had since being in California over the last 3 months. We had the Brussel sprouts, scallops, a pasta special, and the crème brûlée cheesecake, and every one was a 10/10 on their own. The only thing to call out is it is pretty expensive for small entree portions, but how good it is overcomes that. And service is excellent of course. Must try. read more

Restaurant was very crowded when we went and was a bit loud and small. Parking was a bit hectic in Capitola village so show up early for your reservation. Everything we ordered was amazing! *Steak (rare and medium) five stars both were cooked to perfection and all of the sides served with the steaks were delicious! *Pork chop 4.5 stars (just because the steak was soooo good) was cooked perfectly. All of the components in this dish layered perfectly. Really delicious as well. * Risotto with duck confit 5 stars (per my husband) the duck was succulent and perfectly seasoned. The risotto was perfectly cooked and seasoned as well. We also had a few starters. The butter lettuce salad was really good. Would give that 4.5 stars. Only thing that I would add is a fat. However as a light (healthy) dish it was totally not missing it. The pickled onions were on point on this one. The pork belly 5++ stars, Brussel sprouts 4.5 stars, tuna tartar 5++ stars, and my girl from the south loved the shrimp and grits. She gave it 5 stars. If I'm being honest everything was amazing! The service was good which is why I'm giving three stars. I didn't care for the food for the price, or their lack of proper liquor. I was already expecting gourmet portions thanks to looking on yelp before reserving, but our two meals were $150 plus an appetizer of 3 small cuts of pork belly. The most unique thing that night was horseradish that was whipped into a mousse. Otherwise just a let down. The fish was tough, the steak tasted like it was prepared earlier in the night then reheated. They fried all their veggies in the meals we had that night which seemed to not fit well with the main courses. Good luck! read more

Came here on a Saturday night to celebrate a belated Father's Day dinner. We made reservations one week prior. Our server, Lyla was quick and attentive. We started with ahi tartare tacos, tuna carpaccio and soft shell tempura. All full of different flavors and amazingly delicious. We all shared the Butter Lettuce Salad which had one of the best dressings I've had at a restaurant. Most of the table ordered the halibut which was very buttery with the perfect crisp on the outside and a flaky soft inside. My partner ordered the NY steak which he raved about. We finished off the evening with brownie a la mode, the perfect amount of sweetness. The portions are smaller but filling nonetheless. The staff was always quick to clear up our table. Once we were sat down we immediately notice how overwhelmingly loud the restaurant was. We could barley hear eachother talk. The service was painfully slow and subpar. It took around 15-20 min to get 2 canned drinks. The bright side was the appetizers were delicious. The portions are small but were made well. We got the Pork Belly, the tuna tartar, and the Brussel sprouts. The food also came out slowly. When our entrées arrived, (2 orders of scallops and 2 orders of steak) the food was cold. My husband alerted our waitress, but since the place was so busy and it was getting late we all just ate it cold. Wow. First, our hostess was wonderful. I wish I'd gotten her name. My partner and I were in town to celebrate our 9 year anniversary. For context, we're both teachers, and don't often have time to get away, or the money, and we'd been looking forward to this trip and sharing a romantic meal together at Trestles. There was an issue with our reservation. We'd reserved a table on the patio and for some reason it didn't register. She was able to troubleshoot and accommodate us on the patio. Our server Skyla was a doll, and was friendly and checked on us frequently even though it was a busy night, and she had a lot of tables. The food: Perfect. We started with the pork belly and it was delicious! It was crispy and fatty and had a great addition of acid from the apples and the jalapeños that accompanied it. My partner got the special pasta for the night and it was TASTY. I got the NY Prime and it was cooked a perfect medium rare and came with two sauces I would bathe in! For dessert, we got the brownie and the cheesecake. It was the best cheesecake I have ever had. We can't wait to plan another trip to Capitola and revisit Trestles! Would highly recommend! read more

Everything was bursting with flavors and cooked just right...tender, juicy and delectable! Be sure to make reservations though otherwise you'd wait awhile.
